This was the worst car rental experience of our lives. We rented at the downtown Flagstaff office…read moreon Rte.66. They brought the car in from the airport and it was filthy--completely caked with mud. They suggested we take it through the car wash nearby and save the bill. The girl in the office said the tank was full, but when we turned it on it was only half-full. The windshield wipers were not the right size and just flapped around. We washed it at the car wash and then headed to Sedona. Less than halfway there, I realized there was a crack in the upper right corner of the windshield. (Now visible because the windshield was clean). We pulled over and called Avis in both Flagstaff locations, but they didn't have a car to swap out. They promised they would, "Make a note of it and we would never be charged." We tried all other Avis outlets within two hours and nobody had a car to swap out. We finally just kept it and went on with our trip. When we returned it in Las Vegas, as planned, my husband told them what had happened and they said, "Don't worry, we know that you should not be charged for this." A few days after we got home, we had a letter from Avis saying they had charged $840 to our credit card to pay for replacing the windshield! I called someone there and got a runaround. Then I remembered that I had charged it on my Chase Sapphire, which gives primary rental car coverage. I talked to them, they were great, and put me in touch with a very easy process for submitting a claim and supporting documents. They dealt with Avis for us. (I'd love to know how). In less than a week I had a refund deposited in my bank account. Whew! I tell this tale because I strongly urge people not to use Avis (or Budget, their other name). Their cars are messes and they are crooks who will try to stick you for damage you did not do. You have been warned!

Larissa who picked us up was super friendly and got us to Enterprise safe and sound. I appreciated how hard everyone worked to make sure we had a vehicle which met our needs. Having gone to other car rental agencies and discovered there wouldn't be a car for days, this experience was a breath of fresh air especially on a tight vacation timeline. Note, since it is quite busy, be sure to build in some buffer time for pickup and drop-off. Also, when calling, make sure you're speaking to someone at the local office since sometimes the corporate line doesn't relay info to them. Can't recommend them enough!

Pre register and input all of your details ahead of time and it will be a very short transition at the counter. Sign the documents, they hand you the keys and direct you to the pick up parking lot adjacent to baggage claim to get in the vehicle and be on your way. Our flight was delayed so I called Budget to let them know we would arrive in the evening instead of the afternoon. The team was notified with my flight info and I expected to pick up a car at 7pm. Despite this no one was at the counter and I was told the team typically leaves anywhere from 3pm-5pm. Lack of transparency and professionalism. Avoid Budget.
