The first time I dealt with Wesley, he diagnosed my engine light that came on. He explained that it signified a recall issue that the dealer would repair at no cost to me. I was very impressed with his honesty, knowing that he easily could have taken advantage of the situation. He didn't even charge me for the diagnosis. I told him I would be back the next time I had any issues with my car. I sent my roommate to him when she was told by another mechanic she needed a repair but she was unhappy with the management at that repair place. Wesley checked her car out and assured her that the repair wasn't necessary. She used Auto Guys to do a full car check before she sold her car to her stepson. His rate was very reasonable. Today they replaced my front brakes because the rotor was making a screeching noise. The dealer had just checked my brakes, supposedly, and told me both brakes had 6mm. I know this wasn't correct or I wouldn't have hurt the rotors. I highly recommend Auto Guys for anyone who wants an honest shop with reasonable prices. I will keep going back! read more

I started coming here after one of the large oil change shops tried to charge me $90 for an oil change that Auto Guys did for around $20. They never try to sell you things you don't need. The hubby has been going here for 3 years now. I have taken my car once recently. Tyler and Don are great! They are friendly, honest, and look out for your best interest. They don't try to rip you off and they tell you what you need done immediately and what can wait. Recently, I have been having problems with my check engine light and my odometer reading "gascap." Had my dad clear it out once as well as jiffy lube and it ckept coming back on. Hubby suspected there was more to it than just a gas cap. So took it here and they diagnosed it fast and told us what needed to be fixed, but could wait until we had to do a smog check. They were extremely busy, but they changed my oil relatively fast as we grabbed lunch at the next plaza over. Read all these great reviews about the shop and expected nothing but the best. I made a phone call asking if I could make an appointment for an oil change. They said that they don't do appointments for oil changes, only walk ins. So I drove over and walked into their office during business hours and noticed it was like a ghost town. I waited for about a half hour till finally someone showed up. He came in and immediately picked up the phone, made a phone call and at the end , went right back to his computer without acknowledging me right there waiting for him. I was driving my car and my engine light came on.... I found this place and took it in early in morning before an appointment. They code the issue and rest the code. Horrible customer service. Stopped in and they said it would be an hour and a half until they could do my oil change. Asked if I could get my car in line and go out for an hour and a half and come back and they said no they don't take appointments and I would have to sit there in their horrible chairs in their horrible waiting room for the hour and a half to have my oil change done. I tried out Auto Guys because of the great reviews on Yelp. I have been happy with them, but today they made me happy enough to write a 5 star review. My wife was neglecting to have her oil changed on her Subaru, but was finally forced to do something when I saw her check engine light was on. First off, they said there was a coupon in the mailer (even though we did not have it) so they gave us the coupon price... $20 for the oil change. They said they would check the engine light for free, which is also nice. Turns out the code was for a timing belt issue. So the guy at Auto Guys calls me and tells me about error code, but goes on to explain that this is probably due to a lack of oil pressure and the oil change would probably fix it. He said that it is idling a bit rough right now, but after driving it around the timing will fix itself. I feel like they could have easily tried to run a timing diagnostics test and charge me for a bunch of stuff that I did not need, but the guy was nice and honest. read more

Over the past 3 years, Don and his staff have replaced my brakes and brake pads on my Lexus SUV, regularly changed my filters and oil, headlights and taillights. My family has 4 cars ('06 Lexus Is-350, '06 Hyundai Sonata, '04 Mercedes E320, '99 Toyota Camry); all are serviced here from regular maintenance to major repair. I would never take my Chrysler 300 here again. My BF has never had a bad time dealing with Don, and she has been a customer for years with them. I don't know why Don did me so wrong. After having my 300 for two 1/2 days and telling me, my BF and my boyfriend that my problem was "possible" due to worn spark plugs and coil $339.00 dollars later, driving from the shop my car still cut off again, so the next day i go back to Don for him to tell me I need to take my 300 to the dealer because he do not have the right equipment to fix my car, and that he didn't tell me that i needed new spark plugs, when its on the paperwork he give me. Now i am out of $339.00 and $130.00 which is what the dealer is going to charge me just to look at my car, Plus what the cost will be to fix it. Don if you knew that you didn't have the right equipment to fix a Chrysler 300 you should have told me and i would have never let you touch my car. Came here because of the positive Yelp reviews. IHave had four oil changes here and always find them fast and courteous. They always tell you approximately how long it will take and I've never had them go over. Don't try to up-sell you on products that you don't need. Tire rotation is free with oil change (at least it is with synthetic, not sure about regular). Price is very competitive. read more

Don fixed a broken bushing on my brake & Clutch pedal assembly which required them to remove the whole assembly actually. They had it completed under 2hrs and for a great price. I wish I could give 0 starts but 1 is as low as it will go! I brought my Taurus in for an oil change and it was the biggest mistake EVER! To your face these guys are nice, but under the hood they run a shady and dishonest shop. So my Taurus needed a new AC and they gave us a good price so for $700 they replaced the whole system. 2 weeks later it stops getting cold and my power steering pump is leaking, so we take it back. They ran the dye test to see what's leaking, estimated us at $1,053 to fix everything, and asked us to drop it off at 8am the next Tuesday May 29. These guys were not open at 8am; they were 45 minutes late and didn't seem to care. So I confirmed the work they'll be doing and left my car. They said it would be done that day but at the latest I could pick it up the next morning. They call me at 1:30pm and say it will be done tomorrow, May 30. I call the next morning, Wednesday at 8:45am and ask about my car. I was told the same, should be done today but at the latest you can pick it up tomorrow morning. At 12:35 I get a call and the guy on the phone said "The hose to your water pump is broken, it is a $75 part and I won't charge you labor." I said okay and he said it will be done in the morning. I call the next morning, Thursday May 31 at 8:45am to check in about my car. Same line was fed to me "it will be done today at the latest in the morning." This is when I realized they're pulling a fast one on me! Something was not right and a few hours later I found my suspicions were right! 1:45pm I get a call that my alternator had died during the test run and it was $500 to replace! I was furious! I called him out on this and exclaimed he was doing shady work. I told him to put my battery on a charger, get all of my broken parts together, and I am coming to get my car. When I arrived the man who was working on my car, his name is Taylor, got in my face for accusing his shop of being dishonest and he refused to give me my broken parts because he wanted to talk to my fiancé. He reason was because, and I quote, " You're a woman and don't know what you're talking about." I was fuming and said I may not be a mechanic but I am not stupid. All the parts that broke in your possession were in the same proximity as the other parts you were working on. I paid, left, and immediately took it to my usual mechanic, and future brother-in-law, who confirmed that the Auto Guys power washed and steam cleaned my engine compartment causing the alternator to short and blow a 175 amp fuse! That is unheard of! They also didn't tighten ANY of the bolts on my parts, my mechanic could actually tighten them with his bare hands! The kicker is the reason why they had to clean the engine compartment in the first place! THEY INSTALLED MY POWER STEERING PUMP WRONG, TURNED THE CAR ON, AND POWER STEERING FLUID SPRAYED EVERYWHERE! On Thursday June 7, 2012 at 11am I was home sick and my fiancé was working, so I asked my father to go to Auto Guys and pick up my broken parts. They told him my broken parts had "core charge fees" and needed to be sent back to the manufacturer. He was home by 11:30am empty handed. When I spoke to the mechanic the week before, Thursday May 31 at 1:45pm, he agreed to give me all of my parts back and said nothing about a "core charge fee". They ruined my car! I am lucky enough to have a family member who is an amazing mechanic and fixed everything. Sexiest, dishonest, and terrible mechanics! read more

My car cooling and radiator went wrong! I am not knowing the San Marcos area well. I happened checking into Yelp, and I drove my car there. Sitting in the waiting area, I was nervous and worried if this is the right place to trust. I observed there are several customers came in/out with their positive attitude and happy faces with their services here. Spoke one of the customer who was sitting next to me, he said that he has been taking his car here for ten years and he is happy and trusted the mechanics there.
