Needed a smog check on my 2017 CR-V and found smog time on Groupon. Their Groupon was listed for ~$45 so I purchased it and came in. I was helped by AJ, who for the most part was very friendly and helpful, and made the process very quick for me and the 2 cars in front of me. I was able to get out within 45 minutes even after waiting for 2-3 people to finish before me. However, I wasn't aware that they tag on $10 for any car that's SUV sized or bigger, the reasoning for which I'm not quite sure of. With the added price of the certificate if you pass, that ends up being $18 added onto the whole thing. Spending over $60 out the door is definitely not what I was anticipating, and there are plenty of options who can get you the same for less. Don't come to this place! Take your business somewhere else the technician is rude , disrespectful, racists, and they overcharge. * Can you please provide a detailed account of what happened? I arrived at the smog check station, and the technician asked me to pull forward into the testing area. I exited my car and informed him that I was using a Groupon. He said "okay" and asked me to enter the lobby. He then requested my driver's license. I explained that the vehicle belonged to my father-in-law and politely asked why my driver's license was needed. The technician responded with an attitude, questioning why I was asking about his job. I told him I was simply asking why a driver's license was required for a smog check, as I had never been asked for one at other locations. He began raising his voice and accused me of having an attitude. He then said, "You can give me any name -- Donald Duck." I replied that I would provide my real name and address. He started entering my information into the computer, and after completing it, he printed out some paperwork and asked me to sign. I asked him why he was speaking to me that way, and he told me he didn't want to proceed with the smog check and said, "Get the fuck out of my face." Very very efficient. AJ runs his shop with precision. He is very mindful of keeping up with his own virus protocols and only allows one person in the waiting room at a time. Once I figured out how to get in, everything was pretty smooth. They weren't busy at all so there was no waiting, except for the guy to notice I was there. It's been a while since I needed a smog check, but I recently acquired an out of state car and you need one to get California plates. Has it gone up in the price that much? I thought it was a little expensive, but I was on a time crunch and didn't have much time to shop around so convivence won out over price. The check was pretty uneventful. The guy was professional enough but didn't explain a whole lot except "you passed". I guess if you do this day after day, you're not interested in chit chat. They charge a small fee to use a credit card, but not fee for debit card. This is predominately displayed until you get to the counter you pay at, or if you come in through the front door. Since you bring your car in from the back, i doubt many people enter that way. Luckily, I was able to pay with my debit card, but I still find those upcharges annoying. Regardless, I passed, then went back to AAA to get my plates and I'm good to go. read more

BEWARE: TECHNICIAN DISPLAYED RACISM AND SEXISM (1/14/2025) After waiting for 30 minutes in the waiting room with another customer, the technician asked me to step outside because "there are illnesses going around" and only one customer could be inside at a time. This felt odd, especially since I had been waiting for so long in the waiting room with the other customer for 30 minutes already. His comment made both me and the other customer uncomfortable. He then told me to wait in my car, promising to call me when it was my turn to move my car forward. I agreed and went to my car. Once inside my car, the technician approached my window and began yelling at me, getting closer with each shout. He claimed he was denying me service because I "had an attitude," even though I hadn't been rude. I've never been treated this way at any business.
