This review is a bit odd in the fact that I didn't take advantage of Avatar Relocation's moving services but still feel compelled to provide a review. (I live in a geographic area outside of their prime coverage area) I recently moved and had some questions about verifying the exact weight of my shipment. So I jumped online, went on Google in search of someone from the moving industry who could shed some insight into how to handle my situation. I found a blog post that addressed the exact question I had and was really impressed with the depth of knowledge evidenced in the post. A phone number was included in the writer's byline, so I took a chance and called to see if I could tap into his experience. I connected with Chris Noblit and shared my situation with him. The best way to describe the experience is in an analogy: it was like suffering from a mysterious ailment and going to see a highly experienced doctor who zeroed in with great questions and in ten minutes had a solution - in my case I had a plan to deal with the weight discrepancies in my mover's invoices. So, my takeaways were: 1. Here's an experienced moving pro willing to take a call from someone who isn't a client and devising a way to solve my problem. 2. He shed light on the "foggy areas" in moving that other movers steer clear of. 3. He led me to resources I didn't have to help me effectively communicate my requirements to my moving company. 4. He offered his time at any point in the future if I needed help with a moving question or issue. 5. I'm not a client, most likely won't ever be a client due to my geographic location and here he is spending time to help me. 6. It makes me wonder, if he's doing this for me - what the heck do his clients get? 7. It must be a low stress, satisfying and totally efficient experience working with Avatar on a move. If you're moving into or out of New York, you'd be missing out on a dead solid moving experience if you didn't use these guys. P.S. I've moved six times in the last 20 years and have experienced all manner of moving companies - mostly mediocre at best. I highly recommend Chris N. And his exceptional company for your next move. During the process of preparing to move from Long Island to Florida I interviewed 6 moving companies. I read every review, called some companies multiple times to question their policies and how their process would work. I called Avatar movers last as I became frustrated at how sleazy all the other movers made me feel. Well that feeling ended when I met with Chris Noblit at my home to get an estimated quote. He was very professional, honest and upfront about the whole process. His policies on downpayment and final payment were the best I could find. I also was able to put the whole cost on my credit card which was fantastic and safe. Chris gave an estimated weight based on what he saw at our home and I couldn't believe that he was accurate within a few pounds. Amazing! On moving day the most polite, hardworking crew arrived and my wife and I immediately knew we had made the right choice. They took care of every detail and were gentle and caring with our stuff. Danny the driver was excellent and gave us his cell number. He told us we could call him at any time and get informed about when we could expect him to arrive. I also need to point out that Avatar is not the cheapest, nor the most expensive. Their price was right in the middle. They have the fairest policy on weight charges and it's all very upfront, fair and honest. I was surprised at all of the hidden fees and tricks other movers employ and felt safe using Avatar. I was looking for a moving company to move me from New York to Pennsylvania and Avatar came in the cheapest with their "guaranteed" price. I hired them. Getting my home into the truck was not a problem, the crew they sent was professional in every way. However, the call I received informing me that they made a "mistake" with the weight and needed to charge me another $900 was a problem. Then on delivery day, I got a different crew who showed up with the WORST attitude I have ever dealt with. They blamed me for buying a home that my stuff wouldn't fit up the stairs, they couldn't figure out how to fix the doors on my wall units that they flipped around, they got blood on my furniture, all with an attitude. They brought in boxes that CLEARLY said "extremely fragile, glass" UNDER heavier boxes. They broke 2 lamps, 4 book shelves, an $80 candle holder, and my 40 inch tv, which looks like they dropped something on the corner. AND I'm finding broken glass items that were my mothers, who has passed away and cannot be replaced. After being ignored all weekend, I finally got a call from Bill, who told me to unpack everything and then let him know the extent of the damage. My mothers things CANNOT be replaced. They also dumped a box out, threw everything back in, and broke a jewelry box. IF I COULD GIVE THEM LESS THAN 1 STAR I WOULD. They also removed this review from their Facebook page. MORE THAN ONCE. DO NOT HIRE THEM. I am aware that things break during moves, but THIS?? This is unprofessional to the extreme. read more

Their teamwork and coordination of handling everything from loading boxes, furniture, special packing and loading the truck instilled a sense of calm with the knowledge that we were in the hands of seasoned professionals. Danny called us from the road and kept of informed of when he would be arriving with our stuff in Florida. The crew he had in Florida was excellent as well and in no time our household was downloaded and placed exactly where every item was earmarked to go in our new house. I got many estimates from over five moving companies for our move from Brookhaven Hamlet to Virginia. Chris Noblit of Avatar was thorough and careful as we walked through the house. He was not sales-ey at all. He was informative and transparent about how the move would go. We were concerned whether his semi-trailer would be able to make the turn into the driveway in Virginia. He said he might have to take two smaller trucks instead. Unfortunately, I ended up with another company as my wife wanted a national name company. That was a mistake. Go with the local company who owns their own trucks. I developed a friendship with Chris who continued to advise me even after I told him we wouldn't use his company. From this experience I feel confident recommending Chris's company Avatar Relocation to all my friends in New York. No slacker. No monkey business. And don't call the Florida companies. They met our dates for packing And delivering at our destinations in South Carolina Danny, the driver was a wonderful person to deal with and a true professional. If you have any questions or thoughts put them to rest it's a great company to deal with their pricing was right on the beam. any questions I had were answered , so I would put any worries to bed and make a great choice of movers with this company from New York. We used Avatar for our local move in Long Island. We were EXTREMELY pleased with them. The movers were very professional: they arrived on time, moved everything quickly and carefully. Not a single scratch on any of our furniture. They were very friendly and courteous. If we were in the hand of bad movers, our moving day could easily have turned into a nightmare. Luckily, the whole process was over in 4-5 hours. All in all, it was a pleasant experience, and we will remember that day with fond memories. We had to postpone our moving date a couple of times due to external reasons (renovations, bad weather etc), and Chris was kind enough to agree to move us on the date we prefered. Avatar's estimate was much lower than other companies, too! The final cost was more or less the same as the estimate. i wouldnt recommend this company to my worst nightmare! oh wait they are my worst nightmare! ok so it wasn't enough that this crappy moving company broke 4 bookshelves, 2 lamps and a huge candleholder, but they apparently either dropped or put something heavy on my tv... i'm opening boxes that has broken glasses and candleholders that belonged to my mother...irreplaceable items....does that box obviously read extremely fragile???? i did not pack this way nor did i break my bracelet box...avatar relocation services. motherfuckers lost a bag of sheets and towels and a bag with my bras and underwear!!!! do not use them!!!! i dont even know if i have all my stuff or what else is broken!!!! and to add insult to injury still waiting for a call back and they took my review down on their facebook page! i even put pictures up of the damage! read more

I was very disappointed with Avatar's services. I recently moved and put all of my items in storage for five months while renovating my new home. The move and storage cost me in excess of $5,000. After delivery I noticed that I was missing thousands of dollars worth of items (knives, clothing, linens...). I contacted Avatar (recommended by Atlas Van Lines) and was informed that because I had not selected additional insurance they would only pay me 60 cents per each pound of lost items. They lost 3 sets of high end king size sheets and a bed skirt valued at over $1,000 and were offering me less than a $20 reimbursement. They broke my grandparents antique mirror and were offering at best a 60 cents per pound reimbursement. I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed and would never recommend using them. read more

We hired Avatar to pack and move our household goods from Long Island to Syracuse NY. Of the three movers we received quotes from, Avatar was the lowest and, once the move was complete, came in very close to the estimate. Chris Noblit was very helpful in walking us through the process and his crew did a fine job packing us up and getting the truck loaded with a minimum of fuss. On the delivery side, we hit an unexpected bump on arrival in Syracuse (the floors had not been completely finished by the specified date) and Avatar was very helpful in arranging a delayed delivery so that the work could be completed.
