David and crew are awesome. My family and I were traveling back home to Sparks, NV from a family vacation at the coast. Our VW started leaking oil outside Sacramento. We stopped at a Les Swab, who directed us to the Automan. David moved us up to the top to check it out. Since it was late in the day, he could get the part till the next day. He personally drove us to get a rental car so we could get back home. The next day he had the part in and road tested it, only to find it was also leaking from somewhere else. I have nothing but good things to say about Dave and Automan. Dave was able to accurately diagnose an issue I was having with my M3, fixed it, and perform other needed maintenance at a good price. I will be bringing my M3 to Automan from now on for all servicing needs. A DIFFERENT shop specializing in European cars, misdiagnosed the issue with my car and performed work that didn't resolve the issue. I bought a Catalytic converter for Automan to fix, He told me price will be $157 or less in the receipt he gave me is a description of labor replace Catalytic Converter supplied by customer wish I signed he calls me maybe about an hour later telling me I got the wrong catalytic converter from whoever I got it from and the Catalytic converter I got was for the rear not the front and he already did the labor for taking off my converter and having to put it back on because the one I brought was not the correct one for my car. Told me he's going to charge me $100 I said for what I said you didn't do anything but take my old one off and put the old one back on he said he still did labor I said what we agreed on and when I sign on the receipt says to replace the converter being the fact that you did not replace it because it wasn't the correct one I should not be getting charged, Not only that you did not need to take all of my front converter off just realized the one I got was only the rear. I had to call 911 because he refused to give him my car back unless I paid he try to bargain with me three times for different prices which I ignored until the sheriff came they try to talk him down which they cannot force him to do anything because it's a civil dispute they were only their to mediate and make sure it did not get worst. The sheriffs all agreed what he was doing was wrong even with the proof I provided them and suggested I take him to small claims court and I was forced to pay just to get the keys back to my car. read more

So I went in to have my radiator switched out today. He did a diagnostic and then told me fix it it would be $277. He went ahead and did the work and then told me the total was over $500. I said he told me it was $277 but he claimed that I didn't hear him right. I heard him clearly because the total for the parts was $277. He didn't even mention how much labor would be. Why would he give me a price for parts only when the total of the job is parts and labor. He was supposed to do an oil change but didn't do it. Was supposed to check the noise in the front end and didn't do it. When I asked about it he claimed I never told him about it. So why was it WRITTEN ON THE WORK ORDER?? Dave's new shop looks nice! So I'm back here because my 06 Civic is finally showing signs of being old and I trust Dave's work... it is a plus too that his prices are the best I've found in Sacramento and the Elk Grove area. My Civic just notched 206k and I knew issues would eventually happen... and they did. The car started jerking during acceleration and felt it was not safe to drive. I dropped by Automan and Dave was able to take my car. He gets back to me some hours later and tells me the issues he found: dirty EGR valves and 2 bad ignition coils. Because of the misfiring, he recommended replacing the sparkplugs too. I agreed. Since he had to order the OEM parts, he told me he had to keep the car overnight. The next day, he calls me in the afternoon and tells me the car is ready and running just fine. I've put over 600 miles since the repair and the Civic is running strong. read more

Do not take your car here. This place is a joke and will nickel and dime you for all its worth. They won't admit fault. Took my car there twice and they charged me twice. They won't look at everything. Very unreliable. The guy will act as if he knows what he is talking about to swindle you, then charge you over and over again. And their work is very bad. Two months later and the problem came back. I had to finally take my car to the dealer. All fixed. No issues. This guy is a swindler. Watch out. So just took my car to the dealer. I dropped my car off on 7/1/18 to be worked on because it would not start. I gave the owner Dave the parts that needed to be replaced to get the car up and running again which was an ignition switch and brake switch(per Dave the owner). He said that he tried replacing both parts but it did not work so in order for him to keep diagnosing the problem I would need to pay another $350. By 7/11/18 he still had made no progress with my car so I sent a tow truck to pick it up so I could take to another mechanic. Upon picking my car up there was a big dent in my trunk that he fails to acknowledge. He charged me $180 to get my car and had done no work on it. I took my car to the new mechanic and he used the same parts Dave had and had my car running in 24 hours. Dave(automan) charged me for nothing and he even damaged my Audi. read more

My brother, both of my parents and myself have been coming to auto man for years and every time we come in he gives us the real deal and never makes us feel like he is trying to take our money or give us any b.s. BEING A WOMAN going to the mechanic or any place that deals with cars can be difficult but going to auto man has been great. I brought my car to another place in elk Grove and for awhile they were good but they got up set that what "they fixed" was under warranty and didn't replacey spark plugs but said they did. When I brought it to auto man he told me the real deal and told me that I had missing pieces and other hoses weren't connected to the right thing and that is why my car was turning off when in drive. After I picked my car up he has been calling to check in with me to see how my car is doing ! :) Great service! read more

I have used Dave for decades now, it seems he either has delegated too much work to other mechanics or he is aging! He seems to forget work he performs,two weeks to a month ago. You have to show him your receipt/work order to recall things. Every repair takes days, he checks the car out then if you need parts depending on the part you will wait another couple days.
