I couldn't have been more disappointed. We carefully read the reviews on this place and they are all backwards! From the food to the service. We were really looking forward to eat here. I'll start with the food. We asked for our pastas to be al dente and we were willing to wait for a fresh batch. It came out so over cooked you couldn't even put a fork in it! The quality of the food was very low budget! Not even restaurant depot low budget but more along the Walmart or Aldi kind. The bread was great. We asked for a second round on it! When we got our check we were charged for bread! Never in my life have I been charged for complimentary bread! And to not even tell us, that's the crazy part! Let's move to the desserts. When offered we were told to look in the case next to our table that was the desserts. They were clearly old. The tiramisu and cakes were dry on the top and not even covered! We passed! Now onto the service. This place is so small I don't know how you can lose your server. But we did. When the food came out we wanted cheese she was gone for at least 10 minutes! So either no cheese or cold food. Not how you eat Italian food! Not to mention she had a serious attitude problem! Tried to simply chalk it up to she's having a bad day. She was rude! Great little Italian café tucked into one of Florida's strip malls, I found it by accident going to the nearby Publix for groceries. I loved the cozy atmosphere and excellent service. My wine, a Reisling, was very good semi-dry and the mussels in linguini were really really tasty and a large portion providing a take-home meal. Italian left-overs are the best. The missing star is due to nothing visible in the cooler display case -- desserts are enticing when visible, and no happy hour for their House wines. All together a great find. read more

The only thing that's better than this establishment is the incredible service we received. The meatballs are incredible, soups are amazing, and the sauces they make for their dishes are straight out of Italy. The authenticity of this food is spot on. The lasagna is absolutely a show stopper. You can't go wrong on this menu. We were fortunate enough to land with Cheryl as our server. She was incredibly knowledgeable, so welcoming, and very attentive. Apart from the food, she was the main reason we came back for a second meal. The rest of the staff was also amazing. While on vacation, we asked a local for a recommendation and when it came to Italian, Gusto was the place. She is Italian and explained that she's pretty picky but this place serves food as authentic as possible (for the US). It's a small place in a strip center but we're so glad we went. The food definitely gets a 10! We had goat cheese bruschetta and mozzarella in carrozza. The cheese was 5-star. Super fresh and creamy. The sauce on the mozzarella was perfect as well - not too heavy but savory and yum. We had planned to order an entre, to share, but were honestly too full from the appetizers to eat anything more. From making a reservation to the greeting once we arrived, to the food and ambiance with soft music; this was the BEST experience and the BEST Italian dishes ever. A hidden gem in a small strip mall. Found the location on Yelp while trying to find a spot to eat at while on vacation. Small, quaint space and we were greeted right away and told to pick a seat. Monica came right over and handed us menus and asked what we'd like to drink. We opted for glasses of wine. She then brought warm bread with oil/vinegar dip. All the entrees come with choice of soup or salad. We had the veal Marsala and spaghetti & spicy sausage ( forgot to get picture). Both were good portion. Flavors were delicious! What a pleasant surprise this restaurant turned out to be. We went on a Sunday night around 5:30 and were seated right away. It's a very small restaurant but the ambiance is cozy elegant. Service was good and attentive without being overly so. But the star of this restaurant is the food. It was fabulous. I had the parpadelle bolognese, my husband had the lasagna and my dad had the osso bucco. All three dishes were delicious and my husband even said the lasagna was the best he's ever had. The parpadelle tasted like it was homemade. I don't know if it is but it sure seemed to be. The sauce was so good too. The only critique I would give is that the tables for 4 are small. We were only three and are not big people so it wasn't a big deal but if we were 4 large adults it think it would be a bit uncomfortable. Our visit was amazing! I called to make a reservation for 3 at 6:30pm, but that wasn't available only a 7:30pm so I said okay that's fine. No more than 5 min after I hung up, the restaurant called to tell me a cancellation occurred and there was a 6:30pm so I took it. We were celebrating the baby's 3rd birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted, and seated it is fairly small inside, about 9 tables or so. Nonetheless all the patrons were so kind, and loving. As well as the staff. The food was excellent and tasted so authentic, for appetizers we got 'La Caprese' & a fried mozarella dish. Our entrees were Alfredo and a delicious sausage pizza! After eating they brought out our dessert choice with a candle and everyone in the restaurant sang happy birthday to our 3 y/o it was a very special moment to see that there are still so many loving people in this world, and a reminder to me that it never goes un noticed to be kind to someone. They also discount your bill if you pay cash, I love that option! Our total was $91 for the two appetizers, that were about $16 ea and the pasta dish being $20 and my pizza $16 plus a glass of wine and two lemonades. It was nice and cozy inside, and an all around wonderful restaurant. We will be back again. read more

I would recommend that you call at least a day ahead. Also no lunch hours - they open at 3 pm. I had the eggplant and it was very good - it was fresh eggplant, not the frozen breaded stuff you usually get. It also did not come with a huge glop of melted mozzarella on top - just a sprinkling which is fine. My wife had the grilled salmon and it was a very nice dinner - enough to take some home. The house salad was fine - a nice mix of fresh greens. I thought the blue cheese dressing was quite good - real chunks of blue cheese. The service was very good - prompt and friendly; noise level was low. Overall worth going. I give it a solid 4 1/2 stars. read more

WOW! What a lucky find we discovered on our anniversary while visiting from Atlanta. We had the most wonderful time here: the place was so small and intimate, our waitress Cheryl, was so unusually sweet and helpful and the food was absolutely AMAZING!! From the house wine (Pinot Noir), to the so flavorful toasted warm bread, the superb salad but especially the main dish! It was one of the best that I had ever had (Fettine di pollo scarpariello)!! My husband had the lasagna and it was equally amazing! There was so much left over that we had enough for dinner another night! We loved our experience so much that we brought our friends with us the very next night! We all had the chicken marsala, and I hate to be so repetitive but I have never had better! I tried the pasta fagioli and hubs did a Caesar salad.. soup was really good.. obviously homemade and enough for a meal in itself. Served with warm, fresh bread that more than passes the 'good bread in FL' test For entrees, hubs went with the pappardelle in Bolognese sauce with added meatballs. All of the pastas are homemade.. and he was very impressed with the sauce.. My manicotti was out of this world.. light & fresh .. They made it in the Pomodoro sauce for me (my hairdresser advised me to try their sauce) .. and now I can say - I found red sauce in FL that I love (and I didn't have to make). Good, friendly service.. and the owner stops by to check in on you.. He's from Rome and I'm happy he chose to come to St Augustine - and bring his Pomodoro sauce with him! read more

Excellent food and service! From the appetizer to the main meal, everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The menu has so many tasty options it was hard to choose. We had the Caprese appetizer, which consisted of cool thick slices of fresh tomatoes, thick slices of creamy soft fresh mozzarella and topped with fragrant fresh basil and a rich and lightly sweet balsamic reduction and EVOO. So good we soaked up the extra with the hot Italian bread slices. The cannelloni and seafood pasta, both in the freshest most flavorful pomadoro tomato sauce were superb in every way. A hidden gem! We have a place that we would go to back home almost every week when we were kids.. we would go with our entire family of about 15 and became very much locals to the spot. The owner also had the same name as our hometown restaurant it just felt like pure bliss. 2 of our family members from that group and really the leaders of our family both passed in the last month so it truly felt like the led us to try Gustos. While the location of the restaurant is quite pleasing; situated in a little shopping plaza right before you get into downtown St. Augustine. My experience at the restaurant was not enjoyable, at all. I stumbled upon Gusto, seeing as my favorite Italian restaurant I normally go to was closed because the owners were on vacay. I found Gusto on Yelp, checked out their menu, and saw they served Gluten-Free pasta. I always call the restaurant first to make sure they actually have Gluten-Free pasta (which they do.) My partner and I arrived, the restaurant was pretty busy for a Saturday evening, and we sat at a nice little table in the corner. I ordered the Gluten-Free noodles with Pomodoro sauce, grilled chicken on top, and a side of broccoli. My partner ordered the lasagna. We both received salads with our meal (picture shown) which were great! Unfortunately, once the salads were brought, the service went downhill fast after that. I asked the waitress for water - she didn't bring it, we asked for additional bread - and were brought only 2 slices, and last, but not least - the length of time it took for our dinner to come out. After 30-minutes, the waitress comes to our table to notify us there was a huge catering order so it was taking longer than expected. Another 30+ minutes goes by and she comes back and says she forgot to put in my gluten allergy and ring my dinner as Gluten-Free. By the time we got our meals, I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture. The Pomodoro sauce was mediocre, the chicken was bland, and I never received the side of broccoli I ordered. Unfortunately, my partner had to send her lasagna back because she said it wasn't hot enough. When she finally received the new plate of lasagna, she said it tasted like mushy potatoes. We were given a 15% discount from the waitress and while the owner was busy sitting at the bar, laughing and talking with other patrons. He saw all of this going on and did not even blink to get up, walk over to our table, apologize for the inconvenience of the long wait and/or the bland tasting food. For those reasons, I gave this place a 1 star and sadly, I will not be eating here again. read more
