I came here for my moms birthday this place was very family oriented and the ambiance was beautiful. I love the authenticity. The food was delicious we got a bit of everything. The customer service was excellent the sweetest servers make all the difference. They have so many options to choose from and they also serve wine and beer!! From Greek. Restaurant is cozy it was able to hold out party of 9 but definitely call ahead to be accommodated with seating they were able to squeeze us in last minute. Fantastic spot for Greek food. Worst falafel I've EVER had! I usually love falafel, but this was nothing like any falafel I've ever eaten. There was no visible trace of chickpeas at all. Rather, they were hard, fried dry balls of dough with some sort of cracked wheat inside. Completely tasteless and almost inedible. The moussaka was similarly sub par. Sorry to say that I will not return even though the service and ambiance were good. read more

Place is located in a nice area of the Bronx but there is construction outside of establishment which conficts a bit with the traffic to restaurants. Restaurant is a bit small with only about 6 tables. So I took off one star for the Ambiance of the place. The service was OK, not too bad. The server was working alone serving but definitely tried to be attentive. The food was absolutely awesome. Great salad and amazing flavors in the entrees. I was in the neighborhood yesterday and decided to try this place. Got the Greek Express Grill and Spanakopita. The Greek Express Grill was REALLY good! The chicken had good smoky char grilled flavor but was still tender. The Gyro Meat tasted very fresh and good quality. The spanakopita was also really good as well, a good mix of Feta and Spinach. Neither one overpowering. The staff was REALLY nice and everything was VERY authentic. It can be a tad pricey, but the food's taste makes up for it. read more

Just had a yearning for a falafel sandwich and stopped here to pick one up . I have taken out from here in the past but not for quite awhile - I remembered a tasty falafel- not this time . Tahini sauce was flavorless lacked the sense of cucumbers or garlic . The falafels were like leaded hockey puck hard no flavor and difficult to eat - if not for the excellent french fries my meal would have been a complete dud . Can I just say that I'm so happy and full right now? I became anxious when hubbs called to say he was on his way home and would pick up some take away from our neighborhood Greek restaurant. I was nervous because I just don't like the service or the food from the restaurant closest to our home but I was prepared to order something from them because I know he had a rough day and I just wanted him to be able to get home as soon as possible and decompress from all the worries he experienced today. While looking for the menu on Yelp, I searched Greek...and low and behold, Greek Express came up on my search list and the rating looked promising. Even better, they're located near our home as well. I quickly called hubbs and gave him the address as well as my order. First off, let me say that they must prepare foods with lightening speed because hubby got home with record timing. The food was warm, fresh and tasted oh, so good. I think we've found a new spot for our Meditteranean fix and any place that has halloumi has my heart! The Grub Rundown: Gyro Platter - ample gyro meat, choice of rice or fries and PLENTY of warm pita. Hubbs ordered this and, of course, I had a couple of bites for prosperity *wink wink* Halloumi - four grilled pieces of halloumi cheese, served with greens and lemon wedges. I liked this a lot but I'm sure it tastes way better if eaten in the restaurant, straight from the kitchen. Hummus - the color threw me off but the flavor is completely on point. They gave us so much warm pita for everything. We really wanted for nothing. Octopus - I took a chance ordering the octopus for take out from a place I've never eaten but after all of the rave reviews, I had to try it out. I'm glad I did. It was tender, well-seasoned and cooked well. Kourambiedes (Butter Almond Cookies) - very tasty and I'm glad I compromised the calories to try this dessert. Solid 4, maybe more. Spent a couple of hours roaming parts of Riverdale, really just the west Bronx, and I'd done my food research ahead of time. It looked like this was only open for takeout, but as we came upon it (lots of possibilities for lunch on Riverdale Ave!), we saw some little tables set up on the sidewalk out front. Perfect - and I'll almost always choose Greek food over other cuisines. I had the mesogiaki salad. Generous bowl of mixed greens in a lemon vinaigrette with probably at least 1/4 cup of walnuts drizzled with honey, chunks of apple, and 3 or 4 good slices of grilled halloumi cheese (that's what drew me to it!). Plus, a warm, quartered white pita. My husband chose the falafel in pita and he was very pleased! Lots of falafel, with veggies and tzatziki sauce. He ordered a side of fries - I sampled of course - very crisp and delicious! If I lived in the neighborhood I'd eat here at least once a week! read more

Extremely unpredictable. This was the size of the calamari portion we received yesterday. The previous week we received at least twice as much. When we called to ask why this happened the man was very flippant and said they had been serving this portion all day. I miss the lovely older gentleman there who used to treat everyone kindly. Small cozy restaurant in the Bronx that serves some solid food. First off, it is sometimes hard to find parking around especially with the construction going on. We finally got parking and made our way in. The restaurant only has a handful of tables but it wasn't packed for lunch so we had plenty of room. We started with the spinakopita and the zucchini croquettes. I didnt know zucchini croquettes were a greek thing but I went with it. They are served with tzatziki and were pretty good. They had a crunchy exterior and didn't taste oily even though they were fried. The spinakopita was very think and looked like it wasn't as fresh as I would expect. I know this because the dough wasn't flaky or crisp. The flavor was actually pretty good though so not the worse thing in the world. For lunch I ordered the halloumi salad since I am half cypriot and love that halloumi is popping up everywhere now. For those who dont know halloumi is a cypriot cheese that is grilled or sauteed and holds together well. It is a little salty and has a high melting point so it stays together well. The acidic dressing complimented the cheese and the freshness of the greens brought it all together. It was a quick lunch and I enjoyed it. The service was prompt with no frills. This greek food isn't stuff you would call your grandma raving about but it is solid. I like what they are doing plus they have wifi which is always a positive. Good job Greek Express! read more

I know how to press "X" on an English language keyboard, but I would have no idea how to do a "Greek X-Press." I can try and figure it out though if you want me to. In the meantime, journey up to the Bronx and try this little unassuming adorable restaurant way up in the North part not far from the very top of Manhattan and S & S Cheesecake and so on, and try one of the best Gyros in New York City. What to get: Gyro. What else: Just a city boy, born and raised in South Bronx, took a midnight train going anywhere. Would I date my Turkish ex again? No. Greek ex? Yes. My favourite Gyro in NYC (not including the real pork Gyro at BZ Grill in Queens) is at Gyro World not too far from here, also in Bronx. However their inconsistency led me to seek out other Gyros in the town, and my word, I found a very good one named "Greek Express." If you have a former lover in East Greece and another in Western Greece, then this place would be more suited to your "Greek Ex - West." As you can see from my picture, it's a cheap, saucy, hefty, delicious Gyro with perfect Gyro meat, with fresh crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes and sauce, and of course soft fluffy yummy pita bread. All of the elements of this Gyro are perfect, so while it's not as good as Gyro World when Gyro World is "on", it's consistently fantastic and I never come to the Bronx without getting a Gyro from here. The service is nice, the prices are low (I think it's under $6 for a Gyro), it's a generous portion, in other words you won't get a much better Gyro than this anywhere in the country. If your former flame from Athens is bothering you, that's "Greek Ex Stress" and if the girl you used to date from Thessaloniki left some of her clothing with you, that's your "Greek Ex's Dress." I have a few "Greek Exs" myself, and no, I didn't focus on Greek style sex with them, thank you very much. Not that I'm opposed to it. But you know. It's just not the focus. Anyway. Get a Gyro here. A pretty unassuming but pleasant atmosphere doesn't really hint at how great their food actually is. Very much family-run and everything seems to be completely handmade. Sure it's a little expensive for the area but then again, a neighborhood Greek spot has no reason to be this good. I go to school in the area and every time I come back, I love this place more and more. You are always greeted in the sweetest way by the men working inside. The gyro meat really is the perfect blend of spices. And is always so moist. The bifteki is a cool greek style burger. Have it with a side of fries. The fries here are PHENOMENAL. Weird at a Greek place, I know, but they are seasoned perfectly and always so crisp. The calamari is the best I've ever had. Light and not too heavily seasoned. The moussaka is such a comforting dish with the perfect nutmeg taste. It also comes with greek salad with a nice piece of feta and pita slices. The Mesogiaki salad is out of this world. The tart vinaigrette is perfect with the sweet apples, crunchy walnuts and salty haloumi cheese. The haloumi cheese is pan fried, crispy and addictive. Enjoy this salad! read more

We came here for an early dinner and were surprised at how tasty and fresh the food was. We started with feta cheese, pita chips and a salad. The taste of the feta cheese was scrumptious and the pita chips were freshly made. I then ordered a gyro with fries, be prepared as this is a huge meal. My partner has the moussaka which he also really enjoyed. We finished our meal with baklava and ah was this a treat. We also had coffee to finish our meal which was very strong and delicious. Greek Express is GREAT! Delicious food, excellent, friendly service, and reasonable prices. I visited GE on a Monday evening. My two companions and I split everything everything and though two of us (the adults) are hearty eaters, we all three had enough. Portions are very nicely sized! We began with the spanakopita. The filling was good. Nothing especially noteworthy, but quite good. Phyllo pastry could have been a bit more crisp and had some soggy, limp areas. We ordered the vegetarian mix platter, so we also had a nice little Greek salad to begin the meal. The dressing was light and tangy and the greens were fresh and crisp. All toppings were perfectly balanced in terms of amount and salty v. sweet. A nice little chunk of feta, a couple of Kalamata olives, a few thin sliced of red onion, chunks of cuke, and some slivers of bell pepper. Yumminess. Pita was warm and good and satisfied all palates, even that of the ever-mercurial almost-2-year-old. Entree was very, very good. There were lightly fried eggplant slices that were simply seasoned and far from greasy, as eggplant sometimes is. Falafel is crunchy on the outside, soft but not mushy on the inside, and uniquely flavored. You have not tasted falafel like this. But you should! I could eat way more of that Haloumi cheese. Amazing! Ooh, and the crown jewel- the zucchini croquettes. Wow. Sooooo good! Everything tasted even better with a dab of the tzatziki sauce on the side. Fries were good, but nothing special, as was the rice pilaf, thougn the toddler gave both a thumbs up (meaning she actually cleared her plate and repeatedly said YUMMY YUMMY!). Service is really friendly. The one guy who appears to be the owner was very kind, made small talk with us, and even gave the toddler diner a little cookie at the end of the meal, free of charge. Major brownie points there. I am happy to have a great Greek spot so nearby. I look forward to visiting Greek Express again soon. Everything was fresh, good, and the place is cute and clean. The view of this joint from the street kinda gets you questioning the name, as it seems entirely designed for dine-in (which no one was doing on my visit). The amount of time it took to get a chicken souvlaki as the sole patron also had me skeptical of the nomenclature*, as I waited while the staffers gathered around a phone at a table in the dining area with its volume blasting. Forked over $7.60 from the warm older fella (a younger guy had handed me a laminated menu after I was straining to read the handwritten one way up on the wall -- I'm tall and still found this completely impractical and a waste of their effort). Enjoyed the food, but not sure I can justify another 5-star review for the joint. *Also, the credit card minimum is the highest I've seen in a very long time -- not exactly conducive to takeout. read more
