I normally expect car things to cost too much, but wow. All I had was 2 burned out headlights. I already had the headlights with me that I bought elsewhere, but had brought it in thinking it was an electrical issue. AUTOPLEX AUTO SERVICE recently repaired my 2005 Dodge Durango SLT that was experiencing a massive fuel leak on the engine and fuel tank area. I spoke to service reception and schedule my vehicle for maintenance to repair the leak and prevent any challenges for the future. The gentleman I scheduled my appointment with was professional, courteous, and friendly. He assured me my vehicle could be examed and fixed in a reasonable time. I took my vehicle in the following day, spoke with Lou the owner and immediately understood why my visit to AUTOPLEX AUTO SERVICE was the correct choice. During the service and maintenance of my vehicle Lou keep me informed and updated on all vehicle diagnostics by phone to make sure I understood anything and everything needed to repair my vehicle. AWESOME! The repair was completed that same day and Lou informed me phone I could pick up my SUV. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle I met with Lou who once again gave me an even more detail description of what was done to correct the leak. He also showed me the faulty parts that had caused the issue and that those parts had been replaced. I'm very satisfied with my repair and service I received. This review is for service provided last year. When I have my car repaired (an old Toyota) I like to wait several months to see if the repair holds up. Mike and Lou have repaired my car a couple of times now and each time they: * provided excellent communication * informed me about additional repairs that were recommended and did not push or pressure for those repairs * began work only after confirming the price and work to be done * performed the repairs that I requested with integrity * charged what they said that they would charge for the repair There really hasn't been a down-side to working with Mike and Lou for the last two repairs. Their price for the repairs both times came in higher than some shops who quoted the work, and lower than others. Lou is the owner at Autoplex auto in Tempe (and yes, he HAS moved from the Priest location to 250 W. Guadalupe Rd. #17 in Tempe). Lou is absolutely the best case scenario when it comes to getting / keeping your car in top shape. My family and I have been taking all our cars to Lou for the past 15 years, and have always been satisfied with his work. Lou and his guys are absolutely honest, charge reasonable rates for the work they do, and do an excellent job. He is always really good about explaining exactly what is wrong, and how much it is going to cost to fix it (no surprise charges). Additionally, when you take something to Lou to get fixed you can be confident that it will be done right. Just as an illustrative point--I was in California a few months back and got my car checked out before the drive back to Arizona. The guys at the auto shop in California told me I had a whole laundry list of things that I needed to get fixed on my car. I decided to wait until I could have Lou look at my car, and Lou said all the things they had recommended were bogus. In summary, Lou has kept my cars in great shape for a long time. I found him! This is Lou's shop that was located on Priest Drive, and is now on Guadalupe. We have taken my cars (plural) to this shop on several occasions and the employees have always been helpful and honest. Whether it was for a quick oil change or some major overhaul, the guys @ this shop are always reliable. My car wasn't running and Lou arranged for it to be towed in, and gave me a deal on the work to be done. He also looked over two cars we were looking to purchase and gave us an honest evaluation of the vehicles. Now that I know where his new location is, he has my business! read more

Straight forwardness, integrity and honesty combined with the technical expertise to get the job done right the first time are what I demand when it comes to having a place to take my cars. I met Lou when his son and mine were on the same coach-pitch baseball team, and he offered to accept and dispose of some sort of automotive waste fluid that we were having trouble getting rid of. What I like about Lou is that he's completely forthright and honest with me, and will work with me to find solutions that make sense. I own older vehicles and they need repairs, and sometimes, it's not worth it to put in the expensive OEM part. Lou understandably will start off with the best quality part (remember, he is on the line for free labor if the part fails), but will work with me to find an option that makes sense. Mike is a top notch master tech. He has figured out stuff that even the dealership couldn't nail down for me, in the past. Now, if you're looking for the absolute lowest possible price, go across the parking lot to those guys to the west. They'll save you a few dollars today, but maybe cost you a bunch of dollars later on. And if you have a problem - good frickin' luck. But if you're willing to pay a bit more for quality, but not willing to be gouged, this is the place for you. There's a big shop about 4 miles south that does great work - but man do they make you pay through the nose! Autoplex Auto is my "go to" for genuinely good guys that deliver just what I need. And if something's not right, I have no doubts they'll make it right. Oh - I read some reviews where the people complained about being ripped off. I lol'd, because I understood what was going on. Lou wasn't willing to do a halfa$$ed job that was gonna come back to be a problem for him and the customer. I hate cars, because you always end up paying, paying, paying. Woohoo - This auto service provides the best service!!! We drive across town to go to these guys. I have been coming to them since 1995 (around then) & I am always treated with respect & like a customer - not a stupid woman (like some mechanics do far too often). My hubby had a co-worker who wanted me to call the shop for him, so he could get the same service & "special" discount since we were referring him. I told him there was no such thing, as Lou (Owner) & Mike (Manager) treat everyone the same. I get treated the same as a new customer does & there is no such thing as a "special" discount. Although Lou & I do share funny stories when he is not busy answering the phones, however I don't that is what I would call a "special" discount. I take these guys cookies, brownies & anything else I can think of as they are always nice, helpful & they actually care that my car runs properly. If I tell them there is thingy that is messing up - they figure out the thingy & explain it to me in simple terms (without being condescending) :-) LOVE THAT about them more than anything. I never worry about being overcharged, especially since on more than one occasion when they could find what was wrong, they didn't even charge me for their time. Don't trust these other reviews on here, this place is out to scam you and make as much money as they possibly can. They put a "new" engine in my fiance's car less than 30,000 miles ago, we have since moved or else I would be in there creating a very large scene, since then every single component under the hood has had to be replaced. They charged almost $8,000, lucky for them she did not know any better and paid that amount. At each of the places that I have been to get the car fixed since and told them the story they have said that not only were we over charged, by a considerable amount, but none of the supposed "new" parts that were put on were new. I have never seen such disgust as I did on the mechanics face today when he was under the hood pulling the car apart. He was appalled that a place of "business" would do the job that they did here and pretend to be an honorable mechanics shop!!! If they simply replaced the engine block with a new engine it would be $1500+labor but for $8000 all of the surrounding components should have been replaced as well but instead they put in used, or the old, parts and pawned them off as "new" or did they just charge $6500 in labor. This place should be ashamed of what they did to that car. Lou and Mike and the guys have been "looking after" my vehicles for 10+ years. They are honest and let me know when something needs to be fixed now vs something that can wait. I can trust them because they do the right thing. I can easily drop my van off and get a ride to work. Lou or Mike calls me to discuss what needs to be done and later I can get a ride back to the shop when everything is done. I won't use anyone else but them. Had a problem with the power steering, found these guys on Google and brought the car in. They were very friendly at first, but the job they wanted to perform was over $1000. I brought it in thinking it was just the pressure hose, but they stated we needed to have the rack and pinion replaced as well and needed to charge for a re-alignment on top of that. After talking to my mom (whose vehicle it was previously), found out the rack and pinion had been replaced less than two years prior. She called in stating that only the pressure hose was to be replaced. Lou refused, stating he wouldn't do half a job. I think he thought he had us pigeon-holed to get the job done there, but we had the car rolled out of the shop and had it towed to our regular mechanic. Thankfully we had AAA which covered most of the way. After our regular mechanic looked at it, he found it was only the clamp that had come loose on the pressure hose and a boot jack had come loose and was resting on the rack and pinions. All in all, it was under $300 to fix, and the car is running great again. These guys also charge a hefty rate of $99 an hour for labor. The going rate for most places is $65-$75 an hour. Just be wary. read more
