Where's The Beef? Went to The Point Market for some lunch. We had the basic burger. We were very disappointed. The menu claims it's a 1/3 lb patty. No way! More like 1/8 lb patty..maybe. The patty was very thin, dry and over cooked. The rest of the burger was mostly bun, lettuce pickles, a little mustard and mayo for $14.99! It comes with thick cut wedge fries which were quite good, but over all it was not worth the price. It's too bad because they could have created one of the most awsome burgers in town, blowing them out the door, but decided to go cheap on the meat and rip people off! It's hard to miss this spot if you're walking along Pleasure Point, even though it's towards the end of the main path, there's always a crowd outside and people across the street eating their burritos. Such a huge menu for a very tiny corner store. This place is great...order and get your food to go or eat at the little tables out front. Surfing beach across the street if you want to sit and watch the surfers do their thing also. Split the huge Cali Burrito with my wife. Driving up to Santa Cruz to visit Uncle Chuck's house in Capitola, we decided to stop for breakfast burritos. We usually go to the one near The Boardwalk but because this one's close to the house we decided to try this spot out. Ingredient ratios weren't balanced: very potato heavy. No real flavor either, requiring a heavy dousing of salsa. Last time I had the barrel burrito and felt similarly. I'm not sure I understand the hype, if I'm being honest. I was looking forward to trying the breakfast burrito, as I'd heard great things. We arrived, and found that they only accept cash, and the ATM was broken. Not ideal. But for some reason it looks like the online ordering system does work, which was a way we could pay with card. We tried two different burritos, which were very large. The burritos themselves, however, were quite bland and soggy, and filled with mainly potato and refried beans. The tortillas also didn't taste particularly fresh, and just didn't hit for us. Additionally, there was a $2.50 extra charge due to increased price of eggs, but the burrito itself seemed to barely have any egg. I'm hoping we just came at an off day, based on the reputation! We stopped in here early in the morning for some breakfast and a sunrise on the beach and am so glad we did! The market is such an interesting place to stop in, with a wall of snacks and drinks, and they serve breakfast burritos, pastries, smoothies, Acia bowls, and coffees. We got a coffee, tea, and two breakfast burritos. Normally we are disappointed with the coffee quality at places like these but the coffee tasted really really good. I was also very impressed at their wide variety of tea selections. They had a bunch of interesting flavors that are hard to find anywhere else. As for the burritos, we ordered two small burritos and they were huge! You definitely get a good portion for the price you pay. Not to mention it was cooked to order, and tasted delicious. They had high quality tortillas, and a good ratio of eggs to the rest of the filling. Every thing tasted amazing and was well balanced, plus we got leftovers for breakfast the next morning. They weren't kidding when they said they had some of the best breakfast burritos in town. There also serve it with three different kinds of salsa which were all super fresh am yummy as well. I also love the locally owned feel here. Just in the twenty minutes we were here, we had a great conversation with some regulars and with the nice man working behind the counter. The staff was nice. The market is in older market with an insane amount of ball cap for sale but it has pretty much whatever you need. The food was pretty good for a little market. There is outside seating so you can enjoy the sound of the crashing waves, the smell of the salty air, and the beautiful warm sun. Being a lazy college student in Santa Cruz is so difficult as the food scene consistently keeps disappointing me. I ordered delivery to my apartment and was so excited to try yet again another new food spot. my delivery arrived early, and i thought my day couldn't get any worst, i ordered the boulder chips which were suppose to be the garlic Parmesan flavor that we all love. When i reached i to my bag i was confused and astounded that they gave me the classic flavor of sea salt kettle style chips in a large bag. They switched and modified my order without consulting me, and if i knew that the item was sold out i would have refunded the item. I ordered French toast on buttermilk bread and the banana pancakes with chocolate.. the French toast was the reason i decided to order food from this place, opening my plate i was clearly catfished with these measly pieces of bread covered in eggs and cinnamon. The French toast was dry, flavorless, came with no fruit, luckily i had ordered the banana pancakes and chocolate chips which gave me a glimpse of hope. My hope for both dishes was rudely interrupted by a super disgusting sour taste which made me think the food was spoiled or that there had to have been some cross contamination. The taste was unbearable and was way stronger in the pancakes. As excited as i was, my bubble was popped and gave me the reality check that i needed. It was silly of me to give an opportunity and benefit of doubt to restaurants out here. This all has me thinking maybe it's not the food, but it's me. I feel bad asking questions like, "what is wrong with me?", "why are my experiences so different?". I can't express how devastated i was.. They had tables outside which is where we were able to enjoy our burritos. I ordered the vegi breakfast burrito. $1.50 was added to the price because of the eggs inside. I had high hopes but ultimately was disappointed. Eggs didn't taste like much. All my ingredients were kind of portioned in different clumps within the burrito do one bite would be all cheese and then another all potatoes. One of my cheese was melted and others were not. My friend ordered the vegan tofu one and that one had great flavor based on the bite I tried. Others in my group enjoyed their meat breakfast burritos but for me, mine was lacking.
