We just got our shutters so I can speak the experience of having new ones that work perfectly and look fabulous. Room darkening was important to us and these do a very good job of blocking out the light when completely pushed up. Privacy but not blocking out the light during the day is also something these shutters achieve brilliantly! *the ordering process was a breeze. Home Depot coordinated a job site visit with an Avalon specialist. Together we went over all the specs choosing different options like inside vs outside of jamb mount, louvre size, even the exact shade of white. It was fun! *our order was built and delivered right on schedule, and installed as part of the purchase price. Love that they are a quality all wood (not composite) product. My wife and I both love our new shutters, but the only thing preventing me from giving Avalon Shutters a 5 Star review would be the first installation team and the scheduling department for their lack of communication and planning. We'll give Mike Gonzales a 5 Star review for actually having to come back twice for an additional quote, and for answering all our questions and being so professional. On the day the installers came out (Saturday), they installed all the shutters except for one kitchen sink window. They were missing the frame for that window, so they couldn't finish the work order completely. They didn't check that all the materials were loaded. They apologized for the mishap, and advised me that the scheduling department would contact me first thing Monday morning, and have someone come back within a few days to install the remaining shutters. Monday came and passed (no call), so I called Tuesday afternoon, and spoke with a young lady in the scheduling department who told me the missing frame would have to be rebuilt, it would only take 2 days max to build it, and I would get a call by Thursday or Friday to schedule my appointment. Thursday, Friday, and even the following Monday passed....and yet no call. I had to call Mike Gonzales back on the following Tuesday to advise him that his co-workers were making him look bad. He said he would call his company to fix the issue. I finally got a call back, that afternoon from the scheduling department, but I was told there were no available installation appointments for at least another week. Another week passed, and a new set of installers came out, put in the remaining shutters for the kitchen sink window in less than 30 minutes. I can understand scheduling may be a little complex, but when a company makes a mistake, a customer expects them to do everything in their power to prioritize and fix the error, and not place them in the back of the line with everyone else. We really want to get the two windows in our bedroom done as well, but we are a little hesitant. read more

tl;dr; As others have found, Avalon shutters will fall apart and Avalon will not respect their warranty. Detailed story and photos follow. In March of 2013 I ordered three sliding doors with 4 panels each. Installers came out and installed the shutters. During the installation they caused damage to my walls. The overall assembly was very unstable/rickety and would move whenever a shutter was opened. Additionally, of the 12 panels, 3 of the panels' shutters wouldn't open without a great deal of force. I mentioned this to Jose (the installer) and he asked that I email Avalon. I sent pictures to Avalon (attached). At a later date, Melissa at Avalon sent additional installers to address the issues. Over the next 6 months, staples started to fall out the shutters. See the attached photos. In September of 2013 I moved out-of-state due to work, and rented my place. After a couple of years I noticed that the shutters had continued to degrade. In October of 2018 I spoke to Miranda at Avalon and reported that staples were falling out. Miranda said that the staples do fall out over time and it's the policy of the Avalon to send replacement staples to the customer. I explained to Miranda that I'm no longer local and asked that they send out a crew to install the staples. Miranda said they would do so but it would cost $150. I asked Miranda if the warranty covers the crew coming out and she said the warranty only covers sending the staples to the customer. I sent Miranda a picture (attached) showing the extent of the number of staples that have fallen out. So many had fallen out the vertical lever that controls the shutters had become detached. I conveyed to her that the product is clearly defective as staples keep falling out. Faced with this, Miranda's story changed. Because the lever had become detached, the repair was not covered by the warranty because the shutters were "misused". I explained to her that there was no misuse. Staples continue to fall out, and as a consequence, they are no longer able to secure the lever. The staples are clearly weak and defective. At this point I was transferred to Nancy. Nancy's story was different. She said the repair wasn't covered by the warranty due to normal wear-and-tear. I noted that staples falling out was a clear indicator of a defective product not normal wear-and-tear. Her story changed. Now the repair wasn't covered because I had renters. She stated that the warranty does not cover renters because renters are "very hard" on shutters. I told her I have great renters who have taken wonderful care of my place. I noted that staples have been falling out consistently over the years. A clear product defect. Nancy fired back with another story change: "It's your fault!" She said I should have reported the staples falling out as soon as possible, and because I did not, the repair would not be covered under the warranty. At this point I asked for a copy of the warranty to be emailed to me. I told her I would stay on the phone while she emails me the warranty. She said that was not possible as she was away from her desk (which seems dubious). She assured me she would mail me the warranty. I left her my email address and phone number. As of yet, I have not received the warranty. Later, I called back and asked to speak to Nancy to discuss the complaint I was preparing for the Better Business Bureau, Home Depot, and Yelp. I firmly believe a company should have an opportunity to address issues before they are made public. Additionally, I wanted to remind her to send me a copy of the warranty. I was told Nancy was unavailable. In summary, the warranty from Avalon is a non-existent. The shutters degrade over time, in particular, the cheap staples fall out. Avalon makes a big deal about their warranty and in-part justifies their shutters' huge cost due to the piece-of-mind their warranty supposedly provides. We bought Avalon shutters in June 2019 specifically for the durability and warranty. A few months ago we noticed paint cracking on the shutters associated with 2 windows. We live in a coastal area, however, never leave windows open if it's raining or foggy. We contacted Avalon shutters about this and only after multiple emails and calls over a several week span did anyone come out to look at the shutters. Now after 5 weeks we get an email from Doreen G stating our warranty does not cover humidity. My warm to you is buyer beware. Nice shutters but they don't stand behind their product. Did NOT get what both my husband and I thoroughly described we wanted to the Avalon Shutters In-Home Sales Consultant, Silvanna Smith. Avalon is the provider Home Depot's uses. In good faith, we placed an order for 3 1/2 inch faux wood Plantation Shutters for 2 windows. The total cost came to just under $1,300, which we were asked to pay in-full, up-front, by Silvanna. Since we had Plantation Shutters installed in our previous home, we knew exactly how we wanted them configured and communicated that directly to Silvanna BEFORE she wrote up our order (that the panel on the center left folds over the panel to the left, and the panel on the center right folds over the panel to the right, essentially framing the window). We trusted that Silvanna was experienced and knowledgeable and knew how to write up the order for the product she was selling so the customer would get exactly what they wanted and paid for. I even questioned her as to whether the refrigerator to the left and the air handler to the right of the window, would have enough clearance. Nothing Silvanna said nor showed us while she was here or quickly reviewing our order led us to believe that she hadn't understood exactly what we wanted and expected. The configuration we specified allows the option of the shutters being fully open to allow more light in and a full view of the back yard, the option of privacy when the 4 panels are closed and the slats slightly open, and the option of room darkening when fully closed. The configuration we asked for also allows that the desk we had in front of that window, be put back there without the risk of someone hitting their head when the 2 center panels are open and sticking out into the room! To our dismay, and despite our thoroughness, Silvanna did not place our order as my husband and I both clearly specified. Not safe, nor what we paid almost $1,300 for! We trusted that Silvanna had listened and written our order up as requested. Silvanna gave us no indication that she was confused or didn't understand exactly what we wanted. She even commented that it was good that we wanted "faux wood" as the configuration my husband and I described to her was only available in faux wood, due to the weight! Funny thing, Avalon's installer told us the exact opposite - that the "wood" shutters were lighter than "faux wood" and only wood shutters can be configured to fold over. Silvanna's supervisor said that she would "talk to her", but that Avalon couldn't do anything for us because we should have caught Silvanna's error. The tech who came out to get the "exact" measurements, whom Silvanna informed us was coming only to get "exact" measurements that we would have to sign off on, did not review how the shutters would open. After we were essentially told "tough luck", that it was our fault their salesperson didn't order the shutters as we had thoroughly explained, we were told that if we didn't "sign" for the shutters as delivered (and, we were specifically told we were NOT allowed to write that the shutters were "NOT WHAT WE ORDERED" - basically we had to lie and say we were happy with what we were stuck with), the installer would remove the shutter they already installed (thus risking damage to something the Avalon supervisor clearly stated they had no intention of replacing with the shutters we thoroughly described we wanted to their sales person, and leave with it and the one that had not yet been installed). So essentially, we would have spent almost $1,300 for NOTHING, have no window coverings, and be forced to take Avalon to small claims court if we refused to accept the shutters "as is", just to get what we ordered and paid for!!! That being said, the shutters look nice and aren't horrible quality - our issue is that they are NOT CONFIGURED as we specifically requested! Bottom line - it's fair to expect exactly what we asked and paid for and not be forced to sue or accept anything less. read more

Had a great experience with Avalon. I found them through Home Depot...I figured that would be a good way to get a quality product for a fair price. Avalon got the contract. I was able to set up a free visit from a sales person, Brian, who came to the house, measured everything, brought some samples so i could see different options and quoted me a price. He even helped me secure great financing through Home Depot. Days later another guy came out to take more precise measurements. Then in less than three weeks the shutters were installed professionally, and they're awesome. Quality wood shutters (and matching synthetic moisture-resistant shutters above the kitchen sink) with magnets for easy closing, easy to operate and they look magnificent. And, the coma y even followed up with a call after the installation to make sure I didn't have any issues. The whole experience was pleasant and easy throughout, and the timeline was unbelievably short. I had read that these things can take months to get made, but i had my new shutters in the blink of an eye. Brian was accessible by text or phone any time i had questions or needed anything, and he even sent a thank you card with a Starbucks gift card. How cool is that? WHat's also terrific is that the shutters come with a lifetime guarantee, and is even transferrable if i ever decided to sell my house. I have to first say that I received and had my shutters installed prior to COVID life but now that I'm home 24/7, I can truly appreciate the value they bring to my home. I am extremely disappointed and would not recommend Avalon shutters to anyone. Not only are their products defective they do not honor their warranty. I recently had my shutters installed and within less than a year the paint started cracking and peeling off and one of the panels came off the hook. I reported it to them as they had said they have a "lifetime warranty" but they have not resolved my issue and continue to say they are looking into it. Looking into what? if you haven't even came to "evaluate my shutters" this company is a ripoff. What I am most upset about is how they use their "lifetime warranty" as a selling point!! I haven't rec my shutters yet this review is for the ethics of the company representative. I set up an appointment for and estimate through Home Depot. Everything went well with the appointment until I was asked for the payment. We all know that shutters are terribly expensive and I know most companies give you payment options. When I was quoted the price and asked about a deposit The representative told me they don't take deposits that everything has to be paid in full. So imagine the look on my face when I look at my paperwork and see the box where a deposit could be left. Yes I know I should have looked it over more throughly asked more questions which I usually do. I was going to make a purchase regardless but to say the only option was to pay in full or use your Home Depot card is suspect. what major buisness doesn't take a deposit? especially if production on the item isn't done until 3 weeks out. I knew that he was full of it. yea You want to make sure you get the sale but the way it's being done is highly unethical. You offer 3 types of shutters but the classic one which I'm sure is the cheapest option " is not available", no deposit?, and I had to give him cash to take over to the store? which I wasn't really comfortable with and could've done myself if I had known. Please make sure you read everything and ask all questions. We ordered shutters for 3 windows and a door on May 2nd. I was promised them in 4-6 weeks. At 6 weeks, they said another week, after that week went by, they said another week. After 10 weeks of waiting, I started calling them, they didn't return my calls. Finally got a hold of someone, I started raising hell. Presto, my shutters are magically ready and they want to install the next day.(July 3, 2014) yesterday. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is 1 star for the service, 5 stars for the shutters. Avalon was very attentive in the beginning because they are trying to get your business. Then once you sign the contract the contact and care drop down to a sub par level. First, their teams arrives over 2hrs late, then you find out that they forgot two of your shutters so they try to reschedule for another week! We did not put up any blinds/curtains waiting for the shutters to arrive. Then late shutters arrived damaged. When I tried contacting their team, I a pushed off by email and that someone would be contacting me, 2 months later, still no response. Hopefully they up their customer service one day, but I would not recommend, and I hear they overcharge. Please consider seeing other companies value for what you are going to pay. read more

Out of curiosity, I went to my local store and got a brochure. Avalon shutters was the company Home Depot uses. Avalon Shutters might have been a good company a few years ago based on old reviews, but that has changed dramatically! DO NOT USE them. There is basically no warranty, they misrepresent that they have any warranty. We purchased shutters from them and they literally broke within 5 days. I was so upset I emailed the owner, who sent it to Nancy, their "Operations" person and she lied and refused to fix the ruined shutters. I am still trying to resolve this issue as they so graciously (sarcasm) offer to replace them for cost and 8 weeks without shutters. This is literally after 5 days and paying for what we thought was an investment, over $2,000 for two windows. Total ripoff!! DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! read more

I bought $4000 worth of shutters from Avalon seven months ago. The installation and everything went fine my problem is the faulty product. I have the new look shutters not the classic and one of my shutters cracked at the plastic pivot point. My wife called to let them know about the faulty slat and they said it is not their product but we need to pay an additional $125 to repair since the slat looked to them (via emailed photo) to be a result of us damaging slat or we aggressively opened our shutters. I will never buy from them again or add additional shutters to my home unless they right this wrong and give us a new slat at no additional cost. At that point I would gladly delete this negative review as well read more
