I love this place. I don't think I will ever go anywhere else ever again. Pat was the nicest man ever, my 3-year-old daughter liked him so much she wanted "to live there forever". He ran a diagnostic check, told me exactly what was wrong (which he said was really probably a false reading). Then he erased the code and said to come back in if the light came back on. No charge at all. I feel very strongly that had I gone to a "bigger" shop, I'd have been taken advantage of, and probably charged for something that wasn't necessary. I was needing work urgently on my brakes and saw the 5Star reviews at this shop. I arrived without an appointment and asked, Pat, the owner, if there was any chance he could squeeze me in? And he did!!!! Pat, a very pleasant, professional and most importantly HONEST hardworking man! Maybe it had to do with his upbringing from "Papz" aka his Veteran (Marine) dad, whom I had the pleasure of meeting. Well, he got working on my car immediately. He was upfront with costs (which are more than fair) and estimated working hrs on car. The shop was very well maintained, quant with no foul carpet smells or gas fumes. I get a strong sense he and Papz have their heart and soul into this. I feel very fortunate enough to find a mechanic of such caliber. It's shops and people like Pat that keep reminding me there are still good honest people out there. The best part was when he showed me my old damaged part and educated me on it! I didn't even have to ask and he did it on his own free will. I love that! I still need more work done but even then he guided me in such a way to save money, not wipe me out for my next repair! P.S. Little bit of a story... Wife and I recently took ownership of her late father's old Civic. It's been sitting the better part of five years with sketchy service and no records. It suddenly became available to us about a week before it's registration was due, and, oh yeah, it needs to be smogged beforehand. I was able to do some basic stuff to get it rolling, but it failed smog because the timing was too retarded (versus being "too advanced." These are the actual terms). I don't know a thing about timing, so with the time crunch and only one weekday available I needed help. I expected to have to call a whole bunch of places, because I only really had today to get it done. Happily, Pat just said to bring it on down, and he'll take a look. Oh. That was easy. After a quick chat, my wife and I went off a have a pint at Brickhouse, across the parking lot. Estimate was one hour. I think exactly one hour later, on our walk back, I got the call he's finished. We did find out later the timing was set to the wrong value, but it was exactly where he thought it should be set, so kudos for precision! Had to come back for the correction, but he was very gracious about the mistake, and dialed it in to the correct timing right away. No excuses, or blame, or anything else. Everyone makes mistakes, and it's all about how you make them right. A simple error with a quick correction is pretty good in my book. read more

My headlights went out. It wasn't the obvious reasons ( burnt out light etc.) I went to a few places and the problem could not be solved. I was told that I should go to the dealership or try Pat. Went into get some work done on my old Toyota. The asian man behind the desk in the main office was really rude and off putting. The work that was performed fixed one issue, but shortly after my car stalled 3 times the day I picked it up. We spent over $400 at this shop only to have our car work even worse. Now I had to get it towed to a different mechanic who will hopefully get the job done right. When I went to pick up the car the guy said "We told you we'd call your dad if we finished it today", this was after I called a hour before and asked for the status to which he said "it'll be ready by the end of the day". The owner is arrogant and rude with his clients, that alone was enough for me to drop this shop like a ton of bricks. Rude services, sub-par quality work. Save yourself the headache and go to a different mechanic that won't rip you off. read more

I am usually distrusting of automotive repair places, (owing mainly to a shyster in Davis who actually removed my vacuum hose lines so that I'd fail smog repeatedly) but Patrick at Elk Grove Auto Clinic has gained my trust. He has a great personality, didn't mock me when I spent 20 minutes going down the wrong part of 2nd street looking for him (my fault, mind you... I was too proud to use my GPS...), and he detailed my car's situation fully and honestly. Most importantly, you can tell from working with him that he really cares about his work and he really likes what he does. There's no grumbling, no entitled "gosh, another darn customer?" kind of attitude that I've gotten in some places, and lots of smiles. I have been going to Pat for over 18 years. My experience with him reflects everything I read in the other reviews. He only does what is necessary and doesn't try and up the bill with add ons. Engine light checks are normally done for free, only if he has to dig further does he charge me. If he isn't comfortable with doing the repair himself he will tell me so. I have sent my 92 year old Mother-in law to him and he treats her with the same respect. My only hesitation is that if he gets all these great reviews he will be too busy for a one man shop. When I initially went into the office I had no clue who I was speaking with. I was picking up my son's car and it was about 4:45 in the afternoon. When I got there I didn't see my son's car. I introduced myself and said I was picking up my son's car. The man, who turned out to be Pat, said very sharply to me is that he told my son he would call me when the car was done. His sharp tone was not necessary. My ride had to go and Pat made a remark of, don't worry we'll get along. This lead me to believe he knew I wasn't pleased with his tone. While waiting things went well. I wrote a review on Facebook positive for the shop. Big mistake! My son had a problem with the car PULLING to the right. The shop Pat uses for the alignment said the car slightly drifted to the right and if we rotated the tires that should fix it. My son drove the car the day after I picked it up and called me and asked if the car had been aligned. I told it had and he said it didn't feel any different. I called Pat to double check about the alignment and he was again a little sharp. He said to do what the alignment shop told me to do and if there was still a problem to bring it back. Took the car to Less Swab and was told there was a split in a tire which was very visible! When I called Pat again, I shared with him that his business partnership with the alignment shop didn't seem to be a good partnership if they didn't tell him about the split so that as a consumer I could have been better prepared to by new tires. While I was speaking I didn't feel Pat was really listening to me. He finally said that there would be a conversation with the alignment shop. The way he said it sounded very sarcastic. Not telling a consumer their tire is split is a BIG safety issue and I feel Pat should have taken this more seriously and he wasn't. Just my opinion. read more

I have found Pat because he is right next to my work. I have been very happy! I take my car in for oil changes, but he does more than just an oil change. He checks my lights and a whole bunch of other stuff while my car is there. He is very honest and will tell you good or bad news. I like the good news though! I highly recommend Pat. Sometime around early this year, my Toyota Previa van had a check engine light on. Seeing that this place has a 5 star solid Yelp rating, I decided to come to this place to have my van checked up. The shop was closed due to the holiday but Pat, a truly wonderful man, apparently stopped by his shop just in time as I was about to leave. He wanted to know how we can help and when I told him what the problem was, he volunteered to have my van checked up and reset the engine light. He mentioned this may work and if not, then to come back and have him look at it. Well, the light never went on again. He did all of this as a courtesy. My husband and I visited this place because we needed to scan the check engine light. We just moved to Elk Grove and decided to go to Auto Clinic based on the good reviews they have. Lucky for us!! Excellent and really fast service. Honda dealer charged us $145 and they would keep the car during the weekend... we arrive to this place at 4:00pm, it took 10 min to scan the car. After reading the reviews on Yelp I decided to bring my car to the Auto Clinic. On a Saturday my check engine light came on and I was in need to get it checked first thing Monday morning, I showed up without an appointment and the owner saw to me immediately. Checking the code and agreed to service my vehicle. He estimated it would be 2-3 hours, bur actually only took an hour to repair and I was on my way. I went to this fellow one time. I have a van to drive my children around in. One day my door locks started going on and off whenever there was a bump in the road or I braked hard. I had no idea what it was, so I made and appointment and took it it to this shop. The man running the shop asked me a few questions, came outside and opened the rear door\trunk. He knew exactly what was happening, I don't know how. Guess maybe he'd seen it before. I felt so stupid, but even worse after he got through with me. The baby stroller was in the back and by pure chance was perfectly lined up and leaning against the door lock button. Every time the van hit a bump, it hit the button and the door locks went off. It took him 15 seconds and he didn't have to do a thing. Unfortunately, that didn't stop him from charging me $35 and telling me it was a "stupid tax". I paid, but I'll never go back. Anyone that does something like that, especially to a woman with little kids trying to get her car fixed, then calling her "stupid" because she didn't notice some obscure issue, it a total jerk in my book. That was several years ago now, but i never forgot it. We have 3 vehicles and have spent thousands in maintenance, repairs, etc... The idiot running Elk Grove Auto Clinic never got a dime of that money though, all because of his $35 stupid tax for 15 seconds "work". I guess it really is true, tax collectors really are jerks. read more

Pat is such a great guy! We brought our Dodge Charger in because the check engine light turned on. Pat plugged in the computer and told us what it read. He said sometimes this is a false flag and cleared it out at no charge! He said even if the engine issue was true it was not a safety issue, so he said keep driving it for the week and see if the light came back on. Never asked for any money at all for his time and expertise! Of course the light came back on a couple days later, so we took it back to him to fix it. He worked around our schedule and fixed it quickly. We figured since he already had our car, we asked him to do the 100,000 mile tune up as well. When I arrived to pick up the car, he showed me the checklist that he went and got from Dodge with check marks next to each thing he had done. He even had each dirty filter, gross gasket and the faulty thermometer he replaced laid out on the work bench to show me and explain what he had done. Great service! Reasonable price! Pat was highly recommended by a friend, since we were new to the area, and Pat has now seen all three of our cars, and fixed all issues in a very timely manner, and his prices are lower than other name brand shops. Pat even came to my rescue on the side of the road, for the tow truck was going to take over an hour, to see if something was an easy fix.
