Holy crap. These guys are literally amazing. Try to make a long story short. Called John yesterday literally 5 mins before closing to ask about a battery issue I was having. He made a suggestion that literally 6 other mechanics didn't suggest and that it was possibly a parasitic draw. He offered to diagnose it but I decided to wait a bit because I have to travel. Fast forward to this morning when I spoke with Mark. I was calling to ask him how long a diagnostic for a parasitic draw would be and he actually made an additional suggestion that my Battery could just be a bad cell. He provided sort of a preliminary thing I can do in the meantime and that was to get a new battery and see if it's still drawing. This morning I called AAA and I found out that yes- I had a bad cell, and to make matters worse it was the wrong battery that they installed 2 years ago! Mark and John just saved me a shit ton of time and headache which I was stressing over for a while. That alone and the suggestions make me confident that these mechanics are insanely trustworthy, And just want to do the right thing. They are now my new mechanic anytime I need anything. I've been to New Era Automotive a few times (first time earlier this year 2022) and John has been so great with my car (2011 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV). Cars aren't my specialty and have lost faith in the dealership providing good service. I always say, let the professionals handle it - and New Era is that! I don't work too far from the shop and John has been very accommodating to: 1) providing me with a ride back to work, 2) being flexible to take me in during his tight schedule, 3) thorough inspections on my concerns, 4) checking to see if there are other issues I'm not aware of, 5) great communication with status of vehicle and purchases of necessary parts, 6) fair prices, 7) and seriously one of the cleanest shops/waiting areas (does not feel grimey, tacky, or grungy while you wait). This one matters a lot because it makes a difference that they keep their space clean, you'll be more assured they'll take care of your car as well. I've never felt cheated or questioned the quality of my service at New Era. I trust John and his staff with my car. I have been attempting to bring value to Yelp for the common no nonsense consumer because that's who i am. When i purchase or sell brain a service from an establishment, i understand that it may cost a lot. I'm not afield to pay well for service worth it and i report it as such... i called mark from new era on a Tuesday and explained to him that i had to leave town for something and needed my vehicle diagnosed and serviced immediately, he agreed to have it ready by Wednesday 1pm. It was going to be what appeared to me as an exuberant amount of money but i figured it would be quality work. I called him Wednesday at about 11 am and advised him i was on my way when i told me the vehicle was not ready and won't be until 4pm. Look i completely understand that cars have issues and mechanics don't k is until they get under the car to see what's wrong BUT.... I pay for time meaning i understand the time constraint that's why i agreed to pay... nevertheless at 5:30 when i returned for the vehicle, it was not completed... i needed the vehicle so i asked him if it was safe to drive and he said it was so i agreed to return... the vehicle was not safe to drive and i almost got stuck in the middle of the desert in 100+ temperatures... i called John who is someone important either the owner or the GM and he said it would get done ASAP... It was not. Now i have to take the vehicle to another mechanic and make sure these idiots did the job right... 3 days, 1200 dollars and growing and completely unsatisfied... if you value my opinion do not waste your time and effort coming here.. what bothers me the most is that they make their whole industry look untrustworthy... it really is hard to find a good mechanic... i could t post this without a star so i have to give them one star ... sadly i don't even know what to do... anyway good luck everyone... read more

I came to John with a laundry list of very expensive things the car dealer told me I NEEDED to get done on my car. John was friendly, knowledgeable and upfront about the True service my car NEEDED. He serviced the breaks on my car and gave me quotes, instructions and suggestions on the other things I needed. He was patient, genuine and most importantly he explained and answered every question I had honestly! His shop and service is refreshing since 99% of other similar businesses treat women differently when it comes to cars/car service. BEWARE - Im having to sue them after their mechanic Louis L. scammed me for every dollar I had. He was hired to repair my BMW after the headgasket cracked. He was recommended by a friend who was having him work on her Audi at the shop, but he insisted on doing this work at my home. I paid him over $3K up front. It was a con job from day one. He gave me photoshopped receipt from an expensive part he claimed to have ordered. I found the un-doctored listing on eBay - it was used and half the price (turns out he never bought it at all.). He sent me a fake photo of the part, supposedly being installed on my car - but I found this same photo used on BMW blogs across the web. When I confronted him, he first tried to gaslight me, and then resorted to threats of nonspecific violence. (The friend who recommended him was mortified and cut all contact after he tried to incriminate her in his shady dealings.) This guy belongs in prison, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. read more

Finding good mechanics is always a struggle but when I lived in Ontario, I really lucked out with New Era Automotive. I was treated well, fairly, never felt ripped off or lied to which unfortunately is all too common with car companies. Exceptional service. Very honest. Haven't met anyone like John, very knowledgeable. helpful, polite and friendly guy. Trust me, I've been to so many places. Very reasonable price, you pay half here what you would normally pay to the dealer and with most of the other mechanics. And then you pay extra for some of their dishonesty. But this is not the case here. Brought my my wife's Mini Cooper and my FJ Cruiser, they charge me a dime to tell me what was wrong with it (thanks to Dave), later I brought her lexus and told me what was wrong with it thru detail diagnostic, and the best part was it cost me only $20. I would give 6 stars if I could. So my check system light came on in my Lexus. Called 3 mechanics who all had good reviews on Yelp. One wanted to charge me $70 to just take a look at the car and the other wanted to charge me $40 to check the car and that would go towards whatever reparis needed. New Era quoted me $20-30 for a diagnostics check over the phone and that would go towards fixing the issue. Turns out everything was a simple fix and since they didn't have to do as much work as they initially thought, they charged me less. I can tell the owner John is a good guy and very honest. They won't try to sell you on things you don't need here. Any possible scenarios are told to you ahead of time and they will give you suggestions on what to do and why and you make the choice. I like the way they do business here and I will be coming here from now on for all my mechanically needs. read more

Wow. This place is amazing. John is incredible and so is David! My wife and I want to go bring them cookies after such a pleasant experience. We took our car to an different auto shop after it overheated. They fixed the radiator because the cap was blown. However, after that, they said the car was still overheating and quoted us at $2700 more to fix everything else (including a supposedly blown head gasket). At this point, those repairs would have cost more than the car is worth. That's when we called John at New Era. He said he was pretty sure he could save us about $1000 just from hearing what was wrong over the phone. So we very carefully drove the car (making sure it didn't overheat) to his shop. John was so friendly and immediately starting looking at what was wrong with the car. A day later he called and told us what he had found: a melted circuit underneath the fans. This was the root of the problem and had caused one of the fans to go out. He fixed the circuitry and replaced the fan for $500! So... bottom line: John saved us over $2200 on repairs that did not need to be done. He actually takes the time to diagnose the problem and then finds the best solution to put you back on the road. He is very good at communication. He actually found out that the other auto shop had replaced one of the coolant lines incorrectly and it was causing a kink in the system. He took pictures for me and was very thorough in showing me under the hood everything that was wrong. These guys are genuinely excited about the work they do. They take pride it in. Since I'm in the market for a new mechanic, (my previous one of 20+ years moved out of the area), of course I took to my fellow yelpers for some direction! The reviews are what brought me here, but I found there is so much more than that here to keep me coming back. From the moment I called and spoke to John for a price quote on oil changes for my Dodge Journey and Honda Accord, I knew this place was going to be different. John was honest and patient with all of my questions, including my questioning their somewhat higher cost. (I'm ok with paying more if there's a logical reason, which there was.) When I got there for my oil change, the place was super clean and had a GREAT waiting area set up! Chris was at the front desk and greeted me with a great smile and made me feel like I'd been coming there forever, even though it was only my first time. There was comfy furniture, a large flat screen tv mounted up on the wall and a Keurig coffee maker set up for customers to make themselves some of the complementary k-cup options. While they were working on my car, they kept me informed and made recommendations but in no way tried to over sell me on anything I didn't need. They checked all of the fluids, used quality products and even gave me some information about things they found that I'd need to keep an eye on in the future to help keep my car running healthy. On a side note, these guys are so honest that they came in to hand me some money that they found next to my car in the driveway that I had accidentally dropped out of my pocket when I was walking in. If I could, I would give John and New Era Automotive all the stars in the world! A few weeks ago I was driving from Phoenix to LA. As I was exiting the 10 to get some gas, I heard a loud noise and then my car would not move. It sounded awful. I searched on Yelp for the the best mechanic I could find. Thankfully, New Era Automotive showed up. I had AAA tow it to New Era Automotive. The tow truck driver that AAA sent really encouraged me to take it to a different shop. He told me that my transmission was out. I stood my ground and asked him to take the car to New Era. John was seriously my angel. He called me and told me that it was just my axle and he quoted me a price to fix it. He fixed it that day and the final price was even less than he quoted me. I can not recommend John and his shop more. He is so honest and kind and I am so grateful I found them when I needed them. If I lived in LA, they would definitely be my mechanic. I have a new mechanic! I've never been to an autoshop that told me "this didn't take nearly as long as we thought it would, so it's going to be less" when asked about the cost. The initial quote was several hundred dollars below what the dealer diagnosed and the final bill was about $150 cheaper than the initial quote. Am I happy with that? Oh yes! First off, I want to say that I live in West Los Angeles, so I do not know John personally. This is a REAL review. I found him using Yelp! JOHN IS AMAZING!!!! He greeted me by asking if I would like some Keurig coffee. Then he asked if I would like him to turn on the heater for me. Talk about EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I ended up at New Era Automotive after my starter broke. I got stranded in Ontario. I live in West LA, so I didn't know anyone in this area. Thanks to YELP, I found John. He gave me a quote over the phone for a new starter (parts and labor) for $250-$300. My mechanic told me I should expect to pay up to $300, so John's quote was very reasonable. After I got my car towed to his shop, his final price was $240 total (parts, labor, tax). No offense, but it's rare these days to find an honest mechanic, so I was impressed that his final price was LESS than what he had quoted me. However, like any mechanic, he was able to find additional problems wrong with my car. He found that I had a leak in my radiator. I called my mechanic and he told me that I shouldn't pay more than $200. I was quoted $315. 2/3 of the $315 quote was due to labor, which was quoted at $95/hour. In my opinion, that is really steep. In the end, my Also, his place is incredibly clean and quiet. The waiting area has two very comfortable couches and a nice flat screen TV. His restroom was also well maintained. I think this is by far the cleanest auto shop that I've visited, seriously. read more

I know another 5 star review adds nothing to this great business but I have something more to say. Era Automotive is a DIY friendly place. This guy, John, is a real friend to DIYers. Like other DIYers, I like taking care of my car and prefer doing it myself. But, sometimes, we don't have special tools that need big investment or we have to obey the laws, as in case of A/C maintenance. I got a bad leak on my A/C compressor. It would be a huge cost for replacing it although it's not a difficult job to do. I emailed John, arranged an appointment, bought a new compressor, then I came for CFC recovered, drove home, change the compressor myself, and got back for charging. All done in one after noon, save me around 300$. Great! I don't know whether other mechanics would do so, and do it happily like John. He even helped me out through the phone when I had a hard time reusing the manifold. I definitely love the way he write it invoice, it likes a surgery report, clear and precise, with detailed billing to penny. I appreciate that transparency. I feel secure when consider doing some fix to my car, I have a trusted back up. read more

My second visit to New Era automotive. This time to take care of an indicator light issue on my 2005 xB. I must say I'm very pleased with the overall outcome. John helped me out and after diagnosing the problem and giving me an estimate I gave the green light to get started on the job. About a day later, I got in touch with John for an update and it turned out that something unexpected occurred where the original estimate was more than a little off, around half of where it should be. Now, this is where these guys are better than all of the mechanics I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Instead if saying, "oh well, you're gonna have to pay this new amount, sorry..." John said that he would try to meet me near the original estimate. Gotta say I wasn't disappointed! Thank you John for your honesty and great customer service. This is hands down the best automotive repair shop that I have ever been to. John was very friendly and was able to clearly and concisely explain to me what was going on with my vehicle. The quoted wait time for the services that I received was as promised and the pricing was very fair. I greatly appreciated the fact that John was very honest, trust worthy and extremely knowledgeable. The waiting are is very nice and comfortable, nothing like any other auto repair shop I've ever been in. It was a very hot day outside and all of the staff went above and beyond to accommodate me while I waited for the work to be completed on my vehicle. I was provided with cold bottled water upon arrival and shortly after I arrived an ice cream truck came by and Chris asked if I'd like anything and ran out to get me a Tweety Bird popsicle. These guys are a breath of fresh air when it comes to auto mechanics. I can't even begin to tell you how many mechanics I have been to throughout my years of car ownership, but this place ranks up on the top of the list. I brought in a 2010 VW Touareg TDI. It's a complex car, and not many people really know how to work on them. I just needed a basic service, but also had them check a few other things while I had it in the shop. John was very familiar with the car, and was extremely helpful in explaining some of the mechanical designs of the vehicle. I was supposed to drop off my car and get a ride back to the office, but my ride flaked, so I ended up stuck at the shop. I flipped open my laptop and decided to just work from the lobby (the lobby is very clean, by the way). John made sure I was comfortable, and had everything I needed to do my work. Since I was waiting in the lobby, the guys worked through their lunch to get me out of there as quickly as possible. Who does that anymore??? This is truly the best auto shop I've ever visited. It can be broken down into one sentence: Knowledgeable, honest mechanics. One morning my car started ticking (I was pretty sure the crocodile from Peter Pan was after me) so I stopped in. I told them my car model and let them know about the ticking, and they immediately correctly diagnosed it (just from the description) as the Blend Door Actuator. I had no idea what that was and it sounded important, but they assured me that it really only allowed me to switch between the heater and air conditioning. I opted not to get it fixed because a heater really isn't that important in California and I was a broke college student. I tried to give them money but they refused, saying that the diagnosis was on the house. I was thoroughly impressed and went back the next week to get my oil changed, which was prompt and affordable. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be using them whenever my car needs maintenance. read more

As we all know its difficult to find a good throe honest mechanic. These guys truly are the best at what they do!! Clean, organized, Knowledgeable, very friendly & HONEST!! Found these guys through my brother, had an over heating problem on my 98 Toyota Tacoma. Water and oil mixed :( knowing this will be a costly fix. After speaking with John and seeing how clean and organized there shop was gained my trust quickly. He explained all that will need to be done and what they may encounter when they get in there. Of course I have been to New Era since my last review but I wanted to give continued praise for such a well done job. Both of my vehicles are aging and it's very important that they stay in good repair. I can't afford new vehicles at this time and John always makes sure I am safe on the road. This review is long overdue, but I must say John, Zago, and staff are the most honest and friendliest individuals you will come to meet inside and outside of the automotive industry. If you want honest answers and very satisfactory work, New Era is the place for you. John saved me from a $1800 repair at the "Stealer"-ship for what they claimed to be a Blown Head Gasket and after speaking with John about this, he diagnosed my car and the problem was just a bad radiator cap and wear and tear from my radiator (which needs to be replace eventually).
