First let me say I didn't rent a car but the service from Craig was so so far superior than any rental car agency I have ever been with in 35 years. My car breaks down in Kingman Az. and we're frantically trying to get to Flagstaff for our sons freshman orientation at N.A.U. It's Sunday and all car rentals are closing @ 6 or way before also the car will be towed then we have to get to Hertz by the way it's 115 degrees. I've been turned down by ( I won't say they're not worth my breath) a lot . Told Craig our predicament and he said no problem, I said I can't give you a time we will be there ( it's 145 miles) he said no problem I'll wait. I said if the tow truck driver won't take us I'll get an Uber, Craig said he would pick us up. Well the Tow truck didn't show and we had to limp into Flagstaff. But seriously Craig went out of his way to help us, although I have not met Craig, I will never forget him. He is management material and Hertz should be proud to have him on board. Staggeringly unprofessional. I had booked and paid for my car 6 weeks before my trip, and when I arrived to pick it up, they told me it was "first come, first serve" and that they had given away my car. I nearly got stranded at the airport (which is in the middle of nowhere), and arranging for a taxi and then last-minute transportation to Phoenix cost me more than $300. The employees at this location didn't even bother marking in the system that my car was canceled (by them), so I had to call Hertz customer service to get a refund. And of course they DGAF and just shrugged their shoulders at the terrible customer service. They didn't offer me so much as a voucher for future rentals, not that I would have taken it. HORRIBLE!!! A 0 star review is warranted, but i didn't have that option. My car was having trouble on a family trip to the grand canyon and died in Flagstaff. I was able to get ahold of a very rude lady at the location. I asked if there were one way rentals so that my family could get back to phoenix and replied that she could not make the reservation over the phone. Turns out they were sold out. She wasted my time and my families. I dont understand why a peraon would not simply say im sorry we do not have any rentals available??????? Quick*, simple, easy check in and check out. No problems. *When I dropped the car off the agent literally sprinted to do a review of the car even though we weren't in a hurry. Friendly service. Clean car. It's easy to find in such a small airport. The car pickup and drop off location is right outside the terminal, only a few yards away. I'd recommend this place in the future. They got me set up quickly while managing several other people. Please note there is no Gold service line. However, they do have a good enough CRM system that recognized my Gold status by using my drivers license. read more

Therefore, leaving me stranded and not able to execute my original travel plans. I was unable to find a last minute one way rental so had to change my flights to accomodate this change. Flight was delayed so called them ahead of time to ask about the rental and they asked for our flight # and promised they would stay open, lo and behold we get there at the airport and they're freaking closed. Their reservation system obviously meaningless since when I arrived at Flagstaff today I was told they had no cars and had had none for days. This after I got a confirmation email two days prior assuring me I need not contact them to check. When I asked how I was supposed to get to my hotel 45 snowy minutes down the freeway I was blithely told to try and get an Uber. While not rude the customer service person obviously did not care. On the wall was posted a sign that Ubers were generally not available. I can only imagine what the cost would be anyway if I got and then I'd be stuck for days with no car and no way to get back to the airport. I know no one in Arizona and was traveling alone. I relied upon them, a well known American company, with a confirmed reservation. I assumed, at the very least, that hertz would have notified me that my reservation was useless. So I could have some time to scramble. But no. No text no email no phone call. Just a nice surprise near the end of the day at the airport. For everyone. Thankfully the people at National found me a car which I paid twice as much for. I can not believe this is how Hertz treats it's customers. read more

I had a reservation at 7:30 PM at this location on 10/9/20 through Priceline. When I arrived, Hertz was closed. I was told on the phone to come back in the AM & had to take a pricey cab to my destination & then back again in the am. Again, when I got there no car still. I ended up taking cabs/uber's the 1st day & a half of my vacation due to this mess up. Which added up to more than $100 extra. Hertz was unwilling to reimburse me for all the trouble; ie the extra money I had to spend on cabs & pretty much ruining my vacation. Very poor customer service. I'm sure they could afford to make it right; but refused. Priceline blames Hertz. Hertz blames Priceline. It is their job to ensure these are booked current. Oh.... My.... God....!!!!!! My horrible VW with 38,000 miles broke down in a neighboring town as I was headed home to LA from Albuquerque. After staying in Flagstaff a couple days (beautiful place BTW), I needed to get home for a couple days. I met Katelyn and gave her a rundown of my story and she was more than helpful. All they had was a minivan which I didn't want. She kindly told me to check with the other rental service counters but either no one had a car or they were extremely pricey. Once I came back to Katelyn, she didn't judge, she got me set up and told me I could swap the car once I got home. I'm really starting to enjoy Hertz and this one has a mom and pop vibe because it's so small. Hertz has done enough in my book to where I will always go to them first to rent a car. I rented a car here because it was the next closest HERTZ open to where I was staying in Sedona AZ I made my reservation online and the computer or online said there was a Mid size SUV available for me to pick up. My husband and I jump in my moms car in the middle of a MONSOON drive the 89A route which at the time was having rock slides and flooding finally get to Hertz only to find out after driving 1 hour in horrible rainy conditions that they didnt have the car we rented and wouldnt have it to the next morning and asked me Why I didnt call to make sure they had it. OK #1 I did call, and no one in their office answered. WHen we got thier the facility looked empty they were in no shape or form Busy! #2 I figured I just had rented the car 1 hour and half before and the computer said it was there and seing I didnt get anyone on the phone when I called I figured it was there. #3 I ask to speak to te Manager and was informed the Manager went home sick for the day. #4 I asked the girl at the counter what they were going to do for my inconvience and she said they coudlnt do anything to change the prices, or give a disount. #5 I asked her if in the morning will the car really be there? Because we were coming from Sedona and she asked me why I didnt rent from Sedona instead. AS if I was an idot!?!? Sedona was completly out of cars and thats why I couldn't rent from them. I will never rent from Hertz in Flagstaff again. They have the worst custimer service, and no empathy or compassion for their customers. I am sorry but I was paying over $1200 for a 1 wk rental I expect to be sympathized with and treated with more respect. They didnt even take us out to inspect the car. When I called the number on the card to make a complaint or speak to someone no returns the call or answers. No apology, or a try to explain things. We will not return here again! read more

We got a flat in the Grand Canyon and Hertz told us that we can get it fixed in any other Hertz location. The Flagstaff airport is the closest Hertz so we drove there on a donut, only to be told that they don't have any cars and they can't do anything. They then recommended a tire replacement shop to us, who turns out to be dishonest and overcharged us. Overall, because of the Flagstaff Hertz and their recommendation, we did not get a new car and paid over $200 for a tire that was not accepted by Hertz. I feel like the location can be better prepared by situations like this and at the minimum, not recommend a dishonest business for us to change our tire. read more

I have honestly had a great experience every time I have come here. This location has made me switch from renting cars down in the valley and driving up to renting all my cars here. I rent almost on a weekly basis, and I will admit I'm not the easiest to please since I give this company so much business. However, this location is the only location I would recommend to a friend. I love hertz because of the work discount, but most of their other locations don't know what customer service is. This location should help train all other locations, especially the Phoenix Sky Harbor one. I've worked with every employee, and have yet to be anything less than amazed. read more

Left us stranded! Charged us $871.41 OVER our confirmed reservation quote. We reserved a car with Hertz at the Flagstaff airport for 3 pm pickup on 9/12/20. Flight arrived a little after 3 pm. Got to the Hertz counter to find them CLOSED. Our rental confirmation said open until 4 pm. We received no notification of this early closure. Called Hertz 800 # and was told "sorry. come back tomorrow." Hertz offered no other option. The three other rental companies (still open BTW) said all their cars were booked. Taxi ride was quoted as $180 one-way to our hotel (1.5 hours away). Begged National for a day rental. That agent relented and rented us a Nisson pickup truck for 24 hours ($86 + gas). Drove the 1.5 hours to our hotel. Got up at the crack of dawn to drive back to Flagstaff to be at the Hertz counter when they opened at 8am. When the agent did arrive and started processing our paperwork, I noticed Hertz still had our return location as El Paso, Tx. Told the agent I had tried to change that last June on the Hertz website but the website wouldn't allow further changes (we had changed our itinerary multiple times due to Covid). I had called Hertz C/S to get them to make the return location change. Was told at the time that they did but upon pickup saw that it had not. Flagstaff agent tried to update the return but said his system would not allow him to. I made the rental and tried calling Hertz C/S again the next night to update the return location. They said the system wouldn't let them make the change - that the local agent had to. I told them to please note the car would be returned to Phoenix - not El Paso. Upon checking the car in at Phoenix, return agent said they'd email our receipt. Surprise, surprise. The receipt included $871.41 of "additional" charges. We had the car one day less (due to their stranding us in Flagstaff) and returned the car in Phoenix instead of El Paso. They charged us $1,396.85. Our reserved rental agreement was for $525.44. I've spoke to Hertz C/S twice this morning to no avail. My last question to them was "what could we have done differently to avoid these additional charges?" C/S rep could not answer my question. Moral of the story: Beware when renting from Hertz. We will NEVER again. read more

Hertz will ruin your travel plans and do nothing to make it right. Their agents lost my reservation because they "hadn't updated the manifest in a while" and turned me away. I finally got them to admit their mistake and, even though I had literally just left the parking lot, they said "Oh we can't wait for you to come back, we close in ten minutes and it's policy not to let employees have overtime." I'm in customer service, if I make a mistake I am answering the emails, taking the calls, staying late until it's done right. My mistake, my problem, my effort and time to make it right with that customer. Great to know their customers aren't worth the time to look into things before sending me away without help or an answer, good to know I'm not worth 5 minutes of their time, I'm not worth making it right. read more

I had booked a $60 rental and had to cancel a week earlier because Expedia had goofed on the flight reservation. I called to cancel and was told that there was a $50 cancelling fee. I asked if there was anything she could do because it was out of my control and I'd only be saving $10 and she said no. When I told her that this would be the last time I would ever use their service she just asked to confirm, "so you want to cancel the reservation". They clearly don't want my business. I hope the $50 is worth it. I've already passed on them twice since because I would much rather be valued as a customer literally anywhere else. read more

I had the WORST experience with Hertz Rent-A-Car at Flagstaff airport. I arrived around 6pm, straight off the plane.. stopped to use the restroom (as most people do when getting off a flight), headed to the counter with my Hertz reservation I made 2 MONTHS prior only to find out that they rented all of their vehicles and had none left. What made the situation worse was that the girl behind the counter told me that she was just giving their remaining cars away by who asked first. So, had I not stopped to the bathroom, I would have left that day with my reserved vehicle. The fact that I am a gold member who had a reservation for several months meant nothing. It's who walks the fastest. The girl behind the counter then proceeds to tell me how her manager "left her there alone" and she was authorized to stay 30 minutes longer but then she had to leave... leaving all of the remaining Hertz customers S.O.L. with no cars. I asked her what the plan was, if she could at least pay for me to get a taxi to my destination until they had a car for me.. her answer? "I'm not authorized to do that". She then refused to call the manager. I get that situations like this happen, but have a contingency in plan to take care of the guests you just screwed over. Luckily, another rental agency had a vehicle I was able to reserve so I cancelled my reservation with Hertz. The girl behind the counter then PROMISED ME a $25 voucher for my troubles. Funny thing is, I got back home, checked my Hertz GOLD MEMBER account guess what wasn't there? I called Hertz customer service to inquire about my $25 credit only to be told that that was something she should have given me there at the counter. Customer service then gave me enough points for one free day rental. So thanks for that. If flying into Flagstaff and renting from Hertz, make sure you take an early flight or haul it from the plane straight to the desk or you may be walking. read more

Reserved a car a week in advance at flagstaff location. Called when we got to town to pick up car. They informed us that they had no cars available even with a reservation. They claimed they overbooked and had 12 people on a waiting list. they had already charged us for the 4 day rental. We never received a email or a call letting us know so we could make other arrangements, Called customer service to be put on hold for 45 minutes waiting to talk to a supervisor they disconnected the call while on hold. It seems that hertz took our money without any intention of, or the means to provide a service [what's the word for that?] Thankfully Flagstaff Rentals came to the rescue and saved our vacation. read more

Arrived on time to be told it would be a few minutes for a car. ONE hour later we got a car. What bothers me is not being updated what was going on. Then when we were given a car I asked, 'is it clean?' She replied, 'yes it is.' When I walked out to the car, it definitely was not cleaned on the outside, not even wet from being rinsed off. We have rented from Hertz all over the world with mostly courteous, professional staff. The experience at this location was so horrendous that if it weren't for the fact that it's a franchise we would never rent from them agsin. We had specifically called in advance to ensure we would get a car with cruise control due to a bad knee and a long drive ahead of us. No one at the airport location would answer the phone after trying for almost 2 hours to get through. Finally the 800 number transferred us to that location. The manager (owner it turns out) doubly ensured us that yes the car would have that feature. We arrived and there was no such car. Furthmore the owner was condescending and my fiance was called a liar. Harsh words were exchanged for several minutes and like a weak schoolyard bully his workers pounced on us as well. It escalated so shockingly quick I'm not even sure how or why it got so bad. We called the main Hertz office who apologized profusely due to our superb track record with them and a district manager actually called in a reservation for us as well. Employees refused to honor it stating they answered to no one The other rental car companies surrounding them offered to help us but they didn't have any vehicles that could go one way. Flagstaff is largely a ghost town in the summer so we were literally stranded for two days. Beware of this location and take your business elsewhere! I would have given this location 0 stars but yelp insists I put at least one on. They seriously do not deserve it. read more

I will NEVER rent from Hertz again. I rented a vehicle from the Flagstaff Airport that I booked online in advance through AAA. When I picked up the car the representative working the desk was nice enough but there was one person working and four people waiting to rent vehicles. The man in front of me was very upset by that because he was a gold member. I was supposed to drive from Flagstaff to Salt Lake City to Denver. I paid for full coverage of the vehicle but not Roadside assistance because I have AAA Roadside Assistance. The first problem I had was that we got a flat tire on the front passenger side on the highway near Park City, Utah. The woman I spoke to at Flagstaff told me there was nothing she could do from Flagstaff and asked why I didn't check the tires before I left. I called Roadside assistance next and the woman I spoke to was very helpful. She told me Hertz would pay for the tire to be changed and found a place nearby for me to take it to. The tire got replaced and I moved on. Next, on our way to Denver International Airport we got a blowout on the I70 highway in the left lane on the driver front tire and were forced to cross lanes of traffic to pull off the highway (very scary experience). I then proceeded to call roadside service. The woman who I spoke to this time said there was nothing she could do because I didn't purchase roadside service. She asked me why the last tire company didn't check the rest of the tires? I told her I don't know, I don't work there and the company spoke directly to a Hertz representative for instructions on what they should fix and payment info. I told the woman I was going to miss my flight and she told me I would have to discuss that with customer service. I proceed to call the Denver location and someone tells me there is nothing they can do because the contract location is Flagstaff. I call Flagstaff and a woman tells me she is the manager and there is nothing she can do because I didn't purchase roadside, maybe I should call AAA she said. We change the tire ourselves, miss our flight, complain to a manager at the DIA location who was the ONLY person trying to be helpful in this terrible mess. She told me she is going to leave the contract open even though I had returned the car and contact Flagstaff herself because this is a safety concern and I deserve some sort of reimbursement. She also said she would include notes on why she left the contract open. EITHER NOBODY AT THIS COMPANY READS THE NOTES OR THEY WEREN'T WRITTEN. The next day that same manager calls me and said all she could get Flagstaff to agree on was reimbursement for my flight change fee and gas reimbursement even though three people missed their flights and waited on stand-by all day (they were not the contract holders). All together they agreed to give me $60 off a 6 day rental and because the woman in Denver valued customer service, she threw in a free day rental (that I will never use because I am so disgusted with the level of customer service, professionalism, and plain humanity the company displayed). This morning (I dropped the car off two days ago) I get a message from the control department telling me I did not return the rental vehicle and to avoid legal action I must call them right back. I call them back and ask to speak with a manager. No managers work in that department they tell me. They ask me questions about when I returned the vehicle, whom I handed the keys to, etc. and I still want to speak to a manager so they transfer me to customer service. The woman tells me that I can't speak to a manager because the contract is still open (therefor I must still have the vehicle). I ask her if she is saying that a supervisor is unwilling to speak with me unless my contract is closed? After going back and forth she finally gets a supervisor who also tells me there is nothing they can do for me because the contract is open. I tell her she will listen to my concerns or feel free to hang up on me. She does listen and still says there is nothing she can do. I just now get a voicemail from a different manager who says he is confused as to why my contract isn't closed when I was supposed to return the vehicle Wednesday. He is unable to talk to the manager I dealt with before because she is not working today so if I could call him back to clear up the confusion that'd be great. Bottom line, Hertz is quite literally the worst company I have ever dealt with. They not only do not value customer service or professionalism but they endanger lives and don't even have a system to fix their own mistakes because they believe they don't make them. I didn't even have a Yelp account before this experience but I felt it necessary I share if only it helps even one person from dealing with their shit. read more

Flagstaff airport is a small airport so picking up and dropping off a rental car is very simple. Hertz and all the other car rental counters are loacated at the baggage claim area and the parking lot for rental cars is just next to it. I did book a Hertz car online so I just came to the counter, showed my ID and credit card to get my key. It took less than 5 minutes. However, I experienced 2 following issues that everyone needs to check when renting a car. 1. The Hertz staff at the counter told me my car was at the stall #5. When I got there, I pushed all the buttons on the remote control but nothing worked. Fortunately, I met another Hertz staff and asked him to check the remote control. He finnaly figured out that I came to the wrong car. Although the key had a label saying that the stall number was 5, I should have checked its license plate too. 2. On my 2nd day, I figured out a defect of the lock system of my car. After locking my car using the remote control, I just tried pulling the front door handle on the driver side to make sure it's locked. I was totally surprised when I heard "beep beep" and then the driver door could be opened normally. The lock system was only deactivated when my finger touched the inner side of the door handle. If I touched the outside of it, nothing happened. Also, it happened with one door handle only. However, that's the 1st door which any thief will also try to check before breaking into a car. Note: My car was Toyota Prius. read more
