I really can't say enough good things about my experience at Svensson. I got into a fender bender and my hood was crumpled. We were treated very courteously from beginning to end and they went out of their way to help make the repair more affordable. It is nice to know that someone has your back. My wife's 2009 Honda Civic did not start so we had it towed to Svensson. Larry, the head managing mechanic, had a look at it immediately and determined that the starter motor seized up, so the car needed a new starter motor. While the car was up on the rack for the starter motor replacement the mechanic working on the car did a quick under chassis visual inspection. He noticed fluid dripping from both the rear wheels. On further examination by removing the wheel and brake cover it was obvious that brake fluid was leaking from the brake shoe system. Larry contacted me immediately and let us know of the additional problem with the car. When it comes to brakes and tires, we don't mess around because our lives could be at stake, so of course I approved the additional repairs which I could tell were at a reasonable cost. We are grateful for Svensson's excellent mechanics who thoroughly reviewed the car for any obvious additional problems. This assured me that not only would my wife's car start again but I would know that she would be able to stop safely with a repaired rear braking system. read more

I came here today to get my significant other's Saab air bag replaced. I had spoken to BJ a week and a half ago about getting the air bag in stock and he was super helpful. He called me on Friday that it was in and set an appointment for Tuesday at 1 PM. The car was done in under an hour and the mechanic also inspected the car as well which I really appreciated. If I ever see any issues with the Saab again I will bring it back! If you have never been here please do not go in the driveway like I did. I believed that the building only was for Svensson Automotive, but it's shared with another business. I unfortunately did not know and I think it made the person at the other business not too happy. It's hard to tell if you haven't been there, but there should be parking right in front of Svensson Automotive. You could also park on the street I assume and the mechanic will bring it over when it's time. read more

Why I wanted to bring in my 2006 Volkswagen and my 2004 Audi both needed a lot of service and work done pretty expensive and I was willing to pay no problem easy $10,000 parts and labor. Their loss. As soon as I call the shop to set up an appointment for both of the vehicles a very deep toned woman picked up the phone. No introduction know how are you know nothing just "what do you need" in the middle of telling her my issues she cuts me off and says "oh hold on the mechanic is coming and then tells me nevermind he's not I'll call you back in an hour" so I gave her my information and as expected and never received a call back. She was very very rude unhelpful and impatient with a lackluster attitude and not caring for customer service or her own demeanor. That was a clear sign to me that I will not be bringing my car's there , if I couldn't even receive a phone call back within an hour I can't imagine how long will it take to repair my cars and if they would even be done right not half ass. Very very disappointed for a Lafayette repair shop. Speaking of Lafayette repair shops, I went next door to the auto body and they were very friendly and had no problem dealing with me. read more

Very bad experience. I went there and they gave me an estimate before, telling me the repair will take maximum 2 hours. I left the shop after 5 hours, after 20 minutes driving back home the same issue came on again (check engine) , called the shop telling them the issue, they didn't want to fix the problem anymore, offering the refund. Worst experience, wasting 7 hours for nothing. Do not go there. There is a better and more reliable shop in Fremont. Foreign Fremont Auto Repair. They didn't start the job until I was ok with the estimate. No hidden costs, all original parts, highly trained mechanics. read more

I had a broken left headlight and some body damage. I also had a dislodged side mirror. JOHNNY SANCHEZ, did a fantastic job. I was not wanting to have the body be perfect because its a 2003 honda, and wanted save in terms of cost. I told JOHNNY all of this. He gave me an estimate and the car was done the the next buisness day. He had installed my side mirror for free. (I had bought this sperately online and he just threw that in as a kindness!) While I waited for my car to come back from the exellect carwash next door, (where they vaccummed the entire interior AND cleaned it perfectly after months of tree pollen and dust had collected on my poor oldie but goodie, -also a free nicety!), he introduced me to his son, his daugter, and their cousin, and the kids are so kind and welcoming. This place is a little hard to drive into the driveway right beside Ace Harware, so just take a little care when you arrive. However, after the stress of damaging my own car, worried about timing and expense, I couldn't have been any happier and would go OUT of my way for future services from Svensson Autobody under Johnny's services. The family vibe and flexibility of his willingness to provide more than exellent service really meant a lot to my husband and I. For fear of misleading readers I unfortunately need to update my previous glowing review of Svenssons Automotive. Larry is still a very nice guy, but something is wrong at this shop. I have had to return to Svenssons about 5 times for some reoccurring radiator and coolant issues. I stress "reoccurring" because it was obvious that they had not tested their shoddy repair work when on one occasion something loose was rattling around under my hood about ten miles from leaving the shop. Another occassion the car overheated 5 mintes after I had paid and drove away from the shop (I was told coolant had a bubble in it). They had not done a simple drive test on either occassion, if they had they would have flushed out both of these issues. This week my radiator hose busted off in traffic in the left lane of I80 approaching the bay bridge. Things could have been disastrous with this incident. Fortunately I found a nearby mechanic who diagnosed my simple problem and repaired my car. This mechanic told me almost all connections and clamps under my hood needed major tightening. Why Svenssons couldn't make this simple diagnosis and why everything was loose where Svenssons worked, I don't know. Svenssons has left me stranded and in danger all over the Bay area, from Grizzly Peak to the Bay Bridge. The car has been repaired and is in good working order, thanks to a new mechanic. read more

This review is specifically for the body shop. With 3 teenagers and a wife, I have had to have a few fender-benders repaired on at least 4 different occasions! Johnny Sanchez runs the body shop and is great to work with. If you are not passing repairs through your insurance, he will do whatever he can to keep the cost down, subject to your approval, including use of aftermarket parts, salvage parts, etc. I have always been very happy with the results, and the savings over other body shops in the area have been between 25% and 75%. read more

Stop searching for a quality mechanic because Svensson Automotive is what you are looking for. I brought my Saab 9-3 in for a loss of power problem that had troubled other mechanics. Larry diagnosed the problem and had the car up and running in a few days. The cost was less than I was expecting and my car has run great since......until I made the mistake of taking it into a Jiffy Lube in Castro Valley, when after leaving, some mild symptoms returned. I knew who to call. Larry at Svensson got me in quickly and that Friday I drove up to Lafayette. He found the problem, a damaged vacuum tube (by the technician at Jiffy Lube). He was able to use glue to repair it and only charged me a small labor fee. My Saab is running great! After I was rear-ended on Hwy 24 I asked my mechanic in Orinda where to have the body work done to restore my Lexus SUV to its like-new appearance. I was told that Johnny Sanchez at Svensson Auto Body was the best. He is! Johnny and his team were great from beginning to end. He gave me an estimate right away and helped me with my insurance company (it was a hit and run so it was treated like a collision claim). He explained exactly what needed to be done, looked at the car with me, and answered my questions. I asked about replacing my windshield at the same time (outside of my insurance) and he arranged that too at a very good price. The process was painless--I was scheduled within a few days, given a ride home, and updated during the few days he had my car. My Lexus came home looking better than ever! Johnny does high quality work at very reasonable prices and on top of that you couldn't ask for a nicer guy to deal with. He's friendly, professional, answers his phone, and goes above and beyond for his clients. Not too long after the Lexus repair, I caused some very minor damage to a parked car on my street.
