This is the worst place to miss when you're no longer a local- because you'll find yourself driving an hour and a half at the crack of dawn to get a cinnamon raisin bagel with walnut raisin cream cheese. And 6 more bagels for the road....and a large iced coffee (that's perfectly sweet!!) Avalon does an outstanding job every single time I visit, it's the best bagel you'll find in South Jersey and especially at shore points. They've done a great job during the pandemic of implementing distancing and enforcing take-out only options by removing chairs and benches. Please keep up the good work! I punctured the valance on the front of my car on a re-bar sticking out of the concrete stop in front of Avalon Coffee. I found out the owner of Avalon coffee owns a strip mall, I called and reported the incident. I was concerned that if somebody tripped and fell they would become impaled and punctured the same as my valance. When I came back the next day to talk to the owner, someone had pounded the hazard into the concrete stop, which to me admits guilt. When confronted the owner denied there was an issue. When I produced a photo he was very rude and arrogant. I was told he would not do anything about it for me to take it up with my insurance company so they could file against his insurance company. I reported the entire incident including photos, estimate, my account of the situation to my insurance company. Because the damages were not over my $500 deductible, more like $125, I am left with a bitter taste in my mouth, coincidently bitter like coffee. Needless to say, haven't been back to Avalon Coffee, nor will it ever return! read more

Breakfast was good. I got the egg platter with bacon for 8.95 and my wife got a bagel with pork roll, egg and cheese for 5.50. The thing that pushed me over the edge was the $0.75 charge for butter on my toast...huh?? 5 pads of butter. I like the quick service and atmosphere but don't charge fees for condiments. That's poor taste. Unsure if I'll be bring my extended family back since that stuff produces a negative experience. read more

I try to be understanding and we keep giving Avalon Coffee another shot! We are a business right on Route 47 so we are local! We ordered breakfast sandwiches on 8/22/20 and we were told 1/2 hour so I went over around 45 minutes later. I waited in line and told it would be right up. I waited another 10 minutes and finally walked up the the register and they said either it was never made or another person took it after I paid for it over the phone!! Bagels are good. I live two blocks away and we go at least a dozen times per summer. And it's a running joke with my family. 1) by 10am they will run out of salt bagels. 2) 80% of the time they will get one of the orders wrong. I am a local and like to frequent local businesses. I enjoy the bagels although they are a far cry from a NYC bagel - they are adequate. I tried a turkey sandwich on a croissant the other day and it was absolutely horrible. I was shocked to look at my receipt and discover the sandwich was $7.95 and an additional $.90 for the croissant. WTH??? I've looked at the menu they sent in the mail to all local residents and it doesn't say extra charge for croissants anywhere. OK i let that slide. The croissant was inedible as it was floury/doughy salty tasting. The turkey was tasteless. If this place is going to charge these kinds of high prices they should be putting out quality food. The person that called herself the manager that waited on me was totally rude. She let another customer butt in front of me as i was trying to order and then didn't put my entire order in the bag. When i got home and called her on the phone i was told that they were short handed and she didn't have anyone to deliver the rest of my order. I'm still trying to figure out how that was my problem. I had to go back to the store to pick up the food. She would not make me another sandwich as requested unless i paid for another....she said "o no, this is not how we're going to play this". And proceeded to open the register and give me back my money. If she was in fact the manager she must of been absent the day they trained in customer service or for that matter she was obviously raised with no manners or common decency. This is the second time I've stopped in to this place and it was just as enjoyable as the first. I had the egg, bacon, sausage bagel on my first visit and it was made to order with fresh ingredients. The second experience was a dine in experience. I had the triple decker Turkey club. Their oven roasted turkey is superb and bacon was cooked to perfection, it was so big I couldn't even finish the entire meal. Great food and a very rare price. Friendly staff and a very clean environment. all in all I give this place an A+ read more

Wawa is closed for a month, I needed my smoothie fix, and it was either here or green street, went with Avalon because it was cheaper...maybe that was the mistake...But ive had smoothies from Avalon before and they were fine. I went with the Banana Nut. I did not want whip cream, but I did not think the lack of whip cream would leave about an inch and a half of space in the top of the already small cup. Okay ill deal, But then I tasted it. The walnuts put in were old. You can immediately taste when a nut is old, it has that old person attic taste. And on top of that it was oddly sweet, like it had to much of something. But the walnut taste I could not get past, after about 10 sips it went in the trash. And I am not one to throw away anything even if I don't like it. I hope this was a fluke, or a untrained person. But ill wait till Wawa opens back up to get my smoothies. If an employee reads this replace those walnuts. read more

I'm embarrassed to admit that I actually stayed and ate. As we entered, they had a cold, dried up pizza on a table in the middle of the store. They were offering slices to try. No one to oversee it, just plates for anyone to have at it. Now, on a normal day that looked horrible, let alone during a pandemic. What was that thought process? As I stood at the counter, I looked down and saw a used rubber glove in front of the deli case, like I was in a grocery store parking lot!? I informed the girl behind the counter and she thanked me. Yet, it was of no urgency to clean up the nastiness I stood next to. Understand, there were six employees that I saw and we were the only customers inside at that time and one of the them seemed like the owner or manager. Not a good look. The food was prepared quickly and correctly. Thank goodness the individuals that prepared out food had their masks on correctly. Only 3 out of 6 of the employees wore their masks correctly, the manager/owner not being one of them!? Again not a good look! Yes, at this point, we should have walked out, ugh! We took our food outside to eat at one of the tables. Most of them hadn't been wiped so, we found the best one we could. Our sandwiches were very good. When we finished, we went to throw our trash away in the outside receptacles. The trash and recycling cans we're over flowing! Nothing more would fit. I had to place it on a ledge close to the cans. Again, not a good look! Six employees standing around and none of these things were taken care of? In normal times this look is sloppy and disgusting. During a pandemic, when you're try to retain as much business as you can and keep a clean and hygienic space for your paying customers. Totally unexceptable! If I could give this place zero stars I would! I went into their store to order a bagel with vegetable cream cheese. Upon my first bite I suddenly heard a loud crack when I bit down. I immediately spit it out and was shocked to find little tiny black rocks in the cream cheese!!! It was literally so loud and hard that I almost thought my tooth broke(tooth is still hurting btw). This is when it gets even worse. I went to complain to the staff and she called a manager right away. This short bald guy came over and I explained to him what happened and even showed him the little tiny black rocks/coal pieces. First he proceeded to ask me if I wanted to have my order remade. Are you serious??? I don't want to eat here again. Then he proceeded to tell me that it was pieces of burnt onion!!! Really??? This is clearly not any type of food and def no burnt onions!! It was shards of rocks!! They couldn't really give me a straight answer as to what it was. I have never in my life had this happen and the response from management was pathetic.
