Needed to get an M3 diagnosed for some weird clicking noise coming from the wheels (when turning). Within minutes after popping the hood, he not only listened to the noise, but was able to narrow it down the suspension. Most ppl like myself (although I'm not a mechanic) would assume it was either the wheel rubbing or an axle going bad, but Kevin knew it was something else. We left the vehicle with him for several hours and after inspecting the vehicle from underneath, he found numerous loose bolts that could've potentially been a disaster if left alone. Turns out the last shop didn't torque everything to spec when installing the aftermarket suspension. We immediately felt comfortable with Kevin and just knew that Avante Garde was an honest shop. We have been using Avant-Garde for all our family's vehicles for several years now, including: - BMW's, - Audi's, - Mercedes' and - Honda's. This has included a wide range of services performed, from the simple to to the complex, so far including things such as: - Oil & filter changes, - Brakes, - Mechanical (bushings, suspension, etc.). - Engine diagnostics, - Interior fixes (minivan 3rd-row not latching down properly), - Air-conditioner compressor replacements (2 so far, different cars), - Timing-belt replacement, - Replace broken transmission with a rebuilt. To date, we have found all their services very competitive - certainly compared to the respective dealership service departments. Took in a 2014 Porsche 911 for a PPI, and was very disappointed with the PPI. All I received at the end of the PPI was an invoice and a picture of a code they found by running a scan tool. They didn't even notice that the brakes and rotors were worn, and a couple buttons in the center console did not work ( I was able to find these 2 problems when I did my initial test drive at the dealer in 15 mins). Me not being informed about the brakes is very disappointing and does not inspire confidence... makes me wonder what else was overlooked. From my perspective, I think all they do is hook up a scan tool and see if there are any codes and maybe they look for leaks too...but hard to tell since there is no formal inspection report given showing what was inspected and what the condition of the inspected items are. The last time I got a PPI from a different shop in Northern California for a BMW that cost half as much of a Porsche, I got a detailed report which included how many mm were left on the brake pads, suspension condition, and the list goes on. Following a visit to Ontario BMW, I was advised that I had a gasket leak, to which suggestion I acknowledged due to the smelling of smoke at idle. However and to no surprise, they produced a Xmas list of other suggested repairs - engine mount, differential bushings, control arm bushings, stab bar link, etc. I opted to forgo the recommended service as it's ubiquitously known that car dealership service departments are dishonest and will pick your wallet when you're not looking. Having moved to Chino, CA with my wife three years ago from LA County, coupled with my being unfamiliar with the area and to whom to take my BMW, I evaluated Yelp for guidance. I came upon Avant-Garde Automotive and was quite impressed with the overwhelming positive reviews. I decided to take my BMW to Kevin H (Owner). He was attentive and eager to evaluate my vehicle for said issues. He courteously even drove me back home following my vehicle drop-off. Within hours I was informed that I did not need all of the recommended work, except repair for the gasket leak (gasket/cover). While my vehicle was present, I opted for a Liqui Moly engine flush, brake fluid flush, radiator flush, and oil change with a topping off of Liqui Moly Ceratec. Kevin appears to be an honest, upstanding, and highly proficient mechanic, and only suggests repair work that is absolutely required - unlike other mechanics who try to take advantage of your ignorance. They have gone way beyond what any shop would ever dream of such as lending me their personal vehicle while my car was being service so I can go to work. Also, Dropping off and picking up my vehicle from home for no additional charge. Who does that? The pricing is honest and they warranty their service. Anytime I call asking for an appointment its always exactly when I ask. I never have to wait or be told they are too busy. This is the best all around automotive service experience I have encountered. The Mercedes' dealership does even offer this much service while they charge 3 times price. We took our vehicle in for new car pre inspection. Prior to bring it in I've spoken to the owner who happens to be their technician that there's a check engine light on and if they could find out reason that it's on. Fast forward, the car were being inspected and owner came back to me and advices me that to not purchase the vehicle due to the engine light and that there's a big problem to the engine but can't tell me what the codes are for. He doesn't even know what the DTC codes are for but he told me that there's a 'big problem' to the engine ! WTF ? He said they will have to do a thorough diagnose to find what the codes means. Mind you that I was clear from the get go that I need them to check what's causing the engine light is on prior to bringing the car in for the pre inspections. Basically he tells me that there's a 'big problem' to the engine and do not buy the car from not even knowing what the codes are for. And check this out, he was trying to make that clear to me while screaming on top of his lungs. I told him that how do you know that there's a 'big problem' to the engine if YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE CODES ARE FOR - you idiot. Then he said that there will be extra cost to find exactly what's wrong with the car. He said that I came there not for the engine light but for pre inspection. Remember, I've clearly asked him over the phone to find out exactly what's the engine light code was for and he agreed over the phone. Then he changed the whole scenario after the car is in his shop just to get more money from me. I told him I'm good then took the car to another shop. The new shop that I found is from the enthusiast forum and have so much good reference so I took it there. Check this out, they diagnosed the check engine light in a matter of 5-10 min and told me that it's just the thermostat. $160 parts and labor.They also reset the other codes that were there and they all went away. The cost for that diagnosed was ... listen to this guys - FREE !! (Because I did the thermostat replacement with them) After it was all done car ran like a champ. No codes. No problems. All was done in one day turn around. Amazing ! This Avant Garde Shop is baloney. The owner told me that there's a 'big problem' to the engine and he said don't buy the car. And that they have to charge me more to check the engine light. Guys do me a favor.... DO NOT TRUST and GO TO THIS AVANT GARDE ! You have been warned. All these other positive reviews on here for them are probably fake. The only good thing about this place is the woman in front desk who are their receptionist. She is very polite and kind. The 1 star is for her. I respect her more than the owner and the other idiot technician. I purchased my car and now it's running like a brand new car. Brand new thermostat. No other codes. No 'big engine problem'. The shop that I took it to is in Costa Mesa. They are honest and so much better than this Avant Garde shop. Trust me. Don't go here. You all have been warned ! read more

The owner, Kevin, is the most conscientious, honest and most knowledgeable mechanic our family has ever known.
