Make sure you take pictures of any scratches or damages before you takeoff and make sure you take a picture of your gas as well cause they will try to charge you for a full tank of gas when there's actually maybe a half a tank or even less Just be careful. Worst rental experience. Reserved a car a week in advance. Rude guy at counter seems annoyed that I was surprised they did not have any cars in yet. He got annoyed that I would not wait 2 hours for a car or take an electric truck as alternate.I prepaid so he told me cancel on website.Budget saying I was canceling after pickup time so they will keep all my money. I was hoping that 5 years later, these goons would have changed or become better, but nope. Same owners, same staff, same rude huge dude at the front counter, but now they're even worse. Aside from lies about gas, they now lie about policy, in this case about e-tolls. They stated that e-tolls were unavoidable, and you cannot opt out. Except right on the Budget website, it says you can opt out. I contacted corporate to ask about it, and they stated that as long as you have your own e-toll transponder, you won't be charged. I used Costco travel to reserve a car. The location was less than a mile from where I was staying. Check out was fast as it was an early morning pickup. I reserved a small economical car and the Corolla was clean and good on gas. No issues with staff. Please make sure you look at vehicle noting any damage even minor. There were rock chips and I opened the trunk to find paint damage but I made him note it. Check in was easier. Fast and efficient. read more

Sergio was very rude. I drove the car from California to Colorado on the highways in Jan/Feb and when I returned he said the car was too dirty on the outside and he was going to charge me $400 to clean it. That was absurd. It was a result of normal driving. I took it to the car wash down the street and got a $30 car wash. That's All it needed, a normal car wash. His position was uncalled for and because of him I will always take my business elsewhere. Since then I have rented from enterprise for a total of over 4 weeks and never had a problem. read more

Reserved a 1-way rental for a mini-van at beginning of Apr 2023 for pickup late April and drop-off in Texas. Reservation/quoted price was $979. Picked up Toyota Sienna on 24Apr; discovered that 1 tire was completely bald and making noises. Called Avis HB; Rep told me that if tire blows I can call roadside assistance! Seriously?!! How can you issue a dangerous vehicle to a customer? I asked for a replacement vehicle; was directed to Avis John Wayne Airport. Took vehicle there for replacement; spent more than an hour while the reps there tried to figure out how to exchange a vehicle; extremely incompetent and inefficient. Finally got a replacement mini-van (Chrysler T&C). Turned in vehicle in Texas as agreed. Discovered additional $240 charge on my credit card from Avis. Now fighting with Avis to get overcharge reversed. Horrible customer service. read more

The Latino heavy set employee name Fernando is truly a demonstration of an individual who should not work in customer service. Day 1 when I picked up the car his energy was stank Day 3 when I first drove in highway the Nissan Sentra he put me in which was not car I reserved started making strange loud noise. I got so scared driving back home I was forced to drive 40mph. Then when I called to tell Fernando what happened of course attitude back. Then he blows up at me because I didn't fill the quarter tank to exact amount. Perhaps I was few dollars short. Considering I was put in dangerous situation I would of hoped for some compassion. He got verbally aggressive with me and canceled my 1 month rental contract. I had to walk back home. Please fire this terrible demonstration of good customer service. I will be telling everyone not to rent from car place if Fernando continues to be employed here. Please go to Enterprise down the street. You pay a bit more but you get what you pay for. So let me add to the other bad reviews and tell you what's wrong with this place. The fuel gauge. When I booked this reservation it stated full to full. That means that it was going to be full and we just had to refuel it. NOT! It was at a quarter tank. A little over. I hate it when car rentals do that. Nickel and dime us to go over. I went to the arco next to their business and as much as I tried to get it at that level. Nope. I went over. When I went to the desk to check out there was a couple ahead of me checking out too. They claimed that the fuel tank should be full. The female customer replied back quickly and sternly, "No, We got it at half a tank. It was suppose to be full but you guys gave it at half!" So it turns out I'm not the only customer to have this issue. And finally to add, this AVIS does not have shuttle service to or from their office. That means you have to arrange other means to get there or get home. Enterprise has shuttle service where they pick you up and drop you off. Even car dealerships do this. Skip this place. This is an independent Avis rental place, very small store located inside Plaza De La Playa shopping mall. You need to leave your car in the parking lot at your own risk that someone will break in. The store manager is very rude, customer service is terrible. I received a filthy car and the manager warned me that I need to clean the car and vacuum it if no he will charged $40 buck. Customer is giving 15 min leeway on the return after that \they will charge an extra day. This is not an Avis standard shop and if you rent here don't expect much than terrible customer service, do your own cleaning after use, with your car may be break in during rental. 1 star is over rated for this place. I've rented cars numerous of times for personal and business trips. Never once I had to wash and clean the rental car upon returning. The purpose of car rental is for the convenience of the customers. My first time renting Avis at this location. I understand each Avis location is privately owned. Sergio, the guy who handled the car return this morning, stated that because the rental car was return out of the "norm", I either get charged for him to clean the car or I need to wash and clean the car before returning. I've never heard such condition ever from all my experiences with car rental services, except for Turo. Now, Turo is privately own by an individual but not franchised like Avis. I asked Sergio to define "the norm" because I read on Avis' policy, there was no where on the policy that stated the customer had to clean the car before returning. He defined the condition included gravel, grass, dirt. When picking up this car, I saw dog fur everywhere in the back seat with popcorn in a cup holder. It became very clear to me that Sergio forces this condition on the customers to save him time and money before exchanging cars. The whole point of renting cars from Avis is for the convenience. Avis is not Turo. I'm writing this reviews for you to be aware of the situation regarding to the additional charges or clean it yourself before returning the car. read more

Gave all of our info necessary prior to rental, prepaid for the car a month in advance, checked in digitally online, and they still want my social security number to rent the car when I get there. Two men I have never met standing there asking for me to give my social security number out loud, and arguing with me about it like I'm a little child. Like I was born yesterday. Dropped off a car rental at this location. I was told there was only a half an hour grace period for late drop offs after which I'd be charged an extra hour. What does AVIS stand for: A$$holes Vow for Inconsiderate Service!!! I used this location to rent a car for work on two occasions recently. My job allows me to rent a car if my drive is two hours or more. I drive a lot for work and planned on using Avis as my go to place. Before I rented the first time, I asked to make sure that I could obtain a ride to and from the location. The foregoing was a big issue for me. I was told it would be no problem. The first rental went off without a hitch. The second rental was the exact opposite. First of all, I was given a Versa vs a Fuzion. When I inquired, I was told the Fuzion was a full size car. I was not informed that I was reportedly given a free upgrade. However, after I sat in the Versa and found out it had sufficient room, I said OK. But when I drove home, the check air pressure light was on: Don't the employees check basic stuff like this?!?!?! I had to check all the tires and put a lot of air in one of them. In addition to the tire issue, the instrument panel was dusty. The piéce de résistance was when I dropped off the car, and was informed they couldn't give me a ride home. There was no suggestion as to bring the car back later (I live two miles away), and someone will be here to drive you home. Or better yet, drive the car home and we will pick it up from you. After this experience, I canceled my upcoming res for two days later. I made a new res w/ Enterprise, a much more customer service oriented company and had a great experience. Do not go to this Avis. I rent a car with my colleagues every week- yes, EVERY WEEK. I have been to hundreds of car rental locations. This is THE WORST. My customer service experience could not have been worse. I had to email AVIS customer service (calling did NOT do anything). After being treated very poorly and giving the girl Kristen a second chance she was even worse. THere is no preferred treatment here if you have an AWD. The location is extremely hard to find. Kristen turned off the lit marquee sign when it was dark out so she wouldn't have to do any more work. Just the worst. read more

Made reservation, got there and was told they only had a "standard" one which has as much cargo space as my own car, and it was banged up on top of it. Complete waste of time. I actually went through this Avis/Budget office, but booked with Budget. I had absolutely no issue with them. Maybe it is because it was my one and only experience, as other reviews seem to have issues after their second or third visits, but they were friendly, and I was in and out of the office there in about 10 minutes. My ONLY issue is they have a $100 hold on your card (which I understand), but it is now 4 days after we left and the hold is still on my card. I checked the vehicle in at LAX (well, the Budget office by LAX), and to me, it shouldn't still be on my card 4 days later. read more

Disgusting customer service! I have never had such a bad experience at an Avis rental before. Sergio was rude and unhelpful. We are preferred Avis members and have only had great experiences in the past at other locations. We prepaid for a weeks rental for a full size car. We arrived shortly before the scheduled pickup time and were told that car was not available and could take the smaller car for the same price. We asked how this could happen and he shrugged his shoulders we asked then for a price adjustment for the smaller car and he said he could not do that and we would need to call corporate. Sergio said he could not make any changes in the computer. He kept telling us to call corporate for a discount and we could not change the reservation as it was prepaid. His attitude was entitled and nasty. We walked outside and called Costa Mesa Avis that was super helpful and said they had a car available and would just switch over reservation to them. The difference in customer service was incredible. We would never recommend doing business with Sergio The other location was amazing and could do anything we needed and made changes in the computer system everything Sergio said he could not do and he said it with a take it or leave it horrible attitude. read more

Do not rent from this location. When we picked up the car it wasn't completely clean but they expect you to vacuum the car before you return it. I doubt they sanitize the car because they expect the previous person to clean the inside of the car so they don't have to do it. Late fee is suppose to be $10 but they charge $15. I've been coming to this location for many years to get weekend rental. My latest experience was ABOMINABLE and I will NEVER return again! I assume the RUDE lady at counter is the franchise owners wife. I came around 8:50 am on Saturday so I could be first in line when opens at 9:00 am. As I drive in parking lot, I notice door was open, so I park and walk in, it's now around 8:55 am. I'm thinking cool, I'm first person here, so I wait at counter. I see the franchise owner talking on phone in front of me, appears he's working on customer reservation. While I'm waiting another customer walks in and is waiting by counter. At 9:00 am, the franchise owner wife (assume) comes out to counter from back and goes directly to the other customer and starts to help her. I immediately say' "Excuse me, I was here first and I've been waiting, normally no big deal but I'm in a hurry and need to get outta here quick". Then what happened next literally stunned me , she says "you came in before we were open". Are u fricken kidding me? No sh*t Sherlock! The door was open and I was first in line. If door was closed, I would have waited at door and been first in line. WTF does that have to do with anything????? I have no problem people making a mistake, but when you double down on your mistake, I have no sympathy for you. In fact the franchise owner even told her I was waiting first. I had to speak to 3 different agents, the last one being the second supervisor named Jack B (employee ID 91091) who lied about the process involved with the refund of my reservation which the website incorrectly set my drop off location. Wow two and a half stars? This means that they not only are a lousy business but also that they don't care about anyone's opinion. I have returned a car with a full tank that I have filled at a station less than half a mile away. Sergio said (who is incredibly rude by the way) that the fuel gage has to be way over the full mark and charged me $16 for refueling. I have a picture showing the fuel gage and I have the receipt showing the charge at the gas station so I will fight this with success, but the fact that I have to do this is what really bothers me. So this Avis location gets the lowest rating-yet again. Sergio's lack of costumer service is just a contribution to their low ratings and getting him retrained should be their first move before anyone thinks of visiting this place. read more

Horrible experience. Put in a dirty car, Charged $18.31 for not being topped off from full to "past full." Lots of customer service with attitude. They do not honor opening hours. I'll never return to this location. Wish they could be audited somehow for charges. The story: Picked up an intermediate car. It was dirty. Tried to drop it off early overnight the same day I picked it up. No luck, they don't allow you to drop off at night, my mistake. I went in to return it at 7:30 am. Met with a note on the window be back in 15 minutes. Had to call the office, no answer, call forwarded to the 800 number. Let them know. Guy on phone finally got ahold of someone and they opened door. Met with attitude. As I was talking to attendant he walked off turning his back. I was still on the phone with 800 number, let him know. The store attendant came back to me and asked if I filled the tank. I told him it was full and to go ahead and check it. He did then told me he gave it to me past full and to go fill it or he would charge me. Told him go ahead, your late opening, make me call, then harass me about how full the tank is, I gotta go to work, charge me then. I won't go there again. Enterprise and hertz are nearby, I was just being a faithful preferred member sticking with Avis. Maybe they would have been nicer if I used my wizard number. Worst service I've ever received! If I could give this location and company a no star, I absolutely would. I booked my trip through Orbitz and was able to get a great rate. When I went into pickup the car, I had explained to the manager that I had prepaid through Orbitz and that I opted online and already paid for the insurance. He noted that and and I signed the receipt and went on with my vacation. After a great vacation passed, I go back into the Avis location to return my car to be helped by a rather unkempt, bad mannered employee named Jordan. As he walks out to check the mileage, he emits a loud belch without a care. (just the beginning). Going over the receipt, I noticed that I was being double charged for insurance and for the cost of the car + fees. Jordan was very rude and matter of fact saying that the charges are the charges and he can't do anything to help. Prior to leaving I spent, 20-30 minutes attempting to resolve the issue via customer service by phone with no luck. After going back and forth with Jordan regarding the charges, he instructed me to sign the bottom of the receipt. I responded that I didn't feel comfortable signing as I didn't agree to the charges. He said if I didn't sign, I couldn't get a copy of my receipt. I made an effort to grab the receipt regardless of his statement, and he then assaulted me for trying to grab my copy. (Fighting me over the receipt like a game of tug-of war). As I was leaving with half the receipt, he yelled out, DO YOU FEEL BETTER NOW!! I felt like I was dealing with a child. I am very disappointed in Avis Huntington Beach for their lack of service and their decision to hire such an awful employee. Still have yet to have this issue resolved or even acknowledged. If I could give this company zero stars- I most definitely would. After speaking to the employees on the phone to book the vehicle I was told that I could use a debit card (with a $200 hold) to pay for my rental. When I arrived in a taxi, I was told that if I didn't pass their credit check- I would have no other options. Regardless of available balances, they told me that I was basically screwed. I asked why I wasn't told this ahead of time, and both Eli and Jordon shrugged their shoulders. Jordon said that he didn't say anything unless it came up that it didn't pass and that he needed to. They were both rude and extremely unhelpful. They watched me walk out of their establishment and wait for another taxi. No apologies whatsoever. read more

Fair warning I have NOT rented my car yet, however I have reserved one. If the customer service I receive during the remainder of my experience with this Avis office is the same as I have received so far from Sergio (the gentleman who helped me the day I walked in) I think they will have earned their 4, and possibly 5 starts from me. My parents are coming to visit for 2 weeks, and I only have my business car which wouldn't be comfortable for them. I wanted to rent something a little more roomy, and a little easier for them to get in an out of. Most car rental places have use the classic "Similar to an XYZ"... when advertising the cars they have for rent on their lots, but that car is never the on you get, when you get there. I know this, and I don't blame the office... it's the industry game, not the fault of any one place. So, I thought I'd do my due diligence and drive up and down Beach Blvd, stop at a couple of rental lots, and see what they actually have to rent. I wanted to look at actual cars, look inside and get a sense of the space. Sergio was more than happy to grab a couple of keys, walk me out to the lot and showed me 4 or 5 cars. To me this was excellent customer service, not only do I appreciate the effort -- he didn't have to do it -- but, he was understanding, accommodating, and a guy who cared enough to help. I did NOT review Yelp reviews before I embarked on this little jaunt. Maybe I should have. I took a business card and wrote Sergio's name on the back when I got back to my car. I hope that my actual rental experience goes just a well. I'll update this review afterward. This company thinks it's okay to steal money from a dead person who was unable to return the car on time because he DIED. Tried to explain this to the unethical, rude man named Mohammed but he did not want to listen at anything from the start. No sympathy, and no care in the world about stealing hundreds of dollars from a 3 year old who was left with out a dad. Customer service was no help either, they called Mohammed and stated he was rude to them as well. I couldn't get help from anyone.
