I have been wanting to try Ibiza for quite some time. We arrived on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet. They have a small lot in the rear and side street parking. Upon walking in we were greeted and advised that we could sit anywhere as there were many open tables. They have a mixture of high top seating, bar seating, tables and an enclosed patio overlooking Dixwell Ave. The server was nice and accommodating. I knew I wanted the shrimp ceviche. It was fresh, limy and balanced. For my main course I ordered a ribeye with mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and a creamy peppercorn sauce. Everything was good and fresh. There was quite a wait for the entrees. My friend initially wanted a paella but was advised that it would take 45 minutes. Had she know the alternative option she chose would take almost the same amount of time, she would have waited on the paella. But she enjoyed her entree. They drinks were amazing. 29 April 2026 Went here for lunch with friends. The food is extremely mediocre and expensive. Some other reviewers have noted that the portions are large. Some portions are and some are not. We had: Chicken tortilla soup ($14.00) -- tasty but very artificially flavored. Also, this is a Mexican dish, not a Spanish dish. Croquetas de Pollo (14.00) -- completely inedible: tasteless, except for salt. Very pasty. No chicken or any other flavor. Large portion, which we had to throw away. Patatas bravas ($14.00) -- Tasty. Decent portion. Regrettably, I think they use mayonnaise (rather than a garlic aioli) in their sauce, which is definitively NOT authentic. Espinacas salteada ($14.00) -- Adequate, though a little oily, and the portion was tiny. All the appetizers are completely overpriced. Each should have been maybe ~$9.00. I think that $14.00 is just the amount the owners settled on for most appetizers, regardless of ingredients or portion size. All in all, a 4 over 10. I'll never go again. read more

It has been a couple of years since we were here and were happy to learn that their menu, service and decor are still as good as our last visit. Our waiter Caesar was attentive and friendly. I stopped in to have dinner last night at this place, and I was pleasantly surprised by everything that I experienced from the staff, to the atmosphere, to the actual plates of artwork that came out! My wine selection was even something that I hadn't tried before. I just fell in love with. The staff had made some recommendations for a citrus wine off of a very nice selection of white wines they had, they have three large menus to choose from when it comes to their food selections, there alcohol menu, and then they have a specials menu. I ordered one of the specials, the shrimp and fettuccine noodle with veggies - outstanding!! Huge portions and so flavorful! And I ended my night with a coconut dessert that was just sinful! All three recommendations came from the staff and they were all five star winner selections. Ibiza recently started offering brunch, so we stopped by to check out their new menu! There was a nice variety of both American and Latin dishes to choose from. Everything was delicious! Great mimosas, eggs, steak dishes, and authentic Colombian and Costa Rican choices as well. We were even impressed by their chocolate mousse and coconut passionfruit ice cream for dessert. The restaurant was bright and inviting, with friendly staff too. What a great spot in Hamden! We'll have to come back and try their tapas sometime. read more

I do recommend this restaurant because the food is exceptional. However, the prices have become quite high in fact very high. The tapas portions, though are large, larger than tapas at other restaurants that serve served tapas. The quality and the creativity are definitely a five but, paying $14-$18 for tapas is really high. I suggest they make the portion smaller and lower those prices. I have never paid six dollars for a cup of herbal tea. When we mention that to our waiter, he just shrugged his shoulders I thought for sure they would take it off the bill, but no, they did not. Also, the bench sheet that I was supposed to sit on which I eventually did was filled with food and grit that looked like it had been there for months and months. Our waiter saw that I started to clean it with a napkin and then came over later and cleaned the bench seat at the next table . I'm certainly glad he cleaned that for the next guests, but no guests ever came that night. There were only four tables filled with people the entire time we were there. So I think fewer people go now than before because the prices have become so high. Again, I will reiterate the quality of the food is excellent. read more

I came here for lunch yesterday, the Friday of Hamden's Restaurant Week. Never been but thought, for $20 and three courses how could I go wrong. I couldn't!!! This place is amazing! First off, it's not a "sampler plate" they give you, these are full blown entree sized portions! I sat outside and was the only one there. The music wafted from the dining room and created a great atmosphere. I had the burrata, the ahi tuna, and the blueberry panna cotta. Don't know if salt and pepper is on the tables inside, but it wasn't on the patio, and for good reason. You don't need it!! Everything was perfectly seasoned! I was so impressed that I brought my husband for lunch today! Yep, two days in a row! Today, I ordered a passion fruit sangria which was light and flavorful with fresh oranges and apples. For the first course, my husband had the burrata, as I told him it was stupid good, and I got the mussels in salsa brava, then we both got the marinated pork loin. The mashed sweet potatoes were so light and fluffy and the port reduction with the figs cut into the richness of the pork. He took his rice pudding home so we split my passion fruit mousse. It was superb! Since we each just finished 1/2 of our entrees, we also ordered the marinated anchovies, the chorizo español, Arroz con pollo, and almond cake to go, for dinner, and figured we split a "combo platter" tonight. Well, we ate the anchovies-which were not salty at all, but beautifully marinaded-and the rest of the pork for dinner, so will leave the other items for lunch tomorrow. The leisurely pace of the meal was just what we wanted. A good hour for lunch, with just the right amount of time in between courses. This isn't fast food, it's to be relished and enjoyed. A true dining experience. Please support this establishment. They offer a fixed price lunch menu each day, and I wish I didn't know that as I think this is my new "go to" place. I came here on a Wednesday night during dinner hours and it was pretty empty. We got a seat right away without a reservation. The server was attentive and filled our waters right away when we needed ig. Food 3/5: We ordered the Paella Vallencia, Ceviche, Gambas al Ajillo, and a Pear dessert. When we ordered the Paella, the server confirmed for us for two servings. We didn't know two servings means a huge order which could feed 4. It was good, had good flavors and the meat wasn't over cooked. The Ceviche was ok, needed a little more salt and more lime. The Shrimp didn't really look appetizing because bathing in garlic butter sauce, the shrimp was also over cooked. Overall, the food was decent. read more

We used to go to Ibiza regularly when I worked nearby a few years ago. I was thrilled to find that everything is just as wonderful as I remembered - and the restaurant is twice as good!! We started off with the shrimp soup. It was like a chowder and very tasty! The burrata was super creamy and served atop roasted vegetables. We really enjoyed the artichokes served over arugula with vegetables. Shrimp puree with large shrimp and chips was a wonderful surprise. Our server was great. 2 stars because I have no intention of going back. The food itself was ok at best , not bad, but not worth the money and after trying all their "most popular" (waitress's words) there is nothing to go back for. Everything is small, very small. I know it's tapas but if you go to a Crave or even an Ola you get much larger portions. Also, the food just lacked flavor- where was the salt? I ordered a salt baked sea bass and there is no way any salt was used in the preparation of that dish. All very muted flavors and soggy sea bass skin. Paella for $30 was again super small, barely any meat. Not sure how anyone can charge $30 for that dish. We also got 4 other tapas- again all just lacking any sort of flavor, on stale toast, etc except for the chorizo croquettes. They were good but 3 tiny balls for $10 bucks is just not my thing. I wish I took more pictures but we were starving and inhaled everything very quickly despite the lack of flavor. Put it this way- we stopped at Taco Bell on the way home because my boyfriend was still hungry. Waitresses were really nice- can't complain about that at all. Went here for Valentine's day with a friend and the food was delicious! It was set up as a 3-course meal, and my friend and I each ordered 3 different things. I got the croquetas, the tilapia, and the creme brulee (not what they are actually called!). Each was delicious, my favorite being the creme brulee at the end! The cons: Though the restaurant was pretty empty, the service wasn't great. My friend and I were there for about 2 1/2 hours! I ordered a Sangria when we placed our initial orders and ended up never receiving it, despite reminding the waiter. The location was also very small, so we were super close to the people next to us. Thankfully, they were super nice but, if you're not a social person or like your space when eating, this is not the place for you. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for its food, but go earlier in the day or for takeout! read more

When I say the best , I mean that it's perfect for after work alone, with your friends or a special evening with your sweetie! The outdoor seating is great . The tapa specials are always delicious. I really love this restaurant - traditional tapas often have some interesting twist and are dependably delicious, the specials chosen with an eye to what's fresh, and the setting and decor are cozy. The orange flan is amazing. One of my favorite restaurants in the new haven area. Not sure what's going on with some of these other reviews. Business has clearly suffered due to Covid (and perhaps location), but I never had a mediocre meal or anything but friendly (if sometimes a bit slow) service in the numerous times I've been here. read more

We had a wonderful selection of tapas at Ibiza in Hamden last Wednesday evening! It far surpassed a meal at Barcelona a few weeks ago! We prefer Ibiza! It's acoustics are better for conversation. The food and drink selection is quite extensive. The relocation of the bar along the wall of the expanded space gives the restaurant a nicer feel. It's decor is colorful & fun and the windows are a lot cleaner than Barcelona! If you haven't been here in awhile, or have never been here, you are missing out! read more

I have been to the location in New Haven years ago and really enjoyed my meal. While visiting a friend in Hamden, this seemed convenient so we gave it a whirl. We tried a special that night, I can't remember the name, but it was a little flank steak sandwhich. My first piece was good. The second, the meat was so chewy that I couldn't bite through it. Flank steak, ok I get it but still! We went on to try the Bella Duck Confeit and while the duck was nice, the polenta was not. The pancetta was overcooked, dry and not terribly flavorful. Our third, but first to arrive item was the Cauliflower which was . .. uninspired. The cauliflower was over cooked and not evenly seasoned. Finally we had the Bananas Caramelizadas and again I was just sort of unimpressed. It just wasn't great. I love the idea of tapas b/c sharing food is fun and it's great to try a bunch of stuff, but I definitely didn't love anything that I had and felt like I wasted money. I went for dinner tonight with a friend to use a living social deal worth $50 that had expired on 11/9...lucky for me, Ibiza extended the date to 12/9 so I was not out of luck (note--the previous attempt to go for dinner in early Nov. did not happen as I arrived to find the restaurant was "closed due to a gas leak"). Tonight I called to make sure they were open before heading over. I have been once before and thought the food was really good but slightly overpriced for the portion size although I know that is the whole concept to a tapas place. I had the following three items on this visit: 1. Atún Marinado: Blue fin tuna, scallions, black olives, tomatoes, sesame oil, Crispi potato 2. Lubina a la Sal: Salt baked Mediterranean Sea bass, mushrooms, potato, carrots, raisins, pinenuts, scallions, tomato, smoke paprika and 3. Tortilla al Momento: Spanish potato omelet with aioli I thought the tuna was excellently flavored/seasoned as well as had a nice presentation. The only negative was it was on the salty side. The sea bass was also good...small piece over the described side items...all went together nicely and also had a nice presentation. The spanish potato omelete was 2 thick pieces of lightly fried potato pancake...plain and pretty boring. Each had the tiniest dollup of aioli which actually gave the potatoe some flavor (wish there had been more of it). My friend tried it and also thought it was very plain. The only positive was it filled me up as it was on the heavier side. My dining companion had the following three items: 1. Pato Comfitado con Salsa de Citricos: Bella farm duck comfit, polenta, smoked bacon, citrus sauce 2. Paquetitos de Cordero: Crispi raviolis of Houssy falls lamb, sweet potato puree and 3. Lomo de Cerdo Embuchado: Grilled and marinated Berkshire pork loin, Tetilla cheese, black olives, scallions, tomato, paprika oil, sea salt, toast She really enjoyed the lamb ravioli (2 pieces) and the pork loin, but felt her duck entree was so-so. She stated that the duck itself was adequate but the accompanying polenta was very plain and didn't go well with the duck. We shared the dessert: Bananas Caramelizadas: Caramelized bananas, vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, which we both felt was smallish (4 slices of carmelized banana with a tiny amount of caramel sauce and small scoop of vanilla ice cream. I typically dislike bananas but tried the dessert and was pleasantly surprised...it was pretty good and a nice end to the meal. We only had to pay $15 plus tip after our $50 living social deal so I was glad to not have a $64 bill to split. I wouldn't mind coming back when the menu has some new items or when I can enjoy the outside patio. Service was great though...attentive and polite. The only odd thing was the items we ordered came out one at a time and while great for those sharing, we were not and so one of us was eating while the other waited and vice versa for the entire meal. It was relatively quiet in the restaurant, about half full when we were there (between 7 and 9pm). read more

I've been jonesing to try this place for a while. Hubs and I went on a no cooking binge over the holidays and this was one of the new places we tried. On Christmas Eve no less--and it was, simply, amazing. The restaurant itself is dark, but beautiful. It's small, but still feels very open. The staff is so nice--and the service was fantastic. We ended up getting a cozy table for two by the window. And the food...oh the food...We got 8 dishes: ~Grilled pork belly ~cod fish croquettes (my god these were delish....as was the aioli) ~Spanish veal and pork meatballs ~patats bravas (the only dish that I was eh about..it's not hard to mess these up) ~Baby squid cooked in it's own ink (I was leery about this at first, hubs insisted we order it--and my GOD, one of the best things I have had in a while!) ~Duck Confit croquettes ~Crispy ravioli of veal sweetbread ~A Paella that was delish. I do not regret ordering a single dish--and enjoyed the food MUCH more than Barcelona's. It was more inventive and the presentation of each dish was just lovely. We also tried a dessert--the Chocolate and Almond croquettes. Tasty as well. We had a nice chilean wine, and sangria and port with dessert--very enjoyable. I think the only bad thing about this place is the bathroom--they are VERY narrow. I'm small and I had to turn a bit sideways. But really not something to complain about. I've enjoyed many visits to Ibiza and the food has always been excellent. My last visit was no exception. The service was very friendly and courteous. Some of my favorites here include the beet and avocado on toast (so good!!), the crispy noodles, the arugula salad, the nevat goat cheese with figs to name a few. The owner is usually at the Hamden location and he always makes sure that everyone is taken care of and enjoying the food. My only suggestion for Ignacio would be to slow down the small plates being delivered to the table. That would allow parties like ours to enjoy the excellent food without feeling rushed. If things slowed down slightly, I'd give them that extra star. Upside for the restaurant with better pacing: we won't feel hurried and we're more likely to order more food and drinks. That being said, Ibiza is an exceptional tapas restaurant that is so much better than some of the others nearby. read more

Came here again last night for the second time. We sat outside as the night was gorgeous! It was only 5:30pm so it wasn't too busy yet. We decided to order the Serrano Ham ($9)- not my first choice but hubs wanted it, it was alright. Chorizo over lentils ($8.5) very good. This was one of my favs of the night. Pork meatballs ($8) these were in a clear broth and really good! Squid Ink over Risotto which we've had before and was delish but they were out of it!! Total bummer. Tuna ($8.75) which was good but very salty. Pork Belly Sliders ($9) which were really good actually. I've had pork belly before and basically wanted to ham myself. We wanted something else which they were out of but I don't remember. I had a margarita ($8) and hub had a Dogfish Head ($4.5). Did I mention we had a Living Social. Haha. I've been meaning to come to Ibiza for a while, and I finally got to last night with a friend. It's the 6th anniversary so they had a really good special deal- 3 special tapas and dessert per person and a pitcher of sangria to share for $30 each. We sat outside, which was nice but I wish the patio was on the other side of the building because Dixwell Ave is pretty noisy. I got the mushroom rice with truffle oil, the Flatbread, and the chilled strawberry beet soup. My friend got the pork belly, chorizo, and the steak. I loved all of the items that I got. They all had really good flavor and texture, and I got pretty full off of them. The Flatbread was probably my favorite. It was mixed veggies like peppers and tomato on top of a puff pastry life bread. The veggies reminded me of the peppers that are made with italian sausage and peppers. The soup was also really good. Slightly sweet and earthy topped with some crumbled blue cheese that went really well with it. The mushroom rice was also really good. My friend liked the chorizo and the steak, but wasn't a fan of the pork belly or the purple foam that came with it. The sangria was really good, and our desserts (flan with coconut ice cream and lemon ice cream in a crispy shell) were delicious as well. I will definitely be coming back. read more
