The parking lot is tiny, and I was miffed on my latest trip (on a weekday morning, no less) that it was full, meaning I had to park in a nearby neighborhood. The cinnamon rolls are worth it, and this latest trip had me going for a yuzu lemon meringue bar, which struck the perfect balance of not too sweet, but also not a bland flavorless hellscape, which a lot of "not too sweet" dessert can fall into. Rather tempted to make the trip and get one again before they go away for the year. I will note that loaf cakes, like the apple cake and the olive oil cake, were a bit disappointing--dry, and in the former case, lacking in apples. read more

This place was recommended by my wife's Cantonese group. Located right where Huron pky splits into Jackson and Dexter Ave sitting in a small shopping mall behind a gas station. The place is small yet quaint. There is some outside seating as well. We tried their OG breakfast sandwich and was very impressed. The toasted sesame bun was outstanding the sausage patty is not your typical sausage patty made fresh and spiced well. The egg has what looks like scallions and spices overall a really good sandwich for $9. Their coconut Ube milk bun was outstanding really enjoyed the coconut filling in the middle. The chili crisp scone was good but would have liked to taste more of the chili crisp. My wife tried their Champaign tea which she liked but did not blow her away. That said my wife is quite the tea connoisseur so it takes a little more to impress her when it comes to tea. All n all a great little spot will definitely come back again to try more of their baked goods. My husband and I went on a Saturday morning and were blown away by the experience- specifically the breakfast sandwiches. The pork patty sandwich was so flavorful and satisfying. The egg focaccia sandwich was creamy and the bread so savory but light! All the pastries that we got were incredibly flavorful but my favorite was the chili crisp scone. Went in around noon on a Saturday. The place was almost empty. I purchased a drink from the three dollar shelf and it turned out being $5.50. My sister got one of the last sesame Rice Krispies which was...sweet. Hard to do much special with a RK. I tried to give Q a chance and came here on three separate occasions in the last year, and came away disappointed. When I heard there was a Chinese bakery in Ann Arbor I was super excited and was hoping for one similar to what you will find in Madison Heights (QQ Bakery or Tai Pan Bakery). The bakery in Ann Arbor I go to the most is Yoon's Bakery, which is Korean. I wanted to see another Asian bakery competitor. However, Q is very small and has a limited selection. It is also quite expensive and the pastries are okay but nothing that warrants $6-8 per pastry. I'm still waiting for another Chinese bakery that will give all other places a run for their money. Unfortunately, with the high rents in Ann Arbor, it will be difficult to open a larger Chinese bakery with reasonable prices. read more

Came here for brunch since Q has Sunday hours. My mom was visiting and we were driving back from Chicago so this was the perfect place to pick up breakfast, coffee and matcha. I frequent Q anytime I can. Their rotating menu and pastry offerings never disappoint. They update their social media profiles so customers can know what they have on special. They have indoor and outdoor seating and share a parking lot with a salon. The front part of their space has a cooler and a shelf of Asian grocery items and various coffee offerings. The back part is where they make their coffee. There is a unisex bathroom as well. The staff are always smiling, polite, professional and willing to answer any questions. I am at Q Bakehouse entirely too often and I'm not mad about it. I can walk here from work but I usually stop in for the lunch specials on Friday and Saturday as well as the Sunday Brunch specials. Rachel and team are always cranking out new unique goodies so I always leave with at least 5-6 items and a coffee. You really can't go wrong but if it's your first time - definitely get one of the chiffon roll slices, chili crisp scone, a mochi bite and a cookie!!! The roll, mochi, cookie flavors rotate weekly so you're bound to have something delish and unique! They do do a good job keeping their website updated so you can check out what's on deck before you head over. BG, Hawa, Matt are usually the friendly faces I see in the morning. And they always are so calm and collected even when the line is out the door. Since opening, more seating and tables have been added so you can eat there. No wifi yet though! read more

What a treasure this little bake shop is!! I love all the unique baked good and treats available here and also love the constantly changing menu. My latest obsession is their milk tea masa tres leches cake! Such an amazing combination of flavors and so decadent. Don't sleep on the coffee either! Strider coffee have some great drinks and are very knowledgeable and discerning about their bean selections. Despite how busy they can get, staff are always super welcoming and friendly. To say how close I live to Q's new storefront would giveaway where I live but let's just say it's an easy stroll over. The space had been empty for quite a bit and I was SO excited when I saw on IG that that's where they had landed. I watched the buildout with much excitement and as soon they opened I stopped in and literally got one of everything plus a latte from their coffee partner Strider. Not surprisingly, everything was excellent! I got and took home their Chinese 5 spice cinnamon roll, a slice of the blood orange loaf, a chocolate chip sesame caramel cookie, a brown butter miso sesame cookie, a chili garlic chive milk bun, a pineapple milk bun, and a banana coconut tart. And my very very very favorite--the chili crisp scone! The offerings here rotate regularly and every time I've been since that first visit has introduced me to at least 60% new offerings like their breakfast galette, another new fave. They've also been whipping up lunch specials on Fridays and Saturdays which you can see if you follow them on IG. So far those have all looked amazing, too, but I unfortunately haven't made it to try that yet. Fulfilling the "market" part of their name are a few small, but mighty, shelves of imported pantry goods as well as two coolers filled with not just imported goods but also their own offerings like bags of housemade dumplings and jars of chili crisp. While grabbing coffee with my friend yesterday afternoon, he casually mentioned that an Asian American-inspired bakery called Q Bakehouse & Market had opened within the past year or so, so I knew I had to check it out while I was in town. The parking lot is small, but we managed to snag the last spot just as someone else was leaving. The interior is small with very few seats, but it's cozy. Q shares a space with Strider Coffee Stop, which offers coffee beans from various coffee roasters, including ILSE Coffee from Connecticut and Archetype from Nebraska. They also have a standard selection of drinks like black coffee, lattes, and matchas. Overall, it's a great concept to have both in the same space, as coffee and pastries are the perfect complement to each other. By the time we arrived around 1:15 PM, more than half of the baked goods were sold out. Fortunately, I was still able to purchase a couple pastries. HONEY SESAME BUN - 5.50 The honey sesame bun is quite large, with plenty of sesame seeds on top. Its swirl-like shape made it easy to tear apart. While there wasn't much honey flavor, the bun was more of a standard bread than a sweet pastry. Still, it was quite enjoyable with black coffee. BUTTER MOCHI - 4 The texture of the butter mochi was impeccable, with a deliciously buttery sweet flavor that paired well with coffee. It's not too dense either! I'd definitely get this again. I hear Q Bakehouse is known for their CHILI CRISP SCONE. I didn't try it this time, but I'll make sure to give them a go next time. read more

Stopped by yesterday after a friend recommended I try it given my love for Asian-inspired baked goods. We arrived mid morning and the place was packed. Tiny, but so cute with the layout and seating. My goal was to snag an Ube mochi, but alas, this goal was not to be realized. It was already sold out But, there were still options available. Everything looked delicious, so we decided to get one of each. Overall, I'm giving this place a 5/5. However, I definitely have some favorites and given we went overboard with the ordering, I have yet to try everything. Chili crisp scone 5/5-warm, comforting, and excellent texture Breakfast galette 4/5-good, but because we had the scone right before it, it didn't have the same impact Pineapple bun 4.5/5- yummy and subtle in flavor. Wanted just a tad bit more pineapple flavor Yuzu pomegranate chiffon cake 4.5/5- light, creamy, yuzu yummy, pomegranate was nice but wanted it to have more of a pop Lemon yuzu tart 5.5/5-probably my most favorite out of everything. Perfection with that tartness of the yuzu and lemon, the tart itself was so pleasing--texture was just right with a nice ratio to the filling, aesthetically beautiful, delicious! Black sesame swirl loaf cake 2.5/5- unfortunately my least favorite. We did not try it until later in the evening and I'm wondering if that was part of the issue. It was very dry by then. I'm wondering if this is something to eat right after ordering instead of waiting until later? Maybe it would have been more moist if we had eaten it earlier. Smelled delicious but just didn't have the same pow like the others. Mochi cake 4/5-great texture, subtle flavor, very nice London fog 4/5- good and nice quality, but I think I was wanting a stronger flavor all around. Ate way too many baked goods so haven't had a chance to try the pandan crinkle cookie, vegan chocolate sesame cake, or brown butter miso sesame cookie. I have a feeling they will all be delicious. Q Bakehouse & Market is exactly what Ann Arbor needs! A gorgeous Asian, female-owned establishment (and Michigan alum!) filled with so much love and creativity. All the baked goods are so unique and innovative, blending savory and sweet together, Asian ingredients with Western ones, and so much more! Q offers a whole range of pastries - from milk buns to cookies - and desserts like their unique renditions on tiramisu (matcha-misu anyone?!) and tarts! They also have a small corner of the store set up for Strider Coffee to make beverages and the matcha I ordered from them was also so divine! It's the perfect pairing to have a bakehouse and coffee shop operating out of the same brick and mortar! The market side of Q is a whole wall of shelves and fridge/freezers that contain so many pantry staples, treats, dry goods, and cookbooks for Asian cooking, along with having frozen dumplings, buns, and other classic Asian food staples in the fridges and freezers! When I was talking to Rachel, owner of Q, about how intentionally stocked the market side of her business was, she mentioned to me that most items were also directly a product of Taiwan and as fellow Taiwanese American, I appreciated this intentionality so much! Rachel is doing great work here and it is so wonderful to see the community supporting her and showing up for her through it all! Definitely check out Q Bakehouse & Market if you haven't already. It's located on the west side of AA, just down Huron road a bit from campus and is always going to be worth a trip! I will be stopping by here every time I'm in the Ann Arbor area and I highly recommend that you go earlier in the day rather than later, as they do tend to sell out! But I know they have been working super hard to keep up with demand and are getting more and more ahead of it all as the weeks go by, so selling out will be less of an issue as we go forward! There is limited seating inside as well, with about 3 small tables and a few high-top counter seats along the front window or pastry counter. It'd be such a lovely place to work out of, if you are able to snag a seat! Otherwise, grab and go might be the move here! Ok have to do an update since they just soft opened this week and now I've officially been to the brick & mortar store. Phenomenal. It was tough trying to narrow down what I was going to get today and I had to remind myself that I can come back whenever I want haha. Ended up getting: - Breakfast Galette was DELICIOUS; not sure what the meat filling/layer was but it was so good and unlike any other breakfast savory pastry I've had before - Everything Bun with a Scallion Cream Cheese filling; dare I say it was... everything - Matcha/Black Sesame cookie; haven't tried yet but am excited! - Brown Butter Sesame Miso cookie; tried last week with my crowdfunding supporter pick up and it was SO GOOD so I was excited to get another one (and share with my husband this time since my last one disappeared - in my belly - before I had the chance to share ooooops) Love the assortment of fresh baked goods, sweet and savory, as well as pantry items and cookbooks, and a fridge/freezer with handmade dumplings, sauces, and drinks. Absolutely love this local gem! It's such a welcome addition to the neighborhood -- exactly the kind of spot we needed. What sets it apart for me is the variety of savory baked goods, which are often hard to find. Everything I've tried has been delicious, but the breakfast galette is hands-down my favorite. Additional plug for my favorite latte in Ann Arbor: Strider's vanilla ube which is served here :) The service is always fantastic -- warm, friendly, and impressively quick, even when they're busy. We've also had the chance to enjoy their weekend brunch, and it was just as wonderful. You can tell there's real care put into both the food and the overall experience. Highly recommend! I am now waking up on Saturday mornings craving Q's chili crunch scone. It's a blessing and a curse. Ok maybe it's just awesome. They have amazing baked goods and coffee. The chili crunch scone is amazing. I've also tried the veggie galletre and the wagyu/kimchi bun. Next on my list is the lemon tarte I've seen photos of here. Everything has been amazing. And we're at Q Bakehouse again, with the dining area finally reopened after a tumultuous month where they had to mostly shut down. And with the reopening, brought fusion brunch! Biscuit + Gravy ($14) - Woah, this is a really unique biscuit and gravy dish. They take their delicious chili crisp scones, but make the dough into a round biscuit shape instead, and then dollop on ladles full of some of the most delicious sausage gravy you can find. It's perfectly seasoned with a taste that's distinctly different from a traditional breakfast sausage gravy thanks to the inclusion of Chinese sausage. On the side are three thin triangles of what are essentially green onion and tomato frittata. They're fluffy, tender and delicious. And of course also covered with that delicious gravy. Some sweet and crunchy fried shallots grace the top to add texture, and other garnishes include green onion and sesame which contribute allium and nutty notes. Thin swirls of chili crisp add pockets of extra flavor. These are some of the best biscuits and gravy I've had, and certainly the best fusion biscuits and gravy. (5/5) Sticky Pork Rice Bowl ($12) - I wasn't originally going to get this dish since it didn't seem that interesting, but as soon as I took my first bite, I knew I had made the right choice. This dish consists of perfectly cooked short grain rice, tender but with each grain individually discernible (although not quite as distinct as a well cooked Koshihikari). The taste of five spice powder mixed with a bit of a spicy chili crisp drizzle, pepper, and other spices meld together with everything else to create a delectable dish. On first glance, I originally mistook the pork scooped on top to be ground pork but instead of being ground/chopped like usual, it's very tender shredded pork belly. The meat seems to be slowly cooked, rendering out all the fat and creating a certain fluffiness that doesn't clump up. They are very generous with the portion size of meat - in fact, there is more meat than rice in the bowl. On the side are woodear mushrooms that are quite heavily seasoned with five spice, and some nice crunchy quick-pickled-like cucumbers. An egg is split in half to reveal a jammy yolk to complete the dish. The chef masterminding this dish melds all of the flavors to create a delicious flavorful symphony on your palate. (5/5) Ube Rice Krispy ($3.50) - Think about how much better a fresh, homemade rice crispy is compared to the store-bought, prepackaged one. Now think about how a homemade one could be even better. Well, this is the manifestation of that deliciousness! A great sweet, salty, earthy combination. Not quite "not too sweet" but well balanced. Crunchy with great ube flavor throughout. Be careful with this one - the marshmallow fluff that settles on the bottom of the piece will stick and meld into the paper bag that they place this into! I recommend immediately removing and eating it before that happens! (5/5) I'm already planning another trip here as Q Bakehouse always seems to have new items to try, depending on what is seasonably available. I can't wait to see what the owner comes up with next! Q is an adorable little storefront with excellent pastries on Ann Arbor's west side. I've never been disappointed with an order here, and I've tried everything from miso browned butter cookies to hot dog milk bread buns. But the undeniable star of the show are their chili crisp scones, which I can inhale in under a minute. I love that their menu has so much variety and that they're experimenting with more lunch menu items, which I haven't been able to try yet. But I'll always take an excuse to go back to Q! read more

The tarts were beautiful and it tasted nice, but it was not worth $30 to me. I wish I had read the description of the products more carefully to note the size. The tarts look like the photos on the website but those photos were close up and not showing scale. Be aware of what you're buying, especially if you are doing so online. Lesson learned :( read more

Came for Sunday brunch and they had lion's head meatballs and loaganma mushroom biscuits and gravy so we had to try both. They were both delicious dishes with lots of complex flavors. Both dishes had a good level of spice for my liking. Portion sizes were reasonable for the price, and we will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu. Of note, seating inside is pretty limited and most of the savory items on the menu have some spicy component (chili crisp, chili oil, etc). read more

Q Bakehouse was wonderful. It's a small space but they actually pack a lot of seating inside and outside - there is a lot of natural sunlight and it's very clean. I enjoyed looking at the selection of curated groceries that they have available inside. The staff were super friendly and efficient. The food and coffee was amazing. The olive oil cake was a moist sponge and the sliced nectarine on the top was fresh - the best part was the whipped cream on top - DIVINE. The coffee was fresh and had really nice flavor. We also got 2 chili crisp scones (wonderful), vegetarian breakfast galette (so flaky and yummy), and a matcha mochi bite (really interesting flavor and texture, loved it). Overall the food here is well made with quality ingredients - the flavors are unique and really tasty. The price point is very competitive as well with the other bakeries nearby (Tous Les Jours) and I think better quality. We live nearby so it's really nice to walk to for a weekend treat. read more
