Bait and switch. Don't rent from Dollar or Hertz! First of all, I've stopped renting from Hertz bc it is the worst rental company of all of them and should have gone out of business a couple years ago. What I didn't know until it was too late was Hertz had bought Dollar; so it sucks even worse than Hertz. We were going to Lake Tahoe for a ski trip and snow was forecasted during the time we planned to be there. So I searched for an AWD rental. Dollar had an enticing price if I prepaid for the rental. So I did. Unlike most rentals at other airports, there is no direct pickup of the car in the garage even though I had checked in online prior to arrival as the text msgs from Dollar kept asking me to. I still had go to the counter to check in. There were 3 agents at the counter with 3 other customers in line in front of me. It took 45 mins before I was able to reach the counter. The agents operated as if they couldn't care less about the long line of waiting customers. When I finally got to the counter, I was told apathetically by the old man that like he had told 2 other customers in front of me that they didn't have any AWD or SUV like what I had paid for. The only thing available was a lower class and much cheaper Chevy Malibu. When I expressed my disbelief and frustration he simply leaned back and crossed his arms and asked: "so do you want the car or not?" Of course I had no choice but to take it. I made inquiry to Dollar customer service after my trip as to when I'd get my refund. They responded by acknowledging that I got a lower grade rental and offered me a $50 Dollar gift certificate good for 6 months. They coyly avoided saying they wouldn't issue a refund when I repeatedly ask whether I will get one. All they would say was they have mailed me a gift certificate. They have the worst service attitude I've ever encountered and this is clearly an intentional bait-and-switch practice by Dollar. Don't be the next victim of their fraudulent practices. read more

Terrible process, texted multiple times to check in days prior to my arrival so I finally did so as the plane landed. Way too much information to share in my opinion and I did it anyway because the SO was hungry and I wanted to make it a quick transition. Unfortunately, even if you've checked in you still have to go to the counter. At least 15 people in line and just two agents. Clearly not everyone had checked in and they're going over the bullshit insurance options, and myriad of ways they'll screw on fuel. Seriously an average of 10 minutes per person. Yes that's right waiting in line for 2.5 hours to be assigned a car I've already checked in for online. Go to National or Enterprise. read more

Was supposed to be a $120 2-day rental... Dollar counter was closed so I was sent to the Hertz counter... When the rental was finished, I asked the person I handed the keys off to if the vehicle looked okay, letting them know that I even took time to vacuum it. He told me "don't worry about it". Two days later, I have an additional $250 "cleaning fee" added to my credit card. $370 down the drain. AVOID DOLLAR RENTAL AT ALL COSTS. I wish I'd read their reviews first!! This review is for the Dollar rental cars located at the Reno international airport. The employees were incompetent and slow (maybe cognitively disabled). We waited 45 minutes standing in a slow moving line. We had a reservation. The snow chains that were supposed to be there for us were not, so we had to buy some, which cost over $100. Very annoying after a flight. If you have limited time or need to be somewhere at a certain time, I would NOT RECOMMEND Dollar rentals. read more

Dollar Rental Car intentionally manipulates customers. They don't staff their own customer counter and instead have their customers wait in an extensively long line in Hertz (2 hours) while advertising that they provide great customer service. It would be permissible if this was an isolated experience but if you look at other customer reviews, Dollar has been manipulating customers for months. Don't rent from Dollar. Spend the money elsewhere for a quality start to your time in Reno. read more

I chose dollar because I'm an express member and wanted to grab my rental and go. But they don't have express here. And they have hertz handling their rentals, so you're stuck in line with hertz AND thrifty renters. It took an hour to get the car. If I had known this (it's not mentioned in the rental confirmation), then I would've rented through hertz to take advantage of their gold express line. The lady who helped me was super nice and it only took a few minutes once I got to the counter, so 2 stars to her. read more

The worst part is that you have to wait for all of the hertz customers to get attended to first because I guess they are this associates priority. It's the worst customer service I've ever experienced. It's a holiday weekend and they man this desk with ONE person? It's just the worst. Avoid at all costs. January 23 2020 I made a reservation for a car rental through Hotwire.com The pride was reasonable $112 for 2 days that $78 upfront and $33 at pick up,including some kind of added insurance protection. I usually pay around $150 with enterprise car rental so I thought i was a good deal. On the pick up day the 24th for my surprise Dollar car rental added an extra $231 hold fee on my credit card Of course I asked why a hold fee on a credit card I do understand this fees are usually added when a debit car is used. I didn't get an answer other than it our policy. I decided to cancel my order and fight the fees with my credit car. Be aware of extra fees with this company don't be lured by lower prices advertised. I learned my lesson I rather go to a more reputable company with no hiding fees read more

We rented a car from Dollar at Reagon Airport in Washington DC and were charged nearly double. After the rental was returned we were charged a $47 airport fee (Reagon Int'l A/P), $75 for insurance that I had declined verbally but it was on the contract, $45 for gas that I didn't use and (get this!) $16 for the license plate fees on the car. The total add'l charges that I didn't authorize or expect was $229.29. A $301.72 rental wound up costing us $531.01. Top this off with some absolutely uncaring, rude and lazy agents at the Reagon Airport. This is not good business. This is robbery. read more

OK - so I procrastinate sometimes. No, really! Somehow, renting the car just did not get to the top of the to-do list. I did a little research then fell asleep before I did the reserve. Next thing I know, I am doing the airport shuffle and hustle. --- Well, now I'm on line in the air (yes, I know, but it was a long flight) and I am suffering from sticker shock. Holy cow! With a last minute effort, I download the Priceline app. When the wheels touched ground I fired up prepared to find the worst. Nope, Same pricing I saw the night before. "What?!" so, I moseyed over to the counter and ask the super nice girl if "this price would work?" She checked with the manager and he said sure thing. Super duper awesome!! Today (Monday 3/20 1PM) I stood in the long line for an hour before it was my turn to be helped( I was help at 1:55PM) ..... I missed my lunch and a business meeting I came here for. The entire counter had 2 employees for regular customers, and one for Herz Gold members. In the regular line we had about 15-20 people waiting in the line.... Thank god some customers couldn't wait so they went to the Enterprise car rental cuz no one was waiting there. Employees worked every customer with no sense of urgency, no apology, still laughing and making long unnecessary conversations about non-work related stuff with every customer..... Seriously, y'all could have skipped the usual small talk and be more productive in this special situation, because I don't think waiting for an hour to get a rental car that we booked online ahead of time is normal. I've been to LAX and I didn't even have to waiting on my car for an hour. Multiple people in the line were notably irritated and started to yell " Open another line!" " It's been an hour this is ridiculous." Anyway, I made the mistake of renting car at the airport. I STRONGLY suggest you guys take Uber to anywhere that's not the airport then rent a car there and be on your way within 10 mins. Oh also all the car rental places at the airport share those two counters, the other one had even longer line, prob 30 people! The only one with no wait was Enterprise. read more

Horrible! Car overheated five miles after leaving Reno airport. Pulled into a parking lot and call dollar roadside assistance. They could care less.. made us wait over two hours and never came.. we added water and drove it back to the airport. They fully expected us to get in a line (that we stood in for an hour earlier) again, with 20 plus people.. what they should have done was send a car to replace and took the other car.. instead they told us to stay by the car in 100 degree heat until AAA came to tow and take the car and one of us back to the service center, (and I suppose the other person was to wait in the parking lot with the luggage????? Jesse and Deanna. I have watched Jesse grow with the company and be promoted..he's a delight. Deanna greets me with a smile (and my name) every time I'm there. By far the worst rental company I have EVER dealt with. First after we got everything the line took about 45 minutes to even speek to an employee. Then once we got up there I knew we would have to give them a $500 deposit due to no credit card only debit. Once I said I had a debit he said that they also have to do a credit check. A hard inquire to rent a car??? Never have I seen this. So I paid over $350 for the rental, then another $500 deposit, so Almost $900 for 4 days. And that's not enough. I ended up walking away and going to enterprise. Now I am fighting for a refund. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! there is absolutely no reason for all this for a rental!!!! read more

If you're going to have the Hertz desk handle your reservations at the airport, the *least* you could do is put a big sign that people can read at Hertz indicating that it's where Dollar rentals are being handled instead of making people walk all the way down to Dollar to pick up a car and then have to walk all the way back. I was there with my disabled father and those are extra steps he did not need to take. I informed the Hertz desk, and the rude clerk Iqua rolled her eyes at me. There is a small print sign hidden behind a large column. Iqua was 100% rude. What a subpar, pathetic excuse for a human being. If she was my employee, she would be fired. Unacceptable... This is the only time I've ever had a negative comment regarding Dollar Car Rental, so here it goes: I rented a full size car, which turned out to be a Sir Sonata. The gas mileage was AMAZING! But at 6' tall I could barely see through the front windshield. When I mentioned this to the attendant at the Reno airport, he said that was a full-size car and I could upgrade for additional cost. Upon further investigation on my own, a Sonata is considered mid-size, NOT full size. After filing a complaint a young lady named Portia Pollock in Customer Service contacted me and made the whole situation better by giving me an adjustment on the rate I paid. So all is right and I'm a satisfied DOLLAR customer once again. read more

The counter service at the Reno airport is very slow. The first car I received was very smoky and on its last leg. I t was a real jalopy. I complained and got a nother car in better condition. The paperwork was messed up and the whole thing probably took 90 minutes. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. Our car sprang a leak on the way to south lake tahoe and ran out of oil. The customer service person told us to get more oil and put it in the car, lol. We were stranded on the side of the road and eventually got a tow truck. The tow company said it returned it to the reno airport but dollar has no record of it ever being returned. They're now charging me $155 day because they think it hasn't been returned. Luckily my credit card company will dispute these charges but you can't get a hold of anyone at the desk. This company sucks so bad. Do not give them your business. Would give 0 stars if possible. read more

I really like these guys. The two times I've rented from them have been easy and hassle free. The first time I rented because my normal car had been in an accident and was at the shop. I told the girl I was under 25 (at the time) and may be returning it early. She said she could do nothing about the underage fee, but she put a note to waive any early return fees. This was in 2013. I was given a Nissan Versa. I had no problems with the car. It didn't smell funny, it ran well and was a great little car. I was in and out of line within 30 mins (I don't recall the exact time frame, but I know it wasn't long). I did end up having to return the car early, and sure enough, no fees :) The second time I rented because my normal car was in the shop for a warped axel or something. I had to wait 10 minutes in line (in late March I think?) but I was in no rush. I was 25, so I wasn't worried about an underage fee. Once I got to the counter, the lady was helpful and got me going in again, no time at all (probably under 20 min?). I was given a Chevy Cobalt, and I loved that thing too! Newer model, Bluetooth. It was awesome. Return time was no big deal in and out in no time. I love that dollar doesn't charge for a ton of mileage. They're a great company, at least at this location and I will continue to rent from them until I have issues. read more

Bad first rental experience ever I won't recommend this company to any of my family and friends. I booked online from Orbitz and bought insurance for my rental car because it's cheaper than the other online company.but when the time I pick it up from the rental company the Filipino guy who was helping me told me a different price than the Orbitz online booking and he also told me that he can't see any insurance and suggested to buy from the there company for safety. my charges went up and I have two insurance on that when I get home I called Orbitz right away about the different price issue and also about the two insurance for the rental car. I only rented the car for one day and insurance from Orbitz. Around 6 pm we went to Vallejo to do our last trip which is grocery to Seafood city and eat at jollibee. Someone smashed out the window and steal two purses inc. the special document, car keys and also house keys. we were only inside the store for 1 hr N 30 minutes to do our last errand. to make it short I drove that rental car with broken glass to exchange it to Sacramento so we could go home to reno. we arrive at Sacramento around 11 pm. to exchange the car and one of the employee name Emily who was helping me told me that she will give me satisfaction certificate so I could $50 discount I told her every detail about what happened. She even put a note about the certificate and told me I'm only going to be charge 170 total but unfortunately, my total charges went up to $256.17 I've been calling dollar company and been told their manager or supervisor will call me regards to my issue. I will post all the transaction charges here also the amount they charge my card. You could see the two different price of two company. read more

Worst rental car experience ever. This experience started with witnessing another customer get upset over the fact that she filled the car with gas, and they still charged her a fuel charge. This should've been a warning for me but I'd already booked and paid for the car. Mind you, I pre-paid for the car. When I got to the counter I upgraded to the best insurance for $26.99 a day. I had the car for two days and one night. I figured it would be worth it since I would be driving in the snow. The car was a piece of crap and really small, a Nissan versa. Whatever, this is what I chose to rent, so shame on me. My main gripe was when we dropped the car off. There was an additional $161 in fees. With the added insurance it should have only been $52 plus tax. But $161..!?!?! Wtf? I went down the receipt with the employee and she didn't know what the additional charges were for. The line items were all abbreviated on the receipt and she literally could not tell me what the additional charges were for. These guys act like they are the cheapest guys in town but they simply are not, because they hit you with hidden fees that they are unwilling to explain. I will never rent a car through Dollar rent a car again. read more

This has been the best rental car experience I have ever had. Travelled in from Australia to visit my little princess and was immediately welcomed with the low rates that Dollar provided. Upon arriving at the counter at the RNO arrivals section, I was greeted with a big smile by KATHY! She then proceeded to bestow her amazingness upon our journey and found us an amazing car with an amazing deal. Wait... there's more, she pulled out a map of Lake Tahoe and circled her favourite spots a Mong the lake and gave us the best intel on restaurants, times and hot spots. She is an absolute treasure to the Dollar Car Rental company and made our car rental experience so easy and comfortable. Weeks ahead I paid online for a standard SUV to show up to be asked how many people and bags I had in my group. Was told I don't need an SUV and that they had a full-size car for me. They said it was the holiday (4th of July weekend) so I get what I get. What is the purpose of doing a reservation and paying in advance if they won't keep to the contract? Finally took the full-size car after they said it'd be over an hour wait to see if an SUV came in, then took 45 minutes to get the keys anyway. The full-size car check engine light went on an hour later. Then was directed to take it to another location to exchange, when I got there there was no car rental company there and turned out that location was old and had closed years ago. I landed at Reno Airport, and needed to rent a car for the weekend. There's are many top rental-car companies at the airport competing for the best price and service. I needed to choose one, and I chose Dollar-rent a car. As you can tell, I didn't make any reservation to rent a car, and with many cars available and being in Reno by myself I chose a small economy car, which is the cheapest for $25.00 a day. I don't why I chose the cheapest car therefore the rental car company gave me the smallest, but newest car, which happen to be a White Chevrolet Aveo. How new? It's a 2008 car with less than 300 miles on the car. The small car also is great on gas. If I own this vehicle, a full tank of gas will go pretty far. I own and drive a Toyota Corolla and Sienna van, also I drive a Ford Crown Victoria at work, but this Chevrolet Aveo is so effin "slow". (Thank god, I don't own this slow-ass and weak car). I don't know how this car can make it up some of these Reno hills. On my way to Downtown Reno and blasting music from Flo-Rida, local people and families with their long-pickup with trailers look at my car, and say: "That Asian guy looks cute in that little white car!" This review is for Deanne. Terrible customer service. Our car had a check engine light go on right outside the airport. A brand new car with 2000 miles. Not a big deal. I said I would just return it and get another one. I paid for an upgrade and I assumed they would compensate me for the trouble of being on vacation and having to return the car. (Also note that I called their customer service number and was re routed multiple times and hung up on twice). Deanne gave me such attitude and told me that I didn't pay the correct amount (how is that my fault or my problem) and that there would be no compensation. I was annoyed but dealt with it. The last straw is when she then gave me a car that wasn't even the same level as the one I upgraded to. Are you kidding me? When you're on vacation with your family, including a 9 month old these aren't the kind of issues you want to deal with. It's sad because the other employees were nice and helpful, especially Rose, but one bad team member can ruin the whole bunch. I will never rent from Dollar again. read more
