from fruit picked off the plate
    Brooke V.

Server was friendly and the waffle was good. However I ordered a waffle with my berries on the side since they kinda make waffles soggy. My order came out with the berries on it. I was picking them off and the waiter apologized and asked if I would like it fixed. I said yes, as long as it wasn't too much trouble, I also mentioned that the kitchen may still be making my bacon as it didn't come out. He came back out with the waffle and the fruit on the side. The fruit still had powder sugar on it, and there was still juice from the fruit on the plate with tiny chunks of fruit. This just indicated to me that it went back to the kitchen and was picked off rather than being remade. My bacon later came out and was burnt to black. The waiter was nice enough to take it back and have it removed from the bill. Issue doesn't really seem to be the front of house, but the back of the house. It just seems like short cuts are taken.

I love this cafe. I came here since undergrad and the food quality has not changed. There are so many events which makes this spot so fun to come with friends. I love the service and I always get the "bunny" salad.. forgot the name but it is so good! They also service alc drinks too. Will come back

My sister and I came here on a whim for a weekend lunch after walking around downtown Ann Arbor. It was great! I had the mushroom burger which was very flavorful and delicious. It was the perfect meal to warm me up on a cold day. The atmosphere was comfortable and cozy, and our server was very attentive. I'd like to come back and try some items from the bakery! Everything looked amazing, but I was just too full to even think about dessert

I happened upon this joint while walking one freezing cold Sun morning. I decided to hop in for brunch. It's a very hip, cool place reminiscent of Zingermans Roadhouse in many ways. The wait was an hour, but I was able to cop a spot at the bar. Staff was very timely and efficient. They provided me with a cute, complimentary dish of pretzels, lucky charms and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I love the unique offering! I started with a lavender kombucha, which was nice and light. I decided to forgo the traditional brunch options which sounded amazing, and opted for the Cobb salad. It was phenomenal. The buttermilk dressing was very unique and well balanced. Pickled onions really made all of the other components stand out. I'll definitely return to try the eggs Benedict and other yummy brunch choices.

Takeout Avocado Toast ($8) - saltier and oilier than I remember

Avalon is a good option for brunch or lunch in downtown Ann Arbor. Especially during the warmer weathers, the outdoor seating on the patio is nice (Liberty St. is blocked off from traffic). However, I'm not quite as impressed by the quality of their products as I have been in the past, especially for their baked goods. Their salads (the quinoa & farro bowl, and the brassica bowl) are generously portioned. The shakshuka ($15) is not good: watery and flavorless. On recent visits I've found the avocado toast ($8) to be overly salty and oily, and the smoked salmon toast ($14) is on the salty side for me as well; however, some of their other toast or brunch options may be better. For bread and pastries, there are better options elsewhere in Ann Arbor: Bird Dog Baking and White Lotus Farms for bread; White Lotus Farms for croissants; and for other pastries, I think there are better versions at Crust (at Argus Farm Stop), Zingerman's, and various farmers market vendors, depending on the particular pastry. I do think that Avalon is a good place to get a relaxing meal and catch up with friends, so I'd definitely come here for that for or for a study spot---I'd just keep in mind that the food isn't the main reason to come here.

Love Avalon so much and have written reviews of many of their locations! So happy that they have a location in Ann Arbor as well with both a quick grab/to-go side of the establishment with the pastry display case and ordering counter and a sit-down side as well where you can properly dine-in and do a delicious brunch with friends and family! The avocado toast will always be my absolute FAVORITE thing here and is pretty much my go-to because I have never had a better avocado toast! All their pastries are delectable, they have so many options for both my gluten-free friends and vegan friends as well, which we love to see! Avalon is wonderful and located just off of Main Street in Ann Arbor as well, right on Liberty, so it's in a prime location! Stay here forever - thank you!!!

Anytime we travel I try to find a spot to enjoy brunch, my favorite meal. Avalon Cafe and Kitchen took reservations online which was a huge bonus. Nate and I ended up being nearby earlier than our reservation time, but the super friendly and kind host got us seated right away since it wasn't very busy yet. We sat outside and waited for a server to come by. And waited... and waited some more. Finally I went back in to ask for some water and to see what was up, and the host immediately sent out a server after being surprised that no one had greeted us yet. I was pretty hungry but once we had a server, everything went off without a hitch. She was very kind and polite and on top of water refills, etc. I liked that the menu was a nice mix of healthier options, including vegetarian and vegan choices, as well as some heartier dishes. I ordered the breakfast quesadilla and Nate got the frittata sandwich. Each came with a choice of fries or dressed farm greens, so we opted for one side of each. I ended up with a bit of both - not sure how or why, but I wasn't mad! I'm forever torn between ordering fries (one of my favorite foods) and being healthy, so it was perfect. The quesadilla was pretty tasty! I wanted it to have a bit more seasoning, so I asked for hot sauce. They brought a little cup of housemade carrot hot sauce, which was tasty but not really what I was going for - since it was mostly sweet notes, it didn't really bring the salt that I wanted. That's ok, I used hot sauce on my leftovers and they were great! I loved that the quesadilla came with sour cream, salsa, and guacamole. Overall this was a nice visit and despite the mix up at the beginning of our meal, we still enjoyed ourselves and would go back. I'd love to try the tasty sounding bowls next time.

    Soup and biscuit

Do better Avalon! Tiny soup (just okay but greasy) and bread, forgot the butter and spoon but threw in 3 sets of forks and knives. Worst ever biscuit, tastes like chemicals, with jam and butter. Total with tax, tip, and 3% surcharge $20

Had a great breakfast experience here today. Staff was super friendly and helpful for us out-of-towners visiting Ann Arbor. The place is fairly large already, but they had additional seating outside as the street was closed for outdoor dining. We had some boozy coffee drinks and for entrees the breakfast quesadilla & the avocado toast. All were excellent, though if I'm gonna be nit-picky about something the avocado toast could use some salt or everything seasoning or something. Bacon was cooked to perfection. Portion sizes and pricing were spot on. As an added bonus, they have a small cafe/bakery up front. We bought some fresh bread and cookies to go, and both were equally as delicious as our meal!!! Highly recommend.

Throughout the pandemic we've been ordering delivery from Avalon and it's been perfect. That burger? THAT. BURGER. Still truly delicious and and my favorite thing on the menu. Today we popped in to grab some carryout for lunch and I found my new favorite, the bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Served on toasted dark bread with a little agile? Scrumptious! I also got a seasonal beverage, the grasshopper cold brew and it was probably my only complaint as I thought it could have used a little more mint but otherwise everything was amazing, as expected. Can't wait to return for a dine in experience soon!

Got here around 9 and had no wait. They had outdoor street seating but we choose to go inside. It was pretty quiet but picked up right away. The server was quick to greet us and cheerful. The coffee and latte took a while to come out but were pretty good. The Macha latte was delish and they had a dairy free option. Their turkey BLT was delicious and the bread was so good, soft but with a great toasted crunch. My husband got the blueberry quinoa pancakes with a side of sausage and said it was delicious. They did have mimosas, bloody Mary's and other alcohol options but it was a touch early for us to start. I would defiantly come back for more lattes. They had togo drinks, coffees, and bakery items as well.

I saw an ad for a Grain Latte (mi-su-ga-ru) and was so curious how it would taste. I haven't noticed it anywhere else (other Korean bakeries), so had to make a trip just for the drink, along with their other goodies. Omg, from the first sip, I was transported back to my childhood. I used to drink the multigrain drink that would come in powder form. But this drink was elevated by the espresso. What a perfect combo! Now this latte isn't sweet, so if you are looking for sweet, this won't be the drink for you. I had my hubs try it out and said he could taste espresso with an aftertaste of the grains- not something he would order, himself. But I'm definitely going to! He ordered the pistachio latte and I could tell it's very different from other ps's I've had from Monday Coffee Club or from Yemeni coffee houses. It definitely has that light, Korean, nutty taste that isn't strong. The baked goodie, I'm happy to say, has expanded and they offer so much more than they did since my last review. They've added a few nice tables and chairs, so you don't have to leave to enjoy your pastries or coffee, unless there's no spots. Highly recommend Y if you enjoy desserts that's not too sweet.

Yoon's was bread and bun heavy and their prices overall were higher (if you can believe it!). I did try this Cloud cake $6.50 that was out of this world good but the strawberry jam part was too sweet. The hazelnut cream sandwich loaf (3 small servings) was so beans good with my favorite type of cream that only Asian bakeries can get right! My only complaint is more cream, please!
