California should take a lesson from WA and separate their DMV's into to two places: one for licensing and one for vehicle registration. Sure, it might be annoying to have to go to two different places in different parts of town but so far, the longest my husband and I had to wait in line to change two car registrations from Connecticut to WA was maybe 15-20 minutes; and the people working there are actually *gasp* NICE! I love it! I recently went back to transfer the title of my car from Connecticut to WA since we just payed it off; I was out of there in less than 10 minutes! Then went again a few days ago to pick up new tabs for my husband's car since we renewed the registration online, it was right there waiting for me for pickup the next day. Seriously, California DMV, maybe if licensing and registration were in separate locations, y'all wouldn't hate your job so much and take it out on the customers; and we'd save ourselves 2 hours playing the waiting game. I agree that the Washington system is so much easier and faster than Calif., (but then I remember that there are more people and cars in one county of California than the entire state of Washington.) Spent 60+ years in Calif and never found a time when I was doing car licensing during the same trip I was in for drivers license update. So separate locations are not an issue. People at JRO are delightfully friendly, and helpful! Washington has fewer rules as well. In California, I could not get my mother in laws name removed from a car title even though I presented a death certificate, and was the other person on the family trust, (also trust papers presented) But in Washington, they used their brain, Realized I couldn't get her signature on a document relinquishing the car. Apparently, moving to WA is a pain, when it comes to moving your Leased Vehicle from one State to another... But, the people here are lovely. I, thankfully had a conversation with someone, to learn that I had to register my car in someplace other than where I could get my drivers license. That was a little weird. But, ok, I am in a new place, they do things in new ways, no problem. So, I walked into the JRO, and was happily directed downstairs. Where I had a wonderful lady help me. There was a sign that said 'no cell phone usage at the counter' which I applaud, right until I had to call the national dealership for my car, which I don't own, because I leased it, and I have to have the title sent to WA, to be re-titled in a WA title, which is 150.00!!! But, that is a State of WA issue, and the kind lady at the JRO let me freak out, just a little, then let me make the call to the National Dealership, and made sure I was well on my way to getting my car registered. I'll be back... because I have apparently only started this process, but I have a feeling I will be met with the same friendly faces. read more

I-LOVE-THIS-PLACE! Honestly, I had a little bit of a "Well CALiFORNiA has AcTuaL DMVs where you can get your driver's license aNd register your car" kind of attitude when my roommate told me we'd have to go to two different places to get those things transferred. You know what eLsE Califonia DMVs have? Long @*$ lines and spawns of Satan - can I SaY "Satan" on Yelp? - working behind the counters. Okay, it's not all tHaT bad... only mOsT of the workers are. I digress. I got to Auto Licensing Jro Inc at around 2:15pm to transfer my vehicle. My 5-year-old daughter and I walked into the top floor and was greeted by a warm, sweet scent (maple, we were told); it was a TiNy bit strong for us because we're sensitive to smells, but it was pleasant enough and you forget about it after awhile. The lady was nice and directed us downstairs. There was no line so I walked up to one of the two ladies (Ms. Alia) who greeted me with a "hello" and a big smile. I told her I wanted to transfer my car registration and right away asked if there was anyway to waive the fees or do a payment plan (because I saw online that it would be a LOT of money coming out of state) ... sadly the answer was "No". What I liked though was that after listening to me chat away, BEFORE starting the paperwork she asked if I wanted to wait until another day to do the paperwork; it sounds silly, but you would be surprised how many of the people I've come across just keep stream-rolling ahead without confirming with me even though I show hesitancy - it was a nice change. So while she did my paperwork, I talked and asked more questions... honestly, if I didn't, I could have been done in 5 minutes. ALSO, there's a table in the corner with kids books and mega blocks and cars that my daughter got into right away. It might not seem like a big deal to people without kids, but to me, I just felt a sudden wave of relief because it wasn't aNoTHeR place where I had to keep her right next to me fidgeting and being bored and uncomfortable. AND I was looking forward to the bowl of candy (the first review just made it sound so appealing) and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. They had a wide variety of hard candies and I found out later they had a separate stash of soft candies for the kiddies; they've thought of everything! ^_^ $90.25 and 15 minutes later, I have FRESH Washington plates with new tabs (which Ms. Alia put on for me). Also, the other lady there was Ms. Judy and she was awesome, too. I talked to her a little during the first trip and then I came back a few minutes later with more questions [ XD], waited in the 3-4 person line that developed while I was gone and ended up at her desk. This office just produces such a thick feeling of calm and welcome-ness that you can almost taste it...and maybe it's just the maple's effect on you :P read more

If I could give zero stars I would! My 80 year old neighbor is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, to help him I got the application for a handicap placard filled out by his oncologist, when I called to see if I could pick one up there, the gal who answered the phone said I needed more than the application filled out, and told me to read the top, I did, and preceded to ask her again what exactly I needed, she then said talk to his doctor he will understand, her tone of voice was so condescending, the absolute rudest lady I've had to deal with while trying to help my neighbor. I would drive to Seattle before stepping a foot in that business! read more

JRO is the place to go if there is anything unusual about your vehicle. I restored a 1974 motorcycle given to me by a relative and went to my local DMV office to transfer ownership of the bike to my name. I also wanted to register the bike as a Collector Vehicle and use the original 1974 license plate. I knew all of this was allowed by the DMV because I carefully read the Collector Vehicle rules on the DMV web site. The clerk at my local DMV office brought her supervisor over to talk to me because she did not know how to issue a title for the bike. Her supervisor said I would need to: 1. Apply for a regular WA title and plates. 2. When the regular title arrived in the mail, I would need to come back and apply for a Collector Vehicle title and plates. 3. When the Collector Vehicle title arrived in the mail, I would need to come back a third time and apply for a new Collector Vehicle title using my 1974 license plate. I called the main DMV help line and they said the transfer of ownership and the issuing of a Collector Vehicle title with historic plates could all be done at the same time if the DMV clerk followed the correct procedure. They gave me specific instructions and told me to pass them on to my local DMV clerk. Rather than training my local DMV office in DMV procedures, I figured I would try driving to Poulsbo to see if JRO could help me. The staff at JRO understood what I wanted to do and registered the bike as a Collector Vehicle using the historic plate. They were fast and friendly and completed the paperwork correctly. They did everything in one visit and did not need to call anyone for help. I still go to my local DMV office for simple transactions like getting new tabs, but I recommend JRO if you are doing anything out of the ordinary. read more

These guys are great! There was no line when I walked in, just one person being helped at the front. Another employee quickly appeared to help me, so I waited less than 30 seconds. It took slightly longer than usual to get my stuff done, but she apologized and explained that the state had just changed their entire computer system for this stuff a few days earlier. She was very nice and helpful throughout the whole transaction. I was happily surprised to find out that they accepted credit cards (the one in Bremerton does not, cash or check only) The best part is that the whole time I was there, my 3 year old daughter was in the corner at their kids' table happily coloring and playing with toy cars! Normally she would hate going somewhere like that and maybe even end up lying on the floor crying. I went into the building expecting a long, stressful experience, but it was the complete opposite! Even if this isn't the closest auto licensing office to you, go out of your way to drive to Poulsbo, its worth it. read more

We are a military family living outside of Washington State. All our vehicles are registered in WA. JRO Licensing is our "go to" licensing agency and we go to them a lot (Cars, motorcycles, campers...) We have used them for over a decade, because they go above and beyond. In fact, while we were transferring from one state to another one of our cars died.
