Always a pleasure to come here, this is one of the first places I bring friends or family while they are in town visiting. The customer service is always great here and today we met one of the owners. He was very nice and friendly and I personally love that. Today I had the burger my wife had . Our friends had the fish and chips, Cuban sandwich and we shared the nachos. We had a few lemon drop martinis which were delicious. The outdoor patio is a great place to dine. There's always a good breeze with it being close to the bay. The area is very nice and quiet and the area also feels really safe. Had dinner here Saturday night after the boat parade. Great local spot on Davis island, easy parking in back. Made reservations, but it wasn't too packed, and got seated right away. We stopped through here for lunch during the week while we were on Davis Island for an appt - parking wasn't too difficult to find, there's a bunch of street parking right along the front of the restaurant. It wasn't very busy, we were helped right away when we walked in. Our waitress was really friendly and attentive! The restaurant reminds me of the small town tavern/restaurants like from the little place we grew up in Oklahoma - nothing incredibly fancy, but you can tell it is well liked by the locals and probably gets pretty busy in the evenings with its regulars. I ordered the burger and sweet potato fries - the sweet potato fries were so good, highly recommend getting them in place of the regular fries. My bf ordered the French dip sandwich, he said it was also really good, and he enjoyed his fries but wished he would've ordered the sweet potato fries after trying mine haha We'd definitely stop in again next time we're out near Davis Island! read more

I was disappointed in my recent visit to this restaurant. After searching for place that offers brunch, I was surprised to find out upon arrival that they no longer have a breakfast or brunch menu and haven't for almost a year now. I explained that the website currently lists a brunch menu and the response was basically sorry about that, you can always go somewhere else. The customer service was underwhelming which might explain why we were the only customers there. The inside is very gloomy and off putting. The only positive was the food was great! Seated outside and was astonished with the number of kids that were running around the tables of other patrons (ours included), screaming at the top of their lungs. Literally two dozen kids and they were definitely outnumbering the adults by a lot. Surprised management didn't step in, as it was so loud, it was impossible talk from across the table of a very small 2-top. Like nothing I've ever experienced before...kids were allowed within inches behind your chair, as they scootered by screaming. Was looking forward to a relaxing casual alfresco late dinner and this couldn't have been anything further from that. Food was fine...pretty standard. Had ordered the grouper sandwich, and the waitress came back to deliver the bad news that they had just run out. Understandable as it was already later in the evening. 3.5 Stars When I lived on Davis Islands, I used to eat here regularly. Once I moved off the island, however, I never made it back. Flash forward to a Friday lunch with the girls, and we were able to make a reservation here, so I came back to my old stomping ground. Our waiter was busy, but very personable and efficient, and though drinks took some time to appear, once the food order was in, it all arrived in a timely manner. Our group of four started with the fried green tomatoes topped with goat cheese appetizer, and though obviously not made in-house, they were surprisingly good. My friend and I split two lunch entrees - the fish tacos and the special of the day, an ahi salad. For $1 extra, they actually split the salad for us, which was incredibly convenient. Both meals were good, and a generous portion, although I do wish the fish in both had more (any?) flavor. I think their prices are a little high for the quality of what you get, but I understand that's probably to cover the cost of being located on Davis Islands. They have a small parking lot out front which is usually full, but fortunately there is plenty of street parking and neighborhood parking nearby. Cool little spot right on Davis Avenue. Quick service and friendly servers. The food was good. The presentation of the Bavarian pretzel was uniquely exciting although the cheese dip that accompanied it wasn't very flavorful. The Calamari Fingers were delicious. Perfectly battered, they were lighter than most. The Chicken Quesadillas were also really good. Also noteworthy were the Cuban Sandwich and the Seafood Linguini. Overall, a large selection of appetizers, salads and entrees. Almost anything you're hungry for you can find on this menu (from burgers to pasta to pizza ... Filet Mignon to Soft Shell Crab ... Visited this restaurant twice while on Davis Island. Large portions, flavorful dishes, good service. Great location for locals.

Used to be our favorite on DI but sadly no longer. Went this past Sat., shortly after opening about 5:15. Maybe 4 tables occupied. Greeted and seated right away but that's were the "service " ended. Taken back with the paper menus... they were nasty, dirty and wrinkled up (almost like they had gotten wet) strictly plain up paper, could have easily been run through a copier for a bit nicer presentation . Next, we waited and waited for our server to greet us and take our drink order. Finally, a young male came over . We placed an order for cocktails and 2 glasses of water. The wait was on and on. Due to the open floor plan, we could easily see our server BS'ing with other employees by the drink machines and we could also see our cocktails sitting at the bar waiting for said server as they were getting warm and ice was melting. After observing this guy for 10 minutes, we finally threw our hands up and left. Glanced back as we exited and he was still gabbing away. Felt badly about leaving but it was so poor and inexcusable as the place was almost empty. Walked down the street and went to Anchor Bar. We really didn't want bar food but there, the service was spot on and we had drinks, wings and a great cheeseburger. Shame on you 220...need to do better. read more

It saddens me to be writing a less than glowing review. We have been going to 220 East since it opened - literally the day it opened, we were there. The food was great, service was great and Chef David (also the owner) always made a point to come out, say 'hello' and check on things and ask how the food was. For 24 years, it was always good. The menu was consistent with everything from appetizers (potstickers were awesome), to a wide variety of salads, pastas, sandwiches and entrees. Approximately six-eight months ago, we heard it had been sold. We'd been in a time or two since then and everything was status quo. Then, last Saturday, we went in after a performance @ the Straz Center. As we approached the front door, my girlfriend pulled open the door to allow me to enter as I am in a wheelchair. At that moment a male server, was coming out to serve one of the outdoor tables. Rather than assist my girlfriend with the door, he just said 'oh, hello', and walked by both of us leaving my girlfriend holding the door. Once inside, the two hosts took a minute to locate us a table and explained they had a new 'seating system'. Fair enough, although the restaurant isn't huge and has never required a 'seating system' before. Once seated, we were given a two-sided paper menu, which we noticed was missing a few of our old favorites. Our server, Brooke, asked for our drink order. I ordered an Absolut Shirley Temple and my girlfriend ordered an iced tea. When, my drink arrived, I went to take a sip and didn't sense any vodka. After my second sip (still no vodka), I verified with Brooke that she understood I wanted vodka in it. She assured me that was how she entered it. She asked me if I wanted a double. I chuckled and said no, just a plain Shirley Temple. For our meal, my girlfriend ordered the 220 Salad (very nice) and the prime rib French dip, which she had ordered the last time we were there. I ordered the fish & chips. My dinner had four very nice pieces of tempura-like battered white fish, hot crispy French fries and coleslaw. All very good. My girlfriend didn't think her sandwich had as much meat, but enjoyed it with her French fries as well. As we both had leftovers, we asked for to-go boxes. My girlfriend also asked for an extra side of au jus to go. We were both shocked when Brooke replied, "yes, but there will be a $1-$2 upcharge". For a two oz. cup of au jus? Yep! We declined. Brooke did offer an empty au jus and my girlfriend poured what was left from the restaurant order In the meantime, we heard a new manager-type (male, bald, bigger guy) telling another table abut the expansion, upgrades, all new kitchen equipment, interior decor, etc that was planned for the future. I guess that's why they need to charge $1-$2 for au jus an or charge $7 for indiscernible amounts of vodka! When the bill came, the drink was still on there. I politely advised Brooke I wasn't going to pay for the drink. She went and spoke to the manager and promptly removed the $7. I explained that my concerns were not a reflection of her service and thanked her and tipped my standard 20-22 percent. While this may seem like a rather long-winded review of somewhat petty complaints individually, as a a collective and knowing how much we've enjoyed it over the years, I fear the new owners with grand plans will ruin a fine hidden gem. This was my first sit down meal since the 'Rona and I had to hit the road to do it! I gladly offered myself as tribute to drive across the state for one of my company's projects, and had the great bonus that some places are already open. Since it was a working lunch, I wasn't able to take pictures so y'all will just have to go by my words. Located right on Davis Island's main road and restaurant row, this cozy bistro is perfect whether for a business lunch or dinner date. My lunch squad was a motley one of contractors, another architect and our client so lunch was pretty simple and non alcoholic. Even then, my sweet tea was delicious and the refills timely. My lunch was their Buffalo Chicken Sandwich - a perfectly juicy, lightly breaded piece of chicken breast marinated in hot sauce and served on a brioche bun. The amount of heat was just right for my palate. Their sandwiches come with a side of perfectly crisp fries, which I enjoyed with their sweetish BBQ sauce. The greens tasted fresh, and they took out those condiments for which my taste buds shall not be named (blue cheese and pickles). I really appreciate their attention to detail! I definitely want to try their cocktails and some of their other steak dishes soon. They definitely get a spot on my "hitting the road" list. read more

We stopped by here before a show at the Straz and I'm so glad we chose this place over places downtown! It's only a short drive to downtown and free parking! We ordered the brie to start, it is absolutely delicious! It comes with a crusty baguette, walnuts, apples, and brown sugar. I ordered the shrimp scampi with squash, zucchini, and fruit. The sauce that the shrimp comes in is AMAZING! The vegetables and fruit were delicious as well. My friend ordered fish and chips and had key lime pie and enjoyed his meal as well. Tonight I dined here with my father who had been craving a cheeseburger (much to my chagrin, my famous home cooked duck à l'orange was not suitable for his palate). My father's cheeseburger was overcooked, sprinkled with bagged shredded cheese, and bun- untoasted. Do not even get me started regarding the random lemon wedge on my plate. Was it garnish? And why had only one of us been selected as holder of the lemon wedge- it was biased and unbalanced. For the record... garnish should not contain seeds! I can only describe this place to be a "fictional depiction of a restaurant one would find in an Off-Broadway play, its food false and a mockery of dining." My father Martin however noted the restaurant was charming, with "cozy" lighting and kitchy Christmas lights around the perimeter of the ceiling. All I wanted was for my detective father to have the pleasant cheeseburger that he had been craving. Maybe this time he'll think twice about passing up an offer of my duck à l'orange. We've been coming here for years. We've always had great service (shout out to Sally!) and we've always had great food. We have had the brie, which is oh so good. We often get the pot stickers which are yummy! We like the soup here, especially the soup du jour. And favorite dishes are the chicken thai cobb salad, the black tie affair OH how rich!, the bacon crusted scallops - WOW, the shrimp hawaiian, lovely. You can't go wrong with any of their burgers and when they have the grouper (or better yet hogfish) - order it Almandine (toasted almonds)! It is wonderful. It's a really great meal, they always accommodate, the portions are very large and moderate pricing. One of the best places to eat on the Island! read more

The floors were just mopped before they opened and gave the place an odd smell, but it soon went away. Server was a little all over the place, but everything was correct. 'Twas the Tuesday before Christmas, And the Tampa streets were a zoo. We needed to find a place for lunch, But I hadn't a clue what to do. (And you wonder why they made me stop writing poetry for greeting cards....) OK, so here's the deal, a group of my friends were heading over to the Ronald McDonald House to make dinner for the kids and their families who were staying at the home over the holiday season. Since the Ronald McDonald House is located right behind Tampa General Hospital, I figured that I could kidnap my girlfriend from a double-shift at the hospital, and grab a nice lunch on Davis Island before it was time to start cooking. Well, that was the plan anyway... As luck would have it, it was a crazy time in the ER so Britt was only able to sneak away for a quick bite. After picking her up, we made a mad dash to the Davis Island business district and found an open parking space in front of 220 East. The restaurant is on the far end of a little bitty shopping strip, and it's a nice place to sit and have a delicious, yet casual meal. The décor is a fun collection of kitschy antiques. My favorite was the gigantic carousel rooster that was staring down at me while I ate, but they also had an old 8mm movie projector, a typewriter, and assorted technologies from days gone by. The interior of the restaurant is a bit dark, but that makes the place seem even more cozy. According to the information on their menu, 220 East proudly serves excellent food in a fun and casual setting which makes them a neighborhood favorite on Davis Island. Nul and David make all of their soups, sauces, and desserts from scratch in their kitchen. They buy only best quality seafood, meat, and produce to help maintain their high standards and consistency. And, they have priced their menu to give their guests an outstanding value. The lunchtime menu had some great options including baked Brie, pot stickers, tuna sashimi, fried calamari, and satay chicken for appetizers. Their French onion soup is AWESOME! They also have a lot of really tasty mixed greens and fruit salads, as well as a variety of soup & salad, and sandwich & salad options. If you prefer, they also have sandwiches and burgers on the lunch menu, as well as more substantial lunch-sized entrées including a small filet, or fresh catch of the day fish, chicken marsala, chicken piccata, or pork margarita. I opted for a cup of their very delicious French onion soup, and then had a Black Jack Burger, which was seasoned with Cajun spices, then topped with melted jack cheese and sautéed mushrooms, and served on a toasted baguette with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and French fries on the side. The "adorable one" had 220's Field of Fruit salad, which was organic field greens tossed with balsamic vinaigrette, then topped with mandarin oranges, crumbled bleu cheese, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and walnuts. We're anxious to go back to 220 East and have a more relaxed meal after the Holidays. The dinner menu has a lot of seafood and pasta dishes, and they have a small wine cellar right near the front door. This looks like a great place to sit back and enjoy a nice dinner with a glass of wine. read more

I could kick myself for not reviewing 220 East as Review #220! But I think, #225 is close enough. 220 East is the BFF's and my go-to restaurant on Davis Island. We normally order to-go food from here but occasionally we will dine in. 220 East has been a Davis Island staple for ten years. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive here. The restaurant is always clean. Parking can be a pain sometimes, but you can normally find a space on the street. I like the food here. It is not spectacular to the point where I get a craving for something particular on their menu, but their food is consistently good. Some of my favorites to start with are the Baked Brie (who doesn't love cheese), Tuna Sashimi, and their delicious French Onion Soup. I normally enjoy the Beef Stir Fry as my entree because it isn't too heavy. For dessert I have had the Creme Brûlée, the Three Berry Shortcake, and the Chocolate Velvet Cake. All of three desserts were very good. The vibe in here is very laid back and casual. There are TVs so you can watch a game at the bar if you choose. Stop by 220 East if you would like a low key evening on beautiful Davis Island. read more

Been coming here for 20 plus years and menu is as changed recently. At first I was little surprised with that since it's been the same for so long. Four of us were in and talked about it and at first weren't very happy with it. Our server Colby talked to us a little about the change and then Jeff the new manager/owner came by and went into detail on the changes and pointed out that they did take some menu items off but that they did add some new ones. We are glad he did. We tried the new mussels appetizer and the new 220 pizza and that pizza might be the best item we have ever eaten there. Prime rib, caramelized onions, horseradish sauce and more. I was pretty impressed with 220 East. We started with the baked brie which was pretty tasty, but had TONS of brown sugar on it. I usually try not to eat that much sugar because it makes me feel sick, so I just scraped it off. But other than that, pretty good. I got the mixed fruit salad with grilled chicken and blue cheese and it was the perfect mixture of sweet and bold flavors. The salad was a pretty big portion as well. My boyfriend got a crispy chicken salad which was basically more fried chicken than I have ever seen before sitting on a bed of lettuce. I think they added too much chicken to the point where it was overwhelming, but he did say it was good. I'm definitely going to come back to try out some other dishes since everything I saw other people eating at the restaurant looked pretty darn tasty. read more

Yesterday was was my birthday. It was a great day except my experience at 220 East. Having lived on DI for 4 years before I moved, I had always enjoyed my dining experience at this restaurant. Last night the waiter was horrible and filet tough! I waited 10 minutes before he arrived, another 10 minutes before he brought me water. After my dinner arrived I overheard another waiter speaking to a table of two. He reminded me of the service I had gotten from previous visits; professional, charming and attentive. He recited the specials which included the prime rib. I had totally forgotten all about the prime rib night! I use to get it often, sometimes ordering ahead for takeout. I would have remembered if my waiter had recited the specials. Well I tipped $3.00 for a bad waiter and stringy tough filet (3 bites only). Could have gotten more of a tip Blake! read more

I'll start by saying the 3 star review was given because of the limited vegetarian menu. Besides the obvious (salad), they also had a portobello melt that didn't sound appealing. I settled for the Margherita pizza and it was ok. Nothing to rave about. The drinks on the other hand were delicious! I had several of the peach pomengrante martinis and they didn't disappoint. The service was good and the waitress was excellent. Would I go back? Probably not unless its for drinks only. Maybe they will update their menu to at least include a veggie burger. read more

Last minute dining last Friday and it was my first time. My friend was craving for a real St Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage and this restaurant served it well as it was very good and the spring roll with corned beef and potato was also tasty. Overall, will be back as the service is fast and the bartender server was very attentive even though the bar was full that night. Met the owners, Nui and Dave and both are very welcoming. 3, maybe 3.5 stars. I havn't explored Davis Island eateries too much so was excited when a friend recommend this restaurant for an early dinner. The absolute stellar component of my visit was the FIRST cosmopolitan I ordered from the bar while waiting for my party to arrive. Probably one of the best Cosmos I've had in a while. The bartender stated it was her "favorite cocktail so how could she make it wrong". Perfectly balances and delicious. The ambience is mildly dark and quaint. Specials are written on a dry erase board? (This can be improved). Most of the wait staff seems young. While not a bad thing, they are lacking experience. Service is SLOW. There is absolutely no flow to your meal, this is most definately due to the wait staff and not the kitchen. The bacon crusted scallops in gouda cream sauce were plump and plentiful. The chicken picatta was unbalanced but plentiful. My second Cosmo was so strong and nothing like the first. Overall I would revisit but with the 20 wait time in between ordering drinks and the 20 mins from asking for our check and receiving it and after the 20 mins after giving our cards and finalizing out checks, I won't be in a hurry to come back. read more
