Completely inept. I rented a car for our priest to officiate our son's wedding and then called to clarify that the car was booked from my account and that I added our priest as an additional driver. They confirmed that I had done everything correctly. When our priest went to get the car they said he couldn't get it, cancelled the reservation I made for him, and made him pay with his own card. They charged him almost double of what they quoted me. I've used National since 2004, but never again for me. You've been warned. All you can expect from National when you call is 'pass the buck' and 'I can't do that for security purposes' BS. read more

I rented a car here and set the return time to 11:00 AM in the app. National's late return policy notes that there is a "29 minute grace period for daily rentals." I returned the car at 11:29 AM (technically slightly earlier as I was chatting with the representative who came to scan the car). This was within the 29 minute grace period afforded by their own policy. Nevertheless, National still charged me for an extra hour at a cost equal to about 50%of another full day. This is quite clearly an unfair business practice that even violates the terms of National's own policies. I'll be filing complaints with the BBB and the Nevada AG's office to alert them this location is engaged in unfair and deceptive business practices. My recommendation is to not rent from this location or National and use another more reputable rental agency instead. read more

I am a big fan of National Rental Car, and my experience at the Reno airport location today reinforced my appreciation for this rental car company. As always with National, the experience to get my car was easy and pleasant - clean cars and friendly staff. But, what stood out today was the return experience. I commented to the attendant that the windshield needed to be scrubbed - there was a lot of dried tree sap on the fromt windshield that made it very difficult(/impossible to see when driving west at the end of the day. I told them this because I wanted to make sure the car was safe for the next renter. To my happy surprise, the attendant discounted the rental rate. I did not ask for that or expect it / but I wasn't going to turn it down! It may have cost them a few dollars today - but this was a very smart business move by National.... They'll continue to get my rental car business when I travel! read more

Rented a car for the weekend to go to a wedding in Northern California. There was only one person checking in renters for 3 companies: National, Alamo, and enterprise so it was a bit of a wait to get checked in. It was about 7 pm on a Friday night so I can imagine the line can get rather long which is a downside. I was upgraded from a compact sedan to a regular sedan. The vehicle was clean and a very new model Chevy Malibu. The person checking me in explained that National is for business travelers and so a bit more expensive but the cars are newer and better maintained than the other ones mentioned. I made a reservation well in advance to secure the best price. Upon arrival, I approached the counter, and the representative told me that my driver's ID couldn't be read by the scanner, which supposedly made it invalid. I showed my US passport and explained that it was a Real ID, with no prior issues or reasons for it to be problematic. I asked her to contact a manager to address the situation since the scanner was likely giving incorrect information, but she claimed that she was the Branch Manager and couldn't help further. I stepped away from the counter and called customer support. The customer support manager listened to my issue and asked me to hand the phone to the manager at the counter. After speaking with her, the manager scanned my driver's license again and confirmed that it was successfully verified this time. I lightheartedly remarked, without any hint of rudeness, "So, it turns out the issue was with the scanner." To my surprise, the manager then stated that she was canceling my reservation because I had been rude to her. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Even after that, I remained calm, as I didn't want to ruin the start of my vacation. I sincerely hope that no one else has to experience a situation like this, where a manager, for personal reasons, decides to humiliate you, causing you to lose time, money, and positive energy. read more

This is an uber convenient location at the airport, across from baggage is where you pick up the cars and if you have the option to just walk to the aisle, even better. My CC gave me the "elite" status, and I have worked hard to keep it. Of course you can visit other locations where you don't have the "airport" fees but the access and long hours keep me coming back. Great variety of cars to choose from. Tip choose a car, I usually get premium b/c you can choose a lesser car, like an SUV and get unlimited miles. Sometimes you don't get that. read more

What an absolute joke!!!! Why in the world would you have us stand in line inside the airport and then again outside in a cold parking lot ? I asked the outside employee why ? He said that the location was "unsecure" and the keys to cars had to picked up outside ? So then the question becomes why don't you have guests pick up keys from the inside ! As far as The Reno Branch goes it was just OK. My issue is that you cannot call them directly, the call goes to Nat's 1 800 lines. Second issue, they make it very unclear about their after-hours returns: My flight left at 605am, which means I needed to drop my car off ~ 4am, however I received mixed info on whether they actually had after hours drop off. My car contract stated they did not so I tried calling the Reno office and got the 1-800 desk and spoke to Joy and she said they have after hours. I spoke to two other CSR's and they said they do. Somewhere I read they were closed b/t midnight and 6am. Still not wanting to risk missing my flight the next morning or turning the car in at midnight I drove over to the rental facility the day before, big inconvenience. The young woman who I spoke with in the garage said someone will be there at 3am. I asked her if she could tell her age to please address the disparity in after-hours and she immediately snapped she has no control over that. I said but your mgr probably does, and she snaps nope, they dont. I said well he or she has a boss, run it up the chain. She walked away. Lastly, the three times I've rented with National (Emerald Isle) they have changed my reservation price considerably more than what was agreed upon for the reservation. It turns out they kept arbitrarily and stealthily adding the LDW on after the fact which drives up the cost quite a bit. My agreement DOES NOT need the LDW. Yet another major inconvenience to make them adjust it. Makes me wonder how many people they bilk when those folks dont investigate. National (emerald) used to be a GREAT rental car company and experience - not lately, folks. read more

Located right across from the terminal. Overall, they do a good job of getting people in/out quickly. Nice staff that will try to find the best car options for you (especially if an Emerald Club Member) but their selection is not always the best, which drives this rating. Even as an executive elite status, I have been stuck with general compact cars and very poor selection. Obviously not the end of the world but definitely holding them back from being a top of the line National location as I have seen at other airports. read more

THIS BRANCH KNOWINGLY PUTS THEIR CUSTOMERS IN UNSAFE SITUATIONS AND PUTS PROFIT OVER SAFETY. DO NOT USE THIS NATIONAL CAR RENTAL! I rent cars for work basically every week. I asked the people at the counter if I could get a car with 4 wheel drive because I'd be driving over the mountain pass, through Truckee and I felt it would unsafe to make that drive without 4 wheel drive. I was told no. I asked to speak with the manager to make my case. Up walks some snot-nosed 20 year old. I tell him I'd like a car with 4 wheel drive, there are literally dozens on the lot as we speak and its almost midnight. He tells me because I'm returning the car to San Jose, they need to keep all the 4 wheel drive vehicles on the lot. I tell him I'm making the exact drive they're saving them for and that he's knowingly putting me in an unsafe situation. He is unrelenting. This is what happens when companies hire zero-feel, zero life experience snot-nosed kids into management. They run a horrible business and put profit over common sense, customer safety. Good job, National. I rent so many cars with you guys. I'll try other companies if this is the level of customer care they offer. read more

Theives!!!! I accidentally left my jewelry LOCKED in the glove compartment and they did not help me at all retrieve my items. The lost and found employee DEBBIE has two broken toes so she "isn't able to walk down and look through all of the bins." Car selection is a joke. I am an executive member and I was given a generic car from regular aisle. When asked about a better car, I was offered an upgraded car for "only" $25 a day. When there is a lack of better cars in executive aisle, why not offer a better car to the executive members. That's the basic courtesy for not having an executive aisle. Disappointing! read more

Not happy with this location. I've been renting from National for 5 years since I started my government job and have earned executive elite status. Check my damn profile. You will see that not counting COVID in 2020, I have been renting non stop since 2017. By far, worst location. I am supposed to be able to pick ANY car on the lot. Why is this location different? You are still making money off me and my long term rentals. It's probably just whoever is working, but last time, there was an Asian man who let me take any car. Another time when National was closed on my flight in to Reno, an Enterprise rep helped me and also let me take any car. I'm thinking about taking my business elsewhere. This location treats me like I haven't given my business to you the past 4 years smdh. Awful location, and poor customer service. Didn't even hear me out, get a manager, listen, nothing smdh. Serious Lack of Customer Service!! Flew into Reno for a 4 day stay and reserved the car a month in advance. Also, I am a National Emerald Executive corporate account holder. The Reno location was a joke. I flew in during the middle of the day in the middle of the week. The parking lot was mostly empty. They had 2 cars parked in the Emerald Isle neither were what I reserved. The guy in the parking garage did not say anything except here is your car and started to walk off. I asked him to stop and what else was available and he said those two cars. This I knew was a lie. Since they store most of their cars at the off site location 1 mile away (I drove by the main location plenty of cars available over 100). They made NO attempt to offer me anything else to drive. They did NOT offer me a map or direction. They did NOT offer to tell me how to get out of the parking garage either. They clearly were going through the minimum motions to hand me keys and have me leave. They also made no attempt to offer to load luggage, open the car door, nothing. They were not busy they had 2 customers!! The car was also the base model unit for an Emerald Isle customer and was dirty (AWESOME)!! If this is how this company works FIRE all of these "customer service agents" in the parking garage they are USLESS!! read more

So let me start and say the national staff was friendly. But they messed up our reservation on the front end and after 30 minutes at 1am with three kids they said we'd have to fix the $200 extra charge when we returned the car. Great. And once they assigned the car they couldn't tell us the lots number. She literally told us the color of the car and the license plate and we can to go search for the car in the freezing cold, snow, dark with three kids. Upon returning the car they still couldn't fix the pricing even though they had the quote in the computer. Plus they left me waiting with kids forever. Just janky ass service. Low budget. The car was fine and the price was good, thanks to my tireless quest for the lowest rate on the Internet, I got a full sized premium nice car for $55 a day and unlimited mileage When we arrived, cars were backed up and they couldn't find our car. They were dazed and confused. We were in a bit of a hurry as we were getting married and when I mentioned to an attendant we were rushed, we got a lecture: In a sing-song way...."We have to clean the cars, wash them and vaccuum...nnn'kayyyy? ". Here is my official response to this 20 something punk: 1. REALLY? You wash your cars and stuff. I would have never guessed. What a burden for you and your business. I should have just shut up! Had I known you clean the cars, then surely I would expect a big delay. 2. Thanks for being so f'ing condescending. 3. I pay your salary, make an effort to apologize for your incompetence, rather then explain your business in a kindergarten way.. 4. I make a reservation so that you aren't cleaning my car at the last moment. 5. Screw you. As a car rental company it was solid and the vehicle was really good. National Car rental has reacted to COVID by closing customer options - requiring more interaction with people. Salt Lake City and Reno NV airport are the worst. No signs, stand in front me line with lots of other people only to be told you must go back inside to stand in another line then. Horrible. Con Artists... I rented a car from them through Priceline.com. It was reserved for me and I was good at pick up. They said their would be a $350.00 cleaning charge if the car was not brought back in the same condition it is picked up. On initial inspection this car was filthy on the inside with crumbs and dirt everywhere on the interior as if it had just been brought back and only the outside of it had been cleaned. On top of this the car was littered with dings and dents, which I showed to the attendant who was in the garage at the time. He told me not to worry as that was just regular wear and tare and we would not be liable for this. I took his word for it, bad idea as I was accused later when bringing it back that is was my fault and threatened by the attendant that I would have to pay for the dent repair. After our rental my friend and I detailed the car to better condition than when we rented the vehicle. It took us 4 hours and a lot of cleaning product along with doing a detailed wash of the outside as well. When I did return the car the attendant said we were good and the car was cleared with no cleaning fee. Then a second attendant came over and stated the same thing, "you are good to go and thanks for cleaning the car so well". This was after accusing me of the dents of course, noted above, to which I had to sign a paper stating they were already there. Time for a receipt right...no, because the attendant said her internet was conveniently down so she could not give me a receipt on the spot and one would be emailed to me. - Never received the receipt and still have no final receipt, but I did get my CC statement with the added $350.00 charge. When I attempted to contact the company directly to see what the issue was they emailed or called me back. I attempted 4 times to solve this by way of them directly with no communication at all. My last resort was to dispute the overcharge with my CC company to which they received a response and forwarded it on to me about it being a cleaning charge. I never signed off that this was ok in any way and am now getting screwed by National Car Rental and my own CC company. I am attempting to dispute this again and am willing to take my friend who was with me as a witness to note this car was indeed detailed and cleaned. Kind of ridiculous considering the rental it self already cost me $1500.00 for the week already, not including the money spent and time it took to detail the car before bringing it back to them. Stay away unless you want to be scammed. read more

I read great things about the Emerald Club so I joined and reserved my first rental with National at RNO. The experience was great from beginning to end. It was easy to reserve the rental on the National website. The price was 37% higher than competitors' mid size car prices but fair given the added choice and convenience that comes with the Emerald Club. I needed to upgrade to an AWD vehicle for snow driving. The customer service rep gave me a list of AWD options at different price points. I opted for the Kia Sportage. The car was well maintained and drove great in snow. I downloaded the National app to check out the virtual aisle feature. I appreciate being able to pull up vehicle details from the app and the return date/time reminders. My experience has convinced me to stick with the Emerald Club. read more

I generally rent from National on personal trips due to their generous Emerald rewards program as I can choose cars from the Executive Selection aisle. Unfortunately, the Reno location doesn't have that available. However, after showing up with 5 people and really in need of the upgrade I'm accustomed to, George came to the rescue. He went above and beyond his call of duty to have an suv that had just been returned cleaned and turned around for us in just a few minutes. I have been a National customer for years and George's brilliant customer service helped reinforce why. However, the car I supposedly reserved MONTHS prior should have been there and ready (Hence 1 star less) Also, While searching the vehicle for anything I might have forgotten, I found the car's manual in the trunk with the spare tire...is this a common practice now? It belongs in the glovebox - and would've been useful to have instead of figuring out the controls with a CHP waiting at the window--- long story there. JM read more

HORRIBLE! UNTRUSTWORTHY! i returned a car to national in the reno airport and dropped my ipod itouch under the seat. The employee checking my car in said he would look under the seat (thought he was being a gentle man because i was wearing a dress) he stated there was no ipod, so i assumed it was in my purse. I went back TEN minutes later and asked politely to look in the car again. they refused and said they knew nothing about the i pod. i was listening to it on the way there so i KNOW it was in the car! I DO NOT RECOMMEND NATIONAL TO ANYONE! also i called, and filed a missing report, and of coarse it didnt show up. worse part is, my name and telephone number was engraved on the back, so the employee could have easily returned it! read more

The attendants that work the booth at National Car Rental Reno are the greatest! I had a special concern and the gentleman that helped me was very nice and accommodating. We placed a rental car reservation in November 2016 for pick up at the national car rental at the Reno airport. When we arrived in March 2017 we were told they gave away our reservations. They had no cars for us to rent. We had a printout showing our reservation and the counter agent was rude and ugly and basically said sorry we have no cars. They did not offer any solutions. When we asked to speak to the manager we were told the manager was too busy and because we were not Emerald club members would not speak to us. They left us stranded in the Reno airport. read more

Disappointing experience this last trip. Arrived and they had no cars available....a line of us waiting. Because of my Elite status, they did grab a vehicle from a sister rental company but it was a huge Yukon XL, which I didn't want, but took since there was nothing else. Huge gas guzzler. I only traveled within Reno...didn't go out of town, to Tahoe, or anything. Weather was in 80s all week. When I returned vehicle, I was accused of hail damage on the roof. I vigorously protested and filed appeal. Unbelievable. read more

I have rented from National exclusively for years and have never had a bad experience. I've rented at RNO at least half a dozen times and the service has always been satisfactory. My check-out and check-in were both completed in a few minutes. The car was clean and mechanically perfect. There was a rather limited choice of cars. That's the only thing that has kept them from earning the fifth star. read more
