I wish I had looked this up before I booked. My experience with Avis at the airport was disappointing from start to finish. My flight was delayed, the airline lost my luggage, and by the time I finally made it to the rental counter, I was already exhausted and stressed. Despite all of that, I still arrived within the buffer time I had built into my travel plans and picked up my vehicle around 3:30 PM. Unfortunately, the problems continued. The car I had reserved wasn't available, and the representative assisting me was rude, dismissive, and seemed unwilling to listen to my concerns. The bigger issue came when I discovered they recorded my pickup time as 3:30 PM but listed my return time as 2:30 PM two days later. When I questioned this, I was told rentals are booked in 24-hour increments. However, when I contacted a manager, I was told that if I returned the car after 2:30 PM, I would be charged for an additional rental day. So apparently rentals are booked in 24-hour increments unless they're not. I paid for a 48-hour rental. The fact that circumstances completely outside my control delayed my arrival by an hour didn't matter to anyone I spoke with. Every response was a copy-and-paste explanation of company policy. No flexibility, no empathy, no effort to help a customer who had already experienced a rough travel day. Policies are important, but so is customer service. A little understanding would have gone a long way. Instead, I felt like I was arguing with a rulebook rather than speaking with people empowered to help. After this experience, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I won't rent from Avis again. read more

PSA: If you ever rent a car, especially through Avis Car Rental or Budget Car Rental , TAKE PHOTOS AND VIDEO at pickup and return. I rented a car back in Nashville from July 8-12. The car was returned by me in mint condition, and it was even rented out again on July 15 with no issues to another party. Then on July 22, 2025... it was struck by lightning and declared a total loss. Somehow, Avis Budget Group tried to come after me for $19,550 in damages. Ridiculous, I know! Even with clear proof and evidence, it turned into a full-blown fight to clear my name. Another wonderful rental experience with Avis, this time at Nashville airport. Right before my arrival they upgraded my sedan reservation to an suv for being president club member. I was assigned a pick up spot and was able to drive out with the car without going to the booth. The pickup zone was adjacent to the main building, only about 5 minutes walk from the terminal exit. All spots were clearly marked, was so easy to locate the car. The car was so new, only 5,000+ miles in the odometer. All equipments were fully functional, no scratches or damages to the body. After using the car for 3 days, we dropped it in the same place. It was surprised to see an agent was working on return cars at 5:30 am. We left the key in the car and walked out. I received the final receipt an hour later in my email. This was a smooth and convenient rental experience. read more

Avis Rent a Car I had a really good experience with Avis Rent a Car. I do not always rent from them, but this time everything went well from start to finish. My travel day was not easy. I missed a few flights and was supposed to arrive around five in the evening, but I did not make it in until about 11 o'clock at night. Even that late, the gentleman at the counter, I believe his name was Andrea or Alexander, was very courteous and professional. He made the check-in process quick and easy. Afterward, he helped me get set up with my car and even assisted me with loading everything. The car itself was nice and clean. It felt good to step into a vehicle that was ready to go after such a long day. I did not take any of the extra options, just a straightforward rental, but the service was excellent. Returning the car was just as smooth. The staff were polite and efficient, and they got me processed and on my way without any hassle. Compared to a few rental experiences I have had elsewhere that were slow or confusing, Avis made this one easy. Overall, this was a very positive experience. We had done our reservation online a while back so that guaranteed us a car. She was very nice and got us our car very quick and directed us where we can pick up our car and we were on our way. This was the best Avis experience I have had all year. I had an issue with my credit card, so I had to stop at the Preferred desk, which was much less of an ordeal than it usually is. I asked the clerk what kind of car I was getting. Initially, I was assigned an Altima, but I must have made a face or something, because she then asked me if I wanted something different. With minimal fuss, I was instead given a Chevrolet Trax, which I thought was cute. I was able to get out of the parking garage quickly and the car was clean enough. I was signed up for Avis Preferred which has its own counter in the garage, so you can skip the desk in the airport proper. I believe after your first time renting you can skip the counter entirely and choose your car in the app. Avis easily had the best rate road tripping from Nashville to St. Louis and I had a great time driving the Honda HRV they assigned me. It was clean, comfortable, fun to drive, and had all the tech features I was hoping for to make my trip easy (cruise control, lane assist, Android Auto). Easy, streamlined experience getting the car. Overall my experience with Avis of BNA was fine. Since I'm part of the President's Club, I was able to get my car without having to talk to anyone. That said, the Avis people at the parking garage were helpful when I had trouble locating my car. Also it's awesome that all the rental car companies are connected to the airport so you don't have to take a shuttle anywhere. What was a little weird was not being able to book a return time on the app before 6AM, but you're totally able to return your car before then. NEVER AGAIN, NEVER AGAIN It's finally happened my friends. After years of being both a personal and business customer, my relationship with Avis has sadly come to an end. I will not play the role of Charlie getting the ball ripped away EVERY TIME by Lucy (Avis). We're done here. Account deleted, app deleted. Done. Whether it's filthy vehicles, vehicles without a full tank of gas (like today), damage to the interior, slime everywhere, staff who basically are clearly not compensated well and it shows. They are good people, they are not well lead, no supervisors ANYWHERE in sight. This is likely by design. Today: 1. I checked the app this morning before my flight to make sure the vehicle was still available. It was but the pick up time was wrong by three hours. I specifically entered the flight data into the reservation, so I don't know why that happened. I called Avis and after 15 minutes, I was told by someone from the national Call center in Mexico that nothing could be done. He said hopefully they will have a vehicle but they may not. Very nice person on the phone. 2. I arrive at my destination, and I look to see how to navigate to my vehicle. When the app opens up into Apple Maps, my vehicle is traveling 65 miles an hour 30 miles away from the airport. 3. So I go to the Avis stall, and I see that there actually is an identical vehicle in the stall where my "reserved" vehicle was at before it autonomously decided to leave the rental car lot. However, when I turned the vehicle on, the gas tank was only 75% full, there was a sticky substance that smelt like fecal material on one of the seats, there was sand in the back. There was bird feces on the rear windshield. One of the air conditioning vents had been damaged. 4. I called the national call center again and spoke to a very nice young man who told me that unfortunately I would have to dispute the charges, but could I please send a photo of the fuel gauge and I would be reimbursed several months from now. This is absurd on so many levels, and it's clear that they're just simply isn't any leadership on the ground to make sure that these kinds of issues are taken care of. All customer support has been outsourced to foreign countries where the speakers actually speak very good English, however, they don't know anything about the local facility in question. I imagine many of the car rental agencies are doing similar things, but I will no longer use Avis. I will be making several reviews on several sites, including the Better Business Bureau. I'm actually also considering calling the state attorney General to complain about fraudulent charges on the vehicle that I rented, because apparently the vehicle was reported as being a full tank and it wasn't. I have never had such rude counter service in any retail transaction anywhere my entire life as I had on January 11, 2026 at the Avis Nashville airport location. We rent cars all the time. We always fill up the tank before we drop off our rental. Our rental car's check engine light came on with an alert just a few miles before we got to the airport. (Red Santa Fe) We were afraid to stop as we didn't want to get stranded and we only had used about 1/16 of the gas since we'd last put gas in. . We drove to the airport and tried to inform the desk staff what had happened. The gentleman we approached did not even look up so we nicely asked if he could help us. He basically rolled his eyes and just waited for us to talk. He interrupted us and said "you WILL pay $10 a gallon like you agreed to on the rental agreement." We asked to speak to someone who could help us and he said "you will still have to pay but you can talk to her"....he pointed to the other lady working. We basically got the same answer and rude behavior from her and we nicely asked to speak to a manager. She handed us the enterprise number and said we could call that number. (The reservations number!). We asked again to speak to a manager....who never showed up. Eventually (10-15 minutes later?) when we asked if the manager was coming she told us that we would be receiving an email and the status had been changed. So we thanked her and left. 10 minutes later we received an email saying we were charged $32 for turning in the car without topping it off. So. We called Avis customer service and got the charge taken off since the person on the end of the line actually listened to us and had common sense! Management at this location has got their work cut out for them. I know two front desk employees that should NOT be working with customers. (That said, the gentleman who checked us in on Friday, January 9 was very nice and professional). Won't be using Avis at this location again!! read more

Avis Nashville Airport the worst in the country, 2.5 hours the agents were rude, condescending and would not honor my rate booked thru an 800 service after receiving two vehicles one was Smokey, the second would not connect to apple car play the screen was black. A woman in a vehicle right next to me with a disabled child had the same issue and was told that she needed to go to the store buy a device to hook to the car to secure Apple CarPlay. I thought that was the worst thing I've ever seen this poor woman hade been traveling all day with the child in a wheelchair and was told to go to the store to buy device to get Apple CarPlay. I was told we don't have any cars and we can't honor your rate booked it will be 717.00 for a three day rental. The agent in his Tennessee Titans jersey was rude slapped his laptop closed it and just looked at me and said that's the rate. 1 Star (Only because 0 isn't an option) Absolutely the worst rental experience we have ever had. We are currently on our fifth vehicle from Avis in the last 24 hours, and every single step of this process has been a complete nightmare. Ten minutes into an 18-hour drive, the oil change light came on. Then, things got worse. One of the vehicle's tires blew out on the road, leaving us stranded -- again, no real help from Avis. Their "solution"? Find our own way to bring it in to switch out vehicles, after we repeatedly told them we were from out of state and it was extremely dangerous to continue to drive to return the car. The "spare" tire was worn down as well and in absolute no condition to drive w We managed to get yet another vehicle from them, only to discover the tires were dangerously worn down. For a company that's supposed to prioritize customer safety, this was beyond unacceptable. To make matters even more frustrating, we went through two vehicles that were given to us but they were not big enough to fit us all - we were traveling with a group of six and had explicitly reserved a vehicle to fit our party. Repeatedly, Avis kept giving us vehicles that did not seat six people and simply told us to "make it work." It is painfully clear that this company has no regard for customer safety, no sense of accountability, and absolutely no idea what they are doing. Why cant you get someone on the phone at this location? I rented a one way on 1/22 from Atlanta to Nashville due to flight plans changing. I get to Nashville BNA on 1/22 about 7:20pm cts . No one is actively checking cars in and I realize that after standing there for about 5 mins. I use the app to return the car. I take pictures of my fuel and leave. Today is 1/25 and the car still has not been checked in and my app is saying, I still have the car. I have been calling for the past 3 days to only get a call center of people who can't get anything done including contacting this location. How can a car go days without being scanned? Do not recommend. I had booked with a third party and ended up paying way more. We got insurance coverage through the 3rd party, but was told that coverage didn't cover some of the damages through Avis, so we ended up going with that one too. The guy at the counter was friendly, but ran through the contract pretty quickly so I didn't see that they had charged an extra $65 for a 2nd driver until I had gotten the final receipt. We went with the pre-paid fuel and had ended up paying more for that than the $20 we had to spend at the pump filling up. The other thing was that two ladies were getting into the car we had been assigned to, as Budget/Avis sometimes get assigned the same car without their computers talking to each other, so we had to end up getting that straightened out as well at the airport. Let me spin you a tale of business travel atrocity, compliments of Avis On on April 17th I picked up a rental car at the Atlanta airport. Avis showed two reservations. One returning the car to Nashville on the 18th (wrong) and one for return the 21st (correct). I explained it all to the rental agent and he assured me he removed the incorrect one and all was right. So off I went. While returning via Nashville on Friday, Avis texted to tell me my rental return was three days overdue. No big deal since I was actually en route to Nashville to return the car. Which I did. Turned in with no issues. Skip forward to today. Yesterday I got a certified letter that Sheryl had to go pick up today. It was from Avis. A nasty letter dated April 26th. threatening prosecution if I don't return the car within 10 days. The car I returned on April 21st, 5 days before the nasty letter. No attempt to call. No email. Just a nasty, threatening letter. I called AVIS and got it sorted out with a powerless rep who couldn't do anything beyond say he was sorry and disregard the letter. I can do more than that. I can leave AVIS. Until they issue a real apology, with some sort of tangible recompense, my business goes elsewhere. National Car Rental, Hertz and Enterprise will all gladly take my business. And I'll share the word online and with my work colleagues as well. As an individual driver, I have little impact. Corporate rentals for more than 10,000 employees may have a different impact. On the way back to the airport, we stopped about a half mile away and filled up the tank completely. After we dropped off the car, we immediately got a receipt via email with a $66 charge for gas. I normally use National Rental Car when I travel, especially here at BNA, but on this trip they were out of cars, so I used Avis. Check in was a breeze. The car selection was nice. Drop-off was odd... I pulled up to see a car facing the wrong way with headlights on and a guy sitting in the driver's seat listening to music and braiding his dreadlocks. I waited a couple of minutes, then assumed he was a customer and I backed up to move over a lane, assuming I needed to go walk to the kiosk and ask for check in. Soon after I moved this guy, who was playing with his hair walks up with a scanner to scan my car in. I commented that I didn't know he worked here as he ignored that I pulled up, to which he simply said "yeah." He scanned my car, confirmed my email address and walked away. If I could I would leave negative stars. Worst customer service I have ever had in my life in any type of retail. I have been in charge of multiple million dollar retail locations for almost 20 years, and I would fire every employee I have if I had someone treat a guest this way. We flew into Nashville at 12:00 am on Christmas Eve. we had already paid for the car rental and had it reserved weeks prior. We are a family of 6 with kids from 10 to 16, all tired and burnt out from all day travel from Oregon. My wife went to get the car while we got the bags. I walked up to her very upset. She was sent to the "supervisor" or what they consider a supervisor (which is a joke). He treated her like a second rate citizen. Even threatened to call security and have her kicked out, because she got upset when he told her to "act like an adult". I'm sorry she was the only person behaving like an actual human being in this case. We walked 100 feet to ALAMO who got us a car no problem and for half the price for 8 days. that is customer service, not only did their rep help us, she went out of her way to find us the cheapest price. Also, I reached out to Avis and have gotten 0 responses to my request or even the fact that the complaint was so severe. So obviously customer service is not a priority for them. Steer clear from Avis, especially at the Nashville airport, not only will they screw you over, they will treat you like they are better than you. I'm sorry you are an hourly employee who is a "night supervisor" maybe have a little humility. read more

A young lady from Avis named Zion went out of her way to reach out and help me. As she saw how frustrated I was, dealing with those b*tches from Thrifty. She worked with me to help me get a rental car. I did, however, have to pick it up the following day as they were completely exhausted out of vehicles for the night. I returned the following day and went to the Avis kiosk and was greeted by a smiling face by the name of Jeff. I explained to him what had happened and he was in complete disgust at my experience. He guaranteed me that I would not have the same experience with him. He was absolutely correct. I was in my rental within 20 minutes. I rented a car to be picked up at 9 AM today, and when I arrived at 9:15, the manager working said they did not have a car for me. I rented a car from Avis back in Aug (from the airport). Everything went fine, we return the CAR back 3 days later and flew back home. Apparently, they scanned the wrong vehicle and started harassing my wife and I about a Truck we hadn't turned in. We cooperated, gave them a time stamp when we returned it and told them to check the tapes. Well, after 3 months Avis decides to take 11k out of my account (unauthorized) and had nothing to say when we called. Also, we have text messages from their staff threatening to call the police if we don't return the missing car, but had a wrong name and vehicle type. Is this acceptable? I need compensation plus. BEWARE - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I'd give them zero stars if I could. Reserved a car in late August for pickup 30 minutes after my flight was scheduled to land around 1 AM. Find out before I even get on the flight it is going to be delayed 2 hours. I call Avis to ask what my options are, if they will still honor my reservation since I will be late through no fault of my own. They assured me over the phone that they would, and they put in a note in that my flight was going to be delayed. Satisfied, I got onto my flight. I arrive 2 hours later, just as I had told them. The lady behind the counter looks for my reservation, says it got cancelled and she will have to create a new one. WHAT? The new reservation is $600 more than my original. Robbery. Not only did she pretend like she might "lose her job" if she found something cheaper, she also added the option of pre-filled despite me saying (both in person and on the reservation) I would fill it. It was 3 AM, my partner and I were stranded, and we had no choice but to accept the outragous price. What is the point of making a reservation, calling to confirm the reservation will be honored, only to get ripped off? I will NEVER use Avis again. read more
