By far the most unorganized and chaotic rental experience I've ever had. They have a sign up on the counter saying cars are still available, yet people with reservations are waiting with a huge line forming because the cars are backed up for who knows what reason. Customers were also waiting at the pickup area in the garage for cars to become available after already checking in at the counter!! You wait, make it past the line, then wait some more. They give minimal communication or direction as to what is happening or why and when asked staff act bothered (minus Emily, she was cool and a few older gentleman retrieving cars). I went to hand my paper to the garage booth attendant and I was met with a "yes.....?" "You need to wait for your car" with no sign of my car that had already been booked and confirmed prior. When we arrived at the counter, Cindy N. initially provided us with keys to a minivan and appeared to complete the transaction. Moments later, she took the keys back and informed us that they could no longer accommodate the reservation after all. There was no meaningful explanation, no apology and no effort to help us find an alternative solution. Avis CHARGED me over $300 because I returned my car early. They literally price gauged me during a public bankruptcy. What's amazing is Spirit actually refunded me for the flight that never happened. Hyatt refunded me. Southwest discounted me. But Avis up-charged me $300+ without my knowledge because I returned my car early. Be aware. I would give zero stars if possible. This place is an epic waste of time and their employees are rude, have zero training, and one even straight out lied to me repeatedly. In researching how to rent a car with winter tires, I found the AVIS website that had winter tires as an option at some locations and by special request. I called the branch to find out if winter tires were an option. The employee I spoke with said I could reserve a car with winter tires. Throughout the entire reservation process I REPEATEDLY asked him if the car he was booking for me had winter tires ( I was skeptical) and REPEATEDLY he said yes. He lied over and over again. When I arrived at 7:30 am to pick up the car, the car did not have winter tires. The two women at the front desk were rude and told me there were no cars in their fleet that had winter tires. Lastly, when I was reserving the car over the phone, the employee charged $1500 to my credit card without my consent even though I asked repeatedly to pay on return. Continued issues including long waits, indoor staff consist of (2) employees stating they have zero cars even though they've been reserved online. Even more annoying in my opinion, walking up to the "preferred member" line which is full of "non-preferred" people who are just simply tired of waiting in line. Avis employees don't want a scene so they just allow it. I'm Curious, what's the point of being a preferred member ? After your long stressful wait inside, you'll be directed outside where you'll stand inside the parking garage waiting for your car to be pulled around with no time frame given (Zero employee's outside to help). This wait can take 10min- 1 hour which I've personally experienced. I've spoken to many people while waiting over the last several years only to find this is very stressful to most. If I could give them zero stars I would. We had a reservation for a car at 5:30pm. The line was completely full and weaving around the baggage area. Turns out someone had tried to steal a car so all the rental car places were closed. When they started back up, literally all the other rental places cleared their lines except Avis/Budget. The main problem came when we had literally been standing there for TWO HOURS, when one staff member cut our line up and allowed the fast track and preferred members to get in front of us. Now, I understand that normally they have this perk. However this was not a normal time and again, we had been standing there for so long. They needed to clear us in order and reduce the line. We had been nice up until that point and then the Avis and Budget staff had attitude with us, like "talk to my manager!" We said great bring them out. Did they? No. It took over 2 hours and then the preferred kept getting in front of us. After we finally got to the front they did not print our receipt for us because of "printer issues" but we saw them print out multiple pages..... you then have to walk yourself to the where the cars are. Luckily our car was there but people who had been in front of us had been waiting out there still for the car they were promised. I was unable to use the app to pickup my vehicle, resulting in waiting in long lines with grumpy staff. The first week my vehicle was dirty inside and out. A receipt was not available upon return and it took more than 48 hours to get receipt delaying my expense submission. Once I got to the counter, I got my paperwork and went to get the rental car. I was told the car wasn't ready, so I set for a little while, and got up to ask where is my car, and was told it still wasn't ready. I had a family emergency and that's why I was in Reno in the first place. So I got up again to ask where the car was. They gave me keys, and pointed at the car and sent me on my way. By this time it was almost 2:00 PM. Nobody came and showed me anything about the car. Nobody came out to inspect the car. In the past, when I'd rent from other agencies, somebody always did a walk-around the car. Due to my family emergency, and having already waited so long, I took off without checking the back of the car. It was when I picked my son up and he started packing the truck of the car that I realized the car was dirty. Now mind you, I rented the car for one day, so after all that waiting to get the car, and after getting to my son's location and realizing the problem, I tried calling Avis back to let them know how nasty the car was, but they were closed. I had to drive the car in the condition it was in to move my son back to California overnight. Also, half way back to California, the engine light came on!!!! I had to drive the rest of the way concerned that the car might break down!!!! When I turned the car in at the drop off location in California, I called Customer Service to tell them about the car's condition and they refunded me $32.46 for the inconvenience they said; and then Avis turned around and charged my credit card $450.00 for cleaning fees, even after multiple attempts of me telling them this is how they gave the car to me!!!! Worst customer service ever!!!! These employees have zero clue what's going on. Avis as a whole has no clue. You wait on hold to speak to a local representative and it seems you to a broken link. You can't speak to anyone in America, nonetheless in the state you are renting a car. We were rented a broken car and then rolled to drive out 3 hours to Reno to exchange it. When we arrived they stated they had no cars. But then after complaining, they mysteriously found one. We were told to go out to them booth but there was no one there. Had to aimlessly walk the parking garage to find an employee who was just as considered l confused why they were sending people to an unmanned booth. Finally when we found a competent employee, she was able to find our car, which was being washed. But apparently everyone else waiting for a car was told they were waiting for their rental car to be washed. We were rushed with such confusion trying to make this car exchange that I forgot my handicap placard in the first car. Immediately we came back to airport and the car was gone and they couldn't locate it. I've been on hold for hours trying to find my belongings. When we finally got to the garage to get our vehicle no Avis employee told us what to do, how to get our car, etc. My partner finally asked after an additional 20 minute wait - our car was sitting there waiting for us but no one told us or gave us the keys!!! The only experience worse was returning the car to the same location - a logistical nightmare. I was asked to move the car 3 times before some one offered to accept the return!! As always, huge line at the window and completely missed uninterested staff (1-2). Welcoming someone to the party (starting their shift) is less useful than finishing the customer in front of you. Asking when someone is leaving and who's closing is less useful than finishing the customer in front of you. If you're scheduled until 6, stay until 6. Leaving 10 minutes early because you can't possibly help a person in just 10 minutes is stupid. It really seems like they're just trying to waste as much time per person because there isn't a reason not to. It's very hard to understand why National and Hertz never have these issues while Avis seems content to have one and done customers instead of repeat business. Having 2 people staring blankly at 1 computer is not the same as having 2 people working. The last review that wasn't 1 or 2 stars happened more than 5 years ago. So much wrong here. read more

What a disaster of a rental agency. Rental processing at the Reno airport took an hour and 20 minutes. Then you're sent to the garage where you wait for someone to bring out the cars. First off, I wouldn't even give them a star. I'd give them 5 thumbs down. We waited 2 hours for a yucky, ugly car and received horrible service from Meagan. Not only do you wait in a long slow line across baggage claim, you have to wait in ANOTHER line outside to get the keys. The agent at the first counter had called me over to assist. When I walked over, she asked if I could be patient while she left to use the restroom. There were only two of them, and later three, with 30 people in line- I said, of course. They're working hard. My sister and I get to the 2nd line outside for the keys and was told the car was getting cleaned and someone would pull up with the car, calling out the make and model. Hour later, nothing. My sister noticed her car with matching plates, to info provided, parked across the way and asked for the key. Lo and behold, the lady that told us wait, had her keys. She hands it to my sister and she leaves. Waiting another 40 minutes, I still dont have a car. Nearly 2 hours, I'm pretty pissed. I'm letting the agent know, Ive been waiting nearly 2 hours and there are customers walking up and receiving their car keys, why don't we have a car? These customers show up nearly 2 hours after us and get their keys right away. Meagan gets on the phone and asks whoever on the other end, what's going on with the car because "she's getting crazy", I said, "Excuse me? I heard what you said. If you were waiting nearly 2 hours for your car and others are walking up getting there's, you'd get crazy too". I have my husband address this agent because nothing rational will come from me at this point. Meagan voiced to my husband, something to the effect of how she WAS gonna give us a discount but since we were so rude, she not gonna give it to us. She also questioned if we even went up to the counter.., I hadn't known all this until AFTER we left. We asked for the update twice, they said it was getting cleaned and someone would bring it down. All 4 agents had bad attitudes! Three female agents were laughing and speaking Tagalog amongst themselves while the 1 male agent looked flustered and confused. This happened on June 4th 2024. They claimed it was staffing, but why do you not have the cars ready when you have reservations? We tried to ask Enterprise or Hertz, but they only had cars for their reservations (unlike AVIS). I was "assisted" by a very rude Avis /Budget agent named Sheila or Shella. A small Filipina lady with a fiery attitude who was extremely demanding, very inconsiderate, very mean and basically just wanted to rush us along. She seemed mad that we had set the reservation through Priceline. Technically we had a reservation with Budget, but it seems Budget and Avis are both the same company. We also had a bad experience 5/25/24 in Reno. We are preferred members, so we assumed we'd be fast-tracked to pick up our vehicle. Nope. Someone called out sick (or so we were told), so there were only 2 people doing both Avis and Budget reservations. It took us **40** minutes to get to the front of the preferred line, and there were probably 4-5 customers ahead of us. Why? Besides the missing Avis employee, the Budget agent was taking the Fast Track customers first, whereas the Avis representative was taking one preferred then one non-preferred customer. Once we got to the counter the Avis rep was very kind, and we asked for and received an upgrade (and that's the only reason we are giving this experience 2 stars and not 1). Because we had pre-paid our rental, our time at the counter was quick. Now comes part 2. We got out to the vehicle pick-up point, and we had to wait another 15 minutes for the car (oh, and the pick-up both was empty, so we could not get any information about our vehicle; the both was also filthy). We saw one guest get her car pretty quickly, but the rest of us waited and waited, then 4 vehicles showed up boom, boom, boom. My husband asked why, and the guy who drove our car said "dunno." It was very unprofessional. There is no security when you exit the car rental area ( think this is true for all rental companies). We are used to having to show our rental agreement to someone who checks the agreement, looks around the vehicle to see if there are any dings or scratches, documents them, then raises the gate arm to let us exit. This does not happen in Reno, so the car rental area is not very secure. I get that it's a holiday weekend, but it's all about setting expectations. If an Avis representative had come out and explained the reason(s) for the delays, then we might not have liked it, but we would have been informed. We looked over at the other rental car companies, and they were able to get their customers through the lines quickly, so we might look elsewhere the next time we come to Reno. read more

Picked up our "PREFERRED" rental care through Avis at Reno Tahoe International Airport. Reserved a mid sized SUV, was offered a Malibu, since when did a Malibu fall into the mid sized SUV category? Then when are get that straightened out, getting the right car that we had reserved ahead of time, in addition to our rental fees for the car we were charged an additional $250 key "deposit". We were told at pick up we would be refunded the $250 when we brought the car and keys back. Not happy about this additional charge but okay. We returned the car, preferred is supposed to have faster check. So when we brought the car back the young man checking the car in tells us he can credit back $50....WHAAAT! We have a $250 refundable deposit when the car/keys are returned. He said oh you have to go to the counter to get your refund. This is so BOGUS!!! They have our credit card on file for the car rental and then charge $250 key return charge and only refund $50. NO MORE AVIS...we will be using your competitors from now on.
