    Dessert trio
    Vicky C.

I spent Valentine's Day dinner here last night. Everything was great, nicely decorated for the occasion. The service and food were both fast. The fixed menu was a four course dinner, compliments to the chef the food was amazing! Towards the end we got our last plate which was a trio of desserts, we were completely full BUT I made it work because I'm not a quitter lol. Thank You TAMPA

I really enjoyed my experience at Ava! I thought that the decor was lovely and the vibe was friendly. I was there on a Saturday afternoon and we were seated right away. The staff was friendly and didn't hover which I enjoy. I had the Plany City cocktail that was light and refreshing. The Italian ham and cheese was flavorful and the perfect blend of ingredients. The peach and blackberry jam added a touch of sweetness and the burrata was creamy. Overall it was a flavorful light lunch. I would love to visit again for the dinner menu.

Nice atmosphere in the restaurant, food was delicious. Service was very disappointing we asked multiple times to multiple people for thing as simple as water and never received anything. Would not recommend coming here for a brunch unless you want to wait an hour plus for you check after asking for it. On and they price the items higher than they showed on the menus and you have to have them fix it. Very unprofessional and put a horrible taste in my mouth. We at a larger tables and they overcharged on items on 95% of the Checks. This restaurant obviously needs help again food was good service wasn't worth going to the place

Espresso martini flight (pumpkin, original, peanut butter, pistachio)

Went for dinner with some friends at 6pm on a Tuesday night. It was fairly empty and we were seated right away. Drinks from the bar took a little while because one person in our group ordered the espresso martini flight (ok it was me, and it was delicious), but for the rest of the night the bar seemed quick. We ordered apps for the table. The cheese tray was good, with some interesting cheeses. The calamari was just so-so, not particularly crispy and kind of floppy. The bread service was by far the stand-out app here. I'd go back just for that. Everyone seemed satisfied with their food. I had the pappardelle with mushrooms and it was fantastic.

Just excellent all around. Great food and attentive service. Had our regulars, the bread service And apple-walnut salad which are both great. We also had the eggplant parmigiana which is exceptional. Had the special swordfish that was perfectly prepared and cooked They also have a fine selection of wines. I personally like the Tuscan varieties: Chianti Riserva and the Antinori Villa Tuscana.

baked penne, chopped Caesar, and a Hugo Spritz.

Went for a friend's birthday brunch at Ava in South Tampa. We split the baked penne and the Caesar salad. We had noticed online that the Caesar came with big pieces of lettuce, so we asked for it to be chopped ahead of time (which they kindly did). The dressing was tasty but very anchovy-forward, so definitely check in on that if you have dietary restrictions. The baked penne is listed on the menu as "pomodoro, meatballs, mozzarella" for $22. Since we split it, the photo I attached is just half the portion. The pasta itself was flavorful, but there was no meat at all--so we were left wondering if something was missing. Tasty, yes, but at that price point, it didn't feel worth it. For drinks, I ordered two Hugo Spritzes. The first was perfectly light and refreshing. The second, however, was off--syrupy, heavy on the elderflower liqueur, and missing the mint. Still drinkable, but not as enjoyable, and I regretted ordering a second round. On the bright side, our waitress was fantastic. She handled our large table with ease, was attentive without hovering, and genuinely added to the experience. Overall, Ava is a trendy South Tampa spot with good food and drinks, though portion sizes and consistency left us a little underwhelmed for the price. We probably wouldn't go back on our own dime, but wouldn't say no if invited with friends again.

Stopped in this morning for their weekend Brunch at 10:30am. The place is very cute and you can tell it is very nice for a chill evening of brick oven pizza and some drinks in the evening. We were promptly seated by the friendly staff. Their brunch menu is very small so don't expect lots of options. We went with the Ava Frittata since we are not fans of the Eggs Benedict and that was their only other egg option and it was just okay with a side of fruit. Nothing to rave about so I wouldn't return for breakfast but may try it out for a pizza and cocktails next time.

I ordered the La Bestia without sausage and a Caesar salad from the happy hour menu. The service was decent, and the food was pretty good overall, nothing amazing, but nothing disappointing either.

We were wanting a restaurant that could accommodate gluten and dairy allergies plus serve Italian and Ava knocked it out of the park! We went in to celebrate a birthday so had made reservations for our group in advance, so when we arrived 15 minutes early expecting it to wait we were sat quickly and noticed two other large groups there too. They were quick to take drink orders and was so glad I was told to get their Blueberry Spritzer, very light and refreshing. Our serve Malia was tentative to all allegories and noted ways to modify (chicken parm Breading wasn't gluten free so the requested grilled or replacement). The food was amazing and I couldn't leave without getting the Nutella Mouse Cake, it even come worth a shot which you can't take that to go, but you get I still asked to have it and can understand why that dessert come with it. The breading on the cake is thick so for it to absorb some of that Skrewball peanut butter whiskey would have make it too perfect! If you're looking for an Italian restraint in south tampa that will cater to allergies, have gluten-free options look no further than Ava!

    Happy Hour

Visited during happy hour and sat in the bar/lounge area. Service was spotty at first but improved throughout the time in the establishment. The restaurant's soft lighting, created a peaceful and elegant ambiance. The food was so good. The Salsiccia pizza was my main dish and it did not disappoint. I also tried the mussels and Caesar salad which were both delightful as well. Happy Hour ends at 7 pm. I'd come back!

    Rigatoni
    Stacy D.

Pretty ambiance with cute decor that makes it cozy, went for brunch and did bottomless mimosas, service was slow to begin with forcing us to ask several times for water. My dish was my favorite out of all of the guests. The rigatoni was flavorful and cooked adequately. However, I was not a fan of the chicken parm, it felt slightly undercooked and has a fishy after taste. The pizza tasted a little too "wood fired" if yk what I mean. Price point is definitely a little high for the place itself, nothing extravagant and not dying to go back, but maybe would try for dinner opossed to brunch

    Salsiccia pizza (delicious)
    Sharilyn T.

This was my first time at this restaurant. I had heard good things before and I went to celebrate a friend's birthday. The service was very nice and the food really good. I tried the beef carpaccio with truffle on top and a sauce that matched perfectly. I also had the salsiccia pizza, thin and full of flavor. I think I will come back to try more dishes because I really liked what I ate. The place also has a good location and a nice atmosphere.

I came to Ava with a large group for a birthday party seated in the party/bonus room - which provided an intimate and fun dining experience. However I was not thoroughly impressed with my meal. My cocktail came out room temperature and the pasta was overcooked and mushy. The chicken parm was good, and my friend loved her calamari and salmon. Most noteworthy- our service was outstanding for such a large party, our food and drinks arrived incredibly quickly and the waitresses did an excellent job. Overall a good experience, the food was subpar in my opinion but I'm not sure how much of it was affected by my party size.

(though still comically high) Rocca continues to be solid, if not spectacular. Two things I think hold it back; first, value. The prices feel too high relative to the portion/tastiness. A great comparison restaurant to Rocca would be Rezdora in Manhattan. I would put Rezdora a few rungs above Rocca in quality/flavor (it's one of the top 100 restaurants in NYC per the NY Times and has a Michelin star, very different than landing one in Tampa) yet the prices at Rocca are effectively the same (each have a traditional ragu at $28). You also don't have to look as far as Manhattan. Just across the bay is Elliott Aster who I think delivers more delicious food, in heartier portions, at a better price point. Given Rocca is perpetually fully-booked, Tampa is obviously okay with their prices, so I suppose 'don't hate the player' (you can't begrudge anyone from charging what they can in this restaurant environment), but for me the value isn't there. Second - I think the inside could use some work. Looking at Eliott Aster, Predalina, or Ponte you can see an example of more elevated interior design. I think Rocca comes off more kitschy than 'homey'.

I made a reservation on Open Table for 2 p.m. My husband and I live in the South Shore area and one of our sons lives in St. Petersburg. For each of us, it's a 45 minute to an hour drive to get to Casa Santo Stefano. My husband (the Dad whom we were celebrating) and I arrived @ 1:45. We get to the door with about 10 other patrons and the door is LOCKED. After a couple of minutes, the door opens and we're told the restaurant is closed due to an "emergency" but that the restaurant may open later that night and anyone with a reservation was notified. I checked my phone and received an email from Open Table stating " the restaurant canceled your reservation" at 1:10 p.m. Everyone was already on the road and we don't check emails while driving. Why not post a sign on the door instead of having patrons stand outside in 100° heat wondering what happened? We didn't see emergency personal, a fire truck or ambulance, so thankfully it wasn't anything catastrophic. Knowing the Columbia and Casa Santo Stefano are owned by the same family, we walked to the Columbia, they graciously honored our reservation. We had a great meal even though it wasn't the Italian Sunday pasta we were anticipating. Someone told me Casa posted that they were open at 4 p.m. on Monday. Good thing we didn't wait around on Sunday. Casa Santo Stefano, how about doing right by your disappointed patrons? How about comping a meal for Dad or least a complimentary glass of wine, coffee and dessert so I can change this 1 star review to a 5 star!
