Do NOT, I repeat do NOT buy a car here or even go for maintenance. All of the employees act like you are bothering them from the second you walk in the door. Particularly "Nichole" at the desk. Even calling them is a lost cause. They are all blatantly rude. It's mindblowing they can run a business like that. If you buy a car, once you drive off the lot they will never support you or even treat you with basic customer service, again. They just want the sale. I've been to so many incredible Ford Dealerships in my life, it's unfortunate this one is ruining the Ford name. I wish I could save the next person from wasting their money here. read more

I have the automatic stop/start but I turn the button off because it does wear down the starter, as luck would have it, the problem was the battery ! Thank you for the loaner and the great service. I started my search for a new truck and it took about a month to find the F150 I wanted. I ended my search with Cavalier Ford Chesapeake Square for some simple reasons. I don't mind the heat so most of my days of shopping were hot. Both Cavalier Fords (Greenbriar and Chesapeake Square) were the only delaerships to come outside of their AC. Mr. John Burton introduced himself and showed me only the options that I wanted. There wasnt any upselling or downselling. He was interested in helping me. After my purchase of my first brand new truck, he even took the time to show me how to use the features in it. At the end of the day, this was the only dealership that walked with me even though it was hot out. My family and myself are very grateful for the help. Poor leadership and poor communication. They act like they're too busy to wait on you or work with you. They were supposed to call me when the part for my company vehicle came into the shop. Another 5 stars review for this place! I'm a military dependent. We are set to move to Japan in 1 week. I'm order to store your vehicle with the government, your car cannot have any active recalls prior to you storing. Murphy's Law decided to show up, and yesterday I received a recall card! I called one dealership and they were not helpful, which was disheartening. My husband told me to call Cavalier at Chesapeake Square, where we used to take our vehicles when we lived over there. Phil was FANTASTIC and sympathetic. He told me not to worry, he'd done the recall already for other vehicles, and to go ahead and bring her in THAT DAY, and it'd get taken care of. It took me longer to drive over then it did to get the recall fixed lol. This place is VERY military friendly, compassionate, and I appreciate the level of attention they give. read more

This review pertains to their service dept only: While their work was good, their communications are awful! Over 3 days, I called there about a dozen times. A receptionist answers the phone and, no matter what you need or how desperately you PLEAD to speak to a live person, you end up in someone's voicemail. So I went online and saw they have a "CHAT LIVE" feature. I click it, give my name and tell them I'm checking to see if my car is done so I can pick it up. The result, "I'd like to have a person from the Service Dept contact you to help find the information you're looking for. What is the best phone number to reach you?" .... so I had to leave a chat "voicemail"!! SOOO FRUSTRATING! read more

Have you ever taken your vehicle in for a recall and end up with your car no longer drivable ? That's what happened to me. I took my car in for coolant issue which took them almost a month to fix and they did not offer me a rental. The day I go in to pick up my vehicle they tell me " we fixed your coolant now it's a issue with your engine and we cannot cover that." My engine was fine prior to bringing my car in now my engine is gone and they cannot fix it or provide any assistance. I'm devastated for how I've been treated and the lack of communication I've endured. I would advise everyone to stay away from this location. Please please please. I don't have experience with any other locations but if you don't want to lose your car, Be provided horrible service, and receive little to no feedback please don't come here. read more

I received terrible communication from the service rep, Mike, the entire time while my vehicle was with them for repairs.Yes, we are all aware that the pandemic has slowed down the delivery of parts, but to not be realistic with me about how long the repair would take was a recipe for disaster. My car has been with them for over two weeks and I was never contacted by them on the status. My husband and I had to call them to get any updates . If they had just taken the initiative to communicate with us then I honestly wouldn't be so displeased with the service. There were many remedies to this issue. However, the service representative never offered a loaner vehicle. You would think a dealership looking to sale cars would have taken this time to try to get a new customer. Thank goodness I have a job with flexible hours. I don't know how my husband and I would have worked out using one vehicle with a strict work schedule. When I went to pick the car up. My biggest issue was that the service representative was not wearing his mask correctly. I just recently loss someone from COVID and I am being very careful these days. He finally pulled his mask up once he realized that I refused to approach him once his mask was on his face properly. I really have no words for this experience. You'd think they'd treat their customers better during these hectic times and at the very least respect the guidelines for preventing the spread of this disease. read more

DON'T DO IT. Find somewhere else to go! I had my car towed there to have my transmission looked at. One of the service guys calls at 7:30 in the morning and right off the bat tells me them just looking at it will be $130. Later that day he calls back to tell me I need a new transmission for $7,000! And then he tries to sell me one of their cars. Unbelievable. So today I called to let them know I will be having my car towed from there. Two hours of phone tag later, and I'm finally done with them. The receptionist is rude, and the cashier wasn't much better. It's tough to get a hold of anyone you actually need to speak to, and when you get their voicemail they don't call back. I wouldn't recommend this place for anything. read more

Went here to get a faulty brake line replaced as well as an air-bag recall, they ended up having my car for over three days. This wouldn't have been such an issue if they were better at communicating. Got put on hold constantly to only be hung up on after 30 minutes of waiting. Not only this, but when I received my car back they informed me they broke a part on my car. While they are fully willing to fix this part fully compensated I am worried they will once again keep my car longer than I am available to have it there for. This dealership should be avoided at all cost due to lazy management and poor customer service. (hire all those people applying rather than keeping old dogs who clearly refuse to learn new tricks) read more

Updated Review: Further fantastic service with this location. Found a screw in my rear tire this morning, called Ford Roadside Assistance but the man they sent to swap out my tire for a spare was unable to help due to my lug nuts being stripped out. I had just paid $9.67 per lug nut for replacements in December(one month ago) at the Military Highway Cavalier location as they told my husband I had "bulging" LN's. Had my Ford Escape taken to this Portsmouth Blvd location and explained that I have a leak in one of my tires due to a screw in the tread and that Roadside Assistance couldn't get the tire off. I also showed them my receipt from the other location where I had paid for new lug nuts less than a month ago and explained that they obviously had not been replaced. Phil at the service desk was apologetic and more than willing to help. I walked out today with no cost to me for both repairing my tire and replacing the lug nuts that were stripped on not only the damaged tire, but my other three as well. I'm honestly so happy we purchased our 2016 F-150 at this Cavalier location and not the other in August. I have had two separate issues with the Military Hwy Cavalier's service center in both quality and customer service. I know both dealerships are under Cavalier, but this Portsmouth Blvd one has a fantastic staff and is so much more readily available to help you and provide a solution to your problem. I went in as a walk-in because I had surgery the next day and needed to get a quick oil change. They was busy and I felt like if you didn't have an appointment then it would be hard for them to fit you in. But Ashley was great! She checked with the technicians and they said I would be there until 6. She then asked me to sit down in the waiting area while she saw what she could do. Within 30 mins I was walking out. She exhibited great customer service, gave me the necessary paperwork for my inspection, and was very fast. There are closer Ford places to me, but for that service I will continue to go to this one. read more

People here are great, problem is with the new Ford Trucks, simply put don't do it. I'm 8k miles in on a brand new F150 and being told I have to have a new engine put in. I purchased the factory built Ford truck of my dreams after my 2007 blew up 70k miles in. I should have learned my lesson, what's worse is that the buy back strings you along for 3 weeks then tells you you're denied and the only option you have is to file with BBB. I will now be stuck with a truck that Ford knows has lost its value, will continue to have issues because it's now being taken apart and put back together and the only response I get is "call a lawyer." If you're gonna put out a bad product be ready to stand by it, Ford is not doing this. I only hope I can trick someone else into buying this pieced together 2018 when I get it back and get a Chevy. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. I brought my car in because it smelled like gas inside my car. Didn't think much of it, just wanted to have it looked at. As soon as they popped the hood they found oil from my recent oil change at "Take 5 Oil" everywhere and that the technician at "Take 5 Oil" never put the cap back on. The company was refusing to pay for all that needed to be done and these guys really went to bat for me. I'm 5 months pregnant, new to town, with a husband out at sea. I had nobody to help me but these mechanics and customer service reps and managers treated me like family -- and took care of all of it in one day so I could go to work. I know very little about cars and engines and I have been taken advantage of in the past by other mechanics, but these guys are the real, honest deal. If you want a good, quick service by RELIABLE people who actually care about you and not just how much money they can get you for, go to these guys. read more

Cavalier Ford in Portsmouth told my daughter her car needed major front end work to the tune of $3,000 in order to pass VA inspection. Shocked, she took it to another place a few weeks later for a second opinion: It didn't need the front end work at all. Just needed one windshield wiper. Passed VA inspection with no problems. . . . Isn't it illegal to falsify work on a vehicle? UGH !! read more

This is the second indent 1st in Aug they forgot to connect a part back so my check engine light was on. Then 12/4/2019 I take my SUV in for another oil change and this morning my SUV wouldn't start. Had to call several times just to talk with someone. And Mr. Archer said he told me that I had a lot of corrosion on my battery while walking to the cashier. I'm confused if you know something is wrong I thought you were supposed to tell me so that I would have the opportunity to have it service. I brought my 07 Ford Edge there to diagnose why my check engine light was on and my car misfiring. I told them I was told it was due to ignition coil 2 needing to be replaced. I also asked them to do my state inspection. I was told my check engine light was due to ignition coil 2 & 4 needing to be replaced and all 6 spark plugs. I asked will that fix my problem I was told yes. They do the work the technician said he couldn't get the car back together because he took the entire engine apart. Then he gets everything together and says the light came back on and I needed to replace my ecm. I asked again will this fix my check engine light and they say yes. I let them do the work they say "after performing all repairs, re-tested system for proper operation and found no further issues. I pick up my truck I drive home the check engine light comes right back on that same evening. I call them back and they said to bring the vehicle back that following Tuesday. I take the vehicle back and they have it all day from 9-4p and call me back to say that coil pack 4 needs to be replaced I didn't have my service sheet in front of me but asked if that was the same coil He already fixed she says she wasn't sure but they would cover the service charge and I could just pay for the part. I come to pick the car up that same evening and then she says if the check engine light comes back on then the problem is my catalytic converter. I say I don't believe that because why would the catalytic converter cause my truck to misfire and like it was doing when I brought my car in for the check engine light. My check engine light is still on and when I reached out to Ford motor corporation they first said they would have a electrician come out and work with the technician to verify the issue & that was never done. I get a call from them stating the service manager William a Rodgers is verifying the code coming up now is for the catalytic converters to be replaced and the check engine light is now on for a separate issue. That the check engine light now has nothing to do with my pcm replacement or the coil replacements this is a different issue. Mind you every time this technician Michael Hall says there are no further issues and the car is operating properly it's not and hasn't. I'm out over 3300 and I have the same issue I came in initially with. The only thing the technician is doing is resetting my check engine light and draining my wallet. I will never have them work on my car nor will I patronize this dealership again. No one there is trying to resolve my issue the only thing they want is to charge me for unnecessary work and not trouble shoot what is wrong. This is the worst service I've ever received and I understand why Ford is known for having terrible cars. read more

I am a young African American in the military who has lived in VA for a little over a year now. After searching for the best deal on a mustang, I tracked one down to Cavalier Ford Dealership in Chesapeake. After talking to the dealer on a Friday evening, ( I won't mention his name) I told him I was highly interested in the mustang that I looked at, but need time to make sure my bank will give me the best deal interest wise, and also to run it by my wife. So he told me no problem, "we can hold the vehicle, see you Monday!". I called this dealer Saturday morning, to get the numbers he wrote for me on his card on paper so that I have the info for my wife and also the bank. He did so a few hours later I received the email with the numbers. "Great" I thought, I finally get to have my dream car, that I have been obsessing about for the past 2 years. So Monday morning, I call this dealer to let him know that I wouldn't be able to make as planned, but I could show up the next day to finished the process so I can get this vehicle. Unfortunately this will never happen! He tells me that the vehicle has been sold, and not only that that it was sold Saturday! WTF!! He gives me some B.S., answer saying that he never told me that he was going to hold the vehicle for me, and he didn't think I was serious about the car, and on that Friday someone came after I did, showed interest in the Mustang, (and get this) they put it on hold for them and they purchased it Saturday evening. Not only has this dealer totally spit in my face, he has not even tried to rectify the situation. I had to call three time following our initially conversation on Monday to get him to at least pretend like he gave a sh**. I feel completely discriminated against, and I don't recommend that anybody do business with this dealership! If your black they probably think that you cant afford a new vehicle anyhow. I am currently taking steps to get this place black listed among the military! read more

Three strikes and I'm done with this place. I dropped my expedition for a tune up. After I picked the truck up, my wife started smelling gas in the cabin of the vehicle. I took it back there to find out that the dealership didn't tighten the plugs down all the way for fear of the plugs breaking and it's a known problem according to the service manager. This was dangerous because my kids was breathing gas fumes... I thought it was a parts problem but not a dealership problem.... So I went back there. My expedition needed new window trim to prevent the side windows from being damaged due to streaking (common ford expedition 03-06 recalled problem). So they put the new window trim on and did it wrong. The trim started moving at highway speeds. I bought it back in and they removed the trim from the car and said it was bent so bad that it couldn't be put back. Really? So it was working half way when I brought it in but now it's completely broken? I told the service manager and she said something pulled on it and bent the window? Really? So I guess I broke my own window trim.... So after they ordered the parts twice and three more trips back it's getting fix today. You go to a dealership and pay a big price tag for first time quality service.... You will not get that at this dealership! read more

I had a service appointment for Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Chesapeake Square location. There was a manufacturing defective door panel that needed to be replaced. I checked in at 9:00 A.M. appointment time. I was told that the service would take approximately 3 hours to finish the required work on the door panel. I left the building and went to McDonalds for breakfast, returned and sat in the lobby till 12:00. At 11:59 A.M. the service advisor called and notified me that they had sent my door panel part back and they would have to reorder the part and for me to have the service done within 1 to 1 and 1/2 weeks because they are charged for the part if I do not return in that timetable. I just sat and wasted my entire morning because someone did not know that the part was not in stock. Very Poor Organization. They could have told me initially that I had within 2 weeks to get the service done or the part would be sent back. This is the second time I have had problems with the service at Cavalier. Last time I came in, the service mechanic tried to reinstall a door trim piece on the passenger window. He left the plastic interior cover part off when I picked the vehicle up and had to put it back myself. Not very happy with this dealership! James Waters read more

Larry Loewenthal (sales manager), physically engaged with me on numerous occasions only to see how everything was going. A characteristic I've never observed in the 3 decades of car buying.
