Back in the 1980s, when I was a student at North Texas State University, here in Denton, Texas, I brought my Orange Porsche 914, which I had bought from an old school newspaper advertisement in the Dallas Morning News. At this time, the shop foreman was a very kind man named Danny Starnes, and he wrote a estimate for a frontal bumper and collision repair, and I had the eventual work dent repair done by technicians employed by the Autobody Brand and was pleasantly surprised by the superior end result. Now I am thirty five years older and still have a great future ahead, but I have a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan that has a nasty dent on the sliding entry door and I would eventually like to have repaired and color matched up as close as possible. I had a life changing brush with a deadly virus called Meningoccocemia, and instantly became a deaf quadrilateral amputee halfway around the world, in Christchurch, New Zealand, where I was an Organizational Behavior and Management Lecturer, teaching university undergraduate students in Commerce. Cross-posted on Google Reviews too. I've had two of my cars painted by Carstars. They are GREAT! September 2023 (2nd review) Carstars does it again! Special thanks to Matt and TJ (I learned the name of the painter) for repairing and repainting my new-to--me BMW 330i ZHP just right! Not two days after I bought this beauty from a friend, some low-life POS here in Denton keyed it. But since I needed a front bumper repaint and a dent fix on another door, it just got done all at the same time. Just like my front end repaint of my 1998 4Runner (below), Mat was willing to work with me on lowering my out of pocket cost as much as possible by allowing me to remove body parts to allow me to save on labor and reinstallation costs that the shop would charge. This actually allowed me to remove the black door and front bumper protection parts (black strips) and recondition them with a graphene-type black coating. Just like last time, Mats and crew did a solid job. I opted not to blend the rear passenger door panel to save a grand or so and they still did an excellent paint match! The key scratches along the passenger door are all gone as is the dent that the previous owner's wife put in it. Also, I had Mats and team paint the front bumper as it was faded pretty bad, and lastly there were a bunch of white door dings caused again by the PO's wife. Oh, the shop also does mechanic work. They fixed the rear passenger door's window regulator and now the window works as it should. The car looks AMAZING. She'll be a garage queen for sure for now and I have a bunch of little things I need to do to get it perfect. But again, the paint job is fantastic, the service was great, and the communications by all parties kept me informed and happy. Thanks again for the second time in a year, Carstars! ****** PREVIOUS REVIEW **** I had a great experience w/ the team at Denton Carstar and special thanks to Mats, who clearly understood that I was wanting to save as much money as possible but still want a quality paint job at the end. My beloved 1998 4Runner (owned since 2000) spent most of its life in CA and has been one of the best vehicles I've owned and has taken me to far off places but has reliably performed on the day-to-day stuff that life threw at me. Needless to say though at 275K miles, I didn't want to break the bank getting it painted. I called about 7 different places and 5 of them never returned calls so I went to Carstars because it was close to my work place. Mats understood that I am a car guy and take pride in this vehicle. He allowed me to remove some exterior parts that I knew how to do to save on money, and I really appreciated that. From there, he and the crew there turned my vehicle over to me in about 8-9 days. The paint looks great! Oh, the prior paint job from an autobody place in CA had delaminated at the 10 year mark as they said it would, so this was a repaint. Anyways back to the paint job, I don't see a single flaw and I hope it lasts as long as they say it will. So far so good, no complaints. Highly recommend that you talk with Mats! DO NOT ‼ DO NOT use carstar for your auto body needs . To start off with they don't check to see what all needs to be done to your vehicle only the obvious seen . I had 3 x reworks on my vehicle. The accident happened in July it is now October that my vehicle got fixed , Instead of them letting you know what's going on YOU will have to call them & if ur car needs more time (which it will they will make sure to have a one day job take 3days ) YOU will have to make the call to ur insurance or rental company because apparently it's not their jobs . Oh also if u drop off your rental vehicle at the shop for them to return they will keep it for a week & not let the rental company know to pick up which will cause charges on ur account. The receptionist has a bad attitude & very careless . I will NEVER use this body shop again . Oh & u will have to call the insurance company over & over to see if carstar sent in the information needed to be sent & they will have to keep calling the car star body shop to do it & they won't so you will have to call over & over again . read more

After getting into an accident my insurance recommended carstar autobody of denton to repair my fender, rocker quarter panel and lower doors + wheels on right side of car. The initial customer service was good and wow the job was done in three days, and repair was okay. After the first storm hit of the year my car filled with water from gaps in the front right door. I took it back and asked for the door and fender to be re-hung on the car, the technician told me it was the seal. even more water entered my car and damaged it. This is now 2 months after the repair. My quarter panel starts rusting in repair area( my car is a 2013, southern california/texas car) large cracks are appearing around the repair areas, bloating and pitting. When i return the car for service i get two different answers considering my warranty, one lifetime and one just for a year. They repair the car but only "this part of the quarter because thats the only part thats my fault" - words of the specific technician, and i go to sit in my car and drive it away, the car wont start, the ignition is broken. After i watch multiple employees do things like leverage screwdrivers against my keys/steering wheel, my key snaps in half. YES, my metal key snaps in half. My car sits in their lot for two weeks gaining water damage while i try to figure out with insurance and them whats going on, they refuse to pay for anything, insurance took care of me in the end after a long terrible experience. the dealer charged 1018$ to replace the ignition after carstar quoted me in the range of 1400$. never have I had this bad of an experience. Oh also I've now removed the fender and doors myself and fixed them into the correct position. The watrer stopped entering the car. read more

they work magic! i came in out of nowhere with no notice and they were able to take me in and order my parts the same day, Parts got there really quick within 4 days but i went right before a weekend which on the week would be faster. After dropping my car it only took a couple days to get fixed. I was in a time bomb to get that fixed and had limited time and they made it work and did everything within a week and a half without counting the fact i took it right before the weekend. Car was left amazing looks brand new and they always responded the phone. I have a mercedes and i had 5 dealerships turn me down before them because of the car that it is and how complicated fixing anything from that type of car can be, and they did it, and looks better than ever. Don't have a new picture of the car fixed but looks like i just bought all brand new again. The price wasn't even close to what they would have charged me at the Mercedes dealership. read more

Absolutely horrible! Drips, sags, runs, overspray you name it. We had been taking our vehicles for years to Autobody of Denton. But ever since their association with Carstar the quality has taken a serious nosedive. Had our front bumper painted. Not only did they try and get away with only doing half, there was a huge run in the paint. I pointed it out and the owner said he would fix it. Well, the run was only partially fixed, and they didn't bother to fill in the nicks that were throughout the rest of the bumper. I was willing to write this off as an anomaly since all previous work had been really good. Took my other car there for fixing the A pillar, windshield and passenger window. The quality of the aftermarket windshield was awful. All kinds of distortion and the installer put a couple of chips in it during the install. They also neglected to re install new tint on the new passenger window. Plus, there was all kinds of overspray on the inner door hinge area. I sent the owner a detailed email about all of this and never received a response. They obviously don't give a damn about their long time customers anymore. read more

I avoid being negative or manifesting negativity at all costs! I think our experience here was an example of the balance of life. There's good, and then there's not so good. Our experience was not so good We understand the back order situation on car parts and that part just is what it is. However, each time I'd call for an update they sounded overwhelmed and too busy to give full attention and even genuine kindness. They always sound annoyed and frustrated. I was disappointed in myself by taking in personally at times. Upon reflection I see it's due to staff being overwhelmed and not having answers for clients, therefor they couldn't attend to us properly. Ever! Our car was in the shop for over a month for a small fender bender. EACH time I called they said they'd call me back and I never (not once) received ONE call back. That's how busy they are. I ended up calling so often I felt like I was investigating them! I will never do business here again, and I will also never recommend this place to anyone! read more

Hit or a big swing and a miss with this place. You might experience zero communication from them and a HUGE delay of services. They may or may not clean up their messes which might cause further mechanical complications and an even longer delay. These guys were great! Easiest transaction possible. Let me know when they could get it all taken care of the best way to suit my schedule, so I could have my truck back in a day. When I came back to pick up my truck, they had cleaned the whole truck, including my messy interior, which was incredibly nice. I keep a lot of parts and tools in there, and it's usually pretty cluttered. Was not expecting such a gesture, but it was definitely, absolutely appreciated. Got referred to the shop and took my Mustang in for a complete, show quality repaint. After countless times of telling them it doesn't look right and there are obvious issues that need to be fixed, 2.5 years later the car still has issues. I spent $5200 and also had my wheels re powder coated, which were sent out to another shop for this and came back looking good. The paint job cost about $4500. I was constantly pushed back behind other customers, lied to by the shop owner Mark, lied to by a new shop manager- Dustin and told the car was fixed and looked good. I drove 30+ miles each way to go pick it up, over half a dozen times only to find out that the car still had issues. Multiple painters worked on my car, including a Jr lvl painter, to finish a show quality repaint. After over 2.5 years I got sick of the constant lies and being pushed back in line so I took it to another shop and had them fix the major issues that still remained. It took me just over $3300 to get the car fixed of the major issues. I called in to Carstar Autobody of Denton and told the front desk rep that I was taking it to another shop since it still had obvious issues. I go back to get repaid by Carstar Autobody of Denton, and the owner- Mark. He refuses to pay me back for the issues his shop caused and even accused me of not paying for repairs to one of my Yukons I took to him while my car was in his shop (I've got the conversation recorded, of his accusations and him yelling/getting heated with me)... which I did to help him recover some of his cost from working on my car that he could not fix. I even told him during our conversation that did let him do some more work on both my Yukons to recover some of the $3300 cost. He said he'd get back tor me, never did of course, since he is afraid of confrontation. Gave him 2-3 weeks to pay me back, never did. Instead told 2 diff employees to tell me he would trade my Yukon work, less than $1000 of work for the ~$3300 I spent. First off, that's rediculous, secondly, I already told him id let him work on them if he paid me back so that doesn't make sense. He tried to screw me over once again. Filing a small claims suit against Carstar Autobody of Denton and the owner Mark for the original cost of the paint job, $4500 and the additional $3300 it cost for me to have the major/obvious issues fixed. I'll have former employees, other witnesses, pictures of the issues, and the new body shop owner in court. read more

Everyone here is very nice and really goes out of their way for you. I've had more than one good experience here over the course of many years. (Luckily, not too many experiences!) They make a lot of effort to find after-market parts when the originals are too pricey. Hopefully I won't need to be back for a long time, but if I do have autobody issues, this is always the first place I go. read more

They failed to return my calls and after requesting I send them my VIN and email I get a text saying the don't want to spray my bumper. That's some shady behavior and I hope they are not stupid enough to do something illegal with my VIN like file false lien. Took two days to find out several call and texts. Waste of time. I think they just want to cherry pick work for high prices. Don't know what they are up to but why bother there are many more paint shops without weirdness. read more

This was the 4th auto body shop that I have visited this week to request an estimate for the bizarre flaking paint on my car. They were quick to greet me and go out into the heat to see what was going on. The estimator was the first person that I have met with to recommended that I take my 2011 car back to the dealer, as this should be covered under warranty because this was a manufacturer defect. She explained OEM and warranty process they should go through and merrily sent me on my way. I couldn't believe it! The 3 other body shops went straight for my wallet. Autobody wanted to be sure it was done right and offered me several options, while educating me on matter too. Later that evening, I even received a follow up call from the estimator. She wanted to be sure everything went well with the dealership. Thank you so much for the treating me like a person and not an easy sell because I was a woman trying to fix my car. I am so glad I impulsively turned into this auto repair shop instead of continued driving to the wishy-washy one I had made an appointment for! All I needed was a new bulb on my passenger-side headlight of my Jetta. Warm, friendly front office and service! They replaced my bulb on the spot, no appointment necessary, and I was in and out in about 5 minutes, 10 tops. Mind you, I'm a 24 year-old female college student who knows NOTHING about cars, but they were not the least bit condescending nor did they try to take advantage of me by charging an arm and a leg. It was extremely refreshing and I'm so thankful for their kindness and efficiency! Someone ran into a car which hit my parked Excursion. Bummer, I know. However, I had a great experience with CARSTAR in Denton. They were very timely in responding to my inquiry, kept me up to date, and had the car ready when they said they would. It was easy to coordinate the rental car pickup with Enterprise. I have never been so dissatisfied in the quality of workmanship as I was with this company. We dropped of our 2006 Mustang GT with left fender damaged and cracked paint on the bumper. We also paid to have the front bumper repainted. Went to pick up the car and the bumper was not aligned, the body panels were attached with 3M tape that was falling off, the front bumper was only resprayed (showing every rock chip still), both bumper covers were overly tightened and the mounting brackets were pushing through the cover causing the brand new paint to spider web, the rear bumper diffuser was damaged and now severely spotted from something damaging the black paint and the side rocker had massive scratches in it from not being taken care of while it was off the car. We returned with the car and Rick was very apologetic and told us they would get right on it. He made us feel they were going to make it right. We were wrong, 5 weeks and 3 days later, the rear bumper is still not aligned (I can put my pinkie in the gap, the body panels are now attached with liquid goo of some kind that is bubbling, the rear diffuser is worse (I am assuming it is the painters tape being left on for too long), there are additional screws drilled in from the underside of the diffuser (very visible screws that do not belong on the car), the front bumper was not looked at and they added a door ding. While pointing all of these things out to Rick (because the owner, Mark Riney passed us off to him) he proceeds to tell us that they can't align the bumper because it came to them with wood screws. First of all, this car was built by Heritage Customs and has the AJ Foyt Coyote body kit, so I find that VERY hard to believe, but let's say for kicks it did have wood screws in it... We paid them almost $2000, the least they could have done was picked up a phone to let us know, "Hey your car has wood screws in it, we might need to go to Ace Hardware and pick up some the right kind of screws so we can fix it like you paid us to do." Instead they chose to hope we didn't notice, or just didn't care. They agreed they caused the damage on the rear diffuser when we brought it back, but this time, well they just don't see how that could of happened. Don't take your chances on this shop! Not only did they not do what they were paid to do, they caused additional damage and the lack of professionalism and take responsibility attitude you should be able to expect from a company is the exact opposite. Came in today for an oil change cause I saw a sign for a $20 oil change. Came in and he takes it back and begins the processes. Came to me and let me know why my check engine light was on.. Which I've been trying to figure out since I get my car. Orileys and auto zone only told me it could be a list of like 20 things. Went threw and replaced the spark plugs and checked the coils. Nothin. But this guy at ace tech pin pointed the issue imidatley. I'm very impressed. I will defiantly be coming here from now on! read more

My car had a severe hail damage. The back windshield was broken and the interior was exposed to heavy rain for 20 min which damaged the headliner and sunroof wire connections. They after 10 weeks of holding my car in one of the worst body shops (Autobody of Denton) recommended by StateFarm. they delivered the car without fixing the headliner and sunroof. When I called and complained they said they are not directly damaged by the hail so StateFarm doesn't caver that. So they gave me the car with an open sunroof !!!!!!! The body shop also broke one of my sunvisors and didn't take responsibility for that..... read more
