I give it three stars due to these facts. It is a cool place inside an it's has sidewalk seating. The coffee is great. Actually wonderful. The food selection is good to ok but lacking in choices. And they can't heat anything. Ok for the not so great. People bring little loud kids here. The old parents with young kids who thing it's funny to have their little ones running around. It's a like a freaking day care out front. I like kids.... That are behaved like most people. And the selection if music can make you wonder. It's like listening to a selection of a record that keeps skipping playing techno music. read more

We arrived 45 minutes before closing, but the main barista seemed emotionally done for the night. She was making final cleaning touches on the espresso equipment and told us that they were closing in 15 minutes. When we mentioned that Yelp and the door both said 45 minutes, she confirmed then said "They must have changed it without telling us." And still she wouldn't serve an espresso. The room was cute, the kombucha she did serve us was pretty yummy, and the space was very clean. But I was super disappointed that an espresso shop with almost an hour left til close wouldn't serve actual espresso. Especially when we needed it most after a long flight. When it comes to coffeeshops, it doesn't take much to win me over. I'm your typical sucker for artisan this-and-that, indie music, allergy-awareness, succulent decor and latte art. So naturally, Acre had my heart the minute I stepped in. What really sold me on this adorable hipster cafe is the "small batch chai with fresh pressed ginger." It was as if somebody asked me: what's your ideal type of chai? Then read my mind, and put it on the Acre menu. Absolute perfection! Even my mom, who is the world's biggest chai snob, perked up after her first sip and gave props. Besides crafty coffee drinks, they've got gluten free and vegan pastries (and some normal ones too). Plus, plenty of seating and a chill clientele of everyday Petalumans. I can say that because I grew up here and I know what a real Petaluman is! Super refreshing to see people reading the paper on a Saturday morning, vs. being glued to a laptop. The baristas were surprisingly friendly and accommodating. They hooked me up with a caddy for my 3 chais to-go. I was genuinely sad to leave this quaint little sippin spot. Next time, I'm here to stay. read more

This place is oozing with Mumford and sons, MacBook pros, horn rimmed glasses and vegan coffee beans flown daily from some place you have never heard of stuffed into a Ecofriendly canvas bag. Good coffee served with a huge dollop of pretension. It's beyond me how such snobbery and aloofness can be generated by an espresso machine, but that seems to be the world we live in now. Coffee isn't artistry, it's not even craft, it's just something that can be done well or not so well. Acme does it well but for the love of God they don't deserve a wing in the Louvre. For sure I'd rather have a cup of their coffee than the blackened swill at Starbucks or the industrial Sysco food service dregs served at some overpriced West Marin restaurant but big deal, you know--coffee is supposed to be good. A huge crack in the artsy-fartsy atmosphere is, thankfully, provided by the fact that they're in Petaluma. Petaluma and pretension don't mix--so all you have to do is step outside and smell the poultry and the weirdly aged hipsters crouched over their Apple computers (doing something on their machine really intense and artful, no doubt) become more comic than intolerable. It's a good time, all in all, let's just hope it doesn't spread. read more

The sweet smell of fresh ground coffee nestled in the ambience of hipster decor, makes this shop one if my favs. Walking in to this brew house is always a treat. Upon ordering from the lovely cashiers, I took a few mins to take it all in. The baristas work very hard and are some of the very best. I always get a cappuccino. I enjoy watching them create designs from hearts to leaves and more in my foam. My coffee is always served quickly and to my perfection. I usually sit inside and relax talking to other coffee addicts.the only time I haven't enjoyed myself was mid day. It was semi slow and the place seemed to be at a loss for soul. Acre's Coffee is not special and is a bit pricy and the coffee isn't good. There is a nasty sign that tells laptop users are not allowed to sit at the side tables for more than a few minutes. Yeah, if you are not on your laptop, stay as long as you want, have a laptop - we don't want you to hang out. I guess laptop people are not hipster enough for this mediocre place. read more

Minimalist coffee shop in cute downtown Petaluma. I ordered a chai latte made with fresh squeezed ginger. It was amazing! I would have thought it would clash with the dairy, but it was wonderful. I waited about 3 minutes, while they were working on another customer's drink. I don't think I was wearing my pouty face, but maybe I was because the barista gave it to me on the house! I bought some of their house-roasted beans and will update the review after I've gotten into them. It must be a popular place because some of the seating asked that people restrict their wifi access to 30 minutes. I didn't have to worry about that as I went in a late afternoon. read more

My brother threw away 3/4 of his ice coffee cause there wasn't enough milk in the world to mask the overwhelmingness. This is exactly what you want a coffee shop to be - local, organic, spacious and friendly. Excellent place for meeting friends, working or grabbing a quick coffee. It can get crowded so keep that in mind, it'll generally be busier than downtown Starbucks so finding a table to meet a friend at noon might be challenging. The chai latte is amazing, they make their own and use real ginger so it has this awesome kick. Also the scones are light, airy and delicious. Well third time the charm..for location 1080 petalulma blvd location, my coffee latte has been luke warm and my egg was cold... I requested the latte to be warmer and was so hot I couldnt drink for an hour. The location downtown seems not to have the same issues? so maybe its the machine or training issues ...I really like there coffee so I will only patronize the down town location. Definitely my favorite spot in Petaluma! I've been to other coffee shops in town, but nothing beats Acre's local charm and amazing atmosphere! I come in at least a few times a week and have had multiple great experiences here, but this one tops them all: I ordered an ice coffee, it was at the end of the batch and I was told that if I didn't like the taste to let them know. I sat down, became involved in my work and the coffee was pretty grainy, but I didn't mention anything. One of the employees noticed that my drink was still full after a bit, came over to my seat and asked if I would like a new cup that was fresh. Of course I didn't refuse. Not only did he return with a new cup of coffee, but he had noticed exactly how I made my coffee in the past and brought soy milk, a mixing stick and a stevia sugar packet. I was beyond impressed! Coffee is really icky, but everyone loves coffee so I just pretend I love it too and it makes me feel a lot older and mature. I feel really hip when I go here because like every is really smart looking and interesting and it's all like really cute. I feel like Zooey Deschanel when I go here, but like before she was big and famous. I love the coffee here. The Gen Ma Chai is also fantastic. Be sure when you order you get enough water otherwise it will be the tea will be bitter. They have a few sweets and savories. The ambience is lovely. There is a long table for interaction or separate tables for private interaction. The place feels airy and comfy. When I was unhappy with my drink one of my visit and the folks behind the counter worked to make me happy. They were patient and amazing. My last stop in the Bay Area before I drove down to SFO to fly home. I was very impressed with this little coffee shop in Petaluma. The latte was absolutely outstanding, one of the best lattes that I've ever had, very smooth in flavor, didn't need any tasting to mask the bitterness of the beans. The service for the coffee was also very quick. I also ordered a "New York" bagel. This was much more of a disappointment. The bagel itself was certainly not a "NY" bagel, very dry. And it took forever to get it out of the kitchen, which was really annoying, especially as I was getting to the airport. The decor of the place was really great though, it seemed like it would be a perfect place to study. I would certainly stop back for coffee only if I'm back in Sonoma County. read more

Stopped in for an Americano. Coffee was just average. The Americano was very weak. I thought it was a bit strange for them to ask me which cup size (when the prices are the same) since doesn't that dictate the # of shots you would use? I asked for a medium and after tasting how weak it was, I realized they probably only do 1 shot of espresso regardless of how much hot water they mix it with...even Starbucks knows at least 2 shots of espresso gets added to a medium Americano. I would prefer they adjust their prices accordingly so regardless of the size of the drink, the coffee flavor and strength remains consistent. Overall ambiance was cute. Looked like a study hall. Also a bit intrigued by the signs they had posted that said no laptop use at these tables b/t 8am - 12noon (or something like that) due to limited seating. I guess too many people are sitting there for hours on their laptop but I can also see the same happening with 2 people talking. Seemed a bit arbitrary to me. read more

I am sorry Acre, I wanted to like you but things just didn't work out. Found this place through Yelp and I was really hoping this place would be my next go-to study and work spot in Petaluma. I was looking for a place other than your average Peet's Coffee or Starbucks. Acre almost does the job. Acre takes the cake when it comes to its vibe, beauty and interior. The place is so goddamn gorgeous and would almost make for the perfect study and work spot. Except it doesn't. I almost feel like the place subtly says 'laptops aren't welcome' because of the limited space and outlets. I visited in the morning and the place was pretty packed when I arrived, with almost all of the outlets taken at the time. There are designated areas on the side meant for laptops, but there were also signs on there saying "no laptop use until noon due to limited space" or "this area only meant for groups of 3 or more." I understand that due to high demand in the morning, Acre has to control spacing, but it was also a let down to know there weren't any available spots for me. If you're the type to go to coffee shops to chat up and catch up with friends, Acre might be more up your alley, but if you're the type to go to coffee shops to get stuff done, you might find it difficult to get some work space. Maybe come at night or after noon? Your chances are probably a lot better. That wasn't even what upset me the most - what upset me were their prices. All their selections were pretty pricey, and even way pricier than your gourmet coffee shop. I was in the mood for their teas, and I paid around $5.40 for a small steeped pot of their Mountain Green Jasmine tea. For that much, I was expecting something extraordinary but instead I got something that tasted exactly like the cheap Jasmine tea packets at Trader Joe's. No subtle differences or anything. I know it may not be fair for me to review a drink that they might not even specialize in. I gotta admit, I haven't tried their coffees yet, but the disappointment I had from the expensive tea was enough to send me out the door. Many coffee enthusiasts may appreciate their drinks more than I ever could, but for me it just wasn't my cup of tea (pun intended). ---- Verdict: One of the most gorgeous coffee shops out there, but with little laptop availability. Nice little cafe with pretty decent coffee. Cappuccino Review They pour a New Zealand flat white style which is micro foam in a 6oz cup, same as Four Barrel, Blue Bottle, but with the traditional amount of liquid instead of the more common 8oz. The Shot: Sliiiiightly sour, but overall decent. They've switched to using Verve beans and may start roasting their own soon. The Milk: Clover. Not bad, but could be better. They're located really close to Straus Family Creamery, so I with they'd use the Barista Blend. Service: Friendly and quick - they use Square which for me is convenient. Ambiance: Down to earth, hipster-ish, not many places to sit usually - not sure if they have WiFi. Conclusion: Best place I've found in Petaluma for sure - coffee is decent probably as good as you'll get at a place that doesn't roast their own beans. The drinks are not quite on par with places like Four Barrel or Blue Bottle but still quite good. As others have noted it is a hipster magnet, although again I point out as I have in other coffee shop reviews, it really ain't hipster when you compare to places in SF. read more

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review! Acre is truly one of the gems of Petaluma. Once you have a latte here, everything else makes you feel like you're cheating on your boyfriend. Yes, you pay a bit more, and the portion is smaller (a small if 8oz), but the quality is really worth it. I haven't had time to stay and enjoy a beverage inside yet, but I'm looking forward to a leisurely day off when I can. All the employees are really nice, and the clientele are friendly and unassuming. I recently discovered that they use the Square app for credit card payment, so you can pay with your phone if you have the app on your phone. Great feature for those who want to grab a coffee after a workout, or while you're walking the dog. read more

I honestly have a coffee crush on Acre Café. It fits in perfectly with the charming/restoration hardware/industrial Petaluma ambiance. A perfect little quaint spot to stop and enjoy a deep-mugged cup of joe. I also have to mention, as first impressions usually make or break an opinion, the chai tea late sprinkled with nutmeg, is by far the most delectable chai these lips have ever made love to. We love Acre Coffee! I have been to both locations depending on our needs, if you want to meet up with a large group go to the Petaluma Bvld. location, small intimate group go to the downtown one. My husband works in San Francisco but works from home on Thursdays, we drop our son off at school and head straight over to Acre for a delicious latte. Love the decor and love the staff. Tucked away around a bend in the road in historical downtown Petaluma, Acre Coffee is a wonderful coffee shop for those seeking something other than a chain. Some other reviews have mentioned Flying Goat Coffee, but when I visited they were serving Verve. Perhaps they alternate beans. Either way, my macchiato was delicious. The shop itself is a relatively narrow, rectangular space with sleek wood and an almost retro-schoolhouse theme (think metal lamps with on/off switches and stools). It gives the place somewhat of a hipster ambiance, but both the staff and the clientele are pretty varied. There were older couples, women catching up, students studying and young families. The baristas were friendly and unpretentious. Overall, a pleasant experience. read more
