This was the worst car rental experience of our lives. We rented at the downtown Flagstaff office on Rte.66. They brought the car in from the airport and it was filthy--completely caked with mud. They suggested we take it through the car wash nearby and save the bill. The girl in the office said the tank was full, but when we turned it on it was only half-full. The windshield wipers were not the right size and just flapped around. We washed it at the car wash and then headed to Sedona. Less than halfway there, I realized there was a crack in the upper right corner of the windshield. (Now visible because the windshield was clean). We pulled over and called Avis in both Flagstaff locations, but they didn't have a car to swap out. They promised they would, "Make a note of it and we would never be charged." We tried all other Avis outlets within two hours and nobody had a car to swap out. We finally just kept it and went on with our trip. When we returned it in Las Vegas, as planned, my husband told them what had happened and they said, "Don't worry, we know that you should not be charged for this." A few days after we got home, we had a letter from Avis saying they had charged $840 to our credit card to pay for replacing the windshield! I called someone there and got a runaround. Then I remembered that I had charged it on my Chase Sapphire, which gives primary rental car coverage. I talked to them, they were great, and put me in touch with a very easy process for submitting a claim and supporting documents. They dealt with Avis for us. (I'd love to know how). In less than a week I had a refund deposited in my bank account. Whew! I tell this tale because I strongly urge people not to use Avis (or Budget, their other name). Their cars are messes and they are crooks who will try to stick you for damage you did not do. You have been warned! read more

Terrible. We did not get the vehicle type we reserved and paid for. The staff at this store has no interest or investment in customer service and openly lied to us. According to AVIS, an SUV is a "specialized vehicle" that is available only at their discretion regardless of the reservation and payment made. They had multiple such vehicles on the lot, but we were forced to take a crappy little compact for our timed trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. We were offered no price accommodation and no opportunity to upgrade, and our requests were refused. The motto of this team is, literally, "take it or leave it." We were firm but kind and the sheer animosity and lack of care this team demonstrated was astounding. We normally never use AVIS but did so this time purely for the location. Rest assured we will NEVER subject ourselves to this kind of demeaning, zero value transaction ever again. Shame on you, AVIS. Your managers and training are astonishingly poor. We strongly advise anyone reading this to avoid doing business here. read more

On 11/8/25 we rented a car from Avis Budget group at Flagstaff Airport to be returned on 11/14, at a cost of $423.94. On 11/13 my husband lost vision in his left eye. We went to the ER and were told he might need surgery and could not fly home 11/14. He was to see a specialist the morning of the 14th and possibly be brought to Phoenix Hospital. I called Budget the night of 11/13 and was told by their agent that we could bring the car to Phoenix airport on 11/15 and would be charged $525 total, instead of $423.94 as we would have the car an extra day. I asked if they needed medical support and was told no. Then we receive our credit card bill and were charged $922.87. When we called we were told to supply proof that their representative said $525. We had his name but had no means to record the call. But Budget did record the call. We were advised it was being recorded for training purposes or something like that. They can go back and check the recording if they want. All we are asking is for them to honor the price that their agent acting on their behalf told us. We told them we were contacting the BBB and then they asked for medical support which we promptly provided on 12/24 and we can't get a response since. read more

My mom and I were driving from California to Georgia because my husband is deployed and I decided to go back home. Our car had a check engine light on within the first six hours. We decided to go to the nearest Avis in the morning. First thing my mom had said was that the lady that was helping her had an attitude. And had yelled at her that there were no cars. I can understand on such short notice there may not be cars available but the attitude towards my mom whose son in law just left for deployment was not needed. There has to be some sort of line for customer service. They have no respect for military families at all. I would steer clear of this location and possibly just try the airport instead. read more

Wow, the experience couldn't have been worse. Rented many cars and this was just so bad. Multiple issues but the worst was that after I confirmed with both the general Avis/Budget customer service as well as the actual location, the day prior to pick up, that we needed and there would be a car seat for my small child, they didn't have it. I was forced to drive 2 1/2 hours out of the mountains with no car seat for my child. I had no other options and barely made my flight because it took them over an hour after I had already pre-checked to get my rental car. Child safety seats are required by Arizona law, and they didn't care. Should a rental car company be in business if they're don't, or choose not, to follow the law and provide their customers with what they are legally responsible for? Driving down 7000 feet of elevation out of the mountains, where the speed limit is 75 mph, is not the easiest of drives. A rental car company, who is responsible for following the law, just put their customer in an unsafe position, that wasn't legal and just said "sorry, it is what it is". It took an hour to get the vehicle even after I had pre checked. Do yourself a favor do not rent from this location, go to the airport or another location because this location is just the pits. When I attempted to address the issue with management at the actual location i was completely blown off. Again Avis/Budget could have cared less. read more

They provided me with a dirty car and told me that their car wash was broken, which is of course BS because there's a car wash right down the street that they could've gone to. The inside of the car looked like it was cleaned by a monkey, and I actually had to go get it cleaned before my trip. I just relocated and needed a car to get around until my car was shipped. I rented a car for 6 days. The car ran good, customer service was nice, however an issue aroused when I wanted a ride to my vehicle located only 4 miles, 10min drive away. I was informed that their policy only allows for a 2 mile radius for drop offs. This was an issue as I already paid $500 for the rental and also had to pay for an uber to my vehicle. It is my goal that management can revise this policy with a customer focused outcome. read more

They did not give us the full-size car we rented and then tried to convince us the tiny economy car they gave us was actually better than a full size. They were rude and dismissive of our concerns. They were turning other people who had cars reserved away and told us we were lucky we even got a car even though we over paid massively for what we ended up getting. And then the car we got was full of dings and dents and in poor shape and they did not even acknowledge that until we asked him to come out and do so. Never rent from Avis in Flagstaff. read more

We always rent from Avis here in FLG. Nice fleet but the office needs a feminine touch. A woman maybe to help the guys here learn prioritization and filling requests properly. In the covid era, it was advertised as having hands-free drop off. Yeah, I interacted with no one and dropped the keys off. Didn't expect that I would be charged $50 more than I was supposed to be charged and not be provided ANY receipt after dropoff to even understand why I was getting charged extra. (In this digital age, you can't send me an email??). THEN turns out it was a gas charge despite having returned the car with 100% full gas. Luckily I had pictures and receipts but boy I was not happy with this process this "safe" drop off process which they're just using to cheat people out of their money. Ridiculous. read more

The Avis car rental in Flagstaff is amazing. (I had some issues, see review of Arabellas in Sadona). Upon arrival at Avis in the Flagstaff Airport. I found the airport is not Disabled friendly. However, I was blown away by how nice, helpful, and professional they are! I got the best service I've experienced from, any rental car agency. I was sick, disabled, frightened and alone. I had arranged for my stay at the Hilton by the Phoenix airport so I could fly out from there instead of Flagstaff. I called and asked if I could return the vehicle elsewhere or turn it in early and try to find some other way to Phoenix. They told me they had to clear it with the owner and they would call me back. Not more then 10 minutes later the Owner himself was calling me back. He was so wonderful and kind. I told him what had happened to me. He arranged for me to drop the car off in Phoenix. It was as if he was my guardian angel sent to rescue me. I will be renting from Avis from now on. I was treated with the kind of customer service you rarely see these days. Overall experience was fine from check in to check out. Friendly and efficient employees I was in and out pretty quick both times. My problem stems from when the credit card charges populated. There was an accidental/mistaken/inadvertent $15 fuel charge tacked on to the rental charges. I literally had filled the gas tank within a mile of their location, so I called the office and asked about it. No one seemed to know why the charges were added. I was told that a credit was being submitted to corporate and I should see a credit on my card in "a week or two". That was August 23rd, checked today again and saw no credit. When I called back today I was put on hold for a lengthy time. I was then told that I should see a credit "today or tomorrow at the latest. I'm a little skeptical because they really didn't take down many details or the spelling of name and stuff. I'll give them a few more days before I contest the charges with my credit card company. Its too bad because otherwise it was a good experience. Need to figure how to fix apparent Avis mistakes quickly without the run arounds. read more

If I ask to pick up a car at 7:30, shouldn't it be ready when I arrive at 7:45? Shouldn't the car be clean and free from the zillion bugs on the front end the last driver met? And if not, don't hose it off and pretend it's been washed. And shouldn't the tank be full if you're going to claim it went out full? Apparently not. Why not one star? We made a rental one week before a moving truck pickup. The store did not have a truck when we showed up and lectured us about confirming our own reservation prior to picking up the truck the morning of. Customer service was incredibly rude and made racially charged comments towards my family. Save yourself the heartache of expecting a reservation to do what it's supposed to and then have to deal with an unprofessional staff who adds to the stress of having to move. read more

Rented a one-way truck from Tempe to Flagstaff was supposed to return on Friday I called customer care and requested I was able to keep it an extra day I returned on Sunday at 4:45 I took photos to prove what time I returned it and dropped it off at. I was rudely told by the so-called manager at this location that because they were closed I was charged an extra day even though I was told by customer care I would not incur any extra charges to return it to the location even though they were closed. I was also told that they did not have Internet or email access at this location so therefore she could not provide a receipt directly to me. I was charged on two different occasions to different total amounts I would avoid dropping off this location if you were planning on returning the vehicle after their business hours even though that there is an overnight box I would not trust it or do you like I did and take photo proof. I rented through the Airport in Flagstaff and that was by far a much better experience (I would give them 5 stars!). This one the people aren't really friendly or all that helpful. Let me preface this review with that my company usually uses Enterprise car rental, and I will never be choosing anything other than Avis Budget. The staff has been kind, friendly, and helpful. My reservation has had to be extended twice due to complications with my vehicle repairs, and Avis has been so flexible with me, it is incredible. I had never rented a car before, and thankfully they made sure I was well informed about all costs and liabilities associated with renting a car. We had a terrible experience with the Avis branch in Flagstaff. Rented a car for the weekend to go up to the Grand Canyon and unfortunately spent a good portion of the weekend doing maintenance on the crappy car they gave us instead of enjoying our vacation. Had to go to the gas station to fix the tire pressure three times in two days. As if that wasn't bad enough, got an error message that the engine oil was down to 29% and needed to be changed. Spent an hour on hold, including being hung up on by an Avis agent, before finally reaching another customer service agent on the phone who was not at all helpful, their only suggestion was for us to waste even more of our vacation time changing the oil, rather than offering to send someone to fix their own piece of trash car. And the manager, Darren was a complete jerk on the phone, he was very rude and hung up on me. There was one employee, Paul, that was helpful, and the rest were rude and awful. If you're renting a car from Flagstaff, rent from any other company besides Avis. read more

I live in Dallas, Tx and was in town on vacation. The morning I got there I was having issues with the tires on the Camaro SS I rented. Called this local office told them what was going on and because they couldn't just replace my car because of its special nature. They got me an appointment at a tire place in town and had the tires replaced for me without a problem. Awesome job! read more

At the airport I was told that the bill would show a fuel surcharge but it would be removed when it was returned. Every year, we rent a car 2 times during the year. Every time they can't find us, they either put our reserve under the wrong car rental, or they can't find it without the conformation number. Today it happened again, this makes 3 years in a row. It was bad because we had forgotten the conformation at home. We live 14 miles away from the store at 1426 Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ, this is just one way mind you. It's 8:30 a.m. rush hour, and my husband is suppose to be working. So we call on the way back to the store and give the conformation No., of coarse it was found. We get the car, and it is Not washed, also on the way back to my house the dash is flashing at me, it needs maintenance ( low washer fluid )............ Really ?? Yes, my husband, was mad, can you blame him. You people need to figure out a way to wash the cars and trucks you rent out. Just because the City of flagstaff screwed you, when you moved locations, and they won't let you use your non-permanent car wash. Strike up a deal with one of the local car washes........I want to be reimbursed for the washer fluid. NOT PLEASED AT ALL !!! read more
