My son and his fiancee were having their wedding in Greer. We needed someone to cater the rehearsal dinner and my first thought was Avery's. We've loved their food since they first opened, so it was no question who we would ask to do this. Liz was great to work with. She responded to phone calls and texts quickly, was extremely organized, and reasonably priced. She even came out before the event to check out where she would be setting up. The night of the rehearsal dinner, she came a bit ahead of the time I'd set up with her. She set up her table, served the guests, even helped collect plates, etc. as the guests finished their meals. She was amazing!!! We loved working with Liz, and Avery's did themselves proud. It was a wonderful experience and our guests raved about the food and service. So not a lot to do or places to eat in Springerville but Avery's is the jewel of this little town. I am a bbq snob and loved everything I've had so far from this place. Also Avery's is a bar at night with a good sized dance floor and dance lessons on Friday from 7-8 pm . I had a great time and they have a great selection of beers on draft. We were a party of 8 for lunch on Labor Day and couldn't stop talking about how great this place is! We are already planning our next stop and we live 4 hours away. If you blink, you can miss it. It's part of the gas station and inconspicuous. Our advice, DON'T miss it and order the green chile chicken mac-n-cheese. My husband and I also shared the brisket sandwich and regretted sharing. Like many people, we have driven by this place many times. On our way back from New Mexico, we decide to stay in Springerville and explore the surrounding area. We headed over to Avery's because of the great barbecue aroma coming from the place. I ordered the brisket, hot sausage and pulled chicken with the potato-salad side. It was all good but the sweet sauce. Yeah, I don't like any type of sweet barbecue sauce and that was all they had. Even the chicken was just too icky sweet. We are part-timers in Lakeside and up for the week with the much anticipated snow. I was looking for something new to try and stumbled across Avery's with a perfect 5 star rating about an hours drive away. We decided it was a perfect day to drive beautiful hwy 260 through the mountains to Springerville in the other side. Wow, we will be making this drive again and again. Avery's is located just outside town on Hwy 60 and has a service station, gift store, bbq and a bar open evenings next to that. First off we were immediately warmly greeted upon entering, reminded me of a fav bbq spot in West Texas. I got a brisket sandwich with ranch beans and coke slaw, wife got the Big Salad with single brisket. The brisket is amazing, the value just as amazing and totally worth burning gas to visit in the future. Wife's salad was huge, fresh and that brisket, oh my does it turn a salad into something any man would devour. The ranch beans were great, not quite as creamy as Texas ranch beans but very tasty. The cole slaw deserves its own discussion and you need to order it. It has pecans and they obviously put a lot of thought into something I rarely finish because most places mess it up or just make it a mess. See you again in February!! read more

I know, it looks like a gas station and maybe a small store but it a five star BBQ in disguise. An interesting note: There is a sign out side stating if your'e in a fight you'll be bared for life! Can't complain about the flavour of the Bar B Que, pretty good. For a family of four, we thought it was too expensive. Service, presentation and amount of food has a lot to be desired. A suggestion is with the Family platter, you may want to include a side or two, enough for four. If we had not ordered sides we would of just had the meat on plastic wrap, it seemed, on a tray. Maybe rolls with the meal would be helpful. Was getting extra sauce, the container was empty and spitting at me, employee watched me but did not offer me more. Got there at 7:40 and was told they were shutting down and it felt like it. I believe the last customer should be treated as well as the first. read more

Some of the best BBQ that I have had. Everything just melts in your mouth. Such a great pitstop for the whole family. Gas for your car, wonderful food for your stomach and then a convenience store to get your snacks for the rest of your road trip. Simply some of the best BBQ that you will ever get your hands on. Fantastic service, cleanliness, and atmosphere. Avery's apparently marinates and smokes their BBQ for almost 24 hours. The meat is very tender but surprisingly as long as its smoked - not too smoky as can be the case with hickory or mesquite. Avery's uses almond and oak, a unique and tasty blend not found in many other establishments. The macaroni is truly homemade, southern comfort food style; I went back for another order. All this at very fair prices, an entire family platter is $25 or so and you would pay twice this for less quality at most places. Best BBQ in the White Mountains. We stopped here for lunch after reading several positive reviews. Ordered the beef brisket sandwich with a hot sausage on top (sometimes called spiked). The beef had a wonderful smokey flavor that was not overwhelmed by the sause. Served with home made fries. We also ordered a chicken, chile mac and cheese on the side. It was tangy and tasty. Wow, Lori was right! I did not know what to order so I asked a few questions and she was spot on! The pulled chicken sandwich is to die for !! Wow, the place and the staff are real hems. Only thing wrong is I live two full days away. I found Avery's by the absolutely fabulous smell of wood smoke as I rode by and had to stop! The food came out hot and delicious. We had brisket on a most awesome sald, yummy coleslaw with pecans, the best macoroni + cheese, + BBQ chicken--even the fries were most excellent -- not run of the mill! Everything was excellent!! You can smell the BBQ from the road + your nose knows, "This is GOOD BBQ!". We were. Pleasantly surprised. From the time Avery's opened we'd drive on by w/o giving it a try. Good BBQ is hard to find & the gas station exterior didn't inspire confidence as to quality vittles. Big mistake. Everything on the menu here is well prepared & tasty. I'm always leary of ordering brisket. Fatty meat, for me, is a big EWW. Best brisket I've ever had. Love the smoked pork sandwich & same goes for the chicken. The sweet tater fries w/chipotle dipping sauce - crispy perfection. Even the regular fries are something special. Not a soggy one in the bunch. The pecan coleslaw, to my liking, is a bit bland. A newer addition to the menu are the BBQ eggrolls. Kind of like a mini crunchy brisket burrito?! We always get a double order so as to have some for the home fridge. Don't forget to snag a habanero lemonade from the ice barrel! We're so fortunate to have such a great local eatery.
