The dealer looked at my 'check engine light' in my 10 year old car and prescribed a $1500 replacement of the throttle actuator. I'm aware of dealer service pricing, so I asked AI for service shops with reputations for honesty and integrity, and this place was one of the recommended shops. I made an appointment, which was very easy and quick, and Carlos took it in. He recommended reprogramming it, not replacing, got the problem corrected for about $800. Everything is now running smoothly. In addition he pointed out an issue with my battery connection, and I was able to take my car back to the quick oil change place I use and get them to fix it for free. Communication was very good with ASE throughout, they were very friendly and helpful, and I am very happy with the experience. Would definitely use them again! read more

It was ok service upon arrival, they took two weeks to service the vehicle when they stated it would only take less then a week ( they said 3-4 days) We left the vehicle clean upon drop off. Two weeks later upon pickup this is what we found -rat dropping in multiples places in the vehicle -chewed upholstery -chewed seat -chewed property (shoes, baby items and paper work) -a foul stench that smelled like a nest. I had to request the owner come out and look for himself. At which point he went into defense mode and completely tried to brush himself off of any responsibility or accountability even though it was in his care the whole time, we were treated very poorly and unprofessionally, he said he would check the cameras and see if a rat got in but if he didn't see it he wouldn't be responsible. He told me I should go through my insurance to have it handled, stated that he " was done and wasn't going to do shit about it" Bottom line, our vehicle was returned to us in very poor condition, filthy and full of rat droppings, with trash, our property was chewed up, the carpet and seats were torn and it smelled really bad. The owner failed to respond in a professional manner and instead left us standing on the lot without a solution. read more

We came back to pick up our 2013 Toyota Corolla after we had to take it in because all the electronics were acting up crazy and the break and acceleration wouldn't respond. We towed it to this location and The guy there said it was a battery problem and the alternator problem. So the next day we go to pick it up and they charged me $900 and gave me the keys - I turned the car and move it forward to exit their location but it wouldn't work in reverse. We couldn't even exit their small parking lot and had to ask the mechanic to help us push it back. He acts up all confused and plugs the car into the computer and says: "ah that makes sense ! You have X, Y, and Z issues " - at this point everything he was saying was debatable. You're telling me that you didn't plug the car into the computer before to see this and now it's a surprise?? So he goes and gives us another estimate of $600 to fix the car for something completely new with a vague explanation of things. At this point me and my wife are asking him questions because it's hard to believe what comes out of his mouth. We ask: "why couldn't you identify the problem in the first place ? how come you didn't see this huge problem ? I mean I couldn't even go in reverse ! " He replied: "well, it didn't happen to me" Okay yeah, but he had to plug it into the computer the first time to identify all the issue. Anyways, we had no other option but to pay or else we had to tow it somewhere else which it would have been a huge inconvenience. Everything felt like it was a planned gimmick to take our money. Everything felt extremely weird and unethical. We took our car after paying them $1500 + for a fix on a Corolla 2013 - I felt like it would have been better to sell the car at that point. I'm new to San Antonio and am very skeptical about dealing with auto shop due to the reputation a lot of them have. My sister who has been a resident here in San Antonio recommended me to them. The receptionist is nice, so that a plus but that's also a must have. My check engine light came on the day before so I take it here to try to fix the problem. First they charged $97 to do a diagnostic yet due to the codes they had to keep it overnight, the next day my sister had to call them to get an update and was told due to the codes they would need to run two more tests for $189. each in which once the problem was found, it would be additional fees for the repairs and the $189. would not be added to go towards the repair cost Yep thanks for again confirming the reputation car shops have. I tried to call them and ask some questions about some major engine work I need. The woman cut me off and said she couldn't answer my questions without the VIN. So I politely said thank you and hung up. So I guess I'll have to go to the dealership. I've tried to work with a few shop and they are either rude or just don't want my business. It's crazy! These guys did an awesome job for me and I highly recommend them! I purchased a used Toyota Avalon so that I could drive it for long work trips to avoid wearing out at a much newer car that I have. Unfortunately I didn't know this year range of Toyotas and Lexus have a serious problem with oil leakage... This was a major piece of work typically requiring removal of the engine and transmission. The Toyota dealership quoted an outrageous amount of money. ASE saved me somewhere between $500 and $800 and did an incredible job. The work was done promptly and aside from my not leaving a trail of oil any longer, you can't tell they had half my car disassembled. read more

A/C went out and instead of other repair shops throwing parts at it, I received the free A/C check, paid for the more detailed one and by finding out what actually needed fixing, they saved me 1200.00 compared to my other quotes. My experience with Auto Service was exceptional. I went in with the parts already purchased that needed to get changed. Fortunately, my car didn't have to wait that long for a service (went early in the am). James was very helpful with the process of diagnosticating the car, and after getting my car up and running again. He communicated clearly what was going on and that there were other issues I need to get fixed as soon as possible. I definitely will come back to them for future services. Disappointed! Review on customer service not on quality of work as i didn't get a chance to try it. Based on reviews I called to inquire about an a/c service. Wanted to have an idea how long i was going to be waiting. Receptionist (girl) said hour to hour and a half but needed to be there by 4 pm. I said I'll be there at noon. Drove there from Boerne and when i arrived I was told they couldn't see the vehicle till at least 2 pm. Who are they helping? The waiting room is empty. Besides she could've told me that over the phone and not waste my time. I said ok, I'll come back at 2, then she goes, "well, its on a fcfs basis and we may not be able to get to it". Lol!! What a joke. Instead I called the dealer and set an appt for tomorrow am. I can just drop off vehicle get a loaner and leave. Maybe more expensive but certainly hassle free. read more

2013 Kia- took it to the dealership and got a long report of things wrong with my vehicle that I didn't even have wrong to begin with. So I went to Auto Service Experts and spoke to James, who immediately had his technician look at it. They were very thorough and explained everything to me in detail. Nothing the dealership tried to sell me was a problem. However, with out even telling them my initial issues with my vehicle, the addressed every single one of them. Not only that- James was quick to find me the parts I needed and give me a very reasonable quote on both parts and labor. San Antonio was my starting point for a 3 month motorhome (full of reservations) trip to Alaska. I had a relatively minor accident involving my Ford Fiesta but the damage involved the engine, body and my installed towing equipment. Having never had an accident before I was pretty clueless. ASE was extremely helpful from the start - arranging towing and explaining how the process worked with my insurance - Lena was the best and definitely gave "fast and friendly service." I was told straight away that AES did not offer body work but Carlos told me he had a place he works for and could have everything done within a week and a half - When I explained my circumstances he committed to having my tow vehicle ready in a week - essentially 5 working days - I was doubtful but he assured me. I did have to change travel plans and cancel some reservations but only for my first 4 stops - and would be able to get back on track and in Nevada by the 14th. ALL work was done, including re-installing my attached tow equipment. I realize its a long-winded post but I can't say enough about the caring and apparent quality as well as the "going above and beyond" so so few companies are willing to do. I walked in here the other day in need of some help. I had been hearing some kind of scraping underneath my car and wad worried it could be something dangerous. THe young lady at the counter said she wasn't that busy and she could get one of her guys to check it pretty fast cause i was on my way to work. It turns out my heat shield or some sort of shield under my car was hanging down dragging on the street. The guys put some screws in it and was nice enough to have me on the road in ten minutes. We found ASE on line and rolled the dice... we needed an engine fully replaced which they did, poorly. To add insult to injury, while my vehicle was at their shop, under their protection, it was broken into and damaged. They declined to fix the damages, and mentioned that they had encountered a lot of car break in's on their lot. Uh then do something about it! The replaced engine made unusual sounds and didn't seem to be running correctly. It eventually completely broke down..we brought the vehicle back to the shop where they quoted astronomical prices to fix the repairs that undoubtedly came from their initial work. Carlos, the owner gives fantastic customer service; he even text my husband a couple weeks after our repair to see how the vehicle was running. This is now "our mechanic". I was running errands when I got a "Check Hybrid Battery" message on my dash. I absolutely hate going to the dealership, so I checked Yelp and found that Auto Service Experts were just a few miles from where I was. I called and they advised me to bring the car in. They told me over the phone that there would be a $90 diagnostic fee that would be applied toward any repair. I drove directly there and they had someone look at the car immediately to see if it was something that could be addressed quickly or if I would need to leave the car. Within 15 minutes the tech came in and said that there was a glitch that set off the message. He reset it and it disappeared. He advised to come back if it came on again but otherwise I was good to go. I went to the desk expecting to pay the $90 charge that they warned me about but was told that they were not going to charge me anything! I was very impressed and will definitely return for any future auto repair. read more
