After I took my car to get the smog check done nearby, and then I got the oil changed at Auto Star. I forgot that they have Smog Check next door. Oh well, I asked for both oil change and tire rotation services. Harry gave me two price quotes ($ 40+ tax for the regular oil change and $60+ tax for the synthetic oil change). $20 additional for tire rotation. His worker helped me to do the oil change and tire rotation. He took his time to inspect my car and check the tire pressure. I had gotten the left front wheel bearing & the two front lower control arms replaced @ this location. After this repair was completed, I noticed the left front suspension was still squeaking so I took my car back to this facility.. the owner acted like I didn't know what I was talking about.. He proceeded to drive & supposedly tighten several parts underneath my car.. I paid over $1000 for this repair & the left front area is still making noise regarding the suspension.. Nice local shop. First, I got my oil changed there (you can bring your own). Then I came back another day to fix a leakage dealing with my washer. I called morning of to make an appointment. He said he had some free time then if I wanted to drop by. So I got there and was done in about 35 minutes (leakage and brake light change). Both warning lights turned off and I drove away happy. He also changed my brake light for free, which I thought was nice. I did bring my own bulb though. I'll be going back to this shop for sure. read more

I've saved money so many times by going to Auto Star and getting an honest assessment I wouldn't have received anywhere else. I took my Toyota there expecting serious brake repair. Harry told me my brakes were perfectly fine and needed no advice at all, just a cleaning. I've had so many experiences like that over the years, when I thought my vehicle needed serious service but Harry found a minor problem instead. This week he fixed my AC which had an electrical issue. The Toyota dealership would've ripped me off no doubt (they have in the past). My whole family has been going to Harry for years. Been going here for my 2017 Honda CRV for a while now. I usually come here for an oil change because their prices are as cheap as it gets. I changed synthetic oil elsewhere for $75 but was only charged $45 here! Not only did he change my oil but my tires had low pressure, so they fixed and recalibrated it without having to ask them. Also, they inspected that my brake was no good so they recommended a brake change as well. Great genuine service with great prices! They may come off as rude because of the language and culture gap but they truly care about your car. read more

I would give this place negative ratings if the option was given to me. AUTO STAR- formally known as Honda Star... TOTAL RIP OFF! My boyfriend originally liked Harry (the owner) because he brought his car to him once before and he said he liked his work and thought that his prices were reasonable. He had his rotors replaced about 2 months ago and brought them into Honda Star so that Harry could resurface them for him. We later get a call from Harry stating that his rotors were worn down and had to be replaced AGAIN because he said the other mechanic replaced them with old rotors and that was the reason why the rotors were making noises. My boyfriend told him to replace the rotors- trusting that Harry wouldn't rip him off. When we go back to pick up the car, he asked for the old rotors back. A little hesitant, Harry returns his rotors back to him. We go and take these rotors into a certified Honda dealership to have them remeasured- low and behold, BRAND NEW ROTORS! Pretty pissed- we go back to Honda Star to try and get our money back. Not only is Harry uncooperative and acts like he didn't know what was wrong- but then his fobby, gangster son Danny jumps into the discussion and cusses me out, tells ME to stop getting into his Dad's face and yelling that its our fault. Keep in mind, this entire time, we're a good 5 feet distance from one another and its just normal conversation of how we feel and what happened and how we would like this matter resolved. Danny's exact words to Harry in front of us? "*&^K THAT! THEY ALREADY SIGNED THE PAPERS RIGHT??? NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT NOW." I have gone to Harry since 2004-2005 and I have never had a problem with him. His quotes seem just right and he always does more than I expect. And what I mean by that is he either does just a bit more with no extra charge, and/or he gives me his honest opinion and let's me know about other potential issues. For example, I went to him about a major tuneup. Price was right. When I came back to my car, he also cleaned my engine! Great job! My only criticism is that he is hard to understand sometimes. When you're car's in trouble and have no mechanic to trust, Auto Star (formally called Honda Star) is the place to go. I've been going back to Harry, the guy who owns the place for over 4 years when I was situated in Diamond Bar. He has reasonable prices for oil change + filter for $20 amongst other things. This is not a bad price during this economy and I believe he uses the high end stuff. He's really passing on the savings to his loyal customers. Harry carries Honda & Acura OEM parts since the business was called Honda Star before. He offers very competitive prices for labor and material cost depending on what needs to be fixed. Last week, my Acura RSX was rattling and I took it in. He was very honest about what needs to be repaired for a good price. I had to replace my two rear brakes for $95 including labor which isn't that bad for Honda original parts. It's too bad that his shop is all the way in Walnut when I'm currently residing in Pasadena. But for any major work that needs to be done for a good price, the 25 mile drive is definitely worth it. I don't think he does European cars but it's worthy to call ahead. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. So I went here with my father to get my brakes fixed and the owner seemed kind and helpful. My brakes seemed fixed but after a week or two the same problem occurred and the brakes were not fixed. I brought my car in to ask him to just take a look at it. His wife made me wait about five minutes as she talked to her friend on the phone. Then he came in and when I asked him about it he laughed and said I am a kid and do not know what I am talking about. He then started lecturing me how I do not know anything because I am so young and foolish. He said he would not fix it and maybe I should bring my dad back because only adults know what to do. He then gave me back my keys and told me to go home. To make matters worse, as I was walking out, he went outside as well and started to make fun of me with other customers sitting outside his shop as I got in my car...what kind of person even does that? So in short, I have never met a place with such terrible customer service. I was ripped off and this guy deserves no stars. I would much rather go pay a little bit more somewhere else then to be lectured and laughed at. He assumed because I looked young ,he could treat me like a high schooler or something. I will definitely never go here again. UPDATE: My mother tried to go to his store to solve the problem and he was rude with her as well. He told her to leave the store because she doesn't know anything and that I was the one who refused to have my car looked at....REALLY? Why would I refuse to have my car looked at? She tried to get his business card to file a complaint and he refused to let her have one by pushing it away from her and kicked her out of the store and even threatened to call the cops. IN SHORT: Yes, I thought Harry was a kind guy when I had my car fixed. BUT if you ever have one slight problem with your car, you will see his true side. It was registered under a different name (honda star) that had its business license REVOKED due to bad business, this was not due to a copyright law from honda as previous stated by another yelper. same workers, same owners, same old antics as before! wait until something goes wrong to your car after they service it then you will realize how evil these people really are. i went to this place to have some service done to my car. harry jacked my car up and placed the jack at the wrong place. the jack slipped out and my car collapsed on it resulting in the front end of my car hitting the floor. my front bumper took most of the impact, misaligning it and completely tearing the front spoiler off (see yelp pic). harry was apologetic at first telling me he had a bodyshop that would take care of the damage. still humble about the situation i asked harry to just give me his insurance information because i had a shop i prefered to take it to. this is when it just turned out weird! harry then claimed he didn't damage my car! he said it was like that all along! then his wife, son, and coworker came out and just fueled his daranged manor. how unprofessional of this guy to do such a thing. turns out all the neighboring shops had complaints about him because of the way he treated other customers. i had to phone the sheriff and file a claim in court to make this wrong a right. save yourself the hassle and just avoid this place. do your research and you will find out this place was opened under the name of honda star by harry. the business license was revoked due to several claims of unethical business conduct. it was then re-opened as auto star under a different name, harry's wife. read more

I've heard some good things about this place, and my family comes here all the time. The reason I give it a three star rating is because of my personal experience when I took my car to get an oil change. I prefer to do my own oil changes, but the price of a regular oil change here is amazing! ...but now I see why: have you ever looked at what kind of oil they put into your car? The oil they use isn't by a brand that is normally sold in America, in fact I don't believe they even have english letters on the 5 quart jug at all. Some kind of imported engine oil that i'm guessing is cheaper to buy. I'm not saying the oil is inferrior, I'm just saying I've never heard of/seen it before. Also, the guy who was changing my oil was not Harry. Harry was nice and seemed very knowledgable. The tech they had doing my oil change was not the smartest guy in the world. I am very OCD about my tire pressure. I always keep it 37 in the front/ 35 in the rear. The guy doing my oil change pulled out an air compressor while waiting for my oil to drain (I guess he wanted to impress me since I was watching him), then he began filling my tires with air. If he looked at me, he would have seen eyes widen in shock. The guy didn't even check my tire pressure but he fills the tires with an additional 20psi anyway. I figured I better not cuss a guy out when he's working on my car. When the oil change was done, I checked the psi on my tires. None of them were even, and tires were overinflated. I believe i had my psi in the high 50s on the driver side and in the high 40s on the passenger side of the vehicle. I also discovered I was missing my windshield wiper fluid cap when I popped the hood. I've heard that the guy who worked on my car doesn't work there anymore, but if you see a dark and thick lipped round asian man working on the cars at Honda Star... run. I would like to try getting an oil change here again if Harry does it for me, but I would reccommend you either bring your own oil or get the synthetic. read more
