I talked at length with Jeff about doing a rebuild of my older 911 Porsche. He sounded knowledgeable and promised a great job. It was going to be expensive but I was convinced. Well, time went on, and on, and on. Jeff kept promising but it was obvious he was not making any progress. After 6 weeks I removed the car and had it done at Valhalla in Lafayette. Autohaus recently changed ownership and there have been a lot of changes - for the better. I liked it before but I have to say, the updates have been a nice change. Xiao is definitely knowledgeable about cars and will often take a quick look at (i.e. brakes) and give honest opiions. If you don't need the work done, he'll tell you so. I really like talking with someone who knows the details about the potential problems. At the dealer, you deal with the service rep who doesn't ever tell you what could be wrong with the car. Then they call later with - yikes. With Xiao, you get an idea of what could be wrong before you leave the car and he really tries to get the work done asap. Highly recommended! read more

My car won't start and needed to be towed to the nearest autoshop which happened to be Autohaus Moraga. The tow driver called ahead and although this was around 11am on a Saturday morning (one hour before the posted closing time of 12PM), Xiao said to bring the car in so that he could take a look and see how he could help. Xiao quickly looked at the car and proceeded to explain what was the root cause. He could repair it but will need to have a part expedited to him. He provided me a quote which I thought was reasonable and indicated that it could be ready around 3PM that day. He asked if I would like to proceed with the repair. Well, I wasn't going anywhere without my car so I decided to have Xiao go ahead to order the part and fix the car. He was done by 2:30PM and he did not even add any overtime charge to the bill. He merely said that he was trying to help me out in my situation! I am thankful to have met Xiao. Xiao is genuine, trustworthy and he truly knows the in's and out's of cars! We've been coming here since we moved to Orinda for both our cars. Service here is outstanding! Xiao is especially knowledgeable and fair. He explains everything very well and is open and honest. Only downside is that I wish they were open on Saturdays. I had to actually go to another place near my office once because I couldn't go during the week. I brought my car here because my car was making a squeaking/rubbing noise that the dealership seemed like they weren't able to find or fix. after exhausting all their man power I brought it to Autohaus and they immediately pointed out that hard glue was used as a way to fix the noise(apparently that was what the dealership was told to do from corporate and that it was ok to do) on my front sway bar. Autohaus said the part was not that expensive so I went ahead and just replaced it with them and the noise was gone. read more

About a month ago, my 2000 Chevy Blazer wouldn't start when I was trying to leave work. I work in Moraga and it was after 5, so there were very few places still open for me to have my car towed to. I called around and Jeff at Autohaus told me to bring it in. Even though my car isn't German, Jeff agreed to look at it and do what he could to help me out. He very patiently answered my questions and helped calm me down when I was starting to panic. He was very reassuring and kind and went out of his way to stay open late to accomodate me. He even agreed to call my mechanic back home (I'm new to the area) and talk with him about the history of my car and what the problem was. As a young, single woman with very little support system in the area, it would have been very easy for someone in Jeff's position to take advantage of my lack of automotive knowledge and rip me off. Jeff was nothing but professional and honest. I also know that he worked hard to find the most inexpensive parts possible (he compared prices with my old mechanic). He kept my car for 2 days, fixed the fuel pump, and made a few other recommendations for service but never pressured me or tried to upsell. The owners of Autohaus Stuttgart really came through for me at a very scary moment and I greatly appreciate that. I would highly recommend them to anyone who has a German car - or, in a pinch, someone who doesn't. read more

After reading some of the reviews (all of which are at least 2 years old), I almost cancelled my appointment...but I decided to give them a fair chance, so I did....and I'm glad I did. I chose Autohaus because of their location and German car specialty. Also, I would rather support a small outfit, instead of a dealership or large chain, with large overhead. I worked with an older gentleman named Al. He gave me an initial estimate of 1 hour to check out the issue with my BMW, but said they would only charge for the actual time it took. True to their word, they only charged me for 1/2 hour for the diagnosis. For the repair work, he quoted me the cost of the part (valve cover gasket) and estimated labor cost. I felt it was reasonable and had them do the work. I was in no hurry to have the work done and brought my car back a few days later to get on their schedule. So I am happy that I found a local mechanic that I can trust to work on my BMW from now on and would only ask that others give them a try, then judge for yourself. Don't depend strictly on reviews, especially when they are several years old.... read more

When my son damaged his car for the second time in 3 months we decided to pay for the repairs privately. So happy I took my friend's recommendation and used Autohaus. They went way above and beyond and their quote was by far the most reasonable. The service was as great as the price and he even ordered an extra part for me that wasn't technically his responsibility but the did it to anyway. I can't recommend them enough. I had a battery for my 7 Series BMW replaced at Autohaus in November. Electrical issues persisted so I assumed it wasn't my new battery, but something else with the electrical system (which was still covered by BMW warranty). I took the car to Weatherford. After 4 days of testing and a $600 bill, they confirmed it was a defective battery, which they replaced. I returned the bad battery to Autohaus. They not only refunded the price of the battery but the cost of their labor. I did not expect that. That was great service and they deserve a shout out. read more

ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL SHOP. Owners lie and will tear your car apart and put it back together upside down!! -No joke and then they will try and get you to pay for all of their mistakes. My poor car has gone thorough hell and I am an idiot for returning. The mechanics as well as owners do not know cars. They charged me over $500 to replace some random part. When the problem happened again after they "fixed it" they quoted me another $250 to "take a look at it". I said no way and took it to my dealer where they told me the recall was huge (ended up being free through the dealership-and it was a $5 part, and that there is no way they should have replaced that expensive part. Mind you we have spent thousands of $ at that shop, trying to be thoughtful and support the local shops...They have shady, uneducated mechanics working there. DO NOT take your car there. I have taken my BMW here a few times, the service is good, and like any shop should do they give you what else is wrong with the car, i have not had an experience with the rudeness or not being treated fairly like others have, me being 18, i have not had the "payment plan" or "save up" speech, but thats me, as to how much it costs, it is pretty hefty, but i understand why, all the mechanics there are certified BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, VW, and Audi mechanics,and the hourly wage is right about at 120 an hr, but if you take your car to a dealership hourly wage can be upto about 190 an hr, Also I talked with one of the main guys, cant remember his name, but he is pretty tall white hair and a beard, anyway, i am fixing up at 1990 bmw 735, and i had brought it in there for a check up, and he gave me some advice on what to do, and i didnt find any of this offensive, so why i give it 4 starts instead of 5, price for repair, but like i said they use genuine dealership parts and mechanics are certified read more

We were on our way to Oregon and our power steering went out. Dropped off the car after 5:00pm. I explained that we were on vacation, and needed to get back on the road. They put us first on the repair list, had all of the details by 8:30am the next morning, and had the car finished around 11:00 the next morning. Everything works perfectly and we're back on the road. I have tried so many mechanics to take care of an intermittent problem and I ended up losing too much money over a YEAR trying to get it fixed. I called Xiao and he listened to me explain the situation and what I thought was wrong. He told me to bring it in the next morning (today) and I showed up a little before the shop actually opened (and it opens at 7 am!). When I got into the office, he had a paper with notes from our phone conversation. Proving to me he definitely WAS listening to me unlike so many others. I showed him what was happening with my vehicle and he said he could take care of it right away. I appreciate his clarity over the phone and in person before, during and after he worked on the vehicle. He was respectful and heeded my request to check and fix the wire that was causing my vehicle not to start. Whereas so many mechanics have BS'd me and told me they would have to do a diagnostic (aka charge a diagnostic fee) to verify that the problem I thought I had was indeed the problem I had. Most mechanics have tried to throw an electrical part in that I didn't actually need just to make a buck. I was even suggested to buy a new PCM by a few mechanics, which is a huge expense comparatively to what was done today. Xiao is NOT like the rest! He actually started working before he even was technically open for business. Above and beyond, truly! I was out of there in less than an hour, he charged me what he quoted which was much lower than what I thought I might have to pay. So thankful I used his services! And I'm glad he's back in business! I will be recommending him to my friends, hopefully I won't have to be back for any other repairs anytime soon!
