This review is for the manager Peter. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My mom took her car in for a smog check and while the gentlemen working there were nice, the experience was poisoned by the manager Peter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]He was rude, dismissive, and demeaning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My elderly mother had a question and the workers directed her to their manager - Peter - who was outside smoking a cigarette near the gas station (a whole other safety/legal issue). [[HIGHLIGHT]]My mom approached Peter and he claimed he was not the manager and could not answer her question.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]My mom went back to the mechanics and 2 of them reassured her Peter is the manager. Peter again claimed to not be the manager and when she asked him for a business card, he gave her one with his name listed as the manager.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I dont know why someone would play games like this gaslighting an elderly woman. Thanking God that I ended up at AD Smog and Repair!! I knew my old Prius needed new parts and repairs but I went to two mechanics in the past year and I was sent away being told that my Prius was fine...it was NOT fine. I was a little worried that I couldn't do much research before coming here but honestly I'm now so thankful to God and Peter and his team of mechanics. They went above and beyond taking their precious time to keep checking thoroughly on what was wrong. My car was shaking and making a terrible noise. They found everything that was wrong with it, was very upfront about the situation and pricing, and even recommended me some upcoming repairs/replacements I would need. They kept my car for 3 days with no storage fee and even let me borrow his truck since I had no other way of transportation without my Prius. Came back for the second time for smog test at this station and again the same fantastic experience! 5 minutes wait time, 15 minutes test duration and out in 25 minutes. Best of all the same great price, great enjoyable communication (speaks perfect English). Can't say enough good words about the pleasant experience again and recommend this business. read more

If you have an older car, my advice is do not take it here for a smog test. If it doesn't pass, you'll end up paying $80 to get your certificate. $49.75 for the failed test, then ANOTHER $20 for the retest + $8.25 for the certificate. There are plenty of pass or don't pay (see yelp for reviews) that not only will not charge you until you pass (unless your car is older than 2000 in some cases) but will also charge you LESS even if it does on the first try. We didn't look around or consult yelp before bringing our car here. Wish we had. Edited to add: we have a minivan (Toyota Sienna) so were charged $10 more for the test. Their advertised $40 test + certificate price doesn't apply to a minivan. Or any van. Or truck. Or SUV. Or older than 2000... Go elsewhere. read more

I went to where I get most of my auto repairs done for a smog check since it is in the same building. I printed a coupon from the Pennysaver website for a discounted smog. Nowhere on the coupon does it say SUV's are extra. I met with Jose and he didn't recognize the coupon I brought in. It clearly says it is printed from the Pennysaver. He then says SUV's are $10 extra. I explained that the coupon does not say that. Now, I know it is only $10 but at some point truth in advertising has to mean something. Jose obviously couldn't make a smart customer service decision then correct the coupon error later. So I left and am leaving negative feedback for the smog station only and filing a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair. I will still use the car repair shop at VP Shell. read more

Brought my vehicle here on Monday morning for a simple diagnostic prior to wanting to sell my vehicle. Filled out some paper work and was told the diagnostic would be $65, which I agreed to. Several hours later the service manager Peter asked if I can leave the car over night, and that I will be contacted the next day regarding their findings. I asked if there will be any additional cost and was assured there would be no extra cost regarding the diagnostic and no repairs will be done without my consent. Long story short It took a week for the shop, only to contact me stating my car was ready for pick up. Upon pick up I got a bill for just under $600 dollars. The shop claimed they had to replace a few parts to fix the car. I reminded the shop manager Peter that we had not agreed on any repairs and that I was waiting for an update regarding diagnosis. The service manager Peter came clean and told me that he had taken my vehicle to another shop without my consent. He had also stated that the parts I was being charged for were actually not replaced and I was being charged for them because the other shop had to buy those parts from a junk yard to try on my vehicle and that those parts could not be returned. Peter stated that if he did not charge me for those parts then he would be fired by his boss. I explained to him that I won't be paying for parts that were not replaced and that this was unethical. He asked if I can at least take the car for a test drive. I went for a test drive and noticed the car was still having problems. Peter asked for one more chance to look at my car on Saturday and that he will make everything right and only charge me for our initial agreement which is $65 for diagnostic. On Saturday Peter did not return my message regarding the update on my car so I decided to pick up the car on Monday regardless. On Monday Peter told me the car was fixed again and I owed $315 for their time. I paid the $315 and left. On my drive back I noticed the car was even worse then when I left it and notified Peter. I was told by Peter that I need to contact the other shop for my refund. Mind you I never dealt with the other shop, it was taken there with out my consent. I have decided that I will be seeking legal advice and take this shop to court. read more

I took my car in for a smog check and I assumed I passed bc they did not tell me anything needed to be fixed to pass, just that A small wiring issue was wrong. Every car repair place tells you everything that is wrong so you'll fix it. They should have specified that it must be repaired to pass. When I called today to clear up the issue, I was told it was thoroughly explained to me what needed to be fixed to pass. That is absolutely untrue. Now I've received a letter from the DMV saying I did not submit the smog check...so now I have expired tags and need to pay for another smog check. read more

You want to stay away from this shop. The penny-saver coupon is the bait. This guy speaks little to no English. The large fan is there to help keep your engine cool while he revs it up for the machine. He doesn't use it as he should. He should put it next to the front of your car. But he is too lazy to move it . So he overheats your engine unnecessarily. After he fails you-(and he will fail you) he gets all uppity when you ask him to explain why it failed. It might be because his English is so bad that he can't tell you and he's embarrassed at his inability to even communicate at the level of a four year old. I called this smog location after seeing their coupon in the Pennysaver thinking it was Landin's AD Smog & Lube on East Chapman. I wanted to make sure the coupon was valid. They claimed to be the same owners of the other location. Thankfully I looked at the location again before going and realized it wasn't. I went to the RIGHT location, with Raul, on East Chapman and found out they are not the same owners. I could not believe how unethical it was for AD Smog Only to LIE about their affiliation just to get business. I would never give this place my hard earned money. I have fought check engine lights and computer recognizing components for a couple of months. Jose explained how to drive the car a certain speeds for a period of time to solve my problem and pass smog test. It took a couple of times driving as Jose told me and took car in this morning and drove out with a smog certification. I was going through my mail last weekend and realized I never paid my registration on my Ford Explorer. Of course it needed to be smogged. I hopped on Yelp and found this place was opened on Sundays. I called and there was no wait. He had me in and out of there in 15 minutes. Awesome. It cost me $60. as I forgot to print out the online coupon. But worth my time to get it done. I have nothing but good experiences at this shop.They honor their coupons which do say that larger vehicles are extra. But where else can you get a smog chack for $40 or $50 depending on the size of you vehicle at a test only Gold Start station ?There is never a long wait. They do a thorough legal test and do not "invent" problems. It's true that the owner can be a little less friendly, he still does a good job but the other staff are a bit quick and more efficient.
