Fried Egg, Bacon & Avocado Sandwich on gluten free
    Laz C.

I was in town looking for a breakfast sandwich close to the hotel. Found Avalon Cafe & Bakery on Yelp. The number one option here for me was they had Gluten Free bread. This is an order at the counter spot and they bring your meal to the table and you pick up your drink at the counter when ready. The service here was not memorable, it was not bad or not great. Just a transaction that you'll never remember once you go on your day. The dinning area was clean, our food came out hot and fresh. I would return when in Detroit again. Plenty of unhoused people on the street asking for money. I offered the gentleman outside of the restaurant a meal instead. With my upbringing and having the ability to buy someone in need a meal. I would help every single time.

After a walk along the riverwalk, I wanted something to tide me over for the rest of the afternoon. I saw Avalon was popping off and looked like a pretty trendy place. I decided to order the sausage, egg, and cheese muffin. It was pretty tasty and was a nice light meal. My only real complaint is that the service seems a bit slow for a breakfast place.

The salted chocolate chip cookies are amazing! Chewy, with a very slight crisp on the edges, chunks of chocolate, with flaky salt! Get some!!

Stopped here for some coffees for a work meeting with my team. Super spacious place and not too busy around lunch time. Drinks were good and espresso had a great flavor. A couple of us wanted to try their pumpkin spice, but they were all out which was a bummer. Definitely will have to come back to try out some of their food menu, everything looked really good.

Got the house drink brown sugar chai with almond milk and added lavender it was absolutely delicious and then I had to satisfy my sweet tooth with a vegan carrot cake and that was the icing on the cake that literally sealed the deal 10/10 would highly recommend and they have a nice selection for vegans to enjoy !

I love artsy places with photo worthy windows.

Avalon Café's Spanish coffee is the kind of pick-me-up that feels like a warm hug with a little sass. Rich, bold, and perfectly spiced, it gave cozy café vibes with just the right kick to start the day especially in Detroit's cold weather. The balance of sweetness and strength? Chef's kiss. Sipping it inside their welcoming, artsy space just makes the experience even better. A must-try for any coffee lover passing through Detroit!

    Wild mushroom avocado toast

Really cute cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Vegetarian and vegan options too. I had the wild mushroom avocado toast. Generous portion. The mushrooms were a bit salty for my taste and it overpowered everything else and I couldn't taste much avocado, but I enjoyed it overall. The steel cut oats bowl was tasty. Excellent service. Fun and colorful decor.

Stumbled across the gem in search of brunch. It's been a week since I've dined here and it's still on my mind. The staff were super friendly, the establishment was well taken care of. I loved the outdoor seating options. We were super disappointed that both the French toast and pancakes were out when we got there, but we found alternatives and our only complaint was that the bread on the avocado toast was over toasted. I also tried the honey nut oat latte and let me tell you... as someone who does not drink coffee that drink... that drink could convert me. I actually skipped out on a portion of my training a few days later just to go get another. It was like a hug for my soul. This place has a real chill vibe and is good for one on one or group dining. I actually suggested this as a spot to group dine for next year's training. See ya next July!

Beautiful centrally located coffee shop. Latte came out super quick with a cute heart design. If you have a second don't forget to check out the community board with lots of local goings on.

You're downtown so it's gonna be busy. This place got a lil bit of everything. It's nice inside. Food is good but it's a lil over priced. Come prepared & treat yourself.

    Eggs Traditional Benny

Over priced and not very good. I got the eggs Benedict. Hollandaise sauce super water and zero flavor. Eggs were over cooked as well. Won't be back. Also potato's lack flavor. They don't bring your drinks to your table. The cashier did not tell Us they are left on the counter.

    Avocado toast. Harvest chili.

Looking for signature barista drinks? What about a delicious breakfast? Well, this is definitely the place. When i came, the line was out the door and for good reason! The food here is fantastic! I ordered a cortado and it was made perfectly. Not too much milk nor was it steamed too much. I then got a chai latte and let me tell you... It warmed my heart up to capacity. Makes you feel good inside. I had the appetizer of the Fall Harvest Chili and man... It truly hit the spot. I finished my experience with an avocado toast and i was very surprised (and pleased) with the portion of this meal. 10/10 recommend. I would try to and avoid the weekends if i came back. This is a order at the counter and self-seating place so space is very limited. Accommodating large groups to dine in may be difficult. I almost did not eat here since the line was out the door but ended up being enticed by the smells of the fresh baked goods.

$35 for barely a breakfast meal and dirty lettuce? Not good and kinda disgusting. It was probably our mistake to come here early in the morning the day after Thanksgiving. Not on point today! The egg and cheese sandwiches were ok, a little salty, but edible. The potatoes were not good. Very bland and not to my liking. The coffee was ok, nothing special. What I really didn't like was not having an option for a custom tip (after ordering at the counter), so no tip. I can't justify 15-20% on non-sit-down service. Sorry, not sorry. We'll never be back, mostly because we probably won't be back in Detroit anytime soon. If we are, likely not coming here again for breakfast. Maybe lunch...?

Once we sat down, our server had waters at our table already and was quick to come take our drink orders. My friend ordered the very berry Bellini and loved it, so she ordered a second one. She gave it a 10/10. My other friend ordered a breakfast margarita - she gave it an 8/10. For food, we ordered the traditional meal with red velvet pancakes. She rated it a 9/10. My friend ordered house made corned beef hash with eggs, & cheese grits (gave it a 9/10) the grits needed some salt & pepper; and a Cinnabunn pancake (we give that a 12/10). The pancake was fire!!! I tasted a piece and wanted to order my own. My other friend ordered the crème brule chicken & waffles - she gave it a 9/10. I ordered an egg white omelet with turkey sausage, chicken, spinach & bell peppers. It was good but a little too runny for my liking. It came with fruit and whole wheat bread. I asked for strawberry jam and they brought me a homemade strawberry sauce that was soooo good! I give my meal an 7.5/10. Overall, the place is cute and pretty spacious with lots of seating. I would definitely come back and order some other items from the menu!

I was searching for a Restaurant that Truly supports a GF person So many say they are yet ( pre read their menus and nada) This was a test visit for guests that ARE ABSOLUTELY GF. I called for a Reservation. Oops no same day Res, yet I was told there was one Res left for 12:30 ( if We didn't make it the wait would NOT be long. We were a bit late yet our table was waiting for Us... This is a cozy scratch kitchen restaurant with a Greenwich Village vibe. Table seating for 16 bar seating for 3 Yet it didn't feel crowded. We were asked if it was our 1st time? Yes. Menu was fully explained and even b4 I could ask I was told what was always prepared GF and for other dishes what could be substituted...I purposely chose the GF waffles. May I say AWESOME. I had 1 suggestion....add the Tart cherry crafted jam that came with my husband's biscuit as an additional add on with the syrup. with the waffles I blended syrup and jam and. Then my Latte. I asked for a Hot cup. It was creamy smooth. If You can't have dairy ( and they asked) there's options. I need not have worried; there was parking closer by. Oh well. The restaurant is tiny. And it maximizes the space by lining its walls with colorful bottles of wine, chic and cher containers of olive oil, and pots of artisanal honey hiding here and there. My friend pointed out the breathtakingly beautiful bouquet of dried flowers hanging over our table. I should have taken a photo when I had the chance. I started with the spiced brown sugar latte, made with oat milk. Delicious and sweeter than I thought. Even though the menu is small and curated, I could not decide between the nosh plate, the biscuit brekkie, or the quiche, which was the special of the day. So I ended up with the quiche but added the biscuit and bacon - I did not want to miss out. The crust of the quiche was fine, but the custard-like filling was divine, more like a savory crème brûlée or flan. Service was quick and efficient. Our reservation was made for one of the predefined 90-minute blocks, so the staff was on top of getting and delivering our meals and bussing tables as soon as they emptied to make room for the next group of guests.
