Brought an old battery into the store to buy a replacement. I was the only customer in the store with 3 workers behind the counter. Had to wait a few minutes before one person made eye contact and asked what I needed. I told him and he proceeded to ask another worker to help me even though he was not doing anything. That person mumbled something about taking a personal call and walked out of the store. The first guy asked the third guy to help me and he never looked up from the counter. After waiting a few more minutes I said forget it, walked out, went across the street to O'Reilly and they were very helpful. read more

A quick Thank You to Tim for helping me replace a battery yesterday. I've been going to this location for many years and Tim's been there a long time. He's always friendly, professional, and quick to help with a solution. We had a heavy snowstorm this past week and Tim (on his day-off) battled horrible road conditions to get in to work and open the store, knowing that no other co-workers were able to get to work. It all started 'cause I want to be sludge-free. Ya know, like the oil commercial, with the seized-up engine cut in half, examined by the host of "Dirty Jobs." He takes a swipe of sludge with his finger, tries to shake it off, but, sadly, cannot. Every viewer/car owner gets the message that he or she is morally obligated to change his or her oil regularly. Now, I am not compulsive about changing my oil. But when I get about 5000 miles on it, I make time to change it. Sure, I could pay someone else to do it. With only a half-day off this week, it would be much easier. But then I would miss out on communing with my father. When I was a kid, I would hold the shop light, and hand him tools while he hissed and cussed his way through a difficult repair. Now, as I bend my arm over the axle, and grate my wrist along a sharp aluminum part, Dad's spirit rises from within my DNA, and across a span of 25 years, we hiss and cuss together. Anyway, not wanting to wander through Walmart, I thought I'd just pick up some oil while I was shopping at Target. But there were only three quarts of off-brand oil, and Pennzoil brand was $3.49/quart, more expensive than I'm used to paying. No problem, I thought, I'll just take my business to Autozone, since I'm going to pass by anyway. When I got there, I saw a sale posted on the exterior glass, and at a floor display just inside the door: $17.99 fora 5-quart jug of Pennzoil, with a free Fram "extra guard" filter. Now, keep in mind that when purchasing a bulk jug like that, the price per quart usually is LESS than the single quart price, and this was more expensive per quart than the the little bottles at Target. But, since a filter was thrown in, and since the canister filter on the wife's '09 Malibu is relatively expensive, I thought I'd still get a deal. However, when salesguy retrieved my filter, he said "free" didn't apply, though I would receive a discount. When it finally rang up, my $17.99 jug of Pennzoil rang up for $18.99, my Fram filter $8.99, and I received a $5.99 combo discount for a pretax subtotal of $21.99. Later, since I had to take the used oil to recycling anyway, I decided that I would make time to compare prices. At Walmart the exact same jug of Pennzoil was priced $14.50, and the exact same Fram filter $6.44. Had I purchased the items there, my pretax total would have been $20.94, $1.05 less than Autozone. Granted, Autozone provides more personal customer service, which is nice if the part you need is a specialty item, or just something you don't repair or replace very often. But the kind of promotional pricing I encountered today is both confusing and insulting. I don't want to have to read the fine print on a sign in order to calculate an item's true cost. I don't want to purchase the "special" only to discover it's more expensive than a competitor's regular price. When it comes to your promotional strategy, Autozone, get the sludge out! read more

I went in to get a new headlight bulb since mine was out, a worker named Jessica had to be called to help me, she came up and gave me the biggest attitude. I didn't hear what she first asked me and she rolled her eyes and said "MAKE AND MODEL OF YOUR CAR?!" I told her, answered all of her questions politely and she still had an attitude. She was slamming her fingers down as she was typing, showing that she was clearly annoyed. When I was about to pay she just pointed to a card reader and said "THERE" when I was paying I said "could someone help me put this in my car?" (I've always had the works help me install it.) And she said "he's gonna have to" pointing to another guy who was clearly busy while she was doing nothing. Just an overall rude experience. read more

Story: My check-engine light came on over the weekend, so as soon as Monday rolled around I went to the dealership to get it checked out (having heard many a story about the disasters of ignoring this little light). The dealership told me they wouldn't be able to see me till NEXT Monday, but that my car should be okay to drive. Upon hearing my woes, a friend suggested I go to AutoZone because they can connect to the engine computer through the door and diagnose the problem. It sounded too good to be true, but it absolutely was! Not only did it take about a minute, it was totally and completely FREE. Best part? Diagnosis: Gas was evaporating because my gas cap wasn't tightened all the way. Can you imagine how much it would have cost to have the dealership tell me that? In addition to checking the engine, they can also check the battery, starter, alternator, and WHO KNOWS what else. Every time I've been to this store in particular, the people I've spoken to have been very friendly and extremely polite. The previous time I went in to buy windshield wipers, the cashier helped me put them on (it was totally easy and I felt really lame for not knowing how to do it myself, but he didn't mind at all!). There is just something about Autozone I have never liked. I haven't really been able to point to a specific thing until recently. I have trying out the various retailers options of ordering online and picking up in the store. I tried this at Autozone recently. Online it said all of the items I had ordered were in stock and could be picked up in about an hour. I waited until the next day to go pick up my items. When I arrived at the store there was a long line of customers. It appeared as there was some sort of chaos. I couldn't tell who was in line and who was not. When it was finally my turn I handed the online printout to the associate. He went in the back to find my order. When he came back he told me they didn't stock one of the items and the other items wouldn't be in until two days later. What? Your online ordering system said everything was in stock. The associate wasn't very happy when I asked for a full refund. I'll go somewhere else that has the items I need readily available. read more

I had shockingly delightful service here a few days ago. A younger man named Brad really helped me out and saved me some money that I might have had to spend replacing the box that holds the license plate lights on my older car (the license plate light's screw was rusted into something or other). He went out of his way to personally check that area of the car and popped the light right out of there with ease. Before checking out, I was asked multiple times if I needed any help from multiple employees. Great customer service! read more

My vehicle was having difficulty starting so I came here to have the battery checked and was told it was good. Then my car wouldn't start in the parking lot till I got jumped. Now I'm at the dealership, where I'm told my battery was bad, and being charged out the ass. read more
