By far the most honest mechanic shop I ever been to, extremely reasonable prices, friendly customer service but the catch is you can't setup appointments, it's first come first served and it's limited what they can & can't do such as no wheel alignments but I still highly recommend. read more

I honestly didn't realize that this service center was still in operation, and I've lived one block away for over seven years! (Apparently they used to be a gas station long before my time) I Googled car repair centers, and the results included Childress Service Center. My repair was very minor and they had me in and out in 15 minutes flat! The woman I spoke to on the phone prior to my visit was so friendly. When I spoke with her in person she explained that the repair center is a family business, and she is the fourth generation! I thought that was pretty cool, and I love supporting small, local businesses. If I ever need a more serious repair, I will likely use Childress because of the awesome customer service. (I did meet one gruff, unfriendly mechanic when I pulled in, but hey - as long as their work is solid‍) read more

We towed our Honda Pilot to Childress a few months ago after it broke down in C'ville. Said it needed new spark plugs. Never really idled well and cut off several times after. Took it back and they said nothing was showing as wrong. Broke down again in Richmond and towed it to a better shop in Virginia Beach who told us the wrong plugs were installed and charged us half the price. Childress didn't own the fact they put on the wrong part and refused a refund. Got a lot of ego. Called to replace a window and insulted my husband when he just needed a simple repair. They don't come to the door when you arrive. They have terrible customer service and they don't own their mistakes. Go somewhere else better and save money with people who do want your business. read more

I needed someplace that could do a state inspection quickly. Childress was recommended by a friend. I called the night before and a friendly service person let me know that state inspections were done on a first-come, first-serve basis and that it would be best to be there early. I arrived at 6:45 to find several others present, just as the gentleman said. The check-in process was simple and quick, yet friendly and personal. I was finished and out of there by 8 am, having met some very nice people as I waited. Don't look for a waiting room nor a lot of amenities, but expect great service! read more

I came early so that I could be the first in line for inspection. I was the 2nd person. They open at 7. I was out by 7:45. Fast service !!! And the guy took that huge orange police tow sticker off my car. Lol. read more

I started taking my vehicles here when I first arrived in Hampton in 1987. They are first rate mechanics and honest as the day is long. I have taken my vehicles in for inspection saying - "I think I am going to need brakes." When I came back I was told my brakes were fine. Lots of places would just do a brake job! read more

I have taken my car here before and it was okay. Unfortunately things have taken a turn for the worse here recently. They are either crooks or incompetent. I can tell you the older man is a complete jerk and thinks women know nothing about cars, I was treated like I was stupid and as if I was a child. So I took my car in and he said well your alternator is bad. I know it's not bad, as it was replaced two years ago by them and my issues my car was having isn't consistent with alternator failure at all. So I took it to two other places and both confirmed my alternator is working perfectly and the fix was exactly what I thought it was, an easy fix compared to a very expensive repair. Please stay away!! I would hate for anyone to be scammed by these people. read more

I have never been so disappointed by a business owner and drunk son and had so many different lies come from two people who have been doing the work on not just mine but my entire family has used them since the 80's and to just get to the point I'm terminally ill and have a Prostectic leg and require a wheelchair to. They failed my inspection because of discrimination point blank. I have the receipt with the price estimate and lots of other information that shows that the only thing I needed to do to pass inspection is to replace the front and rear brakes. When I said that I would have that done and after getting price quote from them, the one son I was dealing with left for vacation and gave my ticket to his father and brother who told me that they don't work on cars from people like me with long hair and tattoos and anyone who looks like you must have serious problems and I could go on and on with the awful remarks they made and they even had the nerve to surround me with the owner and his son and I believe that they were trying to intimidate me knowing that I have a Prostectic leg and foot and with as sick as I am there is no way to defend myself and all this because I didn't agree with the inspection since they said that there was such a bad leak around the bearing in the rear that the brakes needed replacing as well as the front which I had already told him but the main issue is that he said to legally pass inspection that the brakes front and rear need replacing and that is all that is marked on the inspection sheet and here's my issue, I told him that I would clean up any fluid which I still have found none and I even took pictures of where I park everyday for 13 years and not one spot of anything on the ground, but this is when I got upset, three different people claimed to have done the inspection, they refused to show me the leak or so called problem, and they were all set to do the work and gave price quotes and the owner and etc basically said that even though by LAW the only thing that I needed to do to pass inspection is replace the brakes but he didn't feel like passing it even though the LAW says that it will pass after brakes are replaced that he would still fail me. When I tried to explain that the way he feels has nothing to do with the LAW and if I am doing what is required by LAW to get my inspection to pass he just can't fall me just because he feels like it. Sorry for the rant and length but I have never been treated as bad and judged by the way I look in my 41 years and I will be reporting to the ADA and BBB since the discrimination was ridiculous and I have two witnesses that were other customers waiting who heard all this but it's hard enough being terminally ill and stuck in a wheelchair and it's a very hard thing for me to get out of the house and get things done then to be lied to and treated unfairly but my biggest issue is that they were trying to intimidate me since I am bairly standing with a cane and I could tell that they were trying and even as I am walking to my car one of them steps out the side door and flentchs at me and said I should have known that anyone who looks like you and I can only imagine how you lost your leg and got sick, f$&king long hair druggie and I knew right when I saw you dropping off your car that i shouldn't work on someone who looks like yous car. Idk what else to say but I am still in shock and so are everyone who I've told and I am just getting started and after all the threats from them I hope they remember that phones nowadays can record and I can't wait to shair on my podcast later and then again when I get ahold of wavy 10, who did a story on my disability a few years ago and I am sure that between them and mr Spencer, I hope they will at least rethink their actions and I guess I'll just have to pay another $16 since even if I fix everything according to the LAW they will still fail it. Thxs for reminding me of how far behind and out of touch so many people are still in this area. Can you see this large amount of fluid that was leaking so bad that it ruined the back breaks and has been leaking for a long time due to amount of fluid? I have parked in same spot for over ten years and I have never seen any fluid dripping from the back or front of the car. I just can't believe a 50 year old business would be so racist tords someone who wasn't a NASCAR fan lol and after giving them mine and my mom's husband and the rest of the families business to be treated so bad that it was the worst thing that has happened to me since I became a amputee and wheelchair being needed by people trying to use the fact I am vulnerable to get their way no matter if they are wrong or right. Very disappointed that I had to write this and I wish I didn't have to but you can't treat people with disabilities like that and hope to get away with it read more

This family run business has been around for over 50 years. Must be doing something right.. I need something done with vehicle, I go here first. If it is something they can't handle, they will send me to the right person who can take care of my needs. Great place. However there is one small problem. My daughter was stranded in Hampton (3 hours away from me) and I was frantically trying to figure out how to help. I searched yelp and found Childress Service Center - and I'm so glad I did. I called and spoke with Lonnie, who said she could have the car towed right there and they would take care of her. Take care of her they did - we were going to drive down and rescue her, but the staff of Childress identified the problem and had her back on the road within a couple of hours. Dropped my car off at 730 am for inspection, was told rudely it won't be done until around noon. They called around 930 and told me it was done. They replaced my two tail lights to the amber colored one for me to pass inspection, charged me $8 per light bulb and $26 in labor, plus the $16 for the inspection. I never asked them to change the lights, they did this upon their own doing and charged me for it. When I left the shop, one of my blinkers was not working, got home to check it and the bulb was cracked when it was taken out of my tail light. read more
