Small family run restaurant down the street from the Portuguese club. Quiet family friendly sitting area, hostess and waiters were pleasant and friendly. Food was delicious and well prepared, recommend the octopus and the short ribs. Parking is limited but easy to find on the street. Definitely will be returning

I love this place, it's truly my home away from home for food. I come in either with a group or Hans solo and I get treated like royalty. Not much more I can ask for honestly! I highly recommend!

Everything we ordered was delicious, fresh and authentic. My husband and I shared a Clams Bolhão Pato as an appetizer. It was excellent. I ordered the shrimp angola as a main course and asked that it not be spicy. It wasn't spicy. It was fravorful and perfectly seasoned. My husband had the Codfish Avenue style and loved it. The dessert, a Maria cookie cake, was more than delicious. It was divine. I can't wait to have it again. The staff was welcoming and attentive. I look forward to our next visit.

Enjoyed a long lunch at the Avenue Bar & Grill recently & was very happy with both the service & food. For many years my go to for Portuguese food has always been O'Manel's or SolMar in Bridgeport- particularly for their traditionally prepared fresh fish, salted cod dishes, clams & shellfish. Avenue's menu was similar. A nice little bowl of marinated black & green olives, gently seasoned by fresh rosemary & accompanied by warm out of the oven rolls got us started. My companion & I split the Portuguese style braised little neck clams with smokey chorizo sausage & a plate of slightly spicy grilled Shrimp in a garlicky sauce, then moved on to Portuguese style petite sirloin steak & egg served with delicious sliced fried potatoes & surprise - a simple rabbit stew on the bone with rice & steamed veggies. The rabbit portion was generous & meaty but a tad bit over cooked. We finished with excellent coffee, Portuguese brandy & an authentic & very rich egg custard flan in a light caramel sauce. Avenue is set up like most Connecticut Portuguese restaurants with a busy casual tavern on one side & a very nice dining room on the other. Our servers were helpful & took very good care of us through out our meal refilling our bread basket multiple times, always with a smile. I highly recommend Avenue for well turned out traditional Portuguese fare. Parking can be tight in the restaurant's small lot but limited street parking is available on an adjacent street. This street is on a steep hill.

Why aren't people talking about this place more!!! We came here with friends and both had the most delicious meal! My husband had the steak on a rock and said it melted in his mouth. The chicken marsala was so tender and the sauce and mushrooms were extremely flavorful. We had a variety of appetizers that I unfortunately did not get photos of. Each one was fabulous! We will be back for sure!

Avenue bar has amazing Portuguese food right here in Connecticut. Being close to many Portuguese communities I've had my fair share of some yummy Portuguese food, Avenue does not disappoint! Food is very good and tastes just like momma used to make, with a home cooking flair. The staff is very friendly professional and courteous, with a great ambiance both in the dining room or bar area, you always feel like family at avenue.

Very nice little restaurant in an out of the way location. The food and service are both very good, and we have eaten there several times.

Nice location and staff but spotty food…read more Came here on recommendation by a friend. Made the trek out to try some authentic Portuguese food. They were prepping for a big event when we came, so they were a bit distracted when we came in. They offered us seating at the patio or the bar and we opted for outside. Our server for the nice was very nice but clearly stretched thin. She tried to check in frequently but ended up only really dropping by a few times through the night. We get a gambit of items. The garlic steak bites, the mussels with chorizo, the picaha and get the saffron rice and salad as our sides. Food comes out quickly, along with some bread for the table. Very crunchy bread, butter was cold but easy enough to massage to make spreadable. The steak bites and mussels came out first. The mussels were cooked, but the dish was really lacking flavor. You got chicken stock, the smokiness of the chorizo, and the veggies. That's all the flavor you got though, no real seasoning and very basic flavors. It really needed salt. The steak bites were pretty good. Kind of a little open faced Philly cheesesteak crostini, but with untoasted bread. Flavors were solid but also lacking seasoning. Then we got our entree, and the thought was there but it was very much lacking. Meat was unseasoned, overcooked (probably because they threw a cooked steak onto a sizzle plate which took it right over the edge of done) but it did have a wonderful charcoal bitterness which was a welcome choice. Instead of asking for a new one (steak was tender, just well done) we asked for a sauce. They took 5 minutes to make a scratch sauce for us. A mushroom type gravy, which was the highlight of the meal. All the flavor that was missing from the other dishes brought to the forefront, with a strong emphasis on salt and acid to really pop the flavors of the meat. I really enjoyed the sauce. It showed that the kitchen can put out good food, it just was too focused on the event to put up a good showing. It was a shame, but it's good enough to try again some day. Pricing was reasonable for the quality, it's possible to get a good meal here, but your experience can vary.

A few disappointments including no clams or calamari for seafood mix or clam and sausage appetizer. The two soups were the highlight as well as our beloved chorizo. The mussels were not as flavorful as I recall although portion was ample. Overall, a predictable meal with no culinary surprises. O

This restaurant has become one of my fast favorites. The services is top notch. Karen, is far and away the best server we have had at any local restaurant. She's wildly knowledgeable about all items on the menu and is a top-notch mixologist. And while I never frequented this space prior to its renovation, I understand that the upgrade is a massive one. I can say that the dining room and bar area are clean, pleasant, and very well conceived. If you haven't been here, seriously, try this spot out. It's not bad, just not memorable. The menu changed a lot too. It's much smaller but the prices went up! So keep that in mind. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the new menu. I ordered one of the steaks and didn't realize it would come like pictured. It was tasty, but the menu lacks detail. I had a few questions about other items too. All the food we got was good! Anyways, I wish them luck! But just be aware there's a lot of changes if you haven't been in a while.

Another stop on our recent exploration of Parkville…read more This is a spotlessly clean, entertaining bar with restaurant tables (and a pool table, too) that's somewhat brightly lit, but attractive (in a bar kinda way) and all about quality and value. We were greeted with a huge smile by an attractive, efficient bartender. Our draught domestics were served in frosted mugs -- and were only $2 apiece! We'd planned on some suds as part of our neighborhood exploration, but asked for menus because we saw a lot of folks at table enjoying some awesome-looking plates. All we had was a plate of incredible cheese (served in tiny 1/2 inch cubes, complete with picks) and "prosciutto." The meat was indeed a kind of prosciutto, but was served in 1/3 inch cubes, and set next to the cheese. The rosy, fatty, delicious hunks of meat were chewy but very good, also. Perfect for nibbling with beer. The "prosciutto and cheese" combo appetizer was $9.50. A shrimp appetizer, served in a seafood-forward, complex garlic sauce was only $7.95. The shrimp were pristine, sweet, and fresh -- and barely cooked. Perfection! We offered to pay for bread as an accompaniment. They didn't charge us. The bread was fresh, delicious Portuguese dinner rolls with butter. Every single thing we were served in our brief visit was fresh, served at the correct temperature, and was absolutely delicious. We can't wait to return. Beer, hors d'oeuvres, great service: $35 with a 25% gratuity. Value like this: priceless. GO HERE.
