Wow, it isn't easy to find a honest mechanic, but when you drop your car off & list a few issues & ask about a tuneup, one does not expect to walk away paying just $170 for diagnostics & repair work & them saying a tuneup isn't needed since I just replaced the spark plugs & coils. It looks like I may have some more work for them pretty soon, but currently my ride is good to go!! Thanks to Buddy & Nate/Nathan for taking care of me as quickly as they did & explaining what the codes were & showing me the damaged part they replaced. This kind of customer service can be hard to find, maybe I just lucked out. Regardless, I'll be returning to them the next time the check engine light comes on or if my engine starts making funny noises. Really wish I found them a month ago, but better late than never! read more

When I saw that this place had five stars, I was skeptical. I mean, a mechanic that has five stars? That's kind of like a unicorn. But here I am giving them five more stars! The staff were really friendly and helpful when it came to my car. They had everything done way quicker than I expected as well. My battery and alternator were bad and I where I just saw a huge chunk of my savings going out the window. In August, my Mitsubishi Delica broke down in Richmond and up until last week, it was sitting in a shop there. The mechanics in Richmond were very incompetent and couldn't manage to fix my vehicle. A very nice independent European auto sales and service company, run by a great German expatriate who was trained in auto repair in Germany before his arrival in the US, and who has been successfully practicing his trade in Hampton for maybe 20 years. I first met Martin when he was still running his repair-only business out of his house, and at that time he concentrated exclusively on Mercedes Benz. Over the years the business has grown, and now is housed in a very nice showroom and repair facility on Pembroke Ave. He now has a a thriving resale business (primarily German cars), and continues in his repair business that now includes working on Mercedes and other German vehicles, as well as a few other higher-end European brands. As the business has grown, Martin has resisted handing over the day-to-day activities of the company to hired employees, especially in regards to his service and repair work. For the service customer, this means that a very competent technical set of eyes and hands will examine your vehicle, and help diagnose and repair the problem, no matter how small. Although I now live too far away from his shop to be a steady customer, it's been a real treat to watch this very talented and pleasant young man grow his business over the years. When my wife bought me a BMW 325i as a present, I was happy, but a part of me became sad. I knew that BMW repairs are expensive and we had had terrible luck in the past when dealing with import mechanics. Problem is that BMW has special diagnostic gear, so most mechanics can only do simple work on them. I had dealt with a few other import mechanics and they were horrible. I met a German Army Officer who told me about Autobahn and Martin (the owner). He recommended the place to me, I had nothing to lose, and here was a German who was recommending a mechanic to work on a BMW. I was sold. His shop is near Hampton University and it isn't much to look at. I had to make an appointment due to the amount of business they had. A man named Buddy works the desk and seems to run the place. Their prices are fair and they have fixed every weird gripe that I have had on my 325i. After dealing with overpriced import places, I would recommend Autobahn. I was also impressed with some of the used cars he had. For those guys that like supped up Volkswagens, he had a bunch of them, along with the Mercedes and BMWs in the lot. You just have to overlook and get past how the building and some of the interior looks. read more

I have a very long story to tell, so bear with me... My daughter and I were traveling to Virginia Beach from the Richmond area for a mini vacation. We had travelled approximately 100 miles to Hampton, and were just about one exit away from the Hampton tunnel when my car died. PANIC! I managed to get it started and crawl to the exit thankfully (stalling in the middle of the tunnel would have been a traffic nightmare, and I couldn't risk it), while my daughter used "Siri" to find a nearby repair shop. This led us to Autobahn. I explained our situation, and rather than turn us away, strand us for the night, or charge us a crazy amount to get us back up and running (which they very well could have), they immediately started working on a solution. Not only did they fix the problem, they squeezed us in, got us out quickly, AND gave us some cold water (it was a very hot day). You don't come across gentlemen like these very often! took my girlfriends 325ci here for a antifreeze leak,they went overboard and pressure tested the whole motor and found several items.they fixed the antifreeze leak with a new expansion tank,which is a bitch. they told me the other problems with the car that i will have fixed next month. the price for fixing the antifreeze leak in my opinon was really fair.i will be going back these are nice people,thanks guys. jack forrest read more
