If I could give zero stars, I would. This dealership flat-out misrepresented the car they sold me. The listing bragged about the "premium Bose audio system" in not one, not two, but three separate places. After driving 18 hours round trip to buy it, I discovered the audio system doesn't even work. The amp is clearly blown, meaning what they advertised simply wasn't true. When I reached out, their only "solution" was beyond insulting: they told me to drive another 18 hours back, pay them to fix the system that they falsely advertised, and then drive another 18 hours to pick it up. Completely unreasonable. When I pushed back and mentioned I'd be forced to go to the BBB if they wouldn't make this right, the salesman immediately cut off communication, claiming I "threatened" him. Now they refuse to respond at all. This is scammy, unprofessional behavior at its worst. They're happy to take your money, but the second there's a problem they vanish. If you value honesty, integrity, or even basic customer service, avoid this place at all costs. read more

Updating my review from 2023. It's been 14 months since we purchased our car from this location. We've yet to receive the title (I think 14 months is plenty of time to get it from Maryland). Stupid on us for signing that we didn't receive the title at purchase but we thought it would arrive in a reasonable amount of time. The car is a piece of crap. We've put in $6k+ in repairs in just one year. But we can't trade it in or do anything since we don't have the title. Oh, and the seller didn't enter the vehicle into the dmv database, so we can't renew our registration because it literally does not exist. My husband can't get on base because the tags are expired, and we cannot do a single thing about it. Giving 2 stars because they aren't ghosting us. BEWAREEEE of this place. read more

Do not trust this company .They are a big scam. I was just about to finalize the purchase of a vehicle right before they mail me the contracts which completely contradicted everything they initially said about the vehicle and voided all their initial promises. Their story about the title of the vehicle and the condition changed constantly. I caught them and called them out on multiple lies. Vida who apparently is some kind of a manager in this company never returns the calls , accordingly to the receptionist this guy is busier then the president since he never returns calls even after he promises he will. To top it all now they refused to return the $500 advance on this "sale" saying they considered it a deposit and based on their company rules is not refundable. Keep in mind such thing was never disclosed or agreed on. . After talking to the bank about the possibility to dispute the charges it has been brought to my attention that this company has been priorly flagged through the banking systems for similar cases. Overall terrible experience. Nothing was done in a timely manner. I was told Car would be ready for me to take to my mechanic and dents removed if I didn't come yesterday but this morning. Drove 45 minutes to dealer car was not prepared at all, not even clean. On top of that while they knew I was on the way to take it it was completely blocked in and no one cared that worked there to move anything out of the way. As per any customer I tried to negotiate terms of the vehicle and was met with an attitude from the GM of the dealership who proceeded to belittle me for looking out for my best interests. It is the job of the salesman/GM to understand the frustration of their customer and dissolve it. Not belittle them while they are frustrated. Great way to lose a sale. Which by the way, they did. I did not even get a chance to take the car off the lot for a test drive. This is one of those BARE MINIMUM used car spots. GO SOMEWHERE THAT ACTUALLY WANTS YOUR BUSINESS! read more

I bought a vehicle for the summer in an all-cash deal. I wasn't expecting a cream puff, but I also wasn't expecting a vehicle that was not road worthy out of the door. The vehicle appears to have been cobbled together with junkyard parts for a quick sale. It is clear that certain parts have been replaced as there are new bolts (loose and not properly torqued) and missing bolts in the engine bay (intake manifold, for instance) with fresh exposed metal indicating the bolts have not been missing for long. The replacement parts (exhaust manifold, for instance) are old and corroded or broken, in the case of the exhaust manifold gasket. Hence, I conclude that the vehicle was probably purchased at auction as non-running and pieced together with junkyard parts for a quick sale. known problems to date: -after about 30 miles away from the dealer (purchased all-cash with no warranty), the engine light kicks on and the vehicle starts losing power as I'm driving down the road. The PCM (the brain) needed to be replaced immediately. There is a way of rebooting the PCM that dealers use to prevent engine codes from kicking in for a short period. I believed A.C. used this technique to get the vehicle out of the road without the lights kicking on. -the exhaust manifold/gasket needed replaced; it was previously replaced with an old, cracked unit as evidenced by loose bolts that were clearly new and missing bolts in the case of the intake manifold (which needed to be removed to get to the exhaust manifold). -the distributor was new. The dealership or previous owner replaced it before the sale. The spark plugs, however, were so old and gapped that it is amazing they could even perform. -fuel pump needed replacement. The sending unit component does not measure how much gas is in tank. -the oddest thing was the fuse box. Certain required fuses were missing. A couple of the fuses were the incorrect size. It's like the mechanic at the dealership just put in the absolute minimum number of fuses to get it down the road. Why were there fuses fuses, anyways? I mean, even if there were problems with some of the fuses in the past and some of them needed replaced, fuses are like $0.50 each. read more

This place is a big rip off. Do NOT buy a car truck or anything else from them. They sell supposedly inspected cars that pass inspection but I really think they do the "lick it and stick it" sticker. They forget about you the minute you walk out the door. The brakes on the vehicle I bought should never had passed inspection. The windshield wipers were shot as well. If I had gotten into an accident on the way home who's fault would it have been. I've called and called and they never call back. They don't want to fix the problems. They don't even want to hear about the problems. I would really like to find out from other people who's name is on the inspection certificate. This place doesn't even deserve a 1. After close observation of the vehicle I buy, I noticed seat belts were missing covers. Then not even 500 miles into the vehicle the check engine light comes on, brakes are rubbing, there's a knocking sound in the rear panel every time you turn it on and the ac stopped working. So I take it back to the dealer ship to them the problems only for MATT to say he will take care of it. I drop my vehicle off for 4 days with no loaner to get it back with brake problems still, knocking sound, ac charged and the seat belts with a cover that doesn't even go to it duct taped together and the 2nd seat belt with no cover on it still. Okay, Well here's my situation with these people 1.) I'm a first time car buyer my mom was with me throughout this whole process because I didn't know how this worked. So, I bought a 2009 CC Volkswagen. I put as a down payment which is $2,439.40 okay I drove off with the car that day but come to find out my dreams didn't last that long because the very next day it wouldn't start.. So called them and I notified them, they came and towed the car back to there shop and I called nearly every day to check up on how the car was doing which is/was between Kim and Evans and every other day it felt like a battle just to find out when would I be getting the car back into my possession. They kept telling me "it's the alternator" which it was.. then it became something's else was wrong with the electrical on the door, then it became that "they ordered the wrong part, then said that "they ordered a new part and I should be getting the car in a few days." Which was not true at all. Then, I just got fed up with it and told them that "I just want my money back.." but here's when things are going to get interesting to who's ever -reading this Mr.Evans got so down right disrespectful over the phone he says to me " ma'm it's not my fault that you quit both your jobs to get a car." So again I'm young (21) and I have a son that has a condition (his left kidney is bigger than his right kidney) so it's scary to me cause everyday it's something new with him, and I went up there to go get my money back but I had seen a car that I really did like and I looked at it and I asked Amber "how much is that vehicle.?" (only about 2,000 more than the Volkswagen) and I asked her "could you guys see if I'm qualified for the specific vehicle?." She said "sure" and they told me that they would do it as a in house financing, I was fine with that but apparently someone must've not understood me when I said "I'm perfectly fine with that." And told they're boss that I had said "no" and again I was calling every single day to see what was going on with that vehicle and they kept telling me that "we're still waiting on the approval." And now just getting so frustrated and crying and stressed out that I told them "I'm not interested anymore I just want me money back." Which they tell you that they have these so called "signs" that they don't do refunds isn't true because I did not see them because even there financial rep said "oh no, we wouldn't keep your money." Plus with 2 other of those employees said this but the manager Lavetus or whatever his name is told me "well a refund is not an option up to this point." And pretty much said that "He'll work with me to find a vehicle that I'm comfortable with and that's that." So also I bought the Volkswagen on February 29,2020 and I took that car for one day and still waiting for them to accommodate me to a vehicle that is not broke down it's March 31, 2020... I'll update this review if I end up with something thank you for your time but please if you want a vehicle from these people do yourself the favor and DON'T DO IT PLEASE!!!!! Horrible horrible horrible customer service. Would not recommend to anyone whatsoever. Customers blatantly lie and do not care about you or your well being. I was in a car accident last Friday that totaled my car. On Saturday I spoke to the guy at the Chesapeake location who roughly talked qualifications with me and told me "I'm going to qualify", but most of the inventory was at the Portsmouth location and the finance guy was only in Portsmouth. Since I need a car for my job, I couldn't wait so I drove to Portsmouth because I needed a car that day. Upon getting to Portsmouth the representative there was extremely lazy and showed no sense of urgency, as if he didn't want to help me. I'm not sure what was wrong with him because he told me I had to come back on Monday, and when I came back Monday Evans was gone due to an "emergency". None of his coworkers felt the need to call me before I wasted my time taking off of work early and driving to Portsmouth for the car. So once again I had to wait yet another day when I was ready to buy a car on Saturday. I still stuck with them because I REALLY wanted the specific car at their lot. So on Tuesday I called the lot to make sure they would actually be there so I can come pick up the car and put my money down. They were now telling me that I did not qualify by myself and needed a co-signer despite making more than enough to afford the payments, having good credit, and not having any other loans under my name beside credit cards and student loans. The individual I spoke with lied saying he never said I would qualify even though me and my spouse recall him saying those exact words. Long story short I will be taking my business elsewhere and I suggest you do too. They are highly unprofessional, unreasonable, and unmotivated. read more

Do not buy a car from this dealership they will lie to you and tell you whatever you want to hear and make you sign paperwork as fast as they can and after you sign they tell you they do the work and never do. I had this happen to me I purchased a car though them seemed like a good deal but after i had them tell me they will do a alignment and fix other problems and fix the radio. I signed the papers. Then they took my car for a full day and i got it back nothing was done to it but the radio was fixed and i told them to fix the rest they said they did and will not do it again. Then i looked up the price of the radio on my own they over charged me 1k on the radio i told them and the general manager stated( a business makes money were a business can) basically saying screw off we took your money you signed the contract bye. Traded in vehicle toward one of theres at the Portsmouth Autocity location. As i arrived at the dealership i looked around for about 15 minutes till i got noticed. I informed them i would like to trade in my current car. The salesman said that there appraisal guy was not there and at a auction. And told me to drive 40mins out one way to VA beach to the carmax there to get a appraisal. And then drive all the way back to work something out. This immedialty threw me off, and dint reimburse me for my gas..Very Poor service, probably the worst from a dealership. At times the salesman was rude (would randomly turn his attention to someone else while I was talking to him, almost like ignoring me) customer service wise, i would give the dealership as a whole a 1 star. Also tried to tell me; after i pointed out a certain vehicle interested in, that the transmission fluid was deffinetely dirty and needed to be changed, the salesman replied with, "well, since it hasn't been changed then usually we won't bother changing the fluids". ARE YOU SERIOUS??!! So your basically telling me, when a vehicle rolls onto your lot that hasn't been properly maintained, you won't bother doing regular maintenance with it? Sounds like laziness. Auto city's lot if very small so cars are parked literally on top of eachother (hypethical), so in order to get the vehicle I wanted out of a parking space the salesman had to go over the curb. The salesman slammed his foot on the gas and screeching the tires, after this I recommended he put the vehicle in 4wd. DUH! He then puts it in 4w manually by a lever and the transmission begins grinding and sounding like it was gunna fall out from under the truck. I then told him you need to have the vehicle in park. The salesman jumps the curb bouncing the thing all over the place, slamming the bed of the truck down. Then I look outside and one of the appraisal reps. Is in a inventory car red lining the little 225k mile nissan truck. No respect for there vehicles and then try to sell them off, completely ridiculous. I'm giving 2 stars because of the fact I did purchase a vehicle from them for a good price after I checked the vehicle from bumper to bumper/top to bottom and the carfax/autocheck. Deffinetely the last time I buy from ANY Autocity location. Hope this helped someone deciding to give them a shot. WOULD I RECOMMEND: NOT AT ALL. PRICES: Fair for what I was looking at. read more

I spoke to the salesman several times the day before going to purchase the truck. I spoke to him several times that morning. I agreed to pay full price plus tax, tags, dealer fees. I was told that the truck was in good condition, and ready to go. I took off from work early, found baby sitters for the kids. My wife and I drove over 3 hours to get there (which I made clearly known before the visit). We had the check in hand, insurance set up, we were going to drive home with the truck. As soon as we pulled up after our long drive to the dealership, I saw a truck matching the description on the racks in the garage. My salesman saw my face and told me that wasn't my truck. Twenty minutes later, the same salesman finally tells me it was my truck. They had the engine halfway pulled out. His excuse, he had been looking at the wrong truck all day long while. At this point, I am extremely upset, but still want the truck. After calling everyday for nearly 2 weeks and being told they would call me back with an update and never actually calling back, I slowed my calls to about every 3rd day. It has now been 3-1/2 weeks and they have yet to call me. They keep making excuses that the truck is STILL being worked on. At least have the respect to tell me that you already sold MY truck, or that you are in over your head and need to sale it for more. At least have the respect to at least follow through and call me back and tell me anything....even IF you are still truly working on it. read more

3 kids needing cars in the near future and I figured I would get the first one handled this month. Saving every dime for college as well so we saved and paid cash; transaction went smoothly enough. I made it a point to ask my salesperson what he could do for me if we experienced an issue immediately and even mentioned getting burned once before by another dealer when the check engine indicator came on soon after purchase. Salesman informed me that "I wont leave you on the side of the road". Well, check engine light popped 6 days after the purchase of the vehicle and upon calling and speaking with the salesman, he informed that "well, that light wasn't on when you drove off the lot". My son has driven to school (1 mile to school) and work (6 miles) since we've purchased the vehicle. I did not have enough money for an extended warranty, thereby my reasoning for asking about a good faith effort to stand by Auto City's product. I only ask for whats reasonable and fair and it seems that is not attainable at this dealer. read more
