My wife chose Knight's Automotive for the excellent reviews she found here. If you are about to do the same, please read our experience (for your own good). This is the story of OUR WORST NIGHTMARE !! TLDR (Too long did not read): 1. Our car went in driving and came out completely undrivable - 8k minimum to repair 2. The explanation as to what happened changed as more documents were produced 3. We tried to resolve the matter before escalating it 4. We are pursuing them with the Bureau of Automotive Repair and the Small Claim Courts. We brought a Lincoln Navigator (165k miles) driving fine with a cylinder misfiring issue. We asked to changed sparks and plugs. They told us to do a diagnostic first. We agree. The transmission broke by itself, they say during the diagnostic. The car no longer drives: it's 8k to fix the transmission!!!! Plus whatever is required to fix the misfire. They first claimed the transmission broke when the technician "was about to test drive when he heard a loud snap/pop from vehicle". BUT a few days later we found in the notes that the transmission broke "having the vehicle under load a popping noise was heard and the vehicle no longer moves in drive." They never told us about that. We discovered it incidentally in the diagnostic notes. Note about our car: it passed a pre inspection check a month before we took it in. No issue with the transmission was flagged during the inspection, nor when we were driving. The car was driving just fine. A few details to give a feel of how they handle the situation: My wife walked in with a diagnostic from AutoZone, that showed cylinder misfiring. They recommended a full diagnostic that we agreed to. It was under their professional recommendation and diagnostic procedure that transmission broke. Yet they don't recognise any liability. My wife in the shop started crying, she was struggling to understand in English what happened (she is French, we moved here 2 months ago). She asked the staff to explain multiple times what exactly happened, at some point the owner said "You know I am not an expert, I can't explain exactly what happened. But I can explain the overall process" When I offered to pay 50% of the transmission to one of the staff (before we knew about the contradictory explanation), he said he would explain the situation to the owner. When the owner called me back, it was clear that he knew nothing about the circumstances of how the transmission broke nor that I offered to pay half of the repair. So he regrouped with his staff. When he called me back he insisted that I come to the shop, I explained "I can't, I don't have a car" so then he continued to explain they will make NO DISCOUNT - NOTHING. So I asked " You wanted me to drive to your shop to offer me NOTHING, and no solution but to pay your 8k quote and whatever we need to do for the misfiring issue?" The next day, the owner changed his mind. He offered a used transmission at 140k miles for $4k (instead of $5,200). His own staff had advised us to NOT take a used transmission the day before (it's too much risk). So I asked the owner if they could keep the car for a few days until I organise to tow it somewhere else. He agreed but said I had to for the $170 diagnostic fee!!! The diagnostic was never completed and we still didn't know what caused the misfire. I agreed to pay to release the car asap. I documented this conversation and sent it. A few hours later, he changed his mind again!! The $170 fees were waived. read more

I bought a car off of someone and it broke down within a week of having it and I took it to this mechanic shop because the man that sold me the car said he would bring it here for its maintenance. I got to the shop where the man was waiting for me and they looked at the car and immediately blamed me for the problem when I had nothing to do with it. They said that they had it 2 weeks prior and there was no issues at all with the car, but all they had the car for was an oil change not inspecting the rest of the car.I then took it to the dealership to get a diagnostic and they said that there was a problem with the car and it had been happening for a while. read more

We took it to another mechanic who told us it didn't need any of the repair work Knights's Auto recommended. And Jerrod, we were definitely there. After taking my car to a dealership, I was told I needed over $2,000 worth of repairs--stuff like suspension and alignment work that seemed way too expensive. But when I brought my car to Knights for a second opinion, they were super honest and thorough in their inspection. They told me that my alignment and suspension were in great shape and none of the things the dealership suggested actually needed to be replaced (shame on Mazda of Escondido for being so dishonest). As a woman, I've had my fair share of experiences where I felt like I was being taken advantage of, but Knights changed that completely. They were kind, straightforward, and saved me a ton of money. I've been taking my Nissan to Knights Automotive for repairs and annual servicing ever since I moved to Oceanside nearly 10 years ago. I know better than to go to a dealership, as the charges are always much higher. Knights goes one better in that their prices are better, and they will even help you save money. For example, several years ago, I needed a small sidelight, and the manager at that time suggested that if I ordered the part myself and brought it it, I could save some money. He gave me all the information needed to find the right part from the best source. Where has anyone ever gone that offered that option? Jared Goldberg, the new owner, and Jeff at the front desk, couldn't be nicer. Jared drove me to a coffee shop one day when the wait was going to be long, and on my last visit Jeff showed me all the repairs I needed to get my car ready for a long trip, spelling out the one that was immediately necessary and several other small items that could wait. And the height of service? If your car has to spend the night, they will drive you home if you live within 12 miles and pick you up again in the morning. Amazing!!! read more

I just took my car in this week and all they did was replace my battery. They charged me $415! $165 for diagnostic (I'm not sure what they really diagnosed but ok), $230 for the battery (they didn't even give me a warranty), and $35 ish for "labor" Had I known it was just the battery, I would've gone to autozone or Walmart. That's insane! If they can rip you off that much for a battery, I couldn't imagine getting anything else repaired there. read more

So, I searched for another shop and have now been to Knight's twice now for some good sized repairs on my 2008 Acura MDX. I appreciate being able to talk through the repairs that are needed and feel confident that the evaluations and estimates are honest. Knights is the best! Its a good 20-30min drive from my house but I trust them with my car and that what is needed. Its a great price and they keep me updated on future fixes down the road. On April 26, 2024, took my Toyota Tacoma to Knight's. Waited about 1.5 hours for my front brake pads to be replaced. After work was completed paid Jared, the owner, $464.69. This amount included $330. for labor. Have since checked this out and was GREATLY OVERCHARGED! The labor charge in this shop was $220. per hour! read more

Knight's Automotive has been my car doctor for many years, and it is a well-run business that has served my car needs well. I bought my first Infniti, a G20, in 2005, and a friend reccomended Knight's for service. I gave that car to a friend 10 years later, with 275,000 mi. on the odometer, and it's still running great today, thanks to regular maintenance at Knight's. I wanted to stay with Knight's so I bought another Infiniti, a G35, and because I was a loyal customer they didn't charge me to do a pre-purchase inspection (which everyone should do before buying a used car). I have since put 80,000 miles on the G35, and just had spark plugs and struts replaced, and my car runs beautifully. I trust Knight's to always tell me what work needs to be done now, and in the future, so I can plan my time and money, Despite having changed ownership in the last year, Knight's continues to do the best work! read more

Having seen all the negative comments, we're concerned, but felt we owed Knights a fare chance. We went ant yes there has been a price increase. In talking to the new owner, he told us that Rodger (previous owner) had raised the rates prior to selling the business and said he should have done it months ago. We checked our recent invoice against a previous invoice for the same service (before the business was sold) and exact same charges. As we know everything is going up, Knights still provides the same great service, with the same technicians. Took my Jeep in for a mysterious issue. The engine would shut off while driving. After diagnosing, Sean wasn't able to replicate the issue. He suggested keeping an eye on it. He didn't just start replacing parts randomly like other shops. Didn't even charge me for a diagnosis. Turned out to be bad gas. I added an octane booster and everything works fine. Jared was able to get my car in the next day and was able to resolve my braking issue (resurface rotors). The dealership wanted to put new brakes and rotors on my car, which I didn't need, especially only having 35,000 miles on my car. I saved $1,000 not going with the dealership.
