Talk about a shop with ethics and honesty. I brought my Volvo in to John and Antonio for the first time ever to get an oil change done. Since I already had the car there I told them it was making a noise which I feared could be the turbo. After a keeping the car and few hours of diagnostic all signs pointed to an expensive turbo replacement. Antonio put his expertise to work and after even more diagnostics he determined it was actually just a gasket on my turbo and not the entire part! They called me up with the great news and worked hard at making things normal again. These are the situations that set shops apart and when you earn a customer for life. Not because it was a cheaper repair than what they originally quoted me for, but because they were honest about it and only sold me what I truly needed. My son's 2004 Subaru WRX recently went on the blink -- threw a check engine light, speedo quit working, and ECU flipped to limp home mode. After checking out the reviews on Yelp, Auto Tech seemed like the best choice. Long story short, it definitely was. I was impressed from the first minute I walked into the Auto Tech office -- very clean and well organized. I was also impressed to see several cool old vintage cars in the repair bays (old 230SL, Opel Kadett, etc.). The car's problem was diagnosed quickly (bum speed sensor and a couple wires broken in the wiring harness to the speed sensor). Instead of of waiting a week to get a wiring harness from the East Coast, they actually rebuilt it themselves, which was GREAT. I added an oil change, brake fluid flush, and coolant flush to the project list and the guys took care of all that quickly. I love this shop -- totally honest owners and repair team that really knows their stuff, and the prices are super reasonable for the high quality you get in return. Definitely my new go-to for auto repair. read more

We were referred to Auto Tech over 5 yrs. ago after being told by The Honda dealer we needed new breaks I decided to have them done there for a better price In checking them the guys at Auto Tech said out I didn't need them. Since then we have used them for our Honda and Lexus and have been more than pleased. When my air conditioning went out they checked it out and found it was a little relay sensor, no big deal. So many times they could have taken advantage but didn't. Tom and John give their honest opinion and usually end up saving us money and when I need to fit my car in immediately they make every effort to do so. Tom was amazing. I live in LA and was looking to buy a used car down in El Cajon. Tom recommended just asking the dealer to drop it off and he would do an inspection and send me the report so I wouldn't have to spend time driving down to San Diego if the inspection turned out poor. He even offered to walk over to the dealer (it was nearby) and pick it up himself! Tom knows his cars (especially Hondas) and told me exactly what things he would look for, especially for a used car with high mileage. That gave me a lot of confidence in him and I felt assured I could make the purchase knowing exactly what the condition of the car would be (because you can't really trust most dealers to give you an accurate picture). As soon as he was done inspecting the car, Tom called me, gave me a rundown of the inspection, took the time to go over costs for the work that needed to be done, and then texted me the inspection report. I can't speak for repairs, but I imagine these guys know what they're doing. Take your car here for whatever your needs are--they are honest and will tell you exactly what's wrong. Excellent service at very reasonable prices for Euro auto repair. I have always taken my BMW 335i to the dealer for service under warranty. Now that my vehicle is out of warranty and at the 125k mileage mark, I needed a reliable alternative for regular maintenance, as well as finding a mechanic that I can trust with experience and troubleshooting a difficult Euro car. I was recommended Auto Tech from a friend and I couldn't be happier. Finding a good mechanic is difficult, so this is a huge relief. After another electrical failure, I had my roommate check my electrical system. It was discovered that the shop who replaced my alternator (not this one) didn't tighten the bolt connecting the electrical cable to the alternator (which caused the blown fuse that I got replaced here.) Tightening it immediately resolved the issue. I am only taking off one because the initial issue wasn't caused by this shop, but it seems like this problem (the loose bolt) could have easily been discovered if the vehicle was checked more thoroughly. read more

My much beloved car needed work. Unfortunately , much more work than expected. They know me well, so could have easily talked me into multiple repairs over time. This place is wonderful! After a quick Google search between this place and another located in El Cajon I called them both up. The service I got from the start was just what I needed. Instead of attitude (like I received at the other place) when I asked questions about price and what could be wrong I got very polite and comprehensive answers. I brought my car in the next day. There were several things wrong with my car relating to the A/C and something with the fuel monitor. They told me exactly what was wrong and didn't pressure me into fixing the things I didn't need fixed ASAP. They gave me a lift to my work as well as picked me up at the end of the day. What I really like about this place is the follow up call after one week and I just received a thank you letter in the mail. So i phoned the shop prior to bringing my vehicle in to discuss the issues. Manny was patient with my specific questioning and was willing to provide thorough responses. Once i arrived, they (Manny & his father )offered a friendly and warm greeting and my vehicle was service within hrs. I don't live in El Cajon, but my clutch burned-out in the wee hours of 01 May as I was driving up a mountain highway, 15 miles east of Alpine. After talking with a AAA rep, it seemed that my best bet was Auto Tech (AAA approved and near a place from which I could rent a vehicle). Tom and John were pleasant guys (setting aside the intrinsic unpleasantness of car trouble), and my problem was handled expeditiously (which is why you see me writing this review in the after-noon of the next day). They didn't push options that were not strictly necessary, though they made a point of clearly noting them. For further car work, I would now definitely consider making the trip from uptown San Diego (where I live) to El Cajon; albeit that there is also a mechanic in North Park who has my confidence. BTW, while this place is noted for work on Volvos, I drive an older model Honda. read more

Took our Jeep for AC servicing a few weeks ago. We didn't know if the problem was the compressor or just low on the coolant. Turns out it was just low on coolant. Auto Tech are very honest people they could have made the repairs much worse that it really was. If I need any repairs to any of our cars in the future, I plan to use Auto Tech!! read more

The interior drivers side door latch on my Tundra died. I went to their shop and they looked at it. Ordered the part and installed it the next day while I waited. Charged me what they said they would. Works great. I also had them price out replacing my front break rotors and a new timing belt. Very fair price, they will do those repairs next month.
