Felt incredibly desperate after I got a flat tire out of nowhere and I usually have AAA but I was having issues getting them to come out so Autotronics was supposed to my saving grace. Already feeling overwhelmed, I walked in and was met with subpar customer service. All I said was hi and one of the mechanics just immediately points to me to the desk without saying anything. I was desperate, I would have waited hours for their help but then the lady at the desk made it seem like I was being an inconvenience because they were so busy. I went down the street instead. Granted, I wasn't looking for large automotive repair so the amount of business I was bringing realistically was insignificant but there's better ways of communicating with any potential clientele. TL;DR: they took me in on short notice on a Saturday, got my car running nicely same-day, seem to have charged me fairly, and overall made the surprise flashing Check Engine light experience very low stress for me! -- Drove from East Bay to visit a friend in the area. But before I started on my way home late that night, my old family Lexus began to shudder a bit while idling. Then the Check Engine light began to start flashing instead of just lighting up, and a quick google warned me that it meant something was wrong enough to potentially threaten the catalytic converter, that most renowned of expensive parts. I called Autotronics the next morning (Saturday) around 10, and the gentleman on the phone told me he could take in my car around 12:30. I was a bit late due to towing delays (and called ahead to let them know), and they accommodated that graciously. I met the same Asian gentleman from the phone outside the little garage office to the right of the waiting room from the outside, and he got me checked in quickly with some pleasant idle chatter. They checked my engine error code quickly and quoted me a half hour's labor to replace an ignition coil and its spark plug, as only the one coil was coming up faulty on the code report. I was told they could get the parts from an auto shop supplier down the street, so parts would likely be delivered in half an hour. Their waiting room is small but stocked with many chairs and some tables, a water cooler and teas, a fan and heater, some magazines, and even a TV for those who want to wait around. There's also a tiny bathroom in the back of the building, but you'd best ask for a pointer before walking through all the open cars, as the garage is quite tightly packed! However, I ended up taking a walk to enjoy the nearby downtown shops for most of my wait. I came back in exactly an hour with some lunch, but everything was already squared away when I got back. After checking out with the same gentleman again, when I got in my car parked across the street, the engine was purring as though nothing had been wrong to begin with. :) I will also note: I double checked the quoted prices for the replacement parts/labor online. The prices for both seemed fair and in line with ranges online, which I definitely appreciate extra, as I'm always wary that unfamiliar mechanics will try to upcharge me as a woman with relatively little car repair knowledge. I just came in for a quick tire patch job since the quote was half of what the previous quote was (by a shop that could do it tomorrow at the soonest) and they could do it the same day. Then after speaking to Peter for a couple minutes, I was treated to 2 slices of pizza and my air stem replacement job was done at no charge! He made my day more than I can put into words! Hard to find an honest shop who doesn't just want to take your money for a simple diagnostic, took my BMW which has issues with fan high fuel pressure pump along other things after getting it back from another shop not comfortable with the quote given to fix it. I brought it here told Technician that I know it has many issues and I just want to sell it I wanted to make sure it's worth it fixing it to sell, he diagnosed it and showed me the issues, he then went to the computer and tried to find out if there where recalls on this issue and told me if there was; I could take it to a dealer to get it fix at no charge, but my car had passed the years/miles to be eligible. He gave me quote to fix the issue and suggested I could sell it as is for less, since this car being a turbo 335i are often used to upgrade them and someone would want to buy it to take it apart... I'm from out of town visiting a friend and realized I had a huge nail in my tire on a Saturday evening. I called multiple tire places in the area and this place was the only one that said they'd take a look at it. I was desperate and concerned that I wouldn't be able to make the drive home back to my family. Again, this was the only place that would even take a look at the tire. I drove over and the mechanic right away came out and looked at it--no waiting. To top that off, the actual service was bar none the best I've ever had. He told me that the nail went in sideways and it didn't puncture the tire. He told me I'd be able to make it home and to watch out for the tire to bubble because the nail may have breached the steel belt layer. I offered to pay him, but he refused. I wish I could give this place a higher rating--responsive, honest, and genuine. In addition, the quote I received to fix the flat over the phone was cheaper than fixing a flat from where I'm from. Someone tried to steal my catalytic converters, but for some reason they only took out the drive shaft, so this morning as I was dropping off a kid at school, the cap on the catalytic converters fell, I managed to get myself to Autotronics and Sam took a look at my car immediately, he immediately knew what happened and made couple phone calls to the dealers asking for parts. Almost like a miracle one of his contact had the part, so he expedited my car and is currently working on the repairs now. He said he will get me out within two hours. Im glad I found this shop. I am usually very picky about where I bring my car to for service because I drive an E63 and in my experience, even some Mercedes dealership technicians are not competant enough to work on the AMG models. I have brought my car here about 4 times within the last couple years, most recently to replace my entire intake manifold (nearly a $4,000 job). They were able to show me the exact cause and location of my vacuum leak before I authorized them to do the repair. I dropped my car off on a Monday and they were able to order and put in the whole thing by Wednesday. Service is friendly and excellent. Noel and William are very knowledgable and trustworthy guys who treats customer's cars as if their own. They even went out of their way to clean my entire engine bay. Not the same as before, Beware. First, I was a customer since 2011 and dealt most of the time with Peter, one of the owners at Autotronics. I even followed them when they moved to other shop locations and brought in over 4 German cars for various services throughout the years. NOW, when I visit today: 1. Two guys in front desk: One guy with a stink face and broken English, talking combative to me. So, I defer to the other guy, Noel, who was on the phone from the moment I arrived and waited for him, stand 3 feet away for 15 minutes. No acknowledgement, no greeting or assurance about getting to me. I finally ask "Do all customers go through this?" He finally responds, negatively. So, I no longer feel welcome there nor confident in their staff, so I just left. Not rewarding bad customer service. 2. Garage looked messy, cars were parked inside. Waiting room is run down, not a pleasant space for customers. 3. The entire shop staff seems to have changed. Sorry, Peter, you've been a good guy, but I'm not coming back. read more
