My brother rented a car here for our family road trip. The check in process was easy and there was no one else in line on Sunday morning. The guy in charge was friendly and gave us the run down. They don't open till 10am on Sunday, so keep that in mind if you're renting and getting on the road. We'd have liked to left earlier, but we had to wait until they opened. They are open Sundays, some of the other companies in the area were not so that's why he chose Avis. The car ran great and was exactly what we needed. it was in great shape when we rented it. The return was easy. They have a drop box for keys if you're returning when they're closed. I suggest checking them out if you need a rental car. This location doesn't have a huge stock of cars, but if you make a reservation in advance they'll get in what you need. read more

I had a morning reservation with Avis. And this is what I was given as an upgrade. This is the Avis in Olathe Kansas. I do not recommend this place at all. Spoke to the manager and he says that they do not have the ability to wash cars and suggested that I go to a car wash and wash the car myself after paying $500+ (very unprofessional). It is so unfortunate that I will be driving around in a car that looks like they have been driving around in a swamp. I wish I can give a negative star for this buffoonery!! Had a weekend trip planned with a large 7 seat SUV. Got there at 1:30 pm, they had the reservation in the system, but they were only going to give me a minivan, because that's what the airport gave them according to the nice gentleman behind the counter. I had reserved 4 days ago. I read that the Traverse could be traded out on their behalf with something similar. Is a minivan similar? This poor young man had to tell me that I would get a minivan. It is a one man show at this location. So I said, I would take the van if he gave me a discount. He said no discounts. So I said, I know this probably is not your fault, but it sucks you work for a company that relies on its only employee to disappoint a customer. Airport location: We had a reservation, our card was charged, and when we arrived they wouldn't honor our reservation. The representative blamed all on corporate, said she had no cars (they had 20-30 cars in plain sight), and asked us to leave. She would not give us her name. The manager, Brent Thomson, said the same. We asked what we're supposed to do - and if they could help us find a car at another agency (as all of the other kiosks appeared closed). They said we can't, but you can do it yourself - we need you to leave the counter or we'll call the police. Which they did - keep in mind - we have a reservation, a text reminder about our reservation, and they've taken our money. Super fun explaining to the police after a long day of travel! So, based on faulty logistics, we're stuck at the airport. On the bright side, we weren't arrested! RECOMMENDATION: never ever rent from shameless AVIS unless you like getting mistreated and stranded. #AVISdoesnottryharderanymore - they're just #2! read more

Buyer beware!! Do not rent from here. I am an Avis First elite member. I picked up a car and it smelled of weed, cigarettes and bad perfume. I had a sore throat for days and had to wash all of my clothes. On return I was told the manager, Mack Hill, would call me. Crickets. Do not rent from here. This AVIS location used to have stellar management, James & Anthony. Now it SUCKS. I've been swindled by the new guy. I WILL NOT RETURN. I've been a long-time customer of Avis. I've rented FULL TIME with them for over three years. Ever since the new management took over, my experience has increasingly gotten worse, to the point where my last bill (for a month) was over $1100!!! No explanation. And no response from management. We recently rented a mini van. The van's rear tires were less than 2/32 of an inch. The tires were bald. When we arrived there was a winter weather advisory in effect the day after our arrival. Driving on bald tires in icy weather is not the best thing to do. But who expected icy weather in late April? Staff was nice at this store but the bald tires were dangerous in the snow/ice and rain. The rear of the vehicle floated. I'm extremely disappointed that Avis would send out bald tires. It was very difficult driving home in torrential rain. We have never rented with Avis. We have used Olathe Enterprise. The car was also dirty when we picked it up. It had bird excrement all over the car. The car smelled of a smoker. read more

Car was dirty had a colony of ants living in the drivers/passenger seats. I could tell it wasn't cleaned outside or out but that's not the worst part... Picking up the car I specifically remember the person/representative behind the desk asking if I wanted extra coverage insurance, I said no, then he proceeded to ask me for my credit card to cover the deposit, I asked him why..? My husband pre-paid for the service and the deposit. He said the deposit was not paid.. so I paid. Get home and a few weeks go by and I noticed I never received my refund. I called them up, come to find out I actually was paying for extra car insurance 2 different types of insurance and not the deposit that associate told me I was paying for, he straight up lied!!! Booked a 12 passenger van months ago and paid for it in advance. Showed up today and they didn't have it at this Olathe location as promised. The owner/manager was very unfriendly and not helpful in assisting us in getting something else. No notice the van wasn't going to be there. I will never rent from Avis again. read more

Picked up our car - I'm a first time renter. Never did a walk through with anyone. I did, however, take pictures of the marks on the car (cracked windshield, dings on car, unswept car, etc.) Before I drove off. The car reeked of weed and wasn't clean. I was told the car was moved from another lot to accomidate the reservation. After dropping the car off, I was told I smoked in the car (not a smoker, I have a 6 year old and a six week old) that I cracked the windshield, that I caused all kinds of damage. I was told I should have done a walk through. Well.. now I know! I feel so stupid for not thinking this through. Please! Beware!! I'm being charged for EVERYTHING, even though i showed them the photos and told them no one offered a walk through. By the time this is over a $400 rental will cost me thousands for... all for the damages someone else did. If I damaged the car, I'd pay for it! 3 stars for being cheaper than everyone else, and for allowing us to pick up in Kansas, drop off in Colorado. They upgraded us from "sub-compact" to the larger Chevy Impala, which displeased my boyfriend, who wanted to be thrifty and environmentally-responsible (funny how often the two meet) with the unavailable smaller car. Alas, the larger car came in handy as the roads were often covered in ice, snow, or combinations of the two. Everyone we dealt with at Avis was pleasant (except one dim-witted young woman we spoke with over the phone), and they allowed my boyfriend and I to be "life partners" as we have the same address on our driver's licenses, which meant we didn't pay the additional driver fee. Worst car rental experience I've ever had. I have used Avis all over the U.S. with no issue until now. In fact, I wasn't even able to rent a car. I booked a request through my travel agent to pick-up a car at this location. The reservation was confirmed by the agent and an email from Avis 5 days prior to the rental. Yet, when I arrived at the location at the scheduled time, this Avis had no cars at all. Not one. The guy working the counter didn't seen too concerned. He had my reservation in the computer, so it wasn't like they weren't expecting me. He slowly called other locations to see if they had cars, which they didn't. He asked if I would be willing to wait if they brought one from the airport, and I said I would. He still just continued to call the other satellite offices and not the airport, at which time I just had to walk out in order to have time to make other arrangements. In this same area, there is an Enterprise and a Hertz, which both had cars sitting in ther lots. I just can't fathom how a rental car company doesn't have any cars to rent in multiple locations around the city. It's not like 7AM during the work week in the suburbs is prime car renting time. If they have a problem keeping cars, why did they confirm the rental request? Why didn't the call my provided number in advance to me showing up to say there were no cars? Why didn't they already have one driven down from another location to fill my request that they accepted with plenty of time to process? read more

The new management does not care about the safety of the customer. Rented a vehicle and realized rather quickly damage to the tire. Management argued that is was safe to drive which it was not. Exchanged vehicle at another Avis location which understands the importance of taking care of the customer. Received today a bill for the damage that was also processed from the Olathe location. Already reported to Avis and will not use the location again in the future. read more

I rented a car in month of March 2018 from AVIS rental care at Olathe, KS location off Santa Fe near I-35 highway. ISSUES: 1st. First the AVIS office door was locked up... I had to call the location... after couple of attempts the AVIS representative finally picked up my call and opened the door to the rental AVIS location. 2nd. On my confirmation letter and over the phone the AVIS representative confirmed that the automobile will be a Chevy Cruz, but when I went there the guy changed the car on me last minute and said: Chevy Cruz is not here/ready, but you can take the Volkswagen Jetta. 3rd. The Avis representative... he did not go over the car with me during the checkout process to assess the car for issues. He just gave me the keys... he said: I can take it and there should be no problem... (I had purchased insurance when I reserved the rental car through Priceline.com.) I was feeling a little fishy(suspicious) about the whole situation... When I got home with the car... I noticed one of the front tires had a little bubble (or damaged) on the side of the tire. Btw, I only live like 8 minutes from the AVIS rental location. To make a long story short... In Month of April... I get a letter (bill) from them saying that I owe them $XXX.00 (charged my card) for repairs. The individual working at the AVIS Olathe KS (Santa Fe) location is NOT TRUST WORTHY after this incident. I would not recommend this location or AVIS rental cars... I am very disappointment how they changed the car on me last minute and without inspection giving us another car putting me and my family at risk of driving a car with damaged tire. And then shamefully charging me for the repairs for their own mistake (intentional act); even though I purchased insurance on the rental car. (I don't know how many other people they have done this too... I don't post reviews unless I feel something is wrong or for awareness to protect others from similar situation. Blah. I got a full size because I didn't want to be cruising around town in a damn Geo Metro. So, I arrive and what do I have? A friggin Mercury Grand Marquise. Maroon. Quintessential grandpa car. And it smelled like piss. As soon as he showed it to me I asked what else there was. He said nothing! I find that hard to believe. There were other cars in the lot too. And I was willing to pay for an upgrade!! But, they were cheaper and the guy that helped me was pretty funny. All in all, I think I will just get a car from the airport next time. I had a reservation yesterday to pickup my rental car, The appointment was at 2pm. My husband drove me to the location we arrived at 1:42. I go to the front door. LOCKED. I look around but still no one around. I was confused. I look at hours on window it shows closed at 2pm. I was baffled! How could this place already be closed? Why is my appointment set to pickup at 2PM. We could see there was one car still parked there that was not the same as the others, this totally told me someone was still there. We waited until 2:10 still no one. We were driving away when my husband and I looked back a man walked out of building then went into his car and drove away to the car wash behind and parked there. I am not sure what happened, but this is such a terrible experience. I can't believe they would close early... I need that rental car for the weekend. I booked and reserved it ahead of time for a reason. Why close early? emergencies happen, perhaps that person had somewhere to go.....clearly he didn't want to be stuck helping anyone before closing time. I really really felt let down. I know because of this i will not use this location again. I know it doesn't matter because I am sure there are tons of customers to take my place. but i can tell you if i needed a rental car and everyone was sold out I won't even think about Avis being an option. I'm a Hertz Gold customer, rent a dozen or so cars a year. Hertz did not have the SUV I needed and was not helpful or all that interested in finding me the unit I wanted. Had they found it, Hertz was quoting $1500+ for the rental. Decided to look around, found Avis and made a reservation online. They did not ask for a credit card to hold it and our trip was only a week away, so I called to follow up. They were very nice on the phone, told me not to worry, they'll have the vehicle I wanted and would truck it in if needed. Showed up to pick up the rental, everything was just as they said. They also knocked $60 off the rental, not sure why but did not argue. Rental was about $1,050, far less than Hertz. They set me up with XM radio, rental was smooth, vehicle worked perfectly, very pleased, will do business here again! read more

In less than a two week period the screwed things up twice. The reservation were simple enough and made 4 months in advance. First week two vans. Second week three vans. Well the day before the trip, we called to confirm the reservation for week one (two vans,) well they didn't have two vans, just one. So one of our drivers ended up having to go to Lawrence to pick up another van. Week two, they didn't have the third van, but assured us everything will get straightened out when we pick up the vans. They kept wanting us to take 2 SUVs instead of 12 passenger vans (not enough drivers.) They eventually arranged for us to get a van from another local company at an addidtional $150. Next time well go somewhere else. The manager even had the gaul to blame his emplyee for mis-booking. read more

We rent cars almost weekly and decided to try Avis because of the fact they remain open on Sunday. We spend around $50,000 per year renting cars. I personally have been renting cars for 40 years. We use the cars in our business and are required to go off road because of the nature of our business therefore the cars get dirty. We returned the car dirty as usual after a two week rental and were told that unless we washed and cleaned the car we would be subject to a $250.00 cleaning fee. We have been renting from Enterprise for the last two year in Overland Park and have returned cars in far worse condition and with nary a complaint. Never in all my 40 years of renting cars have I been asked to wash and clean a car. Needless to say no more renting from Avis. read more
