    Pork Gyro Sandwich

Don't forget the little Italy area in the BX for a taste of Europe!! Hubby and I were craving gyros, our go to spot is BZ grill in Astoria (solid place) but that changed (no need to pay tolls!). We decided to visit this Greek restaurant, such a cozy yet lively area. Full of bakeries, pastry shops, restaurants, etc. Walked in, was greeted by a friendly hostess. We had seen the pork gyro pictures beforehand which looked tasty, so we ordered that. The only slight downside is that the sandwich doesn't come with fries, it's about $7/8 for it as a side alone. Food was ready in 15 mins. This is still perfect to me because of how much meat they put in it. So delicious! We quickly stopped around the corner to an Italian bakery (look at my other review) for fresh bread and crumb cake. If craving a gyro in the BX area, don't miss this place.

Easily one of my favorite places to eat in Little Italy. I've been coming to Avenue Gyro for almost 3 years and I recently started ordering their takeout on DoorDash. I was very pleased to see that their dishes hold up in delivery service as well. They're really that good! Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and amazing taste. They really are always consistent. You can't go wrong with this place! My go to is definitely the falafel. I've had it as an appetizer, platter and gyro. My partner alternates between these menu items but does the lamb and the chicken option instead. I always take a nibble of his food lol. The sauces that come with the Lamb Gyro platter and Falafel platter differ so I like trying new combinations. We also make sure to order rice with one platter and fries with another so we can share. Their appetizers such as the calamari and feta fries are also extremely tasty. While I stick to the same thing usually, I've also tried their burger when a family member ordered it so I can attest to their "non-Mediterranean" options as well. I have an occasional beer here and there but my go to is the cherry juice. In terms of the ambiance, right on the corner of Arthur avenue so not easy to miss. Super easy going and breezy atmosphere. Suitable for solo meals, dates, small groups or even large parties! (I've seen them really spruce it up for graduation parties) In the summer they open their beautiful doors to let the air in and it's just such a nice vibe. All the years I've been coming here the staff has been the same so I think that speaks volumes to the culture- it's always a good sign when people stick around! When I'm in Little Italy this is a no brainer every time. If you haven't had this yet please do yourself a favor and pop in.

The food and the prices was great. Too bad they're gone.

Beautifully appointed restaurant with a great lunch special. Just $16 for a lamb gyro with French fries. And the gyro is delicious!

Was dying for a good gyro and wasn't disappointed! Nice place, fast friendly service! Delicious lamb gyro with fried onions as requested , perfectly cooked, dressed, and wrapped! Nice way to end a perfect summer evening! Put this spot on your list when you're in Bronx Little Italy! I'll be back!

Ordered takeout from this place after reading the reviews. The falafel sandwich was good! Falafel was fresh, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It didn't fall apart and the sandwich was well filled. Even the lettuce tasted fresh and not frozen. I just wish they put the tzatziki and hot sauce. This is the only sandwich where they don't add additional sauce and not sure if it's because they are vegetarian. The fries were 3/5 stars. Not sure if they were soggy due to delivery but the feta didn't have much taste and they could've added some Mediterranean spices to the fries. Also for $8 it's a little overpriced. The service was quick since the delivery was within 1 hour of ordering. Compared to other places, it seemed healthier and I could see myself ordering either the sandwich or platter again. However, they should include hot sauce and a white sauce like other places even if the meal is vegetarian.

I came here for lunch on a beautiful afternoon and enjoyed a Lamb Gyro with my friend. we shared a hummus spread also. The place was clean and inviting. The service was great and attentive and most importantly the food was delicious. There aren't many good gyro spots on Arthur Avenue, or the even the entire Bronx so I am glad I found this Gem.

Food was a large portion with good flavors. I got the pork gyro I was surprised they didn't have lamb. My first time not seeing lamb on the menu for gyros. Service was nice. I am the only one in the restaurant right now so I can't complain about that. Menu is limited but not restricting if you want a variety. I say come and try it out I don't feel disappointed.

I ate here on a cold and rainy day and the food was just what I needed! There were 3 of us and we ordered 1 chicken gyro, 1 pork gyro and the half chicken. Wow! The portion sizes of the gyros alone is incredible, they are very big. The pork was tender which I enjoyed. The baked chicken was a good size and the chicken was cooked perfect. I didn't try the chicken gyro but it looked great. Overall, would recommend.

Çka Ka Qëllu has been on my radar for a while now. I first heard about it several years ago when…read morethey first opened in the Arthur Ave neighborhood - standing out as a traditional Albanian restaurant amongst the sea of Italian eateries. Fast forward to the present day, and they have gained considerable attention. The restaurant has made the NYT's Top 100 Restaurants in NYC list for the past 4 years, they have expanded to two (soon three) other locations, and is a favorite among the social media and celeb crowd (this is allegedly one of Dua Lipa's favorite restaurants in the city). That being said, we thought it would be a great spot to celebrate a family member's birthday - so I booked a table and off we went. Çka Ka Qëllu is located on Hughes adjacent to the back entrance of the Arthur Ave Retail Market. The restaurant is gorgeous - it's pretty spacious with three main dining rooms. The decor is a showstopper in itself - the exposed stone walls coupled with the abundance of artwork and old world accents placed throughout the dining area make this seem more like a museum than a restaurant. The ethnic music that is piped throughout the restaurant completes the feel. I honestly couldn't stop looking around. There menu is pretty expansive - most of the items I had not heard of before, but it's also approachable as they spell it out for you in the description what each dish is. We were a party of seven, so to make things easy we aligned to share everything. My brother and I decided to take lead and order items from each section. We decided to start with the ajvar, sausage dip, and tarator. These were all delicious; essentially dips, they all had great flavor and were paired with hot crusty bread mmmm. We then got a bunch of other dishes: leçenik, burek, fili, fasule with smoked meat, mantia, mazë e zier, and a shop salad. As with the dips, everything here was delicious. It's hard to pick the standouts because everything was so good - honest food, full of flavor and depth. Okay you twisted my arm - if I had to choose, my favorites were the burek and the mazë e zier. I love a good burek, and this one was top drawer. The pull on the mazë e zier was out of this world, yet it was easy to maneuver with great flavor. We ended the meal with one of their grilled dishes - namely the mixed meat combo. We chose five meats and they paired them with some vegetables and potato. At risk of sounding like a broken record - this was delicious as well. Service was awesome - everyone was welcoming and the food came out at a good pace. Overall, Çka Ka Qëllu is an absolute yes - the food, the decor, and the service were all aces. The hype is real and they deserve all the accolades they have received. Goes without saying, but I would definitely return for another meal - take me back now!

I can tell you that will never happen again because they seem to short patrons. We all ordered rice platters and everyone got decent-sized portions. My lamb kofta was abysmal. They gave me three small, dry ass pieces. Everyone else's platters were full of proteins. If they ran out of kofta they should have given something else or let my husband know. My daughter had a full piece of salmon filet, my husband received lamb and chicken mixed grill and it covered his rice portion, and my son had a full serving of lamb kebab. What they served for my order was obviously missing meat. They don't even give the actual "white" sauce - it's like a low-budget ranch and the hot sauce is probably bottled Red Hot brand. The rice was decent and there was a lot of red onion, cole slaw and tomato salad - much more than there was meat. If they're sending food to the same home, they should do a better job of ensuring that the meals are comparable. This was a terrible thing to come home to, after a long day working with patients. BTW, the wrap makes the shawarma less hefty and helps you taste the meat and sauces rather than get overwhelmed by the bread. So much more interesting a sandwich. Less hefty. More of a delicacy.
