This was our breakfast spot the morning after our stay at the Hilton. Normally we'd want to venture out and try one of the local spots around town, but as HHonors members we were given our $17-per-plate breakfast for free, and it's really hard to pass that up. The buffet was nice, with a good assortment of options to pull from. Additionally, there were two chefs posted in the middle, one making custom omelets to order and another making waffles to order. If you don't want the buffet, there are a number of less expensive options available as well. I don't know what else this area has to offer for breakfast options, but unless I find something better, I can honestly recommend this one. And if you're an HHonors member (Gold or higher, I think) staying at the hotel, your breakfast is on the house for every night you stay. Can't beat that! read more

Crowded, noisy, bad music, and weak food. We went for Christmas dinner, a buffet. It was $50 per person plus a 20% service charge, minus a discount for any seniors, with one alcoholic drink per person. I've never liked the idea of a restaurant in the lobby, and it was crowded on Christmas day. One of the neighboring tables was very friendly, but I'd still prefer not to be sharing my conversations. It was a bit too loud as well. I didn't like the music. No music would be ideal, or Christmas music would have been fine. Their music choice seemed nonsensical for Christmas so I pointed this out to our waitress. She came back soon and told me that it would be changed, but it didn't seem to change. Some of the food was weak: the smoked salmon (strongly flavored: was it some other type of cured salmon?), thin turkey gravy, and bad cranberry sauce. I liked a few of the dishes, like a chorizo/manchego fondue and blueberry pie. So a mixed bag on the food. I didn't like the setting and food enough to choose Aviles again for a holiday dinner. read more

Vegetarians BEWARE! We were walking along during a rain storm and wanted a nice meal to celebrate Christmas together. There were six of us and one is a vegetarian. Due to the rain, we stopped here, but ~~would not accommodate fettuccine with cheese or alfredo for our guest although fettucine was one of the pasta dishes offered (but with meat). This was a huge disappointment to our group and she had to settle for a salad accompanied with fried balls of goat cheese. ~~food for our party of six was served over 30 minutes. YES! That's right. The first people served ended up eating lukewarm food and were nearly done eating (after finally taking bites instead of continuing to wait) because the last people to be served had to wait so long ~~the wait staff seemed undertrained ~~the reason it gets two stars is that the food we were served, especially when tasted while hot was good. read more

Ordered their Paella and its pretty close to the Paella that I had when I visited Barcelona!... we had shrimp and chorizo for appetizer and you can tell that the shrimp was fresh, it was good!... my wife had a grouper and she was very happy with it, my kids enjoyed their foods as well... the service was awesome and the atmosphere was good too... the attendant said we came in the perfect night of the week because they are not busy... inexpensive for fine dining restaurant .... check out their wine list too ;) read more

This is a good place for breakfast if you're in old St. Augustine and need a comforting meal. Good southern breakfast options, very tasty biscuits and gravy, fluffy pancakes, pretty much everything offered with a bacon or sausage. Service was okay. We had enjoyed Aviles in the past and enjoyed the food. On 12/11/22 we decided to eat there again and it was a mistake. I ordered the Prime Rib and my wife ordered the Grouper. My Prime Rib was loaded with fat and the meat was tough. I have never had trouble cutting through Prime Rib. Also, my baked potato was undercooked. My wife's Grouper was not fresh and had a fishy smell. It did not look or taste like Grouper. It had a firmness more like swordfish . Grouper is flaky and this was not. I did complain to our waiter and he took off the Prime Rib. He was nice about it and comped a crème brûlée . The chef should have never allowed inferior meals to go out of his or her kitchen . We were expecting to have a superior dining experience but it did not happen. We will not return. We were at another high end restaurant we frequent when we are in St Augustine and told of our experience at Aviles and the waiter said she has heard others having a negative experience . A Hidden Gem Tucked away in the Hilton Hotel, Aviles is a fine dining experience. My wife and I dined there last night as it is Steak House night, and we had the Prime Rib. Amazing, soft, cooked rare as we ordered, just perfect. To help this experience along, we had cocktails at the bar (happy hour until 7:00 PM two for one on any drink. I can say Morgan make a great martini. Our server Alyssa was spot on professional with her service, and very friendly too. Service makes the evening. Outstanding food, great value, super service... For appetizzers, my wife ordered the Eggplant Tower, it was fantastic ! I ordered the Sherry Mushrooms and Spinach Salad - WOW !!! For dinner she had the Scallops Menendez, which was just great, brown butter almond sauce, seared jumbo scallops over rissotto - excellent. I ordered the Sherry Chicken and I was amazed at the portion which was a half of chicken cooked in a sherry/paprika sauce which had a wonderful taste, we will go back because the prices are very reasonable and the food is fantastic...Bravo ! read more

Small, intimate, excellent service and delicious food. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but one receives value for what one pays. We went for the first time for our anniversary - the seating was good but the service (thank you Kaitlyn) was outstanding, responsive, engaged and attentive. Our wine was delicious and the menu was varied and flavorful. The chocolate flourless tort is not to be missed. Thursday is all you can eat pasta night including a glass of wine of $16.95, Friday night is "Big Beef" night and Saturday is nothing but Prime Steaks, all top shelf steaks to melt in your mouth. Seating is very limited (perhaps 10 tables) so while no reservations necessary for lunch, make sure you have them for dinner. Lunch is served until 4PM, Dinner begins at 4PM. My husband and I went here for dinner based on the great reviews. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed in the food. The service was good and the presentation of the food LOOKED fancy, but the flavor was incredibly bland. My husband's Mediterranean chicken dish had zero flavor and my risotto was chewy , dry and unpleasant. It was like really bad banquet food. If the prices had been reasonable, I wouldn't have been so mad about it. But spending upwards of $100 on a meal for two that tasted like chewy nothingness was a bit angering. I was staying in the Hilton in which this restaurant is based recently. Initially I intended to eat elsewhere, but ended up eating here. I can't remember exactly what I ordered, but it was a pork dish and Mediterranean salad. I was joined later by a colleague who shared bread pudding for dessert. I didn't find the food to be anything overly spectacular (I feel like my pork was over seasoned and rather saucy actually). That said I thought the service was exceptional. Very friendly staff eager to help and take care of your needs. This is key for the solo traveler. The atmosphere wasn't exactly what I'd anticipated, in fact the majority of customers were fellow business travelers. It did have a bit of an airport lounge feel...but that's not necessarily a bad thing if you are on the road. 4 stars for exceptional service (not just at the restaurant, but at the hotel in general).- read more

I still feel a little queasy an it's been 2 hours since we ate our $175 dinner here tonight. I just got off the toilet from a bout of food poisoning that I got from the filet and lobster dinner that I ate here. My wife didn't fare much better, because she got food poisoning too. Not only was both the filet and lobster COMPLETELY tasteless, it was cold as well. The Pork Belly appetizer wasn't much better either. My wife is a Hilton diamond member, so we stayed at this Historic Hilton waterfront property where this restaurant is located. Usually Hilton restaurants are pretty good as far as the food is concerned, so we thought this one would be a good choice for dinner tonight; how wrong we were. Oh, also the 20% gratuity that was automatically added to our check for our party of two was also unexpected and insulting.. In St. Augustine, this restaurant is definitely a "No Go Zone". Great place to go on Thursday night for all you can eat pasta including shrimp. It said baby shrimp, but I have to say if these were baby them I am afraid of mama... The were what I would call large shrimp! Only down fall was the service. I was very disappointed with the service. The gentleman who waited on me aloud me to sit with an empty glass of water for more than 10 minutes. For there only being 1 other table he was waiting on, he could have been more attentive. This place felt more like a lobby bar than a restaurant. The food was mediocre at best, so I found it overpriced. The restaurant is located in the lobby, you can watch people checkin and checkout of the hotel. The bell hope was rolled right by our table a few times during our dinner. Outstanding!!! We came during the Night of Lights Holiday, every restaurant was jammed packed, being a Hilton Diamond member it seemed IF we could get in the hotel restaurant surely it would be good. Wrong! It was over the top excellent. They were quite busy but we were seating in a few minutes. The staff, everyone, are professional five star restaurant professionals. The food the same level. I had a 10 oz sirloin and my GF had the braised beef ribs. We finished with the Bananas Aviles, absolutely the best bananas Foster any where. Excellent food! The scallops appetizer was the best scallops we have ever had! The wine was delicious as well as the entrées. Service was great as well plus they have the valet parking which is phenomenal. My only complaint is the lighting in the restaurant. They use those bright white light bulbs as opposed to the warm light bulbs also the menus are very bright and lit up hard to read. Other than that it's a must go! read more

Food fight! We had always loved this place. We treated friends for a special night out . Two of us ordered steaks (turned out they only had one strip left, friend had ribeye). I ordered my steak "as rare as Chef will send it out". It came out only slightly pink. My friends was overcooked too. (but seeing the fuss that had been stirred, he ate it anyway) . I had to get the attention of the server (shouldn;t they stand by while you are cutting it to assure it is to your liking? Even Longhorn does that)/ . She looked at it, and said it looked rare to her. (whaaat?) . Then she said only the part near the bone looked tough. (It was boneless, and tough wasn't the complaint). Finally she took it away and I ordered something else. THEN the manager cam out, not to apologize, but to further argue that the steak should have been acceptable. She said that it was aged steak and aged steak always gets grey when cooked. (horseballs) . The rest of the evening seemed like a war zone. We were afraid to ask for a glass of water. Never again, and what a shame because we loved it. We were embarassed in front of our friends, whom we were treating for the evening. read more

Do not miss this restaurant. The atmosphere may be a bit airport lounge but the food and service are the real stars here. The chef has created a rustic mediterranean menu that absolutely captures the spirit of the spanish countryside. The san Marco salad with grilled portobelo mushrooms , goat cheese and tomatoes is an absolute must. scallops in a smoked tomato butter ingenious. I never order pork chops in a restaurant however after the fabulous appetizers I decided to take a chance. Life changing the tangy onion and sherry mushroom sauce mind blowing. My wife had a special of shrimp and scallops in a tomato butter sauce and a mystery ingredient that the waiter called pastis. On our second visit I took the advice of fellow yelpers and had the sherry chicken. Amazing. Have been dining at Aviles for a few years now. Always go for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The food is great and the service is fantastic. I've had the prime rib, crab legs, and turkey....the desserts? Great presentation and choice. Wouldn't go anywhere else. They are always so very accommodating. Even after being there for Thanksgiving and Christmas, last year our three children and their spouses and our seven grandchildren came for a visit and we all headed back to St. Augustine for New Years Eve. The best breakfast buffet in St. Augustine. Food, ambiance and service was exceptional. $17 per person includes everything they offer. It was not a huge variety but freshness and quality was truly outstanding. Includes a gourmet omelet station and gourmet waffle station. A fantastic selection of seasonal fruits and berries, nice additions like cut meats and cheeses (carpaccio and brie...mmmm). Juices tasted fresh and coffee was delish. We are from out of town have been to this place on three other separate occasions with great experiences. Last night brought group of friends for a Bday dinner and wow it was like the entire staff has changed. The food was not edible. Bar was horrible. Several things were out and we had to order twice. Ordered drinks and they were out but server never bothered to tell us. The meat was tasteless. Lobster tail overcooked. Lobster mac was soupy meat was tasteless. They comped us some free appetizer in an attempt to make up but the those tasted terrible too. It was so horrible I felt bad telling everything to the server/manager. Felt like the formal shell of what it used to be. I'm incredibly saddened how drastically our experience has changed. Approach with caution. read more

I guess i was expecting more form this supposed 5 diamond restaurant. Service was exceptionally slow and the food was some of the worst I have had in a long time. Started with a Caesar salad that was cut up in actual stalks not prepared as a salad, took one bite and sent it back . Then the special of the day Rib eye with stuffed resounds good rt? OMG the last time I had all my food stacked on top of each other was in Vietnam and I didnt like it then, this is how the plate looked bottom layer,yes i said layer , Mashed potatoes,then the ribeye (which was so over cooked it looked like a leather shoe)was place on top of them, then on top of the steak was the stuffed Prawn's a three layer dinner. But the topper was the prawns still had there heads on and were looking at Mathe Chef had come out to the table and asked how i liked it. Told him it looked like a bait shop and to take this crap off my table.l Needless to say i never saw him again. My wife had the Rack of Lamb and said it was over cooked and very bland tasting . And the Bill for this was 100 bucks with gratuity for this crap. Save your money and never ever eat here. read more

Okay First off let me start this review off by saying the service staff was professional and the food at the brunch was okay. My review has more to do with the management at this restaurant. Reservations were made for a party of 3 for the restaurants Mothers Day Brunch. My Father even called to confirm the day before. We arrive early and check in. The hostess brings us to a table in this small little room off the bar that was sweltering hot. When I mentioned that we had reservations and this seating area was not very comfortable. The hostess was professional and explained they were busy and she would have the manager come over and speak to us. Well when the manager finally came over and I explained my concerns with the room and that I would like a table in the dining room. First she said she would have engineering do something about the temperature in the room. Then when I stated I would like to sit in the dining room and I also reminded her that We did have a reservation, and that was when I was presented with the statement "Well Reservations in the Dining Room are not Guaranteed" and when I explained to her that policy was not explained to when the reservation was made nor when it was confirmed as well. At this time she made it seem like she would do me a favor and move me into the dining room. This favor took about 15 minutes. This room had no air conditioning and the managers idea of calling engineering consisted of some ordering some poor girl to stand on a small chair and adjust the setting on the ceiling fan. I was very disappointed in the way our experience was handled. read more

I called the Avilles three weeks before Thanksgiving to make reservations for the Thanksgiving buffet . I was told they were not taking reservations and if we came early, seating would not be a problem. This is not unusual for St. Augustine where most restaurants do not take reservations for dinner. Today I arrived at the Avilles at 12:30 PM with my family only to be told they were only seating customers with reservations. I explained to the hostess that I had called and been told no reservations were needed. She offered us only a list of other restaurants in the area serving Thanksgiving dinner. We did find a lovely restaurant that did not require reservations and had a great meal. I live in St. Augustine and do frequent the old town regularly and have frequent guest. I will not be recommending this restaurant or the Hilton to any of my guest when they come to visit and would suggest the staff be given the correct information on Holiday services when called. read more
