She gave it a 10/10. My other friend ordered a breakfast margarita - she gave it an 8/10. For food, we ordered the traditional meal with red velvet pancakes. She rated it a 9/10. My friend ordered house made corned beef hash with eggs, & cheese grits (gave it a 9/10) the grits needed some salt & pepper; and a Cinnabunn pancake (we give that a 12/10). The pancake was fire!!! I tasted a piece and wanted to order my own. My other friend ordered the crème brule chicken & waffles - she gave it a 9/10. Hudson Cafe was the perfect place to duck into on what felt like the coldest day in December. We sat right across from the new Hudson building with the Hudson teddy bear in view, which added to the holiday vibes. Our server, Daniel, was excellent. He stayed friendly and flexible even when we changed an item after ordering, and he handled 5+ tables like a pro. We ordered the Baja Cali Omelette with fruit and a side of pancakes, plus the Green Machine Omelette. Both omelettes were about a 3 out of 5. The eggs were overcooked, likely because they cook large portions at once, so they stay on the heat too long. It ends up giving the eggs a slightly cakey texture and some wateriness as the proteins break down. The Green Machine is very healthy, but the broccoli and other veggies inside add extra moisture and end up steaming the chicken that had been nicely seared. The portions are generous; I would just tweak how the omelettes are built. Just a note that the guacamole was a bit too citrusy (maybe citric acid to preserve?) as well. Coffee was fresh ground and genuinely good. The star of the meal was the pancakes. Fluffy, buttery, with a hint of cinnamon (maybe from the syrup), they were an easy 5 out of 5 and the best item of the morning. Tom was amazing to work with. I hosted an after wedding brunch here on Monday morning. Tom was super responsive and helped to create a limited menu so our guests could order quickly and get on the road. The portions are generous and everything was delicious. He gave us the front corner of the restaurant which made it easy to mingle while eating. Maddie was on the ball and took care of all of our guests. My wonderful girlfriend Val brought me to Hudson Café for my birthday, and wow--what a great choice! The inside is clean, modern, and super inviting. Now, when I go to brunch, I can never just order one thing, lol. So we went all in: the Bacon Jam Omelette, two orders of the Strawberry Shortcake French Toast, and cheese grits. For drinks, we both tried the Drunkin Teddy. Let's start with that omelette... absolutely incredible. Perfectly cooked, and the flavors of the bacon, cheese, and habanero jam were something completely new for me--unique, delicious, and something I'd happily eat again (and again). Val has been to Hudson Café before and always orders the Mexican Omelette, and even she said this one is her new favorite. That's saying something! The French toast? Oh man. Total treat. I thought it might be too much, but it was actually perfectly balanced--not overly sweet, with just the right mix of fruit and dessert vibes. Very much enjoyed. The cheese grits were solid, though not over the top. I couldn't finish them at the table, but they were good enough to take home for later. Per the reviews, on the weekends it's best to make a reservation so that is what I did, and I am glad as I didn't have to wait and I was seated immediately. I dropped in for a quick breakfast before a day at a conference. I arrived minutes after opening and there were already a handful of tables occupied. My only option was to sit at the bar. The server was nice enough, but was also trying to enjoy her breakfast between serving. I ordered the traditional with house potatoes, eggs, ham, and pancakes. The pancakes were soft and a little sugary, the eggs were cooked well, and the ham was juicy. I wasn't a fan of the potatoes. They were cooked fine, probably fried, but they were tasteless. I ate my leftovers during my lunch break and most of the food held its texture and taste, except for the potatoes. They were like leftover fries - soggy with no flavor. The moment we walked into the restaurant, we realized how important it is to have a reservation because they were PACKED! So, my main recommendation is to make a reservation, and to make sure you get there on time/slightly early. There isn't a lot of standing room inside the restaurant to wait to be seated, so don't arrive super early. Also, you WON'T be seated until your entire party arrives, so make sure your chronically late friends gets there on time, or you'll be forced to stand aside until they arrive. We were seated inside the restaurant but saw there were some outdoor seating available as well. The inside is lively with conversations and people. I think the restaurant is well lit and creates an energetic and bright environment - just what you need with your morning coffee. We had a wonderful and fun waitress. Reservations are recommended for The Hudson Cafe located in Downtown Detroit near the former location of the famous Hudson store. I'm thankful we had reservations for our party of ten. We were seated right away although the restaurant was bustling for a Friday morning. Even some DPD staff were taking timeout for a good breakfast/lunch. The restaurant is pretty large and accommodating for our large party. They also have patio dining available on the sidewalk of Woodward Avenue for a view of the bustling downtown area. The food was great! No one in our party ordered the same meal. We had tons of food on our table. I had the plain french toast, bacon and a caramel latte. The warm syrup decanter and plenty of butter made it way more than just plain. Tip: Park in the Metroplis garage. You scan for your validation at the hostess station for 3 hours of free parking with the parking garage just south of restaurant and around the corner. Note: If you plan to visit other businesses, you will forfeit your validation after the 3 hours. Although other businesses offer validation, Metropolis garage does not allow stacking of validations. I've had the cinnabunn pancakes, churro French toast, and blueberry burger. The pancakes were huge, and topped with a cream cheese frosting. Upon trying them, my wife said they were the best she's ever had. The French toast is my favorite of the 3 dishes. It came with caramel and Nutella for dipping. Of those, I preferred the caramel. The burger and the waffle fries it was served with were both standard. The blueberry sauce gave the burger a unique flavor that made it worth trying. My family had a disappointing experience at the Troy Hudson Cafe on May 3 during my wife's birthday brunch, and I'm sharing this to give management clear visibility into what happened. We arrived at 10:37 a.m. and were quoted a 30‑minute wait. We were added to the automated waitlist, which my wife checked periodically. It never reflected our true position in line. Despite waiting more than an hour, we were never seated, even as multiple parties who arrived after us were seated, finished their meals, and left. When we asked for clarification, we were told we were "next," but additional parties continued to be seated ahead of us. Only later did the host team mention a priority system for reservations, which had not been communicated earlier and was not reflected in the waitlist. The lack of transparency made it impossible to understand where we actually stood in line. We ultimately left at 11:55 a.m. and were seated at Granite City by noon. I've reached out to Hudson Café leadership and have also sent a letter to the Troy management team so they have the full account. I'm sharing this here as well because we've enjoyed Hudson Café in the past, and I hope these issues can be addressed for future guests. read more

My friends and I decided to try The Hudson Cafe in Troy, just bc it is a convenient location that is neutral to us, and we didn't want to bother with parking in downtown Detroit. I'm not sure the location size in Detroit, but I will say that the location in Troy is smaller than what I expected. Other than that, I had an very good experience! Our waitress was great, very attentive and professional, and gave great suggestions. I ended up trying the Salmon Croquettes, which came with eggs of choice and grits.
