RACIST PARTS MANAGER SAYLOR ACEVEZ. I requested low bean…read morelight purchase and install. Employee assisted me and them proceeded outside to install. After having difficulty, understandably a new employee with only 2 weeks on the job as he explained nicely; he went to ask the Manager for assistance and came back to tell me the no one else would assist. Left my hood open and light detached. I exit my vehicle to go in and request to speak with the Manager for assistance. Saylor Acevez, working manager very casually sitting behind the desk, tying his shoe and zipping a book bag looked at me and said, "No, I'm not doing that". I said, I'm requesting a service to be completed and you are speaking to me in a very disrespectful and demeaning way, "did I approach you in a way that was rude", "no, I did not", but you are speaking to me like I just kicked your dog outside. I then stated, if you are the Manager, why are you unable to assist me, he said, I'm just not. Seeing his level of communication was not at all customer service oriented, I proceeded and asked for a refund of the product. He responded, "then give me the lights back". I stated your employee has them and I never touched them as he was attempting-to install and left them at the car. I asked the "Parts Manager" for his card. He said I don't have one. I said, then please write your name, store number and general managers name down because I would like to verify why you 1. Could not assist me or the new employee, and 2. Why I felt the level of communication directed towards me was discriminatory and disrespectful. When I stated my employee affiliation, he then started explaining himself and becoming more defensive and asked why I wasn't reporting the employee. Sir, the employee explained why he was unable to and communicated that using proper deescalation. You sir, a Manager, did not properly assist the employee with issue or customer concern and created what should have been a resolvable issue. You refused to assist me as a Black Woman. Now that you can see that my level of education and experience is worthy of proper communication of respect you are now concerned because I've informed you that I will be addressing this with your District Manager and Corporate. I have been a customer of Auto Zone for a long time and have never been refused service unless it's due to inclement weather. Since he would not give me his name, I looked at his employee name badge and he moved behind the desk so I could not see it and then proceeded to turn around and face his back to me to avoid me capturing his name, which I had previously taken note of.

Mostly all of them are refurbished/remanufactured. Mostly all stores have a core charge. But this place is always more than others. Always. What a core charge is for those of you not familiar with working on your own car, it's a "fee" so to speak they charge you till you bring the old one back. Like a battery, alternator, starter, some brake pads/discs etc. When it comes to parts, you don't feel like messing anything else up by having a faulty alternator that won't push everything in your car, or surges and shorts out other things. The location is excellent. It's well lit even at night. Parking is great with an even flow. And they have 2 entrance/ exits. They stay open pretty late which is a plus. The customer service at this location had been pretty consistent. I will have to say I am impressed. He was extremely courteous and patient (even in freezing cold weather). He also noticed that I need new wiper blades and changed them for me as well. I offered a tip but he refused and said "that's just what we do here". I will definitely come back for all of my auto part needs and tell my family/friends!

Had a bad battery in my lawn tractor, so I called and located an appropriate replacement. Went to…read morepick it up. Asked if it was fully charged. They assured me it was. Went home and installed the 'new' battery. Tried to start the mower, but it clicked twice and did not turn over. Checked all connections and tried again. Not even a click this time. Noted the nut on one bolt had corrosion, so I went back and got new bolts and nuts for the battery posts. Once all connections were properly connected again, I tried to start the mower. No joy. Called to ask if they could deliver a new battery that actually was charged. Was told they don't deliver, but would check another battery to make sure it was charged and would swap it out for the first battery they sold me. So... I took the battery back, very frustrated. They swapped out the batteries. While doing so, the 'manager', Courtney, laughed about the whole issue and wanted nothing to do with offering any resolution to my frustration. Unhappy, but hopeful, I returned home. After once more installing the 'new' battery, nothing changed. Do NOT go to Advance at 5790 Broadway in Merrillville unless you like being ignored, laughed at, or just like doing the same thing 3 times or until you realize that these 'specialists' know less than nothing about what they are doing. Courtney was rude and dismissive. PS - Upon exiting the store for the third time, I was informed by another employee that Mgr Courtney is NOT THE mgr.. She is one of several assistant managers ... an incompetent one.

My back brakes on my Volvo had suddenly started grinding excessively so as a single woman and…read moreparent I panicked and pulled in USA Muffler to see what was going on. After checking, I was told that it was my brakes and rotators, which is suspected already. However, here comes tricky part. They told me that my caliber had broken as well and that I would now need new ones. This is now my third Volvo and that's for a reason. The parts and the cars last! With that said, I was understandably confused. They also said that calibers come in pairs so I couldn't just by one, I'd need to buy a pair. I actually wanted to hold off and take my car to my guys at CH imports but after the older gentleman explained in his savvy "mechanical" genre the consequences of driving with a broken caliber, he convinced me to just get the work done. They of course didn't have what my car needed so the work couldn't get completed until the next day. My car is pretty sporty and the calibers are red. They attempted to just leave the back new ones silver. I had to ask them to paint them. Which of course they then had to order the paint to do that! Either way, once it was all said and done I had a bill of 950.00 bucks. A few weeks later the weather warmed up so I was able to drive with the windows down. Well, I kept hearing this rattle in the back. Just recently, I finally took my car to my regular guys at CH Imports to have work done and they discovered that the back brakes were put on backwards by USA Muffler! Mind you, CH Imports specialize in Volvos and when I told them about USA Muffler claiming that my caliber had broken they suggested that I was mislead. My guy assured me that Volvo calibers NEVER just brake and in all of his 25 years of working on and rebuilding Volvos he'd never had that occur. In addition, the new calibers that were put on by USA Muffler were of course non genuine Volvo ones as I had. Nonetheless, CH Imports put new brakes on and gave me the ones that were put on backwards to take back to USA Muffler. They also rebrushed the calibers that had been done pretty sloppy by USA Muffler and the rattle is now gone. I took the "backward" brakes back to USA Muffler and was refunded 200.00 dollars. It's just disappointing how businesses take advantage of folks, especially women! Had I not been afraid of how my daughter would get home from school that day they wouldn't have been able to get me like they did that day. I panicked and paid a 950.00 dollar bill for it. However, it was out of love and concern for my daughter. WOMEN PLEASE BE AWARE!
